I like how every time Paul and Eddie look at each other they smile at each other true friends from the beginning✊🏾
From their days as the PRIMES.....
@@themajicman745 yessir they weren’t always friends tho
@@themajicman745 They were friends since elementary school, not just their Primes days
It seems like Paul really loved performing... he and Eddie did a wonderful job here... thank you Ms. Uggams...
Yes he DID
Paul Williams is my favorite Temp! The man's voice was incredible, soulful and man could he dance!!!
Paul, My Favorite..Paul, My Teenaged Idol love him to this DAY
*Dennis Edwards is my favorite🥰*
Imagine being lucky enough to have seen the Temptations in the 60s/early 70s.
Also I just love Paul and Eddie's friendship. They are too adorable w/ Ms. Leslie at 1:25 - 1:40.
Leslie is fun loving, and she is a pure beauty.
Do your thing Paul Williams was killing it especially Eddie and the rest of the temptations sing Paul
Eddie was terrific as always. Paul gave a great performance even as he struggled through illness. The other three Temptations provided terrific backup, and Leslie Uggams was wonderful.
Leslie Uggams was one of the most beautiful black women of her time , wow........ thank you . You were incredibly talented as well .
Paul as usual, adding that distinctive voice of his. Soulful and smooth. No other way to describe the unmistakable sound of The Classic Five sans Ruffin. I believe that he was indeed the heart and soul of THE Temptations. Otis just managed to outlive them all.
I can't put it into words how i feel about the greatest group that ever lived, sung, and perform!!! Amen
Lol! I think Otis more than MANAGED to outlive them.... seems to be the only one WITHOUT a vice.....
how did we survive before youtube? The opportunity to see and hear so many fantastic performances was denied us
Paul Williams did not let his illness stop him from doing what he needed to be doing no matter what you will always be a temptation Paul Williams Sr was the rock
Paul is great but they all are fantastic
Glorious performance, though my head was breaking for Paul.
Ms Uggams holding it down between two handsome superstars, few could equal that!
I loved watching her during the 1970s. Too bad I was only 2 years old when she and the Temptations performed this nice number.
@MsLady328

As she said "Aren't they Beautiful?"
Thank You Gerald for stating the fact about Paul Williams sickle cell. I always believed in my heart something else was wrong. I met Paul several times and in 1970 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. And Paul was sick he almost fell on stage. After the show my friends and I went around the back. They brought Paul out so fast. I was standing so close to him I could have step on his foot. I did not smell any alcohol on him. America needs to hear the truth.
you're welcome...he definitely deserves to be respected.
It’s Otis’s fault. He allowed everyone to think that about him.
I mean it's a known fact he was drinking but he was drinking because of his sickle cell disease
Amen,,, i don't beli3ve to THIS DAY..IT WAS SELF INFLICKED
Cold Case File was much need for Paul...God WILL REVEAL THE STORY..RIP DEAR Paul..My Paul. MY TEEN IDOL..
Paul Williams had sickle cell anemia. The man had to travel on planes with oxygen tanks due to the altitudes. It's very dismissive to always assume he was drunk because of his appearance....RIP Mr Williams & great post
+Gerald Jackson
thank you Mr Jackson for saying that. Paul Loved what he did i often wonder if people knew just how hard he pushed himself....sometimes you could see the pain expressions in moving or he was breathing harder than the guys.......Paul Williams was a true showman indeed....*e
+Penny Candi Yes indeed Ms Candi. His struggle was real. He was the heart & soul of the Temptations. He genuinely loved those guys and making great music!
+africansnowqueen
oh i know all too well.. our girl is 34 and struggles more than she says...when i watch Paul i can tell when he has rested and when he's in pain....and when his breathing is bad...my biggest joy is that Paul lived his dream and many dont get that....*e
You are so right!! I worked in a hospital in the 70's and early 80's and I saw young men barely getting in their 20's and going thru sickle cell. I lost 2 friend to this back in the 80's. One was in hospital so long, he had to go thru rehab to learn to walk and feed himself!! I couldn't see him that way. That sickle cell was nothing to play with. Paul was bless to live as long as he did, most didn't make it to 25. No one will ever know what that poor man was going thru. trying to deal with that sickness. Some people just deal with the hand they are dealt, but it doesn't mean he was drunk!! That movie made Paul look awful when he probably was sick and afraid of losing the group and his life!! God Bless us all for good health and strength and enjoy that fact that we can watch these guys again!! Paul's pain is over let him Rest in Peace!!
Thank you for saying that....I wish folks were more thoughtful....words still hurt
The general public needs to be made aware that Paul WILLIAMS was dealing with the horrific full blown disease of Sickle Cell Anemia. Just his dancing moderate steps on that stage was enough to make his veins in his legs explode. Your blood cells if sickle shape continuously block oxygen flow to every organ in your body. For Paul WILLIAMS to perform the high impact choreography that he created for so many years is a testament to his character and his perseverance. Paul WILLIAMS was a true Musical Miraculous Athlete. He was outstanding in this performance even with the heavy beads of perspiration on his brow he did what he was tasked to achieve. Too little known about Sickle Cell Crisis then and Too little known about Sickle Cell Crisis today-40 years later. Paul and Eddie Kendricks- True Temptation Heroes. With Keeping it real- The group’s name should have been David Ruffin and The Temptations.❤️”AINT NOBODY COMING TO HEAR YOU SING OTIS!” True fact. Their era of CHOSEN MAGNIFICENT GREATNESS- FOREVER⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
indeed
Leslie Uggams was gorgeous!
She said aren't they beautiful...THEY sure are...Thanks for sharing this video.
Leslie getting her boogie on wit my favorite Paul Williams
You just don't see entertainment like this no more very classy and Paul was a " BEAST "
Now is what makes CZcams worthwhile! Thank you so much for this great clip.
DetroitLives313 You're very welcome. :-)

Leslie was right on the first part, (Aren't they Beautiful)!
Paul Williams the best
Greats of his time
Leslie looking good!
Tony T No, Leslie looking great! 😛
Damn good!
I was fortunate enough to had known Melvin Franklin and one thing was certain and can be seen in all of their footage is this Brotha loved his job!
WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!
MISS UGG,AMS MADE SURE THE PRODUCTION OF THIS SHOW WAS DIVERSE...I APPLAUD HER FOR THAT.
Goddamn. That's so awesome.
In my 1970s voice - Lesile Uggams was a stone cold fox!
They are beautiful!!!
DiscoNights1987- Thank you for this clip of the greatest R&B group of all time-The Temptin Temptations! Please give us more!
Just Beautiful anything to do with The Temptations. These Guys were Awesome. Love The Temptations.
Ms. Uggams is still doin' it! Recurring role on "Empire" and one of the blockbuster cinema hits, "Deadpool"
that's a good look, shout out to Lee for keeping the vets around.
Omg that old blind lady was her? Hell ya! I love her more now!
YES!!!!!! THANK GOD FOR CZcams AND SUCH CLIPS!!!! Thank you DiscoNights1987 also for posting such treasures of American music!!!!!
I've fallen down a CZcams well that led me here. I needed this after George Michael's passing. Merry Christmas 2016. One leg up, Leslie!
I can’t hold my tears 😭 Everyone will grow old and die in the end.
Luscious Lyon's mama..kids, this is her when she was younger. She was still performing and had a television show back in the day.
Was still performing? She never stopped. She still performs today.
And She was Kizzy on Roots!
TEMPTATIONS FOREVER!!!!!
Ms Uggams is a Goddess then and now
Poor Paul I hate seeing him like that. It's sad he had to go through this.😭
Yesss ms. Leslie!! 😍😍
The best to ever do it legendary
Eddie's voice!
some of the kindest...strongest... most determined people are ones who suffer a lot. i know three people...one is my daughter you would be amazed how they struggle to keep their life "normal" The lifespan is longer but so is pain and ridicule....
only propagandists' and gossips' thought that Paul was a drunkard, people who cared, even a little bit learned very quickly that he had a illness, yet he performed greatly like the person he always was.
Hi edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you have fun with your friends and family they sang fun songs God bless them Linda j peace ❤️💯💯💯 love than all 🐻🐻🐻🐻☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️
Talented Temptations
Nice thanks once again !!! ;)
wow am love this
Leslie Uggams is now playing on the show "Empire" as Lucious Lyon's mother.
Regarding Paul Williams's health issues, I wili say that my closest friend has also lived with sickle cell anemia all his life. There was a time when someone with the disease was only expected to live to approximately 30 years old. God had blessed my friend, who had been involved in martial arts, and other activities throughout the years. There were several times when he experienced sickle cell "crises". What this means is that the cells began to clog the blood vessels, the causing extreme pain to the organs, and joints. Many times a blood transfusion would be necessary. Now, I understand the saga of the Temptations is intriguing, and ofttimes exaggerated for literary, and entertainment purposes, but why is the story of Paul Williams merely dismissed as the downfall of alcoholism. I've said before, speaking as an athlete, that Paul would not suddenly begin to get out of shape, gasping for air etc., from mere alcohol. True, it did not help his precision, and stage performance, but someone's who's been dancing constantly for a decade doesn't lose physical endurance from drinking, unless something else is going on. Paul refused to see a doctor, which prolonged the physical problem till it caused him to leave immediately on doctor's orders. In the Tempts bio "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" by Mark Ribowsky, Paul complained that his feet hurt. He began to really be affected by the disease in the late 60s. In some ways he self medicated to deal with physical, and emotional problems. No excuses being made of course. In closing, one final thought to any Temptations novices, and casual listeners; Though thoroughly enjoyable, "Don't believe everything you see in the Temptations movie. Even Otis didn't have that much creative input with the script writers. Particularly, in the case of Paul Williams, I've had people ask me "He didn't really kill himself did he?" The movie depicts him driving to an empty lot, and showing a flash, followed by a gunshot. Case closed. They would have been better portraying the aftermath of the incident, because Paul's death was an alleged suicide, but has been shrouded in mystery. Expressing suicidal thoughts, though serious, weeks, or even months before his death does not mean that he followed through with it. However, that's a whole other conversation in itself.
renaissanceman165 wow, where did you get this information?
Thanks for the info
renaissanceman165 Very excellent statement about Paul Williams. I wish Paul went to the Doctor to seek help. Maybe he would still.be alive..He had an amazing voice as well as the other Temptations.
Damn she was a foxy mama in her younger days.. Poor paul. People make hime seem like he was a pure drunk. Blame that movie.
@Dante Carroll true
he had sickle cell
dam that movie, thats why I didn't watch it 😕 it was Garbage I want to remember
them the way I want too
@@lindahines9380 that's why I wish the person that did the Ray Charles movie or Spike Lee get the rights to do the movie for them because they will tell the truth.
@@mistrterrancebutler Really? are they still
alive?
Leslie was on for only thee months in the fall of 1969.
I love seeing how INTO it Melvin was back then. Like Paul...Melvin's heath would rob him of his coordination and natural flow within the Temptations dancing numbers during his later years.
Love you Paul you was the shirt ,you was a triple threat and also sexy
SWEET!
Eddie Kendricks, best soul singer to ever walk the planet, especially, from 73 to 78, the guys he had arranging, writing and producing the albums between those years were the best I've EVER heard, so it wasn't all Kendricks, all albums have a feel to them, for instance, Dylan, the Beatles & the Stones first albums, sounded nothing like their late 60s albums, the production, changing times ect, well Kendricks struck gold with his 5 mid 70s albums, already having one of the greatest, if not thee greatest, voice on the planet, his male backing singers, the harmonising, the arrangement, musicians, oh man, I thought M Gaye was bangin, untill I heard those albums.
Paul Williams version is so unique, this version gave me goosebumps❤❤❤ and I can feel Mr Eddie Kendricks energy through the screen and I know Keslie Uggams could too. One more thing, Mr Eddie Kendricks soul is so beautiful and pure.
Paul was sweating badly! The Temptations can make any song sound great!
Paul didn't like to wear stage makeup.
Paul was in pain
But Paul LOVED being a Temptation. :-)
@Linda Hines He was very sick with Sickle Cell.
Paul had sickle cell.
Pay attention to some videos Otis couldn't keep in step.I believe it was hating going on wit my three Paul Eddie@David. Classy (3). Good looks love them three always and forever
Paul Williams was the heart and soul of the temptations had looks moves and the voice.he was so sexy without Paul @ Eddie ...they made the group got them in to see Berry history made. Every body know Paul was the sshhitt. Yes he really was sick.I will always love Paul the real deal. David Eddie Paul the master mind of the temptations rest on my dear brothers gone all to soon. Otis keep dreaming there will never be a group of fine looking men like Paul Eddie @ David.💯💯💯💯
Overseer Betty 💙💛💙💛💙💛💙
I like how Paul at times sound like David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards.
I think LU was more famous as an actress.I didn't know she sang.
Always thought the cover of this song by The Temptations and Diana Ross & The Supremes was better than Aretha's and could have been a big hit and it deserves a second listen. Though this is a little faster pace, Lesiie and the Tempts do a great job here as well! Thanks for posting!
Aretha’s version is the most popular next to the original
If CBS had any faith in Leslie, they wouldn't have put her on Sundays at 9 PM against Bonanza, which had already clobbered Judy Garland, Garry Moore, Steve Lawrence and some game shows.
First time seeing this ❤️💚🖤☮️✊🏾back stairs to the White House leslie ugums
I didn’t know that 😮
Temptations: Hot buttered soul.
Watch Melvin at the start, comically mouthing the words to Leslie's introduction of the guys!
Otis was rockin that Fredrick Douglas
You could tell something was wrong with Paul that it looks like Eddie was focusing on him.
breanna S he was in the last stage of sickle cell
20 years later....the same would be said of Melvin Franklin.
@@gucciysl “last stage”? Its not cancer
@@jeanandre6998 i meant is it became critical that he has to quit
Yes he's sweating so bad on here! He still threw down though.
Sadly, this was the final episode of this short lived program...CBS cancelled it only days after this airing; largely because it lost in the ratings to NBC’S “Bonanza”.....ironically, “The Leslie Uggams Show” had itself replaced the wildly popular, “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”; which CBS kicked off the air the previous spring...
She was funny in the movie deadpool
I would have never guessed she would play a blind woman in Deadpool in 2015
Shut out to Leslie uglum's & Lola falana As a preteen I had a crush on both ladies I guess they were like female versions of Sammy Davis junior
What song did they just finish singing before this interview starts?
Otis Williams recently made a video saying Happy Birthday to Diana Ross. And he drew a painting of her
It would have been better if the man in audio had a better handle on the strength of each's voices. Eddie's and Paul's voices weren't as strong as Leslie's and so their mics should have been raised a bit, not only to be in Leslie's level but so that they could actually be heard above the music. .
Poor paul sweatin bullets man
Paul's rhythm is slightly off ,cause that dude could dance, and created most of their steps ,yet listen to Eddie's tenor!! That Brother could sing anything, I heard him in person, the way he could slide from note to note was unique ! If you never been to the Apollo back in the days you missed something, it was a very personal place, you were right up on the performers for 5$ ,you believe that !!
“Kizzy” never looked better. That dress, well I guess it was the style then.
Well, she certainly "rocks" it, as they say !!!
Showing off her gorgeous long legs, pretty in pink.
Baby if I had been in Paul eye site I would have been his side piece his side kick I would have been his legs his pain I would have been all of that just to look at him girl I'm keeping it💯💯💯💯💯💯
What a man so sexy (Paul Williams)
I read and/or heard Ali dropped LU as he felt she wasn't committed enough to blks. I'm not sure if it was in the book The Greatest(autobiography?).
Otis could use a hair cut, just saying
I know he needed to pick that afro because it was flat on one side. Lol
Well as David Ruffen stated " Ain't nobody coming to see you Otis".
+kgalford..................Stated my ass, David never said those words, they were added to the movie script........for drama......One fool makes many
Hahahaha
Right!
Its Blind lady Al from Deadpool
Though Leslie made a noble attempt on this performance NO ONE did this song better than Diana Ross & The Supremes with the Temptations! (Which is some feat, considering the fact that it was previously done by both The Band and Aretha Franklin)! This was probably an attempt to promote the single but DR & S were probably not available as Diana and Berry were too busy concentrating on Diana's exit from The Supremes! And, for the record, I took the sweat on Paul's face as an expression of how much soul The Tempts put into their performance, but, Gerald Jackson (of the group "Touch of Class' who was also famous for writing Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn The Beat Around") is probably right. Paul, like Eddie would later do, put pleasing the audience first before his own health - even if it meant traveling with oxygen tanks, for, as they say, "The Show Must Go On!"
For all of you speaking on Miss Uggams you should read Ali's book , hi 1st auto and see what she thinks of you as a people, its in "The Greatest,My Own Story,"by Muhammad Ali,it may surprise you.
Or For those of us who have watched Leslie Uggams for ourselves, perhaps we are smart enough to make up our own minds. Real question: What do your favorite stars think of you?
Micro-mini dress!
look like a night gown it was cute on her
though
It’s Blind Al
Paul was the back bone of the temptations. People forget he was the lead on many of their first hits. He was in pain, suffering from depression. In the 70's they didn't know squat about depression as they do today. He must of had bum Dr's. Because he committed suicide. I remember throwing up when I heard about what happened. God bless you Paul, the world is a lesser place with out you.
1:55 Paul is sweating very hard, with his condition I know that concerned the tempts highly!!😮
Now Ms Uggams is in Marvel movies. She played Deadpool's blind roommate
2:16 E 2:39
Wow, she surprisingly sounds like a young Aretha on this performance.
Great performance although slightly too up tempo and happy for a blues number ...
She looks so short next to the 6’ft + men.
:(
I thought kissy was sold away for writing a fake pass
Without David Ruffin, they just don’t sound the same. Eddie Kendrick is so handsome. It’s also sad how they did Paul. 😔2019
@Linda Hines Sicke cell is a painful disease. Many to some of the red blood cells are formed in jagged sickle type shapes and when they press or stab up against the arteries. It can put you in an extremely painful "crisis". It is a very serious condition.
@Linda Hines Yes, I am in the state of NY this is my 13th year. I have interacted with several sickle cell patients/resident. Some are prescribed very strong pain medications which can lead to addiction.
@Linda Hines Also there is a live video of Smooth Eddie Kendrick "Aint no smoke without fire". Look like a disco venue. Eddie probably lip synching but he smooth and the dancers are doing it.
@Linda Hines He was very sick.
@MsLady328 His feet were swollen. You can tell the way he walk.
