Your dad was great , and he performed with some of the greatest people in Mo- Town , peace be with you , and be proud.

Paul's voice was smooth as butter, yet with sheer gritty passion. Definitely the most underrated Temptation. Sure hate that he was gone so soon

Paul had such a multi level of delivery, soul, jazzy, broadway, etc...you could feel his emotional delivery.
Paul was also the Group's original choreographer. He was the best dancer in the Group.

Dennis Edwards is the blueprint, vocally. He was able to do what some other similar singers hoped they were doing. Beautiful, powerful, expert singing.
Paul put his heart in "I Gotta Be Me"..which is what he did on each song he lead!!! My favorite Temp!!!

Talent like this doesn't come our way often. In their time there was no hiding behind technology like we have today to enhance a performance. These guys melded together in such a unique way - from Eddie's high to Melvin's low to Paul's raspy baritone....there is no equal in American music to the Temptations.

Paul of the temptations was great l miss him as well as all the others. David &Dennis &Ollie& Eddie & dAmond & Melvin & Richard they were superbad & no one except Paul & Sammy Davis Jr. Can sing.. Great group
The temptations were one of the best groups of all time . I wish I could have been there to see them live. They among others were pioneers to the music industry and watching the movie gave me such a great joy . I love biographies on music's kings .
People can say what they want about the Tempts not being the same when Ruffin left, and how Dennis is no David, but I tell you, Dennis Edwards could definitely hold his own, and indeed the Tempts success actually went higher with Dennis. Two Grammys and three Billboard number one hits. Ruffin was Ruffin, and Edwards was Edwards, but the Tempts were the best with BOTH of them as main leads

They got grammys that by then were long over do. It's a reason Ruffin and the Classic 5 is the general favorite. It's a reason My Girl is their most famous song and did to the charts something that was mind blowing.

Paul Williams was the boss. He was a mountain of confidence, poise and delivery. In my mind, there is no doubt what so ever that he was the most talented of any Temp.

I read somewhere that Paul was disenchanted about not being one of the main leads after David came in as he and Eddie sang leads on the popular hits, but I see Paul in a lot of these later clips doing a lot of the singing and I hope that fulfilled his desire to lead. He is magnificent on the standards. Besides having soul, Paul could have been a lounge singer as well (perhaps a little Sam Cooke-ish). I could see him in a tux with the top shirt button undone and the bow tie hanging.
Exactly I was thinking the same. He also has a great voice for those classic smokey jazzy songs. He was incredible in these clips.

Early on, I believe all of them had lead songs, but Paul was really a dynamic lead and he put everything into his songs. He was, usually, soaking wet, when he finished.

Dennis sings leads a live vesion of " A Song For You" that is phenomenal. We may all have our preferences, but we should just give each man his props.
In my opinion, no one in this group loved entertaining more than Paul and Melvin. Both very animated and showed sheer joy in performing....they were born to!

I know it's all opinions but I think Paul was just as great as David and Eddie. He sang lead on their early songs which may not have been chart toppers but he certainly held his own.

Well if it's about opinions, then I absolutely agree with yours. And in fact, I believe that it is not even open for discussion that Paul was as great as David and Eddie. I think he could have even been a leader of the group! Given Paul's talents such as his voice and it's unique qualities, his singing style, his moves, etc. unquestionably, Paul was never only a mere back-up singer for the group.

Today is November 18, 2013 and 18 viewers found something to dislike in this marvelous Temptations Show of 1969 where Paul Williams was still alive and singing some tunes which included his former Temptations member, David Ruffin's signature tune 'My Girl' along with Eddie Kendricks' silky smooth falsetto on 'Girl ( Why You Wanna Make Me Blue'), 'You're My Everything, and Melvin's near copycat rendition of the earlier Flamingos treatment of Ol' Man River' which still shines, and talented but tragically flawed alcoholic Kaye Stevens manages to not only hold her own against the fabulous Temptations, but actually also shines in her too brief turn w/the Temptations.
Some people are not knowledge as others.the Temptations are History of the making

Amazing post! It's like a mini concert. This video shows why Paul Williams is so beloved by many Tempts fans. His voice just captures your attention, whether he's singing strong and fast paced or soft and slow; that's definitely what it did with his performance of "I Gotta Be Me", and my jaw dropped when he sung My Girl. I was not expecting that. Each performance was top notch, and I just love the transition from Ol Man River to Swanee. Thx for this post, it's really appreciated

This is when artists had to have talent. The precision in which the Tempts move during "nobody but me" is excellent. Paul was an outstanding singer and dancer. His roots are truly in blues and soul. Kaye Stevens had some soul as a women in the 60s. It was clear she was enjoying herself. Great entertainment.

Great to see how many of us old Tempts fans are still around. Stumbled on to this wonderful post 2nite, and still clearly remember seeing it back in '69 with a bunch of my TKE brothers when I was a junior at Rutgers. Anyone who was fortunate enough to see them live back then was fortunate enough! Funny thing, I had just texted my 20 yr old daughter to make a good memory at Kanye West's show 2nite in AC.She now is a Jr. at Rutgers.Thanks, Tempts, for a lifetime of many great listening moments.

I have waited many years to see this show. Thank you very much. I love the part when Eddie had finished sing his part and was suppose to get back on stage and ended up doing his steps down on the lower platform.Priceless. Kay Stevens showed she could dance and sing with them. All these years all I had was the album. Now to see it Wow. Merry Christmas to me. Thank You God.
