The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Tina was spectacular, but the backup singers were an important part of the show.
The fact that she was battling so much but you’d never know it because she always pulled it together to put on a good show for her fans
On stage is where she was happy and safe.
She wasn't a victim
She is a black girl, she had to work twice harder than anyone else to get her career going.
The stage was her safe haven
@@boma2484 tf she wasn’t
Man Tina and her backup dancers are more like athletes than entertainers.. the amount of energy they put into this song with singing and dancing is amazing. I can't imagine doing it for a whole 2 hour concert. All 4 women look amazing and their arms are so tone and defined I can't help to notice. I have so much respect for Tina and her backup singers.
They really are like athletes! Omg
Yea, the energy was and still is unmatched!
@Cosmyque Soul so true 👍
Singing alone takes a lot of bodily control and then Tina and the backups (don't know their names, sorry) had to show off! Haha. No playback audio or auto tune, either.
@@elizabethjones2084their names (from left to right starting at 1:11): Esther Jones, Stonye Figueroa, Claudia Lennear
The fact she did this routine well into her 70s is astounding. RIP Ms Tina Turner.
Actually through her 60s wrapping up last show at 69.Which is incredible
She’s a great example of how doing what you love keeps you young.
And sang LIVE each time!
@@TheReturnOfStephan1that’s one thing I loved about Tina is that she never believed in lipsynching.
I was just thinking this! And she smashed it every single time she performed it in her later years!
Who is watching this fantastic video and queen of rock and role in 2023
Watching 2024!!! RIP Tina
She started singing immediately after that.....monster hunt of a dance routine.....not even slightly breathless.....what a goddess.
She's amazing, absolutely -- but this is lip-synched.
@@dunnk90 it is? Despite the live band and her mouthing of the lyrics perfectly synchronized with the song? You can even hear her inhaling.
Not only that, Tina was performing with cracked ribs, and ringing ears most of the time because Ike beat her all the time. To this day Tina is an incredible person who doesnt play the victim even though she truly was a victim of violence and abuse. She is happy and living in Europe with her husband.
Her hurting didn’t even show. Good thing Tina got her happy ever after in the end. It may seem like Tina ended up dirt poor after her divorce with Ike (desperately leaving everything to Ike as long as she kept the Turner to her name) but her healing and reborn from the ashes started there.
That was her warm up. She may have synced for TV but she performed like that for years. She was physically fit and strong, provably what has seen her through her health problems over the last few years.
I just burned about 1,000 calories watching this.
A powerful voice this woman had. Rest well miss Tina Turner 💗
She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen!❤

No one will ever rock a tassel dress like she did.
She was my neighbor and I can say she was truly one of the kindest person I ever knew. I went to school with her kids Craig and little Ike.
This is so cool. So sad what happened to her sons too sigh
Hi. Saludos desde México. Descanse en paz Tina Torner. Reina del rock for ever and ever.
@@fithealthyme101what happened to them?

ONE WORD FOR "TINA" "HOT!!!" GREAT PERFORMER!!!!! AND THAT'S FROM A 70 YEAR OLD WHITE BOY! YOU WILL BE MISSED & REMEMBERED! R.I.P p.s. THIS IS WHEN MUSIC WAS KICK ASS BACK IN THE DAY!
I was today years old when I figured out that Proud Mary was a riverboat. Rip Tina.
The iconic black entertainers from this era are just effortlessly......brilliant.
You said it!
Effortless?! They had to deal with like... EVERYTHING. It's why they're iconic
They were flawless.
Tina is such a beautiful woman.
Yes she is
Don’t forget the Ikettes
Was. This was more than half a century ago.
man!!
What a bod.
My God she was beautiful.
NO ONE TODAY WOMAN GROUP OR SINGLE CAN COME CLOSE TO THESE DYNAMITE WOMEN.
She was incredibly famous. She was a GOD.
I’m a classic rocker, been playing guitar for almost 55 years, I’ve looked for a female singer like her all my life, I’ve never been able to find anyone like her, i never got tired of hearing her voice, RIP Tina.
She truly was a 🌟
She looked so pretty!!! And them legs though... 🔥👑💔🕊️
She is a prime example of what bringing it all to the stage, looks like. So much energy. It’s lost in todays crowd, except for a select few.
So true
All those ladies put a hell of a show on
Yup, today’s crowds are too busy checking their phones or trying to get the best angle to record.
She reminds me of poor little Beyonce...😶🫨😕😲😳🥺😖😣
@Frecie Magdirila so true strange brew..
There will never be a Queen, like Ms. Tina Turner Ever!! This woman fought from hell and back to make a name for her-damn-self. I got nothing but pure love and respect for her!!
Truth Indeed
NEVER
The original
She was not sure if she will be taken seriously as a rock singer in her 40s, and she became The Queen of Rock and Roll ❤️❤️
I remember seeing a show she did shortly after she left Ike. She was nearly starting over, playing smaller venues. I kind of thought she was washed up...then I saw the performance. Incredible! I was blown away. Then, after watching "What's Love..." and saw her life's story - wow! I was so pleased that she achieved so much success with "Private Dancer" and her new string of hits. She was an inspiration to so many, especially women who were dragged through hell by abusive monsters like Ike. I believe she died with peace of mind and pride. That's a pretty nice end to a great life lived.
It’s 2024 and the styling is timeless.
This is what Tina was born to do!!
I’ll bet this sent 1970 middle America off! They weren’t ready.
She's so amazing to watch. Her breathing is on point still after all of that dancing. I'd be on the floor rolling off the stage from exhaustion lol 🤣
Lol
@Lee Brown 😂🤣
Well, I couldn't have survived the dance routine, even at my best. Amazed that she then is able to sing - powerfully. I'd be on the floor, trying to catch my breath.
@@lindas.6285 🤣😂 lol. She was one of a kind. May she rest in peace. ♥️
Theres no way me either lmao. I would’ve been a singer who stood in place like Adele or Whitney Houston. I’m good. I would stand cute in my gowns and look gorgeous 😂.
R.I.P. Tina Turner.🙏
She was 30 years old at the time. She's dancing that even a 20-year old can't imitate. That's amazing.
Even at 79 she danced better then anyone younger
30 ain’t that old tho 😄
Not only is 30 not even old,… considering the fact she’s 80 something now
Dudes gotta be young as hell to say that
Unless you get ants in your pants 😁

Absolutely. Kept her private life out of the limelight for a while. Spousal issues are none of my business.

Tina Turner, the original Beyoncé, with soul and rock and roll spirit.
Tina just passed awsy. I know Beyonce is heartbroken. RIP Tina! When her sons died, I sensed she did not have long.
Beyonce will never be Tina..Tina sung live..B sings to her pre-records
@@ddnlee24 No she doesn't I've seen Beyoncé live countlessly now and she is singing her ass off from beginning to end in that microphone, typical haters 🙄
This woman wasnt even outta breathe after dancing! Pure artistry!
Tina Turner in heels, dancing continuously, singing at a break neck speed, keeping that pace from step one on stage, AMAZING ENTERTAINER!
My mans on the drum with the Josuke hair, killing it. 😆But Ms.Tina, she is the GOAT.
R.I.P Tina Turner!!!!!!! Simply the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💃💃💃💃💃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
To do ALL of that dancing and not be outta breath when they started singing takes SKILL.
Damn good! 53 years ago! Ed Sullivan should be given credit for not only booking the very best rock talent, but also raising the bar for the absolute best video quality, sound mixing, production, and sets. The camera work was amazing in this video. The way the girls come out in the foreground and all get into position with the camera following them and then getting a great view. Perfect. That performance required a hell of a lot of practice and planning by all involved. If any are still alive...a big thank you!
x2.
This was electric...without a charger! WOW! 😀
Force of nature. No one can compare.
Ike Turner Produced one of the greatest acts.
The Greatest music duo I music history
Possibly. Their music collection is incredible.
She was one of those few people who just gets your attention.

Beautiful short dresses and short skirts and short shorts been being made for years; and the females were wearing them beautifully. ↗Peace and respect to Tina Turner and her back-up singer's and dancers made some beautiful 🎵 music towards their gathering to do.↗👌
So crazy that no one was doing it like them at that time. Especially in segregated times-they still had them drooling.
I think they left them all thinking there was NO ONE like this and never would be. It was ...from the GODS ..thunder.. no words
Well Beyonce has it😂
Beyonce doesn't have "it". She's just overrated smoke and mirrors.
Go Tina Go Ikettes Go Go Go!!
Who can top them? No body that's who!
TINA the coldest female entertainer period 👑👑👑
She was FABULOUS and SO PRETTY TO !!! One of My favorite female Singer’s !!! RIP TINA !!
Rip to the Queen of Rock.
That’s lots of energy on stage
Extraordinary. Her 60s and 70s stuff is overshadowed by her 80s and 90s.
RIP to a pioneering queen. 👑
Rest In Peace, iconic Tina
RIP Tina - you were fabulous.
Very RISQUE for 1970....
TINA, there will NEVER be Anyone like YOU.

Fabulous performamce from all, especially Tina. But man that horn section was truly something.
RIP Tina, you were simply the best.
Everyone's keep talking about Tina, which she was incredible but none of that would have been possible without the genius of Ike Turner, real talk.
If you haven't noticed he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for his efforts...
That’s nice and all but she is the one who is performing, not him.
Tina had so much energy and talent. No wonder she was in the limelight for so many years.
RIP Tina!
Look at how in shape those girls were. Danced their asses off, and still belted out Proud Mary... So good!!!
RIP Tina was an electrifying entertainer. Those were the days my friend.
My god...kids like to throw around the term icon... THIS IS AN ICON
Bruh I just watched this like last week RIP QUEEN OF ROCK
This is good, wholesome music.
💯 live. No back track. No auto tune.
The fact that those young women on that stage in pink are probably great grandmothers now 😮 I would live to see them TODAY
Unfortunately, Ester Jones, the Ikette on the far left passed away in 2006. Stonye Figueroa, the Ikette with the short hair, still looks great and performs with her daughter. Claudia Lennear, the Ikette with the long hair, dated Mick Jagger around this time. She was one of the inspirations for the Rolling Stones song "Brown Sugar." She was in the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom.
Happy 83rd birthday Tina ❤️!! We all love you!!!
I can’t get over how magnificent this is!
Ike Turner was a "Rocket 88" Rock n Roll legend. But Tina Turner was " The Queen of Rock N Roll".
R.I.P. Tina
The 70s looked like a lot of fun! 🥳
This was 1969 lol
That’s how you open a show!
RIP Ike and Tina!
I like how they all dress up for the performance. Days gone by
she’s so beautiful
Three days later, Diana Ross & the Supremes gave their final performance together.
How do you know that? That’s pretty amazing stuff though. My cousin is on stage with Tina as one of her backup singers in this video. That’s good history though KING.
the Supremes actually performed in December 1969
@@smoothnubian yes, but Diana Ross' final performance as a Supreme was January 14, 1970 at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas

@Funkdafied 89 😂😂😂
Came back to watch this again..I am so sad to know she is no longer with us, but will still continue to live with our lord and savior. We love you, Tina, keep moving and grooving in heaven! And remember, “what’s love gotta do with it..?!”. RIP Tina Turner (1939-2023)
