My husband has two people in the local area alone with the same name. One has the same middle name and age too. In a case of mistaken identity, the police showed up at my door to arrest my husband at 5 am one Sunday morning, mistaking my husband for him. The other one had failed to show up in court for sentencing after being convicted of spousal abuse. The most unusual names are not guaranteed to be unique.

I can’t remember but there has been a handful of people who have. Someone else who tried to sue was Spike Lee when Spike TV had changed its name. I cannot remember the original channel name but they changed it to Spike TV. Spike Lee tried to sue and he lost that case and the internet collectively laughed at him.

That part confused me too, it's not even true. I've seen plenty of celebs that don't use their full names at all. Closest example that comes to mind is Jungkook putting the alphabet and leaving "jk" with underscores.
If anything I've seen more regular folk using their actual names in their public profiles, to make sure they're recognisable for friends/family, and discoverable by businesses.

A few years back, I had a similar thing happen to me in an MMORPG named "Anarchy Online". Some person contacted me in-game, out of the blue, and demanded that I delete my character so they could then make one with that same name. Apparently, their real-life name was the same as my character's. I never knew if it was their first name, or their last, or anything else about them. I ended up having to block them.
It's so weird. Like if your name is "James Smith" and James Smith is gone but you're REALLY proud of being James Smith just make it like "realjamessmilth" or "jamesmarksmith" if your middle name is Mark. Or you live in LA "jamssmithLA". There's so much you can do that isn't 123
