The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

#DianaRoss #TheSupremes #EdSullivanShow - Hudba
This song hit Number 1 on December 27, 1969 making it literally the last Number 1 pop hit of the 60s. Beautiful way to end that decade from a musical point of view.
I think of that often.... I would like to think it was destiny that made it #1, but I'm pretty sure Berry Gordy bought this last #1 hit of the 1960s.
A fitting anthem for the 60s, after the divisive turmoil of ‘68
And Berry Gordy intially wanted this song to be Diana's first single as solo artist, but he thought better and ended Diana's period in the group the best way.
@@Danlovar agreed ... funny how Berry had to PAY passers by to go to a Diana Ross concert in the first year (1970) or so.. Berry & Motown has it archived and acted out in "Motown the Musical" which I saw December 2013
One could not agree more with the dear Craig-of-Harrell.
No record company will ever top Motown.
Motown 1967/69 are my favourite years... so many classic tracks
Are so right nothing will ever top the sweet sounds of young America motown with the best through the sixties
The days when you didn't have to show azz to sell records
True 💯
True. Motown, Atlantic and Arista are my faves!
My Mother saw them in Concert when she was pregnant for me in 1968. Im 52 now and I continue to listen them for my Mother in Heaven.
Techically you were at the show too.
@@luketimber4679 You're right
Aaaaww ♥️♥️
@@giannimolluso5846 😄
My Mom saw them in 1969, she was pregnant with me. My first concert.
People who didn't live then can't realize the impact of the Ed Sullivan show. There is nothing comparable today.
I have not lived that special moment , anyway I can imagine what it meant: The End Of an Era as someone else here has written, and
I agree with you that there´s nothing comparable in today´s music.
I'm 62 and remember Ed Sullivan, never missed a show i don't think. The days are gone forever but we do have youtube, one great invention.
shit I get goosebumps from these songs
You are absolutely correct about the impact of the Ed Sullivan Show. One of the Supremes earlier hits had been to No. 1 in the charts and had dropped a place or two but after an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show went back to No. 1. The increased sales were at the time attributed to their appearance on the show. Sorry I can’t remember the song.
@@moretimeneeded56 The song was Come see about me.
My sister knew Diana in the 70's.
Motown had the biggest hits of that era.
The three are dressed so beautifully.
Fairwell to innocence.
Diana Ross, like Marilyn Monroe, has the radiance of a true star; it's impossible to take your eyes off of her.
Oh, I'll excuse the typo..........I'm sure that you MEANT to say: "THE SUPREMES, like Marilyn Monroe, have the radiance of true stars; it's impossible to take your eyes off of THEM".
@@kurtsupreme Lady Di
@@stevenwilliambaylessparks3730 I know who she is..............she was once ONE of the world famous SUPEMES! She is still going around from town to town singing THEIR songs doing her oldies shows. THE SUPREMES were great...............never thought much of Diane as a solo act, though. It just wasn't ever the same.............THE SUPREMES were just a better act.
@@canyonvibe7589 Yes, and I was crystal clear in MY remarks.. try and understand that.
@@stevenwilliambaylessparks3730 In addition to your other misconceptions, you are getting your "Di's" confused. "Lady Di" became the "Princess of Wales" and was killed in a car accident.
Every time I hear this song, I think about my daddy.
I don’t know where’s buried but one day we’ll be together!
I think about my wife .
There were a whole lot of broken heart's watching this one.
Really doesnt ever get much better than this. Supremes and Motown's greatest song ever. Period
I love the intro by Ed Sullivan for people who lived through this this was the end of an era This is December 1969
Yes nice intro by Ed, he seemed to like these girls... yah, it must have been quite an event to watch! Wish I could of been there to see... did you watch all of the supremes appearances on Ed Sullivan back in the day?
@@mattc2094 IT WAS SAD TO WATCH.
Yes.
He and Berry Gordy were great friends,
and he was always happy to help
Berry promote the artists with their new songs.
I'm glad I was around and experienced what it was like to have the whole family in front of the TV watching shows like this, Flip Wilson, Sony & Cher, along with shows like the Grammy and American Music Awards and Motown 25.
No VCRs back then. Cable TV was just starting so we only CBS and NBC at first, then ABC a couple years later.
@@earlgray7003 wow that’s interesting... what year did colour tv start?
The radio version of this song, in my opinion is one of the greatest ever, damn near perfection. Can't get closer
Grace, Beauty and nothing but Class ..... Stunning even still today 2024!!!!!!
Happy 78th birthday to Diana Ross.
Rest In Peace Mary Wilson 1944-2021 and Flo Ballard 1943-1976
Mary Wilson was my favorite Supreme.
My Mother Loved that Song, I Miss You Mama! RIP Much ❤️
Watching these old videos that Mary Wilson was a beauty. All the ladies are beautiful but she just glows.
Hi 👋
Diana Ross and the supremes are legends of Motown music 🎶
They were all childhood friends growing up in Detroit Michigan💕🎶
We need to leR n abuot rhe song riters.
So sad to find this lovely song on the day Mary Wilson died. RIP Mary.
It was such a sad shock... I was on Mary Wilson’s website 4 days prior, and the contact us page said write in for a free 6x8 autographed photo... I thought to myself, that’s generous I should write in, and then a few days later, such sad news.. we’ll miss you Mary you were beautiful
Yes, it takes on a more poignant meaning. 💔🙏🏾😔
@@nickdillon1096 indeed... life’s precious, we never know what will happen tomorrow... so thankful for Mary and the supremes
These vintage dresses are a 100 of a 10!
when this hit song came out I was just three years old
Diana Ross looked so beautiful there omg
Diana Ross had that soul, when she said I LONG FOR YOU, EVERY NIGHT, JUST TO KISS YOUR SWEET LIPS, thats it in a nut shell
Motown music 🎵🎶👌👍😀 there's nothing like Motown Music !!!!!!!!
Hi 👋
The Last number one song of the Sixties. Great way to end a wonderful decade of music.
I miss the 60s
Diana … the ultimate woman.
✊🏿LEGENDARY💪🏿👊🏿
I watched this on the Ed Sullivan show ❤ what a gift to see❤️Such a beautiful woman!
Still one of the greatest sounds any act has ever produced. I could never tire of listening to them!
God bless everyone and have a good day,,.
Diana Ross, what a talent.
She was so fine at this point I don't know if it was just me . Yeah she was so fine with the brown eyes and that voice
I love Cindy Birdsong, she was always there when called upon.........consummate professional.
Diana Ross has a voice that's difficult to describe. It's as if it's from another world.. Beautiful..
Agreed I hate when people call it soft cause it’s actually very hard to describe but I know it doesn’t sound soft.
Hi Grace, Many thanks for your thoughtful note. Very well said. Diana indeed has a unique voice. All best wishes.
A lyrical soprano. Just beautiful.
@@MA-yh2ko Thank you for your thoughtful note.
@Beau Dare ABSOLUTELY. Ms Ross is the soundtrack to my entire life.
Possibly one of The Supremes best songs in my opinion
, memories of a lost love in 1969.
Cindy and Mary did not sing on the single.
Its not a supreme song
Oh dear my deepest and most sincere apologies for making such a tragic statement saying it was the Supremes.
I'm torn on it possibly being one of if not the best song ever period, omg I get goosebumps during this song and I love it 😊
I love me some...................... Supremes. Yes.......
Theses voices can't be beaten so unic the three sang perfect,i was sad when they broke up.
A lot of stars got recognized after being on the ED Sullivan. Ed did a lot for the music of the 70's. I am so glad I lived in that time. But let's not forget the 60's. I'm 73 now and I really miss those days. It was a great time to live.
Those glorious gowns! Always flawless.

An era when music and entertainers were a class act.
70s A classic era for music
Well, this was the 60's but I hear ya man! (The broadcast date for this show was Dec 21st 1969, Diana had already announced her solo career -- Wikipedia)
I REMEMBER WHEN THIS FIRST AIRED, I FELT A SADNESS WHEN ED INTRODUCED THEM.
Yes, dear MICHGO1 ... to say goodbye to the original formation of this group is something ... that signals the end of an era and leaves a hole in one's soul that other artists just cannot fill, no matter how they might be headlining the charts.
@@ty7504 Yup, there's no other Supremes ; ) What a wonderful time then for music !!
A dear friend of 25 years passed away today. This song reminds me that we will meet again. Rest in peace Kelly lomzenski November 1, 1971 to September 1, 2022
Why does this masterpiece only have barely 2 million views?!!!!
Unfortunately, some people don't appreciate real music from the past.
One of the absolutely most beautiful vocal blends in the industry. One-of-a-kind.
That is true for Diana hit the nail on the head with her melodic voice, and ironically none of the Supremes were on this recorded hit.
Yes but this live performance is even better than the recording. You can hear both Mary and Cindy here. And that harmony is untouched
@@davonchesmith9688 Really! You are saying what you now know; however, NO ONE knew back then that Mary, nor Cindy were not on 'Someday We'll Be Together", as with the other hits, and even the ones with Flo not on them. Mary and Cindy sound good, but I would not say better than those Water sisters on the original. They along with Diana made it a hit. The Waters Family is legendary.
@@davonchesmith9688 its not live. many times they lip synched. the su;llivan show taped and retaped perfermances until it was perrect, the live audience saw it but tv saw the prerecorded version, you can see dian'as microphone change styles midnoyte durng their medly sectionb
Diana was sublime!
God rest Mary Wilson. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
I am from Young Sheldon S2 E22. This song at the end of the episode really touched me. I'm a lonely young man, this song tells me, don't worry, the world is so big, people who love you will always come to you.
You’re not alone 🖤
To all those people who have suffered loss or great heartache.
It’s true we all gathered around the TV to watch The Beatles on Ed Sullivan but we sure as hell did it for these ladies too. They were a Supergroup before there was a name for that. ❤️
Say more, dear Bonnie-of-Chandler ... say more. ...
Although I always thought Mary Wilson was the best looking member, Diana was looking EXTRA-FINE during this performance. 👀
The end of the 60s!
Must bring back good memories
Born in early ‘58. We should feel blessed.
Motown's premier act...........THE SUPREMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP Mary! Someday you all will be together...
Dedicating this Supremes classic to the life of Mary Wilson, who sadly passed away aged 76, Motown founder, Berry Gordy, said he was “extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family”
Amen, dear J-of-Eshun ... amen.

Beautiful song. It's jyst timeless.
Gorgeous ❤❤❤
This was recorded and was scheduled to be Diana's first solo single but when Berry Gordy heard it, he knew it was a hit and decided it should be the final song for the group, knowing it would go to #1.
That only just highlights the different powers and beauties and strengths of "BERRY AND HIS LADIES", dear NYRNGR1.
@@bobdepaola7828 i think the supremes are the reason Kelly Rowland never blew up. we can tell Matthew modeled his girls after the lasses. mary should have had Diana's career.

This was Diana’s prime in voice!!!
Beautiful Diana just sails smoothly through this song with no effort at all. So sad there will never be a reunion now.
Those gowns were utterly splendid!!!!
If this doesn't take you to your happy place nothing will!
My favorite part of this song is the subtle guitar licks slowly going up to the "someday" part.
Diana's voice man, Chills!

December 1969, I was 11 years old. Earlier that year I had taken my very first plane ride. I like the Supremes back in the day, but I was listening to the Jackson 5 majority of the time. 2/12/2022
My Dad and I used to watch The Ed Sullivan Show.
That delicate control of her voice, I'm so jealous :D
I was in the hospital at Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam and this song was all I could think of when I looked out over the South China Sea on a moon-lit night and wished the next 6 months would instantly pass so I could be with my girlfriend (now married 49 years) back in San Jose, California.
BIG EYE ROLL to the way he introduced THE SUPREMES
Agreed ... nothing about Mary & Cindy continuing with Jean 🙄
I cried watching Ed Sullivan during that performance. I was 16.
I used to play drums in a rock band, my music teacher asked me what music i loved, I said at that time hard rock which lead to metal. He told me if I wanted to be a really good band member stop practicing all those chops I was doing on my practice pad and listen to lots of soul, r and b, Motown, some jazz, blues. He said learn to play time and grooves. This my friends is damned great music!!! Period!
