I'm blown away. These guys were the blueprint. I am sorry it just doesn't get any better than this.
They was some youngins right here! Tall, dark, and handsome! I absolutely love this! 😍
WYS🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
These guys were master vocalists
Melvin was really excited of being a Temptation. He could hardly contain his enthusiasm. 😁
Look at Eddie Kendrick, wow doesn’t he just melt your heart. And don’t leave out THE VOICE DAVID RUFFIN. 💯❤️
Eddie was one of the voices as well!
All of them!
I love them all,especially eddie
Eddie Kendricks voice really shines thru on ol man river. Special talent who really put the Temps over the top especially w harmonies.
Tommy what a group huh?Man they were the best Bro, the absolute real thing !!
Eddie David and Paul really knew harmony. Eddie usually did background arrangements... Eddie and David both going 1st tenor.
Melvin Franklin, what a voice! Base can't get better than this. Awesome! Yes, the greatest group ever!
BASS correct spelling for voice tone. BASE is correct spelling for BASEBALL e.g. 1ST BASE.
BARRY WHITE BASE WAAY BETTER
@@JACKBOIDAVE305 not at all.
@@JACKBOIDAVE305 nah….
@@JACKBOIDAVE305 you just like putting out dumb comments
Man. It’s great seeing Melvin sing lead.
This is legendary singing...Nobody in this generation can ever touch the Temptations...If you doubt me...Then show me????
darryl walker - The Beatles Who??????????
No one!!
I know right. Like today's Generation needs to listen to songs like this
True indeed
Masterclass singing ol man rivers performance gives me chills how raw their vocals are n just amazing harmony it rings together
The apex of showmanship.
The Temptations are musical Gods!
Originally I was searching purely for 'Get Ready' and was going to stop watching after it, but goodness was I mesmerised by 'Ol Man River'. It's wonderful.
The harmony is like no other.
Old Man River is just...wow! Beautiful, powerful.
Just pure class
Best version of Ol' Man River, bar none!
I have to agree!
Absolutely, my Brother! Melvin Franklin, a truly rare Basso Profundo. The entire world needed to hear his truly dynamic voice. Melvin could have made it as a premier performer of stage and screen, bar none! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
I would have been all over Eddie back in the day, I love his face/voice so much
Pretty Vicious I guess you can say you would have went pretty vicious on Eddie.
Paul Did Well On Backup Bass.
435 its amazing ! I probably been giving Melvin credit for Paul's notes!
Wow!! True Professional Talented Performers!!! R. I.P,
Paul sound good doing the bass.
Mr. Eddie Kendricks had such a beautiful smile...smiling the whole time while singing!!! These guys are so beautiful..thanks for sharing this amazing video...Temptations Forever!!!
This is a real treat of a performance. Eddie Kendricks’ voice and boyish charm stood out. And it was great to hear Melvin Franklin sing lead so convincingly on “Old Man River.” What a talented quintet the Temptations were! Temptations forever!
Temptations have such a great sound.
They were n their prime here, looked good, sounded even better, & I was thinking these 5 guyz were the blueprints that all artists were compared 2. I didn't realize the magnitude of their legacy until I became an adult. They truly, truly made history, we knew they were awesome, but nobody knew it'd b 50+ yrs later, & they still sound as fresh as 1965. Amazing.
Paul voice was thundering while singing bass for Ol' Man River
Matt Write the voice at bass was Melvin Franklin. Paul is the baritone tenor.
That's Melvin
I know Melvin was singing bass. But when everyone was singing the opening harmonies, Paul was on bass and Melvin was standing there
Paul was singing baritone in the opening. Low but still not as low basso profundo..
Paul did not sing bass.
They actually play this song live for real (and sound good doing it). How rare is that these days.
The harmony in this song “Old Man River” was awesome. I never heard them sing like this before. I couldn’t figure out what Melvin was saying a few times, but the melody was on point.
Awesome harmony. The Classic Temptations are hard to beat. Love them!~
OUTSTANDING! Music icons... never to be duplicated!
The greatest male group ever put together out all the temptations members this was the best 5 hands down period I take nothing away from Dennis Edwards but he had nothing on David and Melvin to me was the deepest bass singer on earth love these guys. Please post more old live videos
Check out the Ravens their lead singer was a basso profundo named Jimmy Ricks check out the Ravens singing Going Home on CZcams Melvin Franklin told me himself Jimmy Ricks was the bass he grew up listening
Jeffrey Cisrow George foreman and Muham Alimad
The supremes is the best female group
Dennis Edwards brought the "church revival" element in his singing voice. His place in the Temptations is secured just as much as David Ruffin's place in the Temptations is secured
@@djdatdude129 The Ronettes are the best female vocal group.
Much showmanship much talent awesome
That was pure musical genius, the likes of which the world may never see again.
I love this group so much
Me too.
I just got to know them in March 2022, I couldn't stop listening to them, everyday ! ❤️❤️❤️
I study about the group members and the songs, from originals until Damon Harris for now, at this moment.
Mostly from wikipedia and CZcams.
The greatest Falsetto singer of all time, Eddie Kendricks.
Don't forget about David Ruffin,Dennis Edwards and Paul Williams.
EDDIE KENDRICKS WAS A 1ST TENOR.
So innocent and adorable!
Even though David wasn’t a dancer, he used to kill the choreography Paul put together.
david was an excellent dancer 😉
Just listen to this performance. One gets an idea of how good you had to be in the '60s.
I see no lie here. Talent was a must !!
There will never be another group like the Temptations...
That was the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen or heard in my life.
Melvin and eddies voices 😍 were great here!
Melvin Maaan: That Voice Was Heaven Divine--Hope You ALL Are With My Dad!!
THE WONDERFUL TEMPTATIONS FOREVER !!!!!!! AND DAVID RUFFIN THE KING OF KINGS !!!!!!!!!
They could sing, dance, dress and they all were/is handsome ♥️♥️♥️ RIP to all that have died.
Beautiful Eddie Kendricks !!
I could listen to Melvin all day. He could rock me to sleep all night!
I knew David was always able to sing low bass, but hearing Paul sing bass on certain parts of Ol' Man River was amazing!
Matthew Wright never thought about that was a four man back up group on this song and Paul was the bassman , wow.
Paul’s moves at 1:13-1:17 - the Lawd shined on him. #Bless
Amazing performance of both songs and I love the 4 part harmony on Ole Man River.
I never had an appreciation for The Temptations until now (early 40's) and I can't get enough of them. You don't see this kind of showmanship and ability to deliver demanding vocal (and dance) performances much these days; just look at the sparkle in Eddie's eyes as tears up Get Ready...
What people are missing is everyone's mic is not leveled. Pauls mic was the most heard. Paul did do damn good though. But Melvin is the man. I don't know any bass singer that has his charisma.
LOVE LOVE LOVE everything they do!
I'd love to see these guys esp David in church when they was in church just love them xxxxxxxxxx
Can't thank you enough for this. Thanks so much for posting it. I was four years old when this aired. It's wonderful seeing it today.
lincolnadmirer You're very welcome. Glad you were able to view and enjoy it again. :-)
This is the best performance of Old Man River I've seen from The Temptations. Thanks for sharing.
That baritone so resonates, how awesome!
It is fitting that the Temptations are performing "Oldies Man River" in the very same outfits worn on their wonderful, superb "Mellow Mood" album. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
Who ever did it better please tell me the tall, tan, talented, terrific temptin temptations!
Listen to Paul from 3:16-3:50. He sounded great doing bass.
Kemani Iwu my friend that is baritone from Paul.
he sings bass on Ol Man River
Why would Paul sing bass???
Totally agree❤️
Beautiful! Damn I miss them Terribly.
Speaking of Paul's ability to sing bass, apparently his father's voice was deeper than Melvin's. I would have loved to have heard that.
+Michael Mobley Would've been pretty scary to hear haha
Yeah Otis....said they were shocked because Paul had always said so....then they met him
Paul is a tenor / baritone.
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you can sing anything no matter what people ask you to sing God bless them love them Linda j. Peace ☮️🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🙏🙏🙏🙏
Paul don't being no bass
Paul singing bass in the background thes guys have such great range (also Paul’s father sang deeper than Melvin)
That have never been proven
@@garymayfield5995 it has been proven it says so in the book maybe you should read some time
Paul is a baritone
@@rcthomas6925 so what Otis sings baritone and tenor too it don’t matter
@@johnomalley7211 The group had great range.
Otis sang some 1st and 2nd tenor background
David same
Eddie switched his lead vocals 1st and Second do tenor
Paul sang 2nd tenor lead and 2nd tenor and baritone background
Melvin bass lead and background
Wow I didn't know The Temptations sang old man river. I remember hearing Martin & his co stars singing this on an episode of "Martin" the one about the dead plumber lol.
they could've turned them guitars down a skosh and turned the backing 4 up a couple. Lord...technology has come far.
The boys are getting down.
They even talked in harmony. Listen to them introducing themselves. Amazing 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 voices. Astounding talent that has NEVER been duplicated...often imitated...but NEVER DUPLICATED.
What a treat having all 5 sing the lead at the beginning to start this classic off and Melvin's voice knocks me out. I saw them all together and they performed Ol' Man River, I'll never for get. Thanks for finding this Gem and who would have thought it would be on the Mike Douglas Show. The are all gone but, Otis he still keeps on keepin on. Dr. Doo Wop
RIP David Ruffin (1941-1991) RIP Eddie Kendrick (1939-1992) RIP Paul Williams (1939-1973) RIP Melvin Franklin (1942-1995) And RIP Dennis Edwards (1943-2018)
Now these are the temptations
Eddie sang a full lead in his natural voice on the album, Meet The Temptations on the cut, May I Have This Dance. He partially used his natural voice on a number of other songs, including Ball of Confusion, Lonely, Lonely World on the Temptin' Temptations album and Not Now, I'll Tell You Later on The Temptations Getting Ready.
Michael Mobley He also sang in his natural voice in a song called "My Pillow" on the Lost & Found album.
I love my temptations, Melvin has always been my favorite. This version is so awesome, all that talent in such a young man is just an awesome thing. You died way too soon 😥. Love you always 💖
real class act
The Temps teally were incredible..they were the background to the best years ever
Genius. Simply genius.
Classic Harmony,
The Classic Original Temptations.
Al Bryant was Temptation. Too. David Ruffin replaced him as lead singer.
Actually Eldridge Bryant was a original member he was fired and replaced by David Ruffin
Thanks for posting this, but Mike Douglas's audio techs weren't on their jobs on the background vocals for "Get Ready." My boys were killing it on background vocals, but you would never know it because the audio techs were sleeping. I guess that classic microphone tree threw them off, lol!
I'm glad someone else caught that besides me. You couldn't hear them at all. Luckily they fixed it by the time the did Ol' Man River.
Yes, the background vocals on Get Ready are normally great, but you couldn't even hear them here. A Shame.
@@oldschoolsinger oh they really fixed it too. Lol.🙌🏿♥️
so good, so classic
Them guys were great
Paul Williams was a tenor / baritone..
Paul Williams was an amazing singer, and the best dancer and choreography in the Temptations ❤
These Guys was Sooo Bless to have five Guys that could really sing. Eddie and Daivd two of The Greatest Balladers ❤ Ever. Love 💘 The Temptations. Thanks Melvin for putting this Group together you did an Awesome Job 👌
Profiles in Pittsburgh this was an amazing song for any group to sing. Are Temptations gave it their best and it made my heart filled with joy. Thank you sister Nora R Parker Carter
Speechless!
Wow, the real Temptation
From 5:50 is the part of the song that inspired so many groups of the day. I wore out my copy of 'Temptations Live' listening to the 4 part call that was repeated twice on the disc but only once during this performance. Otis was strong and clear on the call as the lead-in.
This performance is, quite simply, awesome. Burning on Get Ready!
Look at the movements. WOW
They had so much I love seeing these Goldie oldies. Never realized they wore such tight pants!!omg!! the smile is so classy
Listen to Paul kill it in the bass!
Melvin might have been under the weather....surprised and amazed that Paul had Melvin's back in singing some of Melvin's parts.
Looking & Sounding Sharp ... As Usual
Great video my favorite group the temps
Idc what nobody say ottis is the man
The studio version of this song is featured on "The Temptations In a Mellow Mood" album. It's great to see the Classic Five perform this song just like the album release around that same year. I never saw this footage before. Great post. Music historians, who compiled the Temptations Definitive Performances CD, stated that a lot of performance footage was lost, or never archived from their live performances, and is therefore limited. I beg to differ, thank God. As CZcams has proven, there are numerous performances of the Classic Five, from shows like Mike Douglas, and Ed Sullivan. Now, if all those performances can be collected and released as well.
renaissanceman165 i heard barry girdy recorded everyyything his acts did so i dont know about that
@@lorenzoadamson6893 Oh, I'm definitely sure that Motown has archived the footage. However, a lot of video producers don't have access or licensing rights to that footage. A prime example is the historic "TCB" special with the Supremes and Temptations from 1968, and their follow up special "GIT on Broadway". Both specials have never been officially released on DVD, by Motown, though bootleg versions are available on the internet. Whether Berry Gordy sees a market for it, or has other financial reasons, fans have been screaming for "TCB" to be released for years. On that historic television special, broadcast on NBC, Paul Williams performed his signature song "For Once In My Life", in front of a "nationwide audience". Check it Out! Ciao!!!
One of my favorite appearances from the Emperors of Soul! The Tempts made their last appearance with David Ruffin on April 18, 1968 on the Mike Douglas show and I will jumping for joy if I can see that performance!
Robert Velez i have been looking high and liw for that too...i heard they sang i could never love another after loving you
Lorenzo Adamson
Ole Man River remind me of Coleman High School, Greenville Ms back in the day.Well done , 🍾🍷
Ok for all that thinks Paul is singing bass he is not. Baritone.
My favorite song
AMAZING.
THE TEMPTATIONS!!/
Priceless. thank you ever so much for posting.
