      When parking in direct sunlight,make sure to use a windshield shade. Otherwise there's a good chance that the color will bubble up and peel off. Then you're dashboard will look like crap. I'm from WA. and it rains about 9 months out of the year here. We don't get blazing hot summers usually. I guess it's hot enough to make it peel though. It's like GM used plasti-dip on the dash.

      Dash board falls in cause it’s made at Disney land . Out of mouse ears from trash can . Yes connections in this truck all over his truck made at Disney World. Goofy designed all the connections. GM sucks they want like 80k for a truck now . But really it would take 4 ltz trucks . To equal the money.

    My Top 5 issues with this model:
    1) The Chevy Shake: This is a frame design flaw. GM recommends keeping 250lbs in bed.
    2) Accessory belt slip and squeal: Simply use Armour All or tire shine on the backside of belt.
    3) DOD 5.3 L engine consumes a ton of oil: Reprogram engine to not go into 4 cylinder mode.
    4) Brakes can be very week and hard to push pedal. (Rear drum models): Master cylinder booster swap.
    5) Water entry in rear doors: Pull plug from bottom of doors and let it always drain out.
    Bonus complaint: Rear fender wells in bed rot out if not sprayed inside via tail light removal.

    He is right about the steering position sensor. I hit a nasty hole in the road and took my truck (2010 Silverado LS) to an independent shop to get it aligned. After driving for about 10 mins back home, I got the annoying orange triangle for the Stabilitrak system. Took it back and after several attempts, they could not figure it out and credit me back the alignment and diagnostic cost. I went to the dealer and they said it was the steering position sensor. OK but one big problem. GM does not make the 6 pin sensor for the 2nd gen anymore; they only make the 8 pin for the 3rd gen and up. I mentioned that the steering wheel was not at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight. They aligned it and got the steering wheel back. No more annoying orange triangle.
    If anyone has this problem make sure your steering wheel is at the 12 o'clock position when driving straight and you have a good alignment done before checking for any other causes that make the Service Stabilitrak light come on.

      My oil consumption, at least some of it, I have concluded is that the Valve Stem Seals are bad.

  • @1bishw
    @1bishw Před měsícem +1

    For everyone, the high oil consumption is actually by design. It’s the Automatic Fuel Management AFM. When the AFM shuts off the 4 cylinders, it squirts a little extra oil into those valves to keep them lubricated. When they start back up, that oil is burnt. I had that problem along with carbon buildup on those four spark plugs from the extra oil. I got an AFM disabler, with keeps it in V8 and it fixed those problems. I lost a mile or two in gas mileage, but the truck runs so much smoother and the power is instantaneous on acceleration.

    I had an 03 Silverado with 185,000 miles on it and traded it on a 07 Silverado and now have 160,000 miles on it. Never had any of the problems you listed. I did put it a water pump on the 03 around 160,000 and around 40,000 I had a problem with the encoder motor on the 4 wheel drive system. Couple ball joints replaced on both pickups. I just did have to replace my main fuse panel under the hood on my 07. So if you drive one of these and it just shuts off make sure you check that out before spending money on a fuel pump like my dealer said was bad.

    I've a Cheyenne 2013, the problems that i had;
    1) it eats a lot of engine oil, like half a quart every month.
    2) I've replace the oil pressure switch.
    3) It has a P0121 (without power reduction) related to throttle body & every time i clean it (taking care of not opening obturator) the CEL goes away but the idle stays high during days even weeks while relearn procedure. a couple of moths later, P0121 always comes back.
    4) Some days ago started to hear whine noise while desaccelerating, i check the diff & pinion seal was leaking, while replacing it, the 32mm pinion nut came out by hand, so i couldn't torque back to 14 in/pound the preload, my torque wrench don't measure until 10 ft/pound & a couple of hours driving the whine sound came back, so i think the bearing preload is wrong.

    We have 3 in our municipality fleet, we haven’t had any issues yet with throttle bodies or the brake switches, inside door handles yes and I used a Dorman kit for that, the steering angle sensors yes,and the blower motor and resistor block and connector has melted on all the trucks around 80,000 miles but our trucks have a ton of running hours with ac on sitting . Also these trucks have all cracked the transmission dipstick tube just above the mounting tab above the trans mounting bolt. The lower steering shafts seize up here in the salt belt just like the 01-07 classics. We’ve also had a few front brake pull issues and the steel 18” base rims that come on the 10,700 GVWR 1 ton single wheel trucks bend very easily.Weve had several now..... The brake line materials are way better than the 01-07 classics however the trans cooler lines and oil cooler lines are no better trans lines are rusting out and oil cooler lines are leaking at the fittings ....

The previous owner took very good care of this truck and so far, the maintenance that’s been done is normal wear and tear given the age of the truck. The only thing I’ve done outside of normal maintenance is that I purchased an AFM disabler to stop the engine from shifting back and forth from 4 cyl to 8 cyl. That $200 purchase made all the difference in the world. This truck drives like a dream. I’ve only put 6K miles on this truck because I van pool to work plus I have another car. Truth, but instead of the silly range device get an actual tune on the truck and get the AFM disabled that way as well as firm up and change shift points, and throttle sensitivity. I hated the way my truck drove before that. Now I love it, it performs and drives much better after the black bear tune even though I did give up some mpg. 122k miles so far on my 2012 1500 and it’s needed nothing. Bought it with 74k miles and changed every fluid, leveled it and better shocks, tires, and LED lights and it’s everything I need. Well everything except it’s got the stupid 3.08 gears in it, but those are getting swapped out.

    A little late on my comment but i just had this other issue with the brake light switch. My switch had all the other symptoms you mentioned, Cruise, brake lights staying on. What happened in my case was when i was pulling my camper, because the brake light switch would not fully disengage , it made my trailer brakes (electric)not completely disengage because it was still sending power to the brake controller. Dang near had a fire on the trailer brakes.. Hope this helps someone else. Something to keep in mind..

I replaced both valves in that cylinder and less than 5k miles later I have another misfire. I haven’t diagnosed it yet but if it is the #6 again then that would mean that cylinder isn’t getting properly lubricated right? What would cause that?

Cam and lifter wear to a point that you get mis fires and it starts around 165,000miles. The fuel control module is mounted over the spare tire. The trouble coude for that pretty much leads you to it. Is it a waste of ink to even write rocker panel rust for chevy or is it just nutons law law. All that was when the truck was between 4 months and 9 years old ( rack and pinion and rear main seal was covered).

    Well I haven’t had any of these problems, but I have many others. Like water leaking in on the passenger side. I had a new windshield put in so that’s not the problem. I recalked the access panel under the cowling then covered it with Gater seal tape, and it still gets wet inside. The only way I can think of that water might be able to get in is the drain through the flapper under the cowling. I hope I can see how that’s connected by removing the the RF inner wheel well.

    I have replaced the brake relay and the brake switch brakes which three times in the last month and brake relay two times in the last year. My issue is it works until I hit the brakes and then all of a sudden the cruise control stopped working in my service trailer brake light switch comes on. It works though when I’m hooked to my camper all the lights work but it’s not stopping the brakes and I know it’s not the brakes on the trailer camper because I only have. About maybe 100 miles 150 miles on the camper itself. The brake lights work on the truck that works on my small little trailer but every time I replaced the brakes which it seems like it goes out right away. What is up with that

    Heard loud clank noise after accelerating from stop and would stutter forward at 150k miles on 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 engine light came on. Towed it to mechanic shop said it was the 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder system that caused it and it’s common on engine like that from Chevy so option would be to open it up see what’s damaged or buy all new engine what would be average cost of something like this . And your best guess to what caused loud metal clank and jerking from stop to accelerating .

    • @chevyon37s
      @chevyon37s Před 3 lety

      Yes the avalanche, Tahoe, and suburban suffer the same issues since they’re all the same parts across those models. Power folding mirrors could be electrical (bad switch or bad motor) or physical like if the gears in the hinge are damaged. If somebody has manually forced the mirrors open or closed that is really hard on the gears.
      that’s what happened to my passenger side mirror somebody folded mine in by hand and busted a tooth off the gear so sometimes it won’t fold, but if you get it start pulling the mirror in manually as you hit the button to fold it will then catch and fold

    08 constantly breaking rear leaf springs. I'm on my 6th or 7th replacement spring even after beefing them up with an extra leaf. My heaviest load is an ATV which weighs 350 lbs. Next complaint is the aenemic 4wd indicator knob hidden discretely behind the steering wheel. I can't count how many times I've pulled in my driveway at home to discover I'm still in AWD or 4wd because I didn't notice the pin-prick of a light was still on.
