I watched Jordan’s entire career an I’ll tell you what makes him so different.
You can be the hardest worker ever and still never be able to do the things he did on a regular basis.
Jordan’s unusually large hands (the average for a man 7’9”…the only center in the league right now with hands bigger than Jordan is Boban.)
His uncanny balance, center of gravity, and the ability to square up from anywhere at any time. What haters don’t realize with the Iverson “crossover,” Jordan never lost his center of gravity or his footing. Compare it to people getting crossed up and you’ll see the difference.
When you are the fastest, jump the highest, are the most competitive, and have the best work ethic, that’s next to impossible to top.
There’s nothing LeBron’s ever done that I don’t feel I couldn’t do at 6’8-6’9, but there are things LeBron physically can’t do that Jordan could, because of Jordan’s bigger hands and better athleticism.
    I also put it like this - what’s more dangerous, a 6’6” LeBron or a 6’9” Jordan?
It was like God said He was going to design a person specifically to dominate and be better than everyone else, so He gave him the best of everything.
Plus he played EVERY NIGHT, and had a “For the Love of the Game” clause in his contract that let him play pickup basketball anywhere at anytime.
    No load management here.
And no highlight on CZcams compared to watching him live. You NEVER felt cheated.
Meanwhile, LeBron’s quit on his teammates plenty of times, but my favorite version of LeBron was the Pre Miami Heat Cleveland LeBron.
After he realized he could step over his teammates to get his way, and constantly needing all the best players to win, he stopped being fun to watch.
Jordan would always choose the worst team to play on(or to play against the best, not join them), just so when he won, he could show you just how much better he was than you.
The differences between Jordan and LeBron are nowhere near as close as you younger kids think.

The defense rest!!!!!!! Jury, what's your verdict.... Your honor, we the jury find Michael Jeffery Jordan guilty of being the G.O.A.T. Judge.... Mr. James could u please stand.... U have been found guilty by your peers for trying to impersonate the G.O.A.T.... The penalty for such a horrible & dispicable way of playing basketball is disgrace to all who came an played before u.... The testimonies that I heard from some of the players that played against this man were unreal...... When Mr. Bird said that God was disguised as Michael Jordan, that's all I needed to hear.... Mr. Jordan dominated the sport of basketball when u could actually play real basketball, I don't know what they call this game now..... Mr. James, u and all of these other players are trying to live up to the goat status when in actuality, y'all are just a bunch of kids playing pickup basketball... Y'all get to pick a d choose which other star y'all wanna attempt to win a championship with..... So here is my ruling..... I sentence u and any other player who think they can even live up to the 🐐 status, to be immediately admitted into a mental hospital for reason of insanity. U may appeal this judgement in 125 years.... Now get the hell out of my courtroom.....

That was in the deep playoffs and the Pistons all knew that Jordan was the only good player on the team. Kawhi has the closest shooting chart and defensive mindset to MJ. Lebron has a losing record in both the regular and post season when facing Kawhi teams. Lebron also has his worst stats when counting only minutes guarded by Kawhi compared to being guarded by any other player in the league. Imagine if Kawhi was a much better scorer, more efficient, more athletic, a better passer, hustled like Westbrook, had the mentality of Kobe, the durability of Lebron, an unmatched work ethic, passed like Wade, trash talked like Bird and far more effective leadership. He would then be MJ. So if Kawhi poses such problems for Lebron, just think what MJ would do to him. Especially adding the trash talking head games to all of that.

When the game is on the line, can you will yourself to score 20 or 25 in the 4th quarter to carry your team when it's not going your way?

MJ was absolutely AWESOME! And I wasn't even a fan of his when he was playing.

  • @thomasautonomousanonymous2050

The "hang time" is just an illusion, he had an insane leaping ability that gave him separation space at his high point and more time to adjust as he was coming down... am a pretty good shooter but my feet have to be set, I have to have a good look at the rim, and there is certainly no ability to adjust my shot on the way down...MJ also had freakishly big hands that were strong AF that helped control the ball as he adjusted midair to shoot or pass successfully (or as you've seen doing nasty fakes while palming the ball)...

MJ's unfair advantage over the League
    1: Hang time
When the defender was coming down, Jordan was still in the air, he was also able to shoot on the way down
2: Ability to grip the ball with one hand
He would get blocked mid air but still able to recover the shot on the way down
3: His ability to jump as high as a 7footer
Him being 6'6 and having a vertical of 48" inches would give you the impression that he spent more time in the air than most
    4: His energy
He had more energy than the rest of the league, more stamina wins
5: His mental state of mind

Michael Jordan also possessed this raw, competitive nature; especially crunchtime, when the game is on the line, or in situations during deficits. He also had a killer instinct. In today's NBA game, the league allows one hand checking on defense. A lot of people do not realize that Jordan played in an era in which two-handed checking was allowed on defense at that time. That means Jordan had to work extremely hard to get around or through the defense in order to get in the lane to score or get his shot off over defenders. The NBA game was very, very physical during his early and prime career. He averaged 30 points per game during his career. Remember the Bad Boy Pistons? Or the front line of the Celtics? How about the Physical Thuggish Knicks? If Jordan played in today's NBA game, he would probably would have averaged 45-50 points per game. Jordan was just a Barbaric Warlord. He was a Gunslinger and he wanted to kill his opponents on the court.

He was incredible at defense, court awareness, passing, everything. He's famous for the dunks, yeah, but that was just a small part of his ability.
Early in his career, they had him playing point guard for half a season or so and he still put up great numbers. Not as many points, but tons of assists, and still great defense. As a 33 year old, Jordan was the reason I wanted to play basketball. My dad took me to a game against the hornets when I was like 5 and I still remember it to this day. I agree with you though, they're both number one and unique in their own ways. But, I've personally never gotten pure excitement and joy from an LBJ game like I did watching Jordan as a child. Probably just nostalgia that makes me say Jordan is the GOAT, but I'm not blind or stupid enough to deny that LBJ deserves to be considered in the discussion.

@stryfetc1 He could drop 80 in a few games. But his averages would realistically be in the mid 40s and the high would be at the 50s. Remember he averaged 37.1 ppg in an era where hand checking was allowed and the pace was slow. That could easily translate to 48ppg in today's NBA where the focus is a fast paced game with no hand checking and defensive three second rules (which makes the lane wide open!). Just look at Jordan scoring on three or four guys in the paint and imagine what he could do with a wide open lane! The rules where changed because the NBA needed a fast paced game so that someone could be the next "Jordan" who could score so many points. They achieved that on paper. But if you watched the games, you would understand the level of difficulty it was back then to score. Thus, you appreciate player dropping 20 ppg. Now even a borderline all star can average 20ppg.

There were other superstars when he played, like Magic, Bird, Barkley, Hakeem, Robinson, and later on Shaq, Kobe, and Iverson showed up,…but no player felt as UNSTOPPABLE as Michael Jordan. Jordan was feared by all, at best teams hoped to contain or limit Jordan, everyone knew there is no way to “stop” MJ. The Pistons in the late 80s contained MJ the best, but even then he still went off. Jordan’s explosive speed, athleticism and mental desire to win is what made him what he was. If MJ didn’t have that mental aspect, he probably would have been a dude like T-Mac or Dominique Wilkins, an offense mainly dude that does flashy dunks and gets bounced in 1st round.

Here’s the thing that nobody under 30 can appreciate. Michael Jordan was bigger off the court than on it. He transcended basketball.
You cannot imagine how famous he was in the 90’s. Little kids were shooting ball on some dirt court in the middle of Tasmania pretending to be MJ. He was the most recognizable sports figure in the world, and is still among the most famous people on earth.
He will never be forgotten. He is a living legend. 1000 years from now, Air Jordan will be talked about by AI basketball robots playing the perfect game by copying Mike.
I’m telling you there’s not anyone in the NBA today that even begins to approach this man. Everyone wanted to be like Mike. If you were in business, you wanted to be the MJ of business. If you were the best surgeon, you were called the Micheal Jordan of surgery.
When that man went anywhere it was like Elvis Presley going on tour with the Beatles. It was unbelievable living through it. He is an absolute legend.

Respect for actually putting biases aside and appreciate Jordan’s greatness. Remember now Jordan is one of three players that won MVP, Finals MVP and defensive player of the year. He had all around game.

How can anyone mention LeBron over Kobe and Kobe took Jordans game to a whole new level, watching Kobe was like watching Jordan and if Jordan tell the world that Kobe was his little brother because he tought kobe everything he knew, but before Curry leaves he will be the greatest because I have never ever seen anyone in the his+tory of the game shoot like him not even close

I appreciate you getting educated a bit on what MJ was about, and hope you watch more on him. Also gotta keep in mind that he was doing this in the highlights you saw between about 20-40 years ago, and there's STILL a bunch of his palming/hangtime moves that nobody can do now.
To you and others who claim that LeBron's the best "all-around player" though: doesn't that mean you should be great on D as well? Yeah LeBron was great during his all-defensive seasons from 2008-14, but it's been 7 going on 8 seasons since then, can't blame all of that on age. MJ was 1st team all-defensive through his last year with the Bulls when he was 35.
Then if you look at per game stats, MJ wasn't too far behind in rebounds and assists - especially considering he was 3 inches shorter & 50+ pounds lighter than LeBron, and also didn't play point nearly as much. And how you gonna let MJ be above you in average blocks per game given your size advantage??
    MJ:
    30.1 pts, 6.2 reb, 5.3 ast, 2.3 stl, 0.8 blk, 2.7 turnovers
    49.7% FG, 32.7% 3, 83.5% FT
    27.9 PER, .250 WS/48, 9.2 BPM, 7.74 VORP/season
    LeBron:
    27.0 pts, 7.4 reb, 7.4 ast, 1.6 stl, 0.7 blk, 3.5 turnovers
    50.4% FG, 34.5% 3, 73.3% FT
    27.4 PER, .232 WS/48, 8.9 BPM, 7.63 VORP/season
Also for the best all-around game, shouldn't that player have at least a pretty good mid-range game (which LeBron doesn't)? The worst thing you can say about MJ's game is his 3 pt shooting, but as you can see, at only 1.8% off from LeBron's it was decent especially back then when there was no emphasis on 3s.
One more thing: how you gonna call 1:18 a travel when he's dribbling?? I know you're biased, but c'mon now.

@King P You just grew up a little late. I grew up watching all of Bill Russell's home games at USF. He had won 2 state titles in high school, then 2 NCAA titles and 56 wins in a row in college. Then he won an Olympic gold medal and 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons. He was 88-54 vs. Wilt, who was easily the greatest offensive player in NBA history. Bill was 6'10 and around 220. Smartest player ever and he intimidated opponents who were afraid to drive the middle and have their shot stuffed back in their face. No 3-pt shots back then. He was very fast, ran the 440 in 49, was among the top rated high jumpers in the world, also ran the relays. Bill could jump so high he could get his chin over the rim from a standing jump and could flick a coin off the top of the backboard. Michael won 6 titles and was awesome, Bill won 11 in 13 years including 8 in a row. He was the best and I saw them all.

Great review. I'm a old head so MJ live he was so clutch. Always a leader even in defeat. It's my main qualification for goat. Lebron gives up when he's losing big games Jordan always became a monster in big games. It's tons of great players that never got rings because of MJ. And no one not even Kobe had mjs skill it just feel different when MJ do it and no other player has made me feel the same sense
