  • Well, I was looking for some Tempts videos on Ares and I came across this one. Now I know some people have already posted performances featuring this song here on CZcams but this particular clip I've never seen before. But wait a minute, wait a minute....someone's missing....where's Paul???? And WHY IN THE WORLD is Otis singing his parts?? Lol.....by the way I have NO CLUE what show this is from so if someone out there knows please, share the info! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!! Hehe....enjoy!! :-)

LOL!! I saw that one!!! Very funny looking.....it was as if the audience wasn't going to notice that Otis was lip-syncing the other memeber's parts. Ha!!

God me too! at least when Flo was with The Supremes you couldnt tell that there was any issues behind closed doors. If I was in that audience I would be so PISSED!

There is another performance on CZcams where Eddie is not there and they are performing Could Nine and Otis is lipsyncing Eddie's parts, I guess those were the only two times in his career that he sounded good !! Ha! Ha! Ha! (Kidding)

What are you talking about? in what performance did Flo walk off the stage?

Eddie does look more pissed than usual. Lol. Actually, he often looked serious in later Tempts TV performances, but still managed to crack a smile once or twice, during performances of this and other songs. Here, he is super serious. Incidentally, they should have let Dennis lip synched Paul's parts. Their more similar voices would have made this performance more believable.

Otis really didn't have anything to do w/Paul not coming on tour. Collectively the temps tried everything they could to keep Paul going. They had Richard Street sing his parts off stage while he performed, poured out his booze & even kept him on payroll when his doctor found a spot on his liver & told him he had to quit the temps. Eddie's beef was w/Motown & the fact that they wouldn't let him go solo & stay w/the group.

Thank you for your wonderful theory! I think those reasons for why Paul wasn't there for this performance are believable. So, so sad and Eddie always lets his feelings be known about certain situations (well in his facial expressions anyway). I don't like it when I watch performances and see that Eddie is upset especially when he's usually one of the smiley ones! :-(

LOL!! Yes, he is. Wow....lol....I don't know why he's singing Paul's parts though. It just looks funny!

Aside from Paul’s absence, this is the only footage I’ve seen of them doing the original version of this song. Kinda sad cuz it never sounded good live it was always way too fast. Eddie does look upset in this clip, but hey, the show must go on. Eddie Kendricks was my all time favorite Temptation. When he left in ‘71 things were never the same again. His solo career from ‘71-‘77 on Motown produced many classic hits and he’s the only Temp to go on his own and have a number one smash hit.

I'm not sure why Paul is not on this broadcast, but he was still a member of the group at this time. Eddie was still clean faced here, and hadn't permanently adopted the goatee yet. They're also performing their then current hit. They were still months away from "Ball of Confusion", and other psychedelic hits, before returning to ballads like "Just My Imagination". Besides, this performance here is in1970. Eddie left the group before Paul, in the spring of 1971, after performing "Just My Imagination" for the first, and last time, on the Ed Sullivan Show. Therefore Paul was still in the group.

Poor Melvyn.....he is the only one looking like he wants to be there. I can only imagine what happened after this song was over.....you can feel the tension in this performance!

It's winter 1967 in Hammond, Indiana. This senior high school Temps fan gets to the Hammond Civic Center to see his fav vocal group get down !!! My fav Paul in a no show. But to their credit they still had some great harmony!!! 3 or 4 years later in Terre Haute, Indiana at Indiana State University its Otis, Blue, Dennis, and Paul. No Eddie cause he just quit. Paul was GREAT. All in all the harmony was sub par for the group. Dennis was terrible trying to sing Eddie's leads. Paul alone was worth the price to watch step and sing.!!! Old School!!

One more thought...look at Eddie at 0:55 man he does look pissed. If I was in that audience I would find it offensive that Otis was singing Pauls's part----Eddie,Paul and David got screwed.....Otis thinks they are all lightbulbs...when one burns out...you can just screw another one back in!!

It was a difficut time for Paul. He was in pain most of the time and on medication for his sickle cell disease , and needed oxygen quite often. This disease also affected his control over his limbs and his movements

This is too funny! My all time favorite look is Eddie at 0:55 and again at 2:03 (look at his mouth and how he points at Otis!) Yeah he Can't Get Next to Otis....the body language is awesome! I love it!!
