    You might want to mention up front that there at least two different types of drum brake mechanisms for the 07 - 13 Silverados. One does NOT utilize the large blue spring clip and brake pad does NOT come with the parking brake mechanism attached to the brake shoe . . .

    Removing the respective Park Brake Cable from the Park Brake Equalizer was a great tip for reinstalling the cable through the shoe spring. Also, if I had it to do over, I would re-use the original spring set instead of buying a Dorman replacement set. The OE version seemed higher quality and was still in good shape.

    This video is far and away the single best ever produced on how to complete this job on this equipment. Excellent production and camera angles where you can see exactly what is being done. Awesome and very helpful hints such as Loosening the parking brake linkage to easier thread the cable and bullet into the spring and arm. I struggled with this job greatly trying to use several other sub par videos as reference. Thankfully stumbled upon this video and it was a game changer. Job finished. I also like the tip at the end on better prefitting the brake drum. Great job guys! Thank you very much.

    Thanks for the video. The big spring is a real pain. I found it easier to remove the worn shoe opposite the parking brake while leaving the big spring on the one with the brake cable, then replace the shoe. Next remove the parking brake shoe and replace it. Doing it like this helps hold the spring in place and made it much easier for me to use the needle nose vice grips I had.

      I'll have to try that next time. On the plus side, if you do want to disassemble the whole thing, I think you could do so in about 10 seconds once the drum is off. I've never seen brakes that come apart so easy. It's just a pain getting it all back together. One thing that helped is squishing the pistons in first thing. Obvious in hindsight.

    Great video! One thing that I did differently was to use my straight jaw needle nose in line with the bullet with a jaw on top of it and the other underneath its housing to easily free the E brake cable from the shoe...I really appreciated the tip on popping same cable loose from the junction and pushing it through to gain slack for reassemble. Who da thunk! Thank you!

    Your videos are always spot on, and sometimes they literally bring me back from the brink of insanity. The only thing I would suggest on this video is an update to the description. It says 07-13, it should include 06, maybe additional years as well. Your video for 99-06 has rear disk breaks. I'm working on an 06 right now with drums entirely identical to these. Luckily I knew to look at other years to find these drum brakes.

    You may want to tell people to use some brake cleaner to cleanup the drum and shoes before putting it all together. The last thing you want is grease to be between the drum and brake shoes. I've seen drums come with a light coat of oil to prevent surface rust.

      If you are not sure of what brakes you have then the best bet is to remove the brake shoes and drum and take them to the auto parts store or measure them and that will tell you the correct size. Make sure you take pics as you are removing things and replace in reverse order.

    What would happen if I forgot to install the little bracket washer that goes on that screw thing in between the shoes?? By any chance does anyone know? And would it be okay till I get one?

    What is the part of the drum brake that you never took off? My bleeder valve screw broke the threads on the inside of the bleed valve connection

    This don’t look too hard to do. Maybe I can do this by myself. But I would have to replay this video before I do it.

    Why are these brakes different from the other Silverado drum brake video you have with the same years? I don't get it. Which years use which brakes?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  Před 5 lety

      +MrCoffeekelly The procedure will be the same given the year make model and specifications match. We are updating our videos and using better equipment to try to give a better look into how to make various different repairs

      @@1AAuto I understand the procedure is the same, but why are there two different types of brake drums on 2 of your videos for the identical year and model truck?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  Před 5 lety

      After review of the videos, it appears the first video from 2013 the OE drum is being placed back on the vehicle while our new video from 2018 is using a new rotor. However, the design still appears to be the same. We apologize for any confusion. +MrCoffeekelly

      @@MrCoffeekelly I get what you're saying the amount of springs in the first video vs the big W shaped spring clip in this video and I would agree 2 different configurations
