The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This song hit Number 1 on December 27, 1969 making it literally the last Number 1 pop hit of the 60s. Beautiful way to end that decade from a musical point of view.

One of the Supremes earlier hits had been to No. 1 in the charts and had dropped a place or two but after an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show went back to No. 1. I used to play drums in a rock band, my music teacher asked me what music i loved, I said at that time hard rock which lead to metal. He told me if I wanted to be a really good band member stop practicing all those chops I was doing on my practice pad and listen to lots of soul, r and b, Motown, some jazz, blues. He said learn to play time and grooves. This my friends is damned great music!!! Period!

...Diana may have been going solo, when this CLASSIC performance ran, but Mary was entering Chapter Two, of her Supremes leagacy; let's not forget, It was MARY, who decided that Jean Terrell should stay in the Group (as Diana's replacement), and, weathered the 'Bad Weather' of the sabotaging of 'The 70's Supremes'....to become, and, HONOR....being, The ULTIMATE SUPREME. RIP, My Beautiful One, Someday we WILL be Together, and you, will ALWAYS be SUPREME.....TOUCH....
