When Paul sang For Once In My Life you could actually feel the pain and his suffering in his voice. As a grown man it kind of has me feeling a little emotional. The brother was a legend to be remembered.
The video didn't show the audience but he deserved a standing O for that. He sang from the depths of his soul. I get emotional every time I watch it.
Brother, when Paul died I was so hurt. Living in Detroit there was talk of him not killing himself. I mourn his passing if he was a close family member. I can understand your emotion his voice was amazing.
@@faiththingnotseen 👍
@@nettakay2116 On one of the videos they should where Adam Clayton Powell stood up in the ordinance with tears.
I totally agree!
Mr. Paul Williams is to the Temptations
What Ms. Florence Ballard was to the Supremes.....underated and unappreciated. May they both R.I.POWER!🙏
Unfortunately we’ll never know what it would’ve been like if these two had done a duet; something like I’m Gonna Make You Love Me.
@@alexandradillard2077 Wow!! That would have become a smash hit!!
You could always hear the pain in his voice. Troubled man, troubled body, troubled soul. I. Pray he is resting. I think he was murdered though. The circumstances surrounding the story were just far too strange 🥺🙏🏾💜🖤
OmGOD I absolutely agree❤
Amen. Both had great voices
Paul was always my favorite Temptation... His voice was magic
Mine too
Mines as well
I don't think of Paul as overlooked. That's so sad. To me, he stood out. Especially when he danced.
He was a smooth ...
Let's put it like this berry pushed Paul Williams to the side and background because his voice was to powerful and soulful. The same he did to Florence Ballard.
I Love Paul and Eddie friendship, they definitely was loyal to each other. I want a love I can see, Paul voice goodness, I Love it!!! Paul death is definitely a mystery, I don’t know what to think. May they all be Resting In Peace!!!
I loved them
Paul gave them the swag they needed, his voice was my favorite. So soulful you could feel the emotion in it.
One dirty little secret..Paul Williams...the only Tempt that David Ruffin was intimidated by/ jealous of.
Paul was a true showman. Otis admitted during concerts when Paul performed he would get the most thunderous applause.
:)
@@brandyeduncan7285❤
Thats a big fat lie. Its definitely the other way round. Paul faded as the David emerged. Well David left but he didn't shine either.
@@georgettejonah2580 It's the truth IDK where you got your information from
@GarwinWayne but you cared that much to reply. RIP bro
When I heard paul sing FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I cried like a little boy the way he sang it brought me to my knees. A professional drummer fresh from Vietnam I had the honor of backing the temptations at the Cincinnati jazz festival in 73.why Mel Brown had to leave escapes me now Eddie and Paul were gone by then. Richard Street replaced.paul and a young man named Damon replaced Eddie. The only one I got to talk to was Dennis Edward's he told me they were leaving for Europe in 2 weeks and couldn't wait to get home. God bless the souls of these beautiful men and gifts of timeless music they left us. It's a lesser world with out them
I agree, he didn't receive the credit he deserved, he was my favorite among the group.
Thank you for samples of less familiar songs. Paul Williams was a very talented vocalist, dancer and choreographer. May he Rest In Peace.
PAUL WAS THE VOICE!
I love the Temptations I always felt he was killed. 😔 😥
I’m with you
Death by his own hands
Me to someone know something
I don't believe that Paul committed suicide there had to be way more than what the media put out by then!!! RIP The Great Mr Paul Williams!!!
I’m with you, there was more… how does one use their right hand to shoot themself on the left side? They don’t! For that reason alone the case should be reopened in my opinion…
RIP PAUL WILLIAMS
Paul was deeply troubled and depressed. His sickness with sickle cell disease was getting worse and he was abusing alcohol to cope with his pain. We hate to accept suicide but that is what happened
@rucianapollard4057 we all have a right to our opinions I'm not saying you're wrong because we wasn't there to know the truth but in my opinion it just doesn't add up!!!
I was thinking the same thing. I suspect the label had him erased for insurance claims or something of that nature.
@@benyaminyisrael4634 Big Factz
The first song I remember hearing from the Temptations was "I want a love I can see", the opening with the brushes on the drum, and Paul's big ol' voice,. One of my favorites as it the album "Meet the Temptations". Slow down heart, May I have this dance (where we first got a dose of Eddies' falsetto) "Check yourself"
etc.He wasn't overlooked in my opinion, he could straight out sing...
I think what’s meant by overlooked was that the songs on which he sang lead weren’t promoted like Eddie and David’s.
"The circumstances surrounding Williams's death caused the Williams family to suspect that some form of foul play was the actual cause of Williams's death. According to the coroner, Williams had used his right hand to shoot himself on the left side of his head. In addition, a bottle of alcohol was found near Williams's left side, as if he had dropped it while being shot. The gun used in the shooting was found to have fired two shots, only one of which had killed Williams." Wikipedia
Doesn't say if alcohol was found in his system and no mention of what hand gun residue was found. How in the world do you shot the left side of your head with your right hand? And what happened to the rest of his clothing? He was found in his underwear. SMH. RIP Paul Williams.
💔💔
You know the truth and what about big Otis Redding amen
2 shots only 1 killed him and was shot ln the right side but was left handed
Paul Williams had an unbelievable voice. If you go back and listen to their biggest hits, his voice is synonymous with the Temptations sound.
Paul Williams is unsung. He had a beautiful voice. WBPTV the best storyteller! Keep up the great work. 👍
Amen to every word you said!!
He needs an Unsung.
Thank you for taking time to make this video about our beloved Paul. He was truly a brilliant human being. Much more than just the choreographer and master baritone. What he did for The Tempts in their formative years as well as after he retired was paramount to their success. There's so much out there that isn't said about him. That's why I have my accounts on here and Instagram, is to shine that light and educate people on the real Paul Williams. So anytime I see others give him his dues, I appreciate it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing him love and respect.
Whatever happened to Paul's wife? Where are all of his children???
Don't Look Back is a classic. Paul also shined on the B-side How Can I Forget, and his live versions of For Once In My Life. Hey Girl and No More Water in the Well are also standouts. Paul does some fantastic duets with Diana Ross on the Temptations/Supremes albums. Great details in this video as always! I was not aware of his business interests, his mistress, or his later solo records. A very sad tragedy. And now you bring up the details of his death, there are questions for sure. Thank you again for another great video!
I think his death was very suspicious....... Thank you for playing them singles it's really makes me appreciate Paul 's voice even more
Williams and Kendrick’s were my favorite. Otis always acted like he was head of the group, but never looked into his death. Now that I know more on his death, I no longer believe it was suicide. Thank you for sharing.
Otis was the head of the group, that's while there was a group.
@@deborahwalker8880 seriously your whole comment made no sense
@@aintnothingliketheoldskool Otis was THE founding member of the group. (Since you choose not to understand lol) without HIM, there would not have been a group. It’s true, no one disputes it. It wasn’t an act. He’s just never been a lead singer
Without Paul Motown would have NEVER sign them to a contract. Otis was nobody but a back up singer.
Janae Catts: I am definitely disputing what you say. Otis was not the only founding member. He was NOT the reason there was a Temptations. There were FIVE founding members of The Temptations- Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, Al Bryant and Otis Williams. They were the merging of two groups- The Primes and The Distants. It's disrespectful to their legacy to not give them dues as co-founders.
First off, I love your guidelines before anyone comments!!! Secondly, thanks for the Paul Williams tribute. He was DEFINITELY that guy!!!! ❤
Pal Williams: as a little boy I lost my mother and one of the things that got me by,listening to my favorite group of all times.
I remember all of the songs and especially MR PAL WILLIAMS. Sleep on my brother we will hear you again!!!
Paul was overlooked
I was no where near thought of around this time! But when I watched the temptations movie, Paul instantly became my favorite! From there I took a interest
in learning the Temptation history.
Exactly ! Christian Payton did a fantastic job playing that role
Same here
First time on your channel. I guess it was recommended because of how much old school Temptations I listen to. Paul and Eddie were my homeboys. Broke my heart when Paul died. He was very underrated as a singer. No way he killed himself! Didn’t believe it then, don’t believe it now. Thank you for highlighting him. Good job!
He definitely deserves more credit, thank you! It's sadden me about his health conditions. Still a great singer ❤
I’m glad this was shared. If we go based on the movie they make it sound like he was just a drunk.
Both Paul Williams and Florence Ballard whom both were Cancers had the same fate at Motown from their leadership of their groups origins, their underrated status during their career at Motown to drinking excessive being their downfall. They were also the first Motown stars to pass away young and within two years of each other.
My heart is still broken over Paul Williams sad death even after all these years. I remember shedding tears upon hearing of his death when I was just 13. I always thought he was the best singer and dancer. I was angry at him at the time and did not know all the details of his death. I remember getting a photographer Xmas and a lot of motown 46 records. I played and sang along with tunes especially the tests. Loved Paul singing..don't look back.
I was so pleased to read this article and others about his life and times. We never really know what life has instore for us so we must love live life to the fullest and take of our health.
Rest in power..paul

My favorite Paul led song is "I want a love I can see" RIP Paul Williams 🕊🩶🥀Temptations forever
I play Slow Down Heart all of the time. It’s said that David put the Tempts on the map, but Paul could have done just as well if given the opportunity. His vocals had so much feeling. I saw the Tempts but shortly after David, Paul and Eddie left. Fortunately I was able to see Eddie solo in 1975. He was great. He sang all of his hits plus the ones from his days with the Tempts. He did not disappoint.
I think we should make a movie about him because he was a very vital part of the temptation. I think it'll be a hit rest in heaven where God bless you❤
Hey good video. That’s so sad about Paul having that disease. Bless him he really was a Legend. You never know what someone is going through. I loved his voice it’s hard to pick a favorite with those guys! ✌️
With understanding what happens in the industry and realizing that era was still experiencing the same things. The only difference is technology. I believe they hurt that man. Someone knows something and they’ve gotten away with it for years. You can see it and feel it. It’s something more than just what we see. He knew something! Rest in Power! A True Legend!❤✨
Paul was murdered by someone, he didn't take his own life. I miss you Paul William.
Paul Williams , my favorite ❤️ Temptation I always believed he was the glue that held them together I understand who the voices were ,but Paul took a backseat to one he had vocals as well and the choreography a master of footwork routines continue to rest in music 🎶 Temptations my group forever ❤
The temptations is one of my favorite movies. I know the lines front to back and I had no idea he was so sick and not just a struggling alcoholic like they portrayed. Something is definitely fishy about his death now that I’ve watched your video. Great work!
I went to high school with Eddie Kendricks nephews. We all went to M.L. King in Detroit.
great singer paul be missed.
I was 5 when Mr. Williams either killed himself or was killed. I’ll admit some findings are a little odd.
It’s interesting he was a left hander, as it seems many artistic & creative individuals are. It’s illogical a left hander uses his right hand to fire at his left temple, and why would anyone strip down to his underwear to end his life in his car?
Why did no further investigation of this underrated performer take place? May he be at peace.
What undoubtedly led to Paul's alcoholism was the fact that his two major talents--singing and choreography--were completely tossed aside after Artist Development was created at Motown, and David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks (and later Dennis Edwards) became the primary lead singers of The Temptations during Paul's seven remaining years in the group from 1964-1971. Just like the average Joe out there: when one's gifts and talents are entirely ignored, the individual feels rejected and disregarded despite them being part of a group--more by name and roster attendance than by welcomed mutuality. It sometimes is bad enough to make a person of sorts want to kill themselves--which was Paul's ultimate tragic fate.
Death Sui ide. Not tru.
He didn’t off himself. You can’t hold a gun in your right hand and shoot yourself on the left side????
Paul is my favorite Temptation and love seeing stories about him.
Great singer 🥰 rip to him .Good video .
I love Paul his voice was so amazing Rest In Peace Paul 🙏🙏🙏
Definitely underrated!!!
Paul was definitely the best dancer, he had swag way before swag was a thang 😊
Facts
He taught them all the earliest dance moves, and they were smooth
RIP to all who have passed on and my condolences
I absolutely loved and love Paul. Thank you for this video.
My favorite Temptations member
These definitely should have charted better and be well known. Love it
It seems like the authorities chose not to investigate his death because it seems like he may have been murdered by his lovers husband or a even a jealous lover, who wants to be found dead in their underwear. Sad way to go & embarrassing for his family.
Was down with Paul as soon as I heard “ Don’t look back “
Maybe to a younger group of fans, but us old school fans , know how good he was, I daughter who's thirty something loves him, his lead song I want a love I can see is her favorite 🎵
I loved them all but my favorite was Eddie Kendrick.
Excellent tribute to Paul Williams...thank you. Well put together showing what he contributed to the Tempations. To live with Sickle Cell and Alcohol abuse in a time when there wasn't the support there is now along with the pressures of being in the public eye must have been very tough. Your details surrounding his death certainly give cause for suspicion.
Sickle cell and alcohol don't mix. I know from experience
Appreciate this great work
Much appreciated
Great video, thanks!
This have been long overdue thank you for the recognition you given to Mr Paul Williams
My family grew up listening to every single song of the Temptations. I still play David Ruffin last song before he passed, and their last album and song run away child and all time classic Silent Night.❤. I love when Dennis came in to replace David, but that was a time long ago. now their in haven ❤singing MY Girl 👧.
Dang those solos were great. It’s a sad shame that he wasn’t promoted. He could’ve had a successful solo career. I’m not a gun expert. I’m left handed and very rarely use my right hand to do much. I would find it hard to cock a gun to my left temple and shoot.
Paul had the talent to be a solo artist, but only ever wanted to be a Temp. It's a shame and tragedy how his story ended.
The late Paul Williams got some dance moves on him, he got the rest of the members of the temptations to dance as they sing, I'll give him that
Damn Paul okay I’m going have too download those songs I love his voice
He was my Fav! His dance moves in particular are what attracted me!
They should have looked at his mistresses husband
Paul had a mistress?
Sounds like the mistress husband could have caught them. And he could have been a man with a lot of power. Very sad way to go.
Loved this story about one of the original members of the Temptations, never believed the suicide story
Great video but I don’t think he was overlooked, you can’t be a Tempts fan without knowing who the soul of the temptations was. How they danced and dressed is what ultimately set them apart from a lot of people and that was Paul’s contribution and for you to be able to add anything to such a powerful unit says a lot. This is a group where literally EVERYONE contributed to their appeal
Rip in peace paul Williams 😭 could really song and dance 🩰 Love The temptation songs
I definitely think Otis is the most overlooked. Paul is the most intriguing in my opinion. Not as much info on him as the others. Mainly because he passed so early.
I love Paul's friendship with Eddie Kendricks. Eddie would have put his life on the line for him but him not voting with Eddie for David to stay makes me doubt his motives. He thought he was gonna take the lead again once David leaves. But Otis had other ideas. Eddie's loyalty, love and bond was enduring and admirable.
I DISAGREE, PAUL IS TRULY LOVED.PAUL WAS MY FIRST LOVE OF THE TEMPTATION.PAUL WAS THE VOICE OF THE TEMPTATION. PAUL DOES'NT NEED ANY PITY, BECAUSE HE WAS ONE OF THE GREAT'S OF THE TEMPTING TEMPTATIONS. REST IN SOUL HEAVEN MR. WILLIAMS❤
Mr Paul Williams was a great singer, someone saw something, they need to open this case, just like San Cook both are the excellence of talent, RIP
"Don't Look Back" was released as the "B" side of David's lead, "My Baby", but Paul's song became more popular. A few of The Temps B sides would be as popular or more popular than the A side at least in Detroit. Also "Just Another Lonely Night" was given a test release in Detroit but did not get a good reaction, so "Get Ready" got the nod.
Thank you for doing a live voiceover and not having AI write your video. This is so much better than all that nonsense. And...
Temptations Forever.
l love for once in my life and many more of Paul's songs. I never believed that Paul took his life. The Temptations live performances were always outstanding. My older sister took me to see them perform I was 12 years old, the show was in Newark, NJ back when you would see The Motown Review. May David, Eddie, Paul, Otis and Dennis & Ali RIP. I saw Otis do his very last performance at Westbury Music Hall OMG he was so sick but the show must go on. I love all Temptations and my grandkids the music is timeless.
I love all of the temptations equally I don't say who was better or the best because they were all the best in their own way. Eddie Paul David Melvin Otis they each brought something and had something for the group. 💎💎💎 Everyone wants to make it a competition when it comes to their favorite temptation. and I feel like they did try to hold Paul back he was a good singer a good dancer and he helped a lot of motown artist motown or berry never gave Paul any credit. Paul's death is strange till this day the way it happened and him being in swim trunks doesn't add up.
Paul Williams!
One of Birmingham, AL's Finest!
Westside, Ensley!
I LIVE AROUND THE CORNER FROM MOTOWN AND WE STILL LOVE OUR ARTIST TILL THIS VERY DAY AND PEOPLE COME FROM ALL AROUND WORLD TO VISIT HITSVILLE
Paul was so talented sad this is how it ended but the temptations movie gave us the he main part of the story. Love how in depth this went.
I love this video. R.I.P. Paul Williams!!!!
