Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plesiss will be fighting soon as Israel Adesanya Defends his UFC middleweight title. Dricus Du Plessis is coming off a very impressive knockout victory over Former UFC Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. And Israel Adesanya is coming off his middleweight title fight against Alex Pereira where he knocked out his rival to recapture his UFC middleweight title. Dricus Du Plessis is looking to defeat Israel Adesanya and become a South African Born UFC Champion who brings the title back to Africa. Dricus Du Plessis brings very powerful strikes, relentless pacing, and underrated submissions which can help him capture the UFC title against Israel Adesanya. On the other hand, Israel Adesanya brings vicious stirking and well-developed takedown defense which can enable thim to pick apart Du plessis on the feet before ultimately finishing him. This is a very very fun middleweight title fight but it is going to be a very ugly buildup along the way.

The fact that DPP looks like he gasses is totally irrelevant because he’s never actually lost a fight in the UFC from gassing and he maintains his pace despite “looking” like he’s tired.

What's important to note with this fight is how much Dricus relies on his opponents making mistakes and giving him opportunities. For instance, in the fight with Rob, it was very competitive until Rob shot for a lazy takedown and got reversed and taken down. Dricus immediately punished him with ground and pound and Rob wasn't able to recover for the remainder of the fight. With Izzy, there will be no lazy takedown attempts and far less openings. I could see Izzy overwhelming him on the feet with his size advantage and employing counter-wrestling to keep it there where he can pick Dricus apart. Definitely could be competitive but it's a very different matchup to Dricus vs Rob
EDIT: For reference the "lazy takedown" attempt was actually Rob missed a left hook and entering the clinch with a lock around the head and arm of Dricus. He was standing straight up with his hips in which was how he got thrown. Either way the whole fight revolved around Dricus using the southpaw jab against Robert blitzing in and that's simply not something Izzy will do.
Rob and Vettori took down Adesanya. Both got his back, and Vettori nearly submitted him. DDP is far more competent than both on the ground, and far more of a finisher

You clearly didn't watch the fight.
Rob took Dricus down and Dricus attempted to guillotine choke. Rob picked that up and switched position, leading to Rob attempting to ground & pound, yet not being able to achieve such as Dricus manages to get back up and Rob stepped back & proceeded with the stand up. While Dricus kept pressuring him, not giving him an opportunity to blitz him based on his stance switch & managing to fight at southpaw 80% of the fight, which made Rob struggle to have a fluid run through him.
Nearly towards the end of the round. Dricus secured a head and arm throw on Rob, he took Rob down and delivered ground & pound while advancing ground position, ending the first round on top, with multiple attempts at a submission.
Nope you got that wrong, DDP's wrist control will rob Izzy's ability to use the cage to climb back to his feet, meaning once DDP gets Izzy down unlike others Izzy is staying there.
This is laughable now, DDP has 2 ways to win stand up and grappling, Izzy only has one way he must keep it on the feet, once again , DDP has no chance just like against Whittaker, what make this even more ridiculous is unlike the fight against Whittaker, these 2 actually trained together and both guys admitted that DDP dominated in grappling department, so we don't need to assume, DDP is gonna have the confidence from that and IZZY is gonna have that in the back of his mind, we have seen this so many times in the passed when guys are expecting the takedown, they become hesitant in their striking and also they are open to the KO because they are concentrating on defending the takedown, DDP is gonna finish him on the feet or the ground, whichever option presents itself in the fight, he has options!!!
Anyone who think Dricus is anywhere near Izzy is an idiot; but fighting is fighting: anything can happen. Dricus will look for mistakes.

Alex Pereira is a "PRECISE" striker. He doesn't strike like a flat-footed drunk. Du Plessis may have the power but lacks the precision, coordination and footwork to affect Adesanya. His strength is in his grappling, however if he cannot get Israel down, he will lose this fight.
Let's also not act like Israel isn't preparing for the takedown threat.

I do believe DDP will give Izzy problems with his grappling, but on the feet especially in the pocket, Izzy is a beast. A lot of his KOs are from close range.
DDP has very very weird striking tendencies and is very accurate on top of hitting very hard he can definitely be an issue on the feet but he’s so much smaller than Izzy I think grappling would be his best chance for sure his ground and pound is nasty

He was born only months before Nelson Mandela became president, in fact the Apartheid ended only ended 44 days after he was born. South Africa, far more than most other countries, has conversations about race constantly. There are still major tensions between different communities in South Africa, let's hope this does not become the focal point of this fight as a South African champion could potentially be a great uniter for South Africans unless everything around him gets bugged down in discussions that hold potentially far deeper repercussions than I think most people are aware of.

I was surprised at how few people thought DDP stood a chance against Whittaker. Admittedly, his fighting style doesn't look pretty or polished, but his finishing rate is extremely high for a reason. The dude has power and underrated grappling, so anyone that's still doubting him haven't been paying attention. DDP absolutely has what it takes to beat, possibly even finish, Adesanya. Furthermore, I agree with you about the "racist" angle, Lionel. Some media members are really leaning into this narrative, and it's disgusting because there is no proof whatsoever that Dricus is racist. He could have chosen his words more carefully, but objectively, he isn't wrong: he will be the first champion that resides in Africa if he beats Israel. And I'm no Izzy hater, but he is the only person that brought racial slurs into this beef. Either way, I'm very excited for this showdown, cuz at this point, it's pretty evident that there is legitimate animosity between the two combatants, and that oftentimes leads to riveting fights.

Yeah I am saddened that Adesanya (and Ngannou) have taken Du Plessis comments the way they have. I don't think the 'woke' narrative has any grounds. Izzy's IQ and his never ending cardio conditioning together with his super smart defense is the best weapon he has apart from all other things in his arsenal and I see Izzy capitalizing on each and every mistake that Dricus makes which he makes in plenty because of his fighting style and even though in the past he has somehow managed to get away with those error and holes in his game but this time it's gonna be different there's no way he gets away with those mistakes against The LastStylebender Izzy is way too smart and intelligent he's gonna bait him into a trap and definitely gonna catch Dricus making mistakes and drown him but that very same wild and awkward style of Dricus is a threat against anyone and he has a good chance to pull it off.

Don’t see dpp winning by wrestling mostly because Izzy has shown to have zero issue going up against good wrestlers that are smaller than him. He has an issue when it comes to fighters with similar dimensions he has or that are bigger (jan and Alex) great defense against rob, Brunson, Marvin x2 I see this going really similarly to how his fight against costa went.

Defeating Adesanya at 185 is an incredibly challenging task. While Alex Pereira managed to accomplish it, there's no denying that Adesanya operates at an extraordinary level. In my opinion, only Khamzat and Alex possess the ability to take on and potentially overcome Adesanya.
I'd agree but if you watch his fights with vettori, cannonier, gastelum. They were all able to land solid shots on him and Dricus will be able to land too. Just depends whether he can really rock him before he gets countered to sleep. Don't completely count Dricus out is all I'm saying, crazier things have happened in the sport.

Agreed, adesanya is the greatest (most active and consistent) modern champ, so it builds into his legacy if he ko's du plessis, but dricus has always been a very likeable, light hearted guy in his interviews, so i'd be very happy for the guy if he wins the title.

We said this when weidman fought silva. Kind of see this in the same way--an awkward fighter against a very technical fighter. Sometimes that awkward style puts you off. Hell, I thought din't stand a slight chance with rob. Who knows! Excited to see how this plays out though.
