2021 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off-Road. Stock shocks are too bouncy on the side streets for me. I don't do serious off-road. What shocks are on my truck now?
2011 Xterra Pro4X with 6-speed manual, bone stock. Superb vehicle with one failing: the rear leafs are WAY too soft. Even empty the thing bottomed out on mild dips, and this is from the factory (bought it used from a neighbor with only 9,000 miles on it). Loaded out with my overlanding gear the thing is just not adequate for challenging feral roads (I do a lot of Baja trips). I’ve got about 90,000 on it now. I’d like to get about 2” of lift and chuck those damn leafs. Is this too soon to throw out the factory Bilsteins the Pro4X came with?
Best comparison I've found on these 2 popular shocks , thank you. Use bought 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 w/ original Ranchos. A shock upgrade is needed so started surfing to get better informed. You shared your expertise in a way where the average consumer can make a proper decision . Keep up the good work.
great video again straight to the point and very informative. I know what I need is just the 5100 ( suspension full kit ) for my xterra but unlike other people I dont even have a budget for that yet lol hopefully some day... in the summer 2021ish
Actually the 5100’s are made to be used for your factory coil springs. I contacted Bilstein personally and was told, that not using the Factory springs would void the warranty. And that they were designed specifically to work with your factory components.

This is the info I was waiting for. Now I know which one to get. Just waiting for my 4600 to get a bit worn. Only got 10k after one year. Maybe I'll wait one more year before going with 5100. Already using the RC killa kit and body lift. Keep up the videos. I enjoy watching them.
I have a 2014 Tundra v6 long bed SR work truck single cab . I bought that kit 6112/5160’s best bang for the money $$, I’m so pleased with them , I totally recommend them 100%. I did add a 2” spacer to the 6112’s and I got a 5.5” total lift , I got the perfect hight that I wanted to clear my 35’s the ride is so smoooth . Best mod for my truck . 👍👍
I added those in my 2015 Silverado in the rear and I have a Rough Country 3 inch lift struts in the front and it worked out great for me. I know not everyone likes their truck to ride stiff but I prefer to go into corners and not have that body roll. It's a heavy truck not a car and I am well aware of that but once in a while it comes in handy.
Great comparison video .on my GX470 I have 6112s with 5160s rear and it rides like butter !! I wouldn't have gone any different way or wanted to spend any more money. On my third gen 4Runner I have 5100 front and rearwith eibach coil springs in the fron. the ride is harsh and I wish I would have just bought 6112 for that vehicle as well.
Decided on 6112 on the front. Can't decide between 5100 and 5160 on the rear. I really want 5160 believing it would be better offroad, but there are many instances 5160 leak. Kind of stuck! Do you think 5160 is better offroad than 5100?
As an owner of a 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, that I’m totally satisfied with the way it runs an rides. I was interested in leveling the look. However I also tow about once a month, with a 26’, 4,400-6,400lbs. So I could not go over the 2” mark, then tow level without air bags in the rear. So I decided strut spacers were all or nothing, plus only add hight. So I decided upon Bilstein 5100 RHA Struts/Shocks, both to balance the ride. So I set them at 1.9”, that works out perfectly! Being able to tow level. But most importantly, not only hight in front, but added suspension travel! That has really helped a lot off road with big hits that used to cause the front to bottom out, even on the road! Now hardly ever! With superior dampening, especially towing, with a weight distribution hitch, that set the truck/trailer nice an level! I’d advise anyone who is contemplating a leveling kit with spacers to look into the Bilstein!
I have 5100s all around on my 5th generation 4runner with SPC ucas. I love the ride. I really have been happy how it turned out. With the stock springs on the top perch, my lift in front is 2 and a half inches before my new tires. I have Bilstein lift springs in the rear getting me almost 2 inches of lift there. I'm now running 285 70/17s. I'm going to put about 160 lbs of winch and bumper on the front, so I am looking to see about changing the springs eventually.
Great to hear you like your 5100s! We all run SPC arms at the shop as well and they're great. Whenever you add that extra weight in the front, one of our coil springs would be perfect for you!
How are you still liking this setup? I'm getting 6112's up front with ICON Delta ucas with 5100 shocks in the rear only. Staying stock height in rear and up .85 up front. I drive a ton on highways and byways and tow a couple times a year. I need great manners for both.
@@PandasUNITE I am still pretty happy with the ride. I added the winch bumper and with the extra weight, I lost about 3/4 of an inch front lift. It was perfectly level before, but with the front bumper I am now running right around the factory rake. Since I have the extra weight, I decided to try 6112s with 700 lbs front springs to get back the lift. They’re still sitting in a box right now. I will eventually get around to installing them, but the ride now feels very good to me. I have KDSS btw.
I love my 6112/5160 set up on my 5th Gen 4Runner. Paired with Icon rear coils and track bar, Bilstein front coils becs I have no armor or bumpers yet. Soaks up big hits amazingly, got rid of factory roll and dive. Worth the extra money over the 5100.

I have the 6112/5160 combo on my FJ Cruiser set to factory height. Really glad I made the investment over the 5100s now. It absolutely bombs down beat up county roads and leaves me plenty of overhead if I decide to lift and do larger tires in the future.

@@petemedin9698 Firm and controlled. I wouldn't consider it harsh at all on the FJ. Definitely an increase in handling and I'm confident hitting rough roads at higher speeds.
Going this way on my F150 also. I need front springs so considering price of both 5100 or 6112 assembled with springs looks like around $300. It’s just a street driver but seems like a no brainer to get the 6112s, don’t need them but for $300 more considering set assembled with springs?? Thoughts?
Would you guys be able to do a coilover/shock comparison between the brands that you carry? ie: radflo vs fox vs Ome vs dobinsons etc...Thanks! Love all the content that you guys are putting out.
Great job! My girlfriend is 300lbs, can you customize a heavy spring on the passenger side and run a medium driver side?....lol, just kidding, solid info!
first of all great educational video! how much would this set up lift the front end of the new 2020 Ford Ranger and what would the cost be . Also I wouldn't not be going off road, witch set would you reccomend being the Ranger tends to be bounce around on the road?Thank you again for your video's ! Brad.
Thank you, great explanation. I drive a GX470, airbag delete with toy tech springs in the rear. Currently running 275/65/18, semi-daily driver and plan to overland after this pandemic. Looking for about 2” lift.and don’t want to “upgrade in a few months”. Which do you recommend? Someone gave me a pair of icon springs (md) for the front.
Great video! I'm looking at the 5100s for my frontier that has considerable weight in the back (tools and drawer/platform system). Thoughts on going with a leaf pack to additionally raise the rear?
I have a 2007 Toyota FJ 4x4. Looking for about 2.5/3 inches of lift. It’s my daily driver and I got out on trails during the weekend(light trails nothing crazy) what would you recommend? I’ve heard very good things about these Bilstein kits.
Great explanation video; however there was a phrase mentioned several times that wasn't clearly explained: Rides very well :) This seems subjective. Can you elaborate more on what is meant by vehicle handling that rides really well? Thanks!
Great video, appreciate the honesty. Looking to replace shocks on 17 4runner trd off road. I want to wheel it but wife doesn't want to, woman! How many miles does one get from stock springs?
Thanks for the great information. If you happen to choose a front level height that's too high or too low, can you adjust the front level without taking the strut out and apart again? Thanks
I ran 5100 on a frontier I had a few years ago. I loved them enough to buy them again two weeks ago for a GMC Sierra I just got and install them this past weekend. Would recommend to anyone over and over.
Question, what kind of driving do you do? On my 07 Silverado I want to make it mor comfortable when going fast over rough terrain. Gravel/Dirt roads mild trials etc etc. I’m not building a Prerunner but I do want something that’s ok road wise but soon as you hit a horrible bridge in NC it soaks it up like nothing and keeps on keeping on
@@robbieyh 5100 are your basic budget shock, don't expect much in terms of improved ride. it will stiffen it up, but it won't dampen rebound like a high quality CO like fox, king, etc.
I recently got a 2014 4runner SR5 in excellent condition, and I am so in love with my car. That said, I did notice that it does like a nosedive when applying brakes. Also, the ride quality is excellent, but again a little bit too soft. I'd like to eliminate as much as possible that nosedive and also a firmer ride. Do you think 5100 with stock coils would resolve this? Thanks!
Love your presentation on information relative to the Bilstein 5100s/5160s and 6112s. I drive a 2011F150 Harley Davidson with an iron block 6.2liter up front, very heavy. I just installed the 5100s on the rear and love them and I'm considering the 6112s installation for the front .🤔 Do you recommend pairing the 6112s with the 5160s only or can I pair the 5100s with the 6112s as well seeing that I have the heavy iron block 6.2liter up front?
How do they compare with the old Donahue shocks? I have a 2008 Tacoma and installed Donahue/Icon shocks way back when. Can't decide between replacing with new icons or going with bilstein.
Looking at replacing Rancho's on 2020 Silverado ... too bouncy. You make a case for the 5100 ... how does it hold up to light towing? Would you consider putting the 6112's on front and the 5100's on the rear?
Most of these reviews focus on comparing off-road performance, but I want to know if there is a significant difference on-road. I like to drive aggressively so handling stability on pavement is my top priority but I want to get more into off-roading so I also want something I can grow into and won't need to upgrade for many years. I don't mind spending a little more money for a product that performs better in all situations, will last longer and give me room to grow into it, even if I don't necessarily need the capability now. I'm a firm believer in the buying once and crying once, rather than saving a few buck now only to be disappointed later.
Same question here. I watched a few other videos and landed here czcams.com/video/55zr3LuemwI/video.html basically, the recommendation usually lands with 6112 in the front and 5160 at the rear. The 5100 seem to be cost effective OEM replacements for "usual" trucks ( so those which are not prepared already by the factory for hard off-road use)
I have 5100s but can’t speak on the 6112. 5100s are installed on my 07 Sierra, so a heavier vehicle. Don’t experience much body roll, if any and they do really well on the interstate. I do want to try the 6112 so maybe in the future I’ll be able to compare them lol
I have a 2007 Tundra TRD pkg. The ride is super stiff. I am looking for a more smoother comfortable ride more than anything. Do you recommend I go with 5100s on all 4 corners? Or 6112s up front and 5100s in the rear? Or is there another brand near the same price point that rides real smooth?
Thank you for the very informative video and information. I am at a crossroads as I need new front springs so looks like I need the 6112 and 5160. I have a 2003 T4R with V8 and am wondering what is the highest lift I can go without needing spacers etc to address the transfer case and cv angles?
The 6112s are an "OE Length" shock so you won't need to do any sort of diff/t-case drop with that setup. You'll see up to 2.25" of lift from that kit. We have a variety of rear coil spring options manufactured for us. Feel free to shoot us a message on facebook or via email if you have any more questions!
I'm looking to upgrade my 2021 Toyota Tacoma's Off Road's Bilstein shocks/struts. I drive mainly on freeways and would like a no bouncy ride. Currently, the stock Bilstein shocks are giving me motion sickness. Which shock setup is significantly less bouncy and it doesn't have to be Bilsteins? I don't do any type of offroading, just tow a jetski (in summer) to the beach using 4x4.
@Alldogs Offroad Coop can the 6112 be configured to allow any additional wheel travel on a 2017 Frontier Pro4X? I do not want to Titan swap and want the reliability of Bilstein with improved wheel travel. I am running 2" Nisstec spacer and SPC UCA..
Great video!! I have a 2019 stock Tacoma which is my daily/work truck. I load the bed with cabinets, sand scoops and Home Depot runs quite frequently and see the sag when I put that weight on. I occasionally do some off roading and camping. I’m also thinking of putting a lumber rack/ leitner rack. By the sounds and looks of it 5100 is calling my name. Since I don’t do too much off roading I don’t think a 3” lift is necessary and 2.5” should be more than enough. Also What springs would you suggest me going with and should I swap my leafs or add and if so what option would be best? Thanks
Great video, I'm still left with a question. Towing... I tow regularly with my 2.8 babymax canyon. Is one set more suitable for towing. I'm assuming the best is still the more expensive model Bilstein
The only difference between the 5160 and 5100 is the reservoir the 5160 has, ive used both shocks on the trailboss i had and you cant go wrong with either shock
I have an F150 that I tow a travel trailer, I don’t go off road. I just bought the 5100 for the rear and I have seen people use the 6112s for the fronts. I don’t care for ride roughness, I need my suspension stiff to prevent sway. Is this a good combo or I’ll stick with a 5100 set fronts and rears? TY!!!
I have a Lexus gx470. I am comparing between the Bilstein 6112 vs the full Dobinson Vs Old Man EMU lift kit. I mostly will camp, go mountains, but want the flexibility to off-road wheeling without worry. What do you recommend? Or should I mix and match. I have no plans to add a front metal bumper but maybe one day a metal rear bumper with tire carrier.
I got Moog FJ rear coil springs, Metaltech conversion kit, and Fox Shox rear shocks for my 03 Lexus GX470. Would 6112's work better up front, since it has a V8?
Just the answer I was looking for. Can a 200+ lbs front bumper and a winch handle the weight with the 6112? Or do I replace the coil to a more heavy duty like the OME 886 and will the coil fit on the shocks?
What type of the shockers do you recommend for Tahoe 2021 ? I’m looking for the very smooth ride during 10 hours of the ride? The originals are to hard and I feed every road imperfections .
I just got a set of 6112's and 5160's for a '17 pro4x, along with Mevotech/SPC UCA's and a leaf pack, is there any recommendations for what else I would need to get the most out of this setup in terms of performance if I'm after a 2" lift for bombing down logging roads? Some Timbren bump stops are on my list but that's about it at tis point, any ideas?
That's about all you need, nothing else is going to provide more suspension performance, except maybe a really good rear leaf pack like the Icon RXT, or Deaver setup (progressive leaf pack)
I have 2021 tundra platinum. I don’t see myself ever being a true off roader but might so occasionally. It’s my daily driver and will likely be pulling a TT within the next year so what set up do you recommend? 5100 all around? 6112/5100. I’d like to achieve 2.5 lift in front, better overall ride experience, limit sag in the back when pulling a trailer.
Generally, lifting the front then towing a travel trailer is counter productive. And 6112s would be way overkill for what you describe, and more expense than it will be worth if you want to hit freeway speeds, towing, and feel safe. Rear shocks generally don't limit your sag, rear springs do, rear springs determine your rear shock. You are better off enjoying your brand new suspension as is for free until you know your trailer weight and tongue weight etc. Once trailer details are known modify the rear suspension to accomodate your towing conditions and dial it in for your specific needs. Only then will you know your true rear ride height loaded/unloaded. Which detrmines how you build the front. If you raise the front first it will shift your weight too far back when you tow, and you will regret it if you plan to do any highway travel while towing, it will sag, sway and ride rough. You will be riding the overload spring, and your rear shocks won't damp anything.
@@Ethan-um7cp actually the 6112s feel way better on the highway they say because it gives way less body roll and it takes in big bumps better on shity paved roads it’s all around smoother
With the 6112s and the different coil spring weight capacity options available it looks like there are some things to consider with the three variables of coil spring weight capacity, strut clip length and lift amount. How do you determine what setting for the strut clip for any given coil spring to achieve a specific lift height? For example if I choose a light duty spring and place the clip on position #1 will that give me the same lift as using a heavy duty spring and the clip on position # 1.
Can you combine the remote rez 5160's on rear with 5100's shocks on front? I have a Ford F150 RWD 2011. I'm guessing it would be an overall smoother ride with better off-road handling than just 5100's all around?
I've been looking at the 4600 series for my 03' F150 that is my daily driver/tow vehicle. Not sure if the 5100's are right because they are more for lifted vehicles? Mine is a stock "off road" FX4 package, and I'm not sure what the factory "lift" is on those. Most likely going to buy the 4600's or replace with the Rancho RS5000's that came with the truck and are completly worn out. (guessing they are the original ones).
I am running the 6112/5160's (TRD pro model) on my 2nd gen taco I always wanted to know the payload capacity limits on the 5160's I am running my stock leaf springs but with single AAL's installed I overloaded the rear a few times pulling a boat & bags of ready mix cement to point where my rear end suspension was sagging & almost bottoming out does this affect the 5160's in the long run like reduced life expectancy & performance?
I drive my old 2001 GMC Sierra 1500, and it’s on newer KYB’s OEM, and I’m building it for over landing with life and kids in Canada. Do recommend going to front coil overs and do I need a lift kit first? I was looking at lifting it 2.5”. What are your thoughts. Also great video it was very informative
That vehicle doesn't have coilovers available, unless you go with a full conversion kit, which is unnecessary for what you're going after. You can do a 2.5" lift with the torsion keys alone, and get Bilstein 5100s to match that lift height.
I have 6112 that came fully assembled for my 2019 tundra I have it on the top setting would it be any better or difference off roading if I use a lift spring and lower it to the lowest setting compared to the spring it came with snd the preload it has due to being at top setting
If you are happy with your ride quality we'd suggest sticking with the springs provided. You can pick up springs with a longer free height and higher rate if you wanted to tune your ride a bit more.
Great vid, but I need help. Long story short I run 5100 front, rear set to stock with ome885 up front 1’block in the rear. I hate the ride, it’s way to stiff an firm for daily driving. Jarring to say the least. I have a 19 taco that since 19 I hit the trails 6 times. My question is should I go with the 6112? What spring? An what clip to achieve a 2 inch lift. Also does preloading the coil affect ride quality. What I need is a lifted daily that drives comfortably. Thanks for the help.
Great video! Answered some questions for me. I had 5100s put on my Colorado. Put it at the highest "2.6" setting and yes it was "leveled" and cleared the front tires, (I also went up one tire size) and it ended up making it spongy and in need of rear stabilizer) I also experienced a 75mph and up shake. So far I have had 4 unsuccessful balances and 3 bad alignments! What happened? Also I went from oem sized Michelin street tires to "Patagonia" Milestar semi-offroad tires. Are the front coil springs less "loaded" when you go up from stock height? 3 of the Patagonias took 1/4oz-1/2oz of weight to balance, and the forth takes 4.5 ozs.
The Patagonias are known for being harder to balance and don't have the best quality control. Get a higher quality tire that will balance with less weight.
I've been waiting for 6112s for a 5th gen 4 runner since Dec 3rd. Almost canceled to go with the ironman 4x4 setup, but decided to wait it out. Hopefully by April I get them.
Would the 5100 be a good upgrade for the stock Bilsteins in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4X4? I want to leave it stock, no lift… I want to go with better shocks though…it came stock with the Bilsteins.
Due to the shock shortages this year, I had to go with 6112 with 5100 rears in my 3rd gen Tacoma. Might upgrade to 5160's in the future but not sure if it's better just to save for a whole new setup down the road. Maybe 8112's lol.
@@marcoallende3683 Loving the setup, took the truck on a 500 mile off road trip to Death Valley and the Inyo Mtns. Have the 6112's in the front made the ride smoother than my buddy's truck who has 5100's all around. If you're planning to add any steel bumpers or winches in the front, I would get upgraded 650 lb springs. I believe the default spring for the 6112 is 600 lbs.
@@khantra4568 no plans to add any weight, bumper or winch, just want to level it and improve my ride quality. Sounds like the set up I'd go for. I'm pretty set on getting the 6212, when they're finally available, but curious about springs. I keep hearing people complain about rough, stiff ride quality with a preloaded spring to achieve 2" up front. The kits I'm seeing on their website come with a spring and am hoping that would prevent any issues with a rough ride.
How does the 6112 ride on the road, please define. Because I have the 5100 front, rear set to stock with ome 885 and a 1’s block in the rear. The ride quality is jarring. Stiff and way to stiff for commuting daily. So I debating if I should buy the 6112 or go back to stock
Going with the heavier springs on the 6112 would be best if you have extra weight up front such as an offroad bumper and winch. You might not like the ride quality of you stepped up to a heavy spring without the weight.
So now the question is, how to get 2.5" of lift on a Tacoma without having to pre-load the shit out of the spring by moving that shock ring all the way up? I keep hearing the ride isn't good when you do that...
Hey thank y’all so much for this video! Incredibly informative! I’m looking to get the 5100 kit, and was told that you shouldn’t max them out to the 2.5” inch height because it will reduce the height of the shock.. is there any truth to this? (I drive a 18 tacoma). I’m also gonna be adding UCA’s. My last question is if i add 33s if they would clear or would i have to do some minor plastic trimming? thanks in advance!
"...reduce the height of the shock" The more precise way to view it is that raising the ride height using this adjustment is also consuming exactly that much of the upward travel/extension of the shock. Probably not a big deal by itself because the other components (in OEM form) are going to limit range of motion anyway. If your UCAs are intended to increase range of motion, maybe you need a longer than OEM shock anyway.
thank you, i have a 2012 TRD TX Baja and need new shocks. The fronts are discontinued and i cannot find, been told for this model the 6112's with the current coils is the way to go?? Also, the 5160's in the rear but are the TRD Bilstiens shocks different?
What's the best setting to run the 5100s on a 2017 Tundra? Leaning toward middle setting as I dont want to chance front being higher or run into issues w higher front w heavy payload. Thoughts?

It's a heavy truck not a car and I am well aware of that but once in a while it comes in handy.
Would you still recommend the lift struts.
Did you do the airbag delete? If so what kit?
Decided on 6112 on the front. Can't decide between 5100 and 5160 on the rear. I really want 5160 believing it would be better offroad, but there are many instances 5160 leak. Kind of stuck! Do you think 5160 is better offroad than 5100?
Great video!!!! thanks for the information you answered all my questions about these two shocks
Awesome explanation. Researching for a potential Toyota 4Runner project.
Did you put 1” blocks in the rear?
Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much.
@@pn312 have you tried the 6112s yet?

Thank you, you clarified so much, i will settle for 5100s for a few years

A very informative video. Nice job!
Excellent information!
Great setup and great perspective! Really can't go wrong with the 6112/5160s

I have the 6112/5160 combo on my FJ Cruiser set to factory height. Really glad I made the investment over the 5100s now. It absolutely bombs down beat up county roads and leaves me plenty of overhead if I decide to lift and do larger tires in the future.
But how’s the ride quality on the street
how's it do on washboard roads? Or does it not help much?

I had the 6112 front and 5100 rear on my tundra. Absolutely loved the ride. Can't wait to do the same on my f150
I'm thinking of going this route on my Titan.
After installation what was the lift in inches?
I got a 2019 tundra and looking to upgrade.
did you use the factory coil springs?
Going this way on my F150 also. I need front springs so considering price of both 5100 or 6112 assembled with springs looks like around $300. It’s just a street driver but seems like a no brainer to get the 6112s, don’t need them but for $300 more considering set assembled with springs??
Thoughts?
$300 difference in price for pair assembled with springs.
Would you guys be able to do a coilover/shock comparison between the brands that you carry? ie: radflo vs fox vs Ome vs dobinsons etc...Thanks! Love all the content that you guys are putting out.
That's a tall order, but definitely something we can look into!

Great video.
Great video! I'm looking at the 5100s for my frontier that has considerable weight in the back (tools and drawer/platform system). Thoughts on going with a leaf pack to additionally raise the rear?
Got TRD tuned 6112/5160 on my 2016 FJ Cruiser, couldn't be happier on or off road.
I have a 2007 Toyota FJ 4x4. Looking for about 2.5/3 inches of lift. It’s my daily driver and I got out on trails during the weekend(light trails nothing crazy) what would you recommend? I’ve heard very good things about these Bilstein kits.
Great explanation video; however there was a phrase mentioned several times that wasn't clearly explained: Rides very well :)
This seems subjective.
Thanks
Thank you for video
Great Presentation
I ran 5100 on a frontier I had a few years ago. I loved them enough to buy them again two weeks ago for a GMC Sierra I just got and install them this past weekend. Would recommend to anyone over and over.
Question, what kind of driving do you do? On my 07 Silverado I want to make it mor comfortable when going fast over rough terrain. Gravel/Dirt roads mild trials etc etc. I’m not building a Prerunner but I do want something that’s ok road wise but soon as you hit a horrible bridge in NC it soaks it up like nothing and keeps on keeping on
About to buy the 5100 kit for my '21 TRD Off road Tacoma. 90% Daily Driver and 10% weekend overlanding.
i use the 5100 on the rears and they are great! 2000 tacoma
@@robbieyh 5100 are your basic budget shock, don't expect much in terms of improved ride. it will stiffen it up, but it won't dampen rebound like a high quality CO like fox, king, etc.
@Justin M. will the 6112 give an improved ride quality without making the truck to stiff?
Great Video
I recently got a 2014 4runner SR5 in excellent condition, and I am so in love with my car. That said, I did notice that it does like a nosedive when applying brakes. Also, the ride quality is excellent, but again a little bit too soft. I'd like to eliminate as much as possible that nosedive and also a firmer ride. Do you think 5100 with stock coils would resolve this?
Thanks!
using the 5100 at it's higher spring perches will give you some lift and will add some firmness to the ride
I want to know the same
I'd like to know the same thing too and am having the same issue with all the reviews.
Same question here. I watched a few other videos and landed here czcams.com/video/55zr3LuemwI/video.html
basically, the recommendation usually lands with 6112 in the front and 5160 at the rear. The 5100 seem to be cost effective OEM replacements for "usual" trucks ( so those which are not prepared already by the factory for hard off-road use)
In my opinion he didn't compare much of anything to be honest
I have 5100s but can’t speak on the 6112. 5100s are installed on my 07 Sierra, so a heavier vehicle. Don’t experience much body roll, if any and they do really well on the interstate. I do want to try the 6112 so maybe in the future I’ll be able to compare them lol
I have a 2007 Tundra TRD pkg. The ride is super stiff. I am looking for a more smoother comfortable ride more than anything. Do you recommend I go with 5100s on all 4 corners? Or 6112s up front and 5100s in the rear? Or is there another brand near the same price point that rides real smooth?
awesome vid
Thank you for the very informative video and information. I am at a crossroads as I need new front springs so looks like I need the 6112 and 5160. I have a 2003 T4R with V8 and am wondering what is the highest lift I can go without needing spacers etc to address the transfer case and cv angles?
The 6112s are an "OE Length" shock so you won't need to do any sort of diff/t-case drop with that setup. You'll see up to 2.25" of lift from that kit. We have a variety of rear coil spring options manufactured for us. Feel free to shoot us a message on facebook or via email if you have any more questions!
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks
Here's a thought:
Get some Firestone Ride Rite air bags. You can air up for loads or release some pressure for a better ride without a load.

We aren't as experienced with the fullsize rigs but Bilstein is always a good option if they're making something for the 2021.
Good review. Think I'll wait until I get a little bit more miles on my truck, and just replace them with the 5100s.
Is Amaury's last sentence/question even a possibility? - Can you achieve all three?
Can you get a different coil to allow for more lift?
With the 6112s and the different coil spring weight capacity options available it looks like there are some things to consider with the three variables of coil spring weight capacity, strut clip length and lift amount. How do you determine what setting for the strut clip for any given coil spring to achieve a specific lift height? For example if I choose a light duty spring and place the clip on position #1 will that give me the same lift as using a heavy duty spring and the clip on position # 1.
Springs are typically the same length. The difference is in the diameter of the coil spring wire. Thicker coils are heavy duty.

Can you combine the remote rez 5160's on rear with 5100's shocks on front? I have a Ford F150 RWD 2011. I'm guessing it would be an overall smoother ride with better off-road handling than just 5100's all around?
This is AMERICA, you can do anything you want..
Thanks for sharing. Which kits are avaiable for Pajero NS ?
As long as your bumpstops are doing their job, you shouldn't be at risk of damaging your shocks by putting heavy weight in the back.
I think the 6112 with the 5100 paired in the back is the idea combo.
@@ShockSurplus Thank you, great advice!

What I need is a lifted daily that drives comfortably. Thanks for the help.
I have my 6112s maxed out on the pre-load for maximum ride height. It still rides great and much better over stock!
Weird because I just went with 5100’s on my 2021 TRD and the ride is WAY better than stock.🤔

5100 rears are still a very solid shock. You would likely be better off putting that money into a different upgrade on your truck
How are you liking them so far? Was the ride quality difference noticeable?
2020 Silverado 3.0 duramax 4x4 crew, I have a 6112 kit but I am curious to the lift difference with the heavier springs? And how much for them. Thanks
More than anything, maxing the height reduces ride quality. For 33" you'll have to trim some plastic.
"...reduce the height of the shock"
The more precise way to view it is that raising the ride height using this adjustment is also consuming exactly that much of the upward travel/extension of the shock. Probably not a big deal by itself because the other components (in OEM form) are going to limit range of motion anyway.
If your UCAs are intended to increase range of motion, maybe you need a longer than OEM shock anyway.
