    A Bates Motel style series was the only way to go in regards to longevity and mass appeal to general audiences...

    I’m game for any scenario that freshens up the Friday franchise. I Just hope the counselors and the wild life don’t send Jason up like he’s crowd surfing and embarrass a legendary character like that dumpster fire of a movie Halloween ends.

    There is so many ways they can take this. I liked the script idea that was written like a coming of age film a la John Hughes style with Jason. I also dig a comic storyline where Jason protects a disfigured kid who reminds him of himself. There is also the prequel route with Pamela or expanding the mythology like Never Hike Alone. All of these avenues keep the dna of the series but have a fresh spin on it.

    Pamela Voorhees, done today, can be very compelling character, rather than surface level revenge of a mother. There’s so many different ways you can go. The grief, the hard time of raising someone intellectually and physically disabled, single mother, her relationship with Jason father, other men/women. You could create a modern feminist icon in horror from Pamela. It really has more range than Jason, unless you change the character as it was in the original series, especially part 1-2, where his intelligence is child like.

      Great point. Its a very logical direction, way better than our typical slice'em and dice'em teens at summer camp story.

      @@DaveMcRaeOfficial I would have loved the series done by Bryan Fuller as a reimagining of the original series if that was his idea, then we could have gotten a cool new version of the strange Jason Goes to Hell body horror concept. Don't care if I'm in the minority. I love eldritch abomination Jason and the idea of exploring his family bloodline.
      Also want my Halloween anthology with a sequel or reimagining of season of the witch. Sometimes fans suck for politicizing these franchises this way.

    Mia Goth would be great as a young Pamela Voorhees. Let's get her in a cable knit sweater!

    I said this a few years ago in one of Dave's live streams, I'd love to see a Pamela centered Friday the 13th series at least season 1.
    Explore the back story a prequel series would be great.

      According to Robert Meyer Burnett who’s a friend to Fuller, take with a grain of salt, this was exactly what we could’ve get. Most likely they will do another strict generic camper slasher we’ve seen 200 times already

    That's a fair assessment of the Terrifier comparison Dave, I didn't consider the lack of the MPAA's involvement when i commented the other day... that does give them an edge drawing in the crowds.
    I guess for me, a movie I would still rather it be more Jason-centric... but for a show?
    If it's clever and keeps the canon in check I'll be good... now, if it goes overly cliché or showhorning in unnecessary backstory (ie: Jason Goes to Hell) then I'm out. 😄
    I will stay optimistic, but i really need to hear who has creative control because so many current showrunners are turning out dreck that is not respecting its source material.

    This is the same issue that I had with people who vehemently hate Halloween Ends. I umderstood the mission: how scary was a 70 yr old man gonna be? It was time for Michael to end and to get a new, younger killer.

    To my the real F13th saga will always be the first four films. Period. But at the same time I totally agree with you, Dave. For new projects it needs to evolve and starting with Pamela could be awesome and sooo creepy! Keep the good job!

      totally disagree that Pamela would sell in today's market... Terrifyer works because of the mass gore which some people are into but is total waste of time.. nostalgia and the 80's Jason can be brought back and kids should can be exposed to horror done right with atmosphere..

    Hey Dave, great vid. I think you mis-understood my superchat. I'm all for 'meat on the bone' and plot twists when it's in a genre that benifits from that. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Game. And it could be argued another of my faves, Psycho, has the biggest plot twist of all time. However Psycho isn't a slasher movie. Friday the 13th is. So what I'm saying is don't take the slasher genre and turn it into something that it isn't just to make a cheap buck. If they want to make a Peacock series about a demented camp cook with a convoluted back storie then let them do it. But by making it cannon to the Friday the 13th series is just to ensure people watch it. Make it an original peice, take away Pamela and Jason and let the chips fall where they may, as you say. 2009 flopped, yes. That means the guy in a mask killing teenagers era is over, probably. Although DGG and DM might have had different opinions on that in the fall of 2018. Anyway, i hope I've cleared up my thoughts. Thanks for the vid and I look forward to the next one as always. Richard.

    I don't get the aversion to Pamela from fans. No matter how you might feel about that first movie, the franchise started with Pamela, and it makes all the sense in the world to go back and start with her. There's definitely a story to be told there that can add not just to her character, but Jason's as well. How cool will it be to have a movie or tv show that does a good job of building her up, but also building towards Jason's inevitable return after her death.

  • @timbarr8564

    I agree with your take 100% Dave! I love when you go on your rants about these movie's! Because as much as I love the Friday the 13th series it was pretty shitty. The films were mad pretty poorly, except for 4 and 6. There is a lot of story they could explore for sure. I did not like the remake that much at all. I thought it was just another run of the mill 2000's slasher that was over bloated and just like a music video cast of shitty ass characters that you hate that are just there for Jason to slaughter!

    What do you think about the dark secret approach for a Friday the 13th movie like the kids who bullied Jason and let him drown are grown up now and they think they killed Jason so they try to cover it up for some bullshit accident but he really survived and Jason and Pamela come back for the kids 20 some years later

    hell no to a Pamela movie Dave because then they'd have to show a young Jason more and more which would be like Zombie's Halloween showing young Michael for the first half of the movie which is the worst part of it... set Jason up for a part 2,3,4 reboot like they did with Halloween.. set one in fall then winter then spring/summer. . maybe move him out of camp to somewhere nearby that he could realisticly get to thru the woods...

    • @DaveMcRaeOfficial
      @DaveMcRaeOfficial  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Completely disagree. Jason Voorhees is not Michael.Myers. Developing a young Jason and his relationship with his mother (which is the fundamental foundation for his existence, and the reason he kills) is a fascinating perspective. As I mentioned in the video, his sole purpose for killing is to avenge his mother's death. Pamela and her relationship with Jason is one of the most untapped yet incredibly important things never seen in horror.

    • @michaeledwards1644
      @michaeledwards1644 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@DaveMcRaeOfficial you'd be trusting them (whoever is making the movie and writting it) with doing it right and it would have to be done right for it to work.. but do you really think we could trust anyone today to make that type of movie?

    • @ButterCookie1984
      @ButterCookie1984 Před 2 měsíci

      It wouldn't be akin to a Zombie film because the mystique of Jason is already known, from Part 1. This was never the case with Michael.

    • @michaeledwards1644
      @michaeledwards1644 Před 2 měsíci

      @@ButterCookie1984 but you never know which new story they could create to add to him just being a boy bullied who drowned..they might create some whole new backstory like they did with Michael being the son of a drunk and crimpled drunk low class instead of upper middle class family like in the original Halloween.

  • @geoffhill1197
    @geoffhill1197 Před 2 měsíci

    You see him Friday 13th has to evolve you have a small point when it comes to that and needs more story you pretty much got to keep it you got to keep it the formula of the 100% this the same you got to have Jason Jason in the woods killing because that is the formula I'm not saying you can't change some things up a little bit and add some more substance and story but the formula is the formula Halloween is pretty much Halloween it's been Halloween for 40 years
