Y’all need to check out LeBron James 2018 playoff mixtape. Jordan did very little but score a lot without Scottie and the greatest coach of all time. LeBron carried really bad rosters with mediocre coaching to the Finals against harder Finals opponents like the Spurs with 3HOF and the Warriors with 4 and could’ve scored as much as Jordan did if he wanted to. LeBron just takes less shots and gets his teammates more involved

His number 23 was retired..meaning no Bulls player could ever wear it again! He wore 45 because that was his baseball number...an opponent insulted him saying 45 is not the same as 23 so he put it back on and paid the fines to the NBA for wearing it!
NBA quickly dropped fines...but again it's Jordan he didn't care! It was the point!.…..FUEL! HE WAS DIFFERENT!
Jordan’s best thing was his fade away jumper. It was indefensible.
Did you know that from 1996-1998 the bulls never lost more than two games in a row with Michael Jordan in the lineup regardless of Scottie etc as long as MJ was in the lineup for 626 games the bulls never lost more than two games in a row including playoffs LeBron can't ever say that

He was one of the fastest players in NBA history. He had one of the highest recorded verticals in NBA history. He was nearly unstoppable going to the hole, but he made himself into one of the most efficient midrange shooters in NBA history. He was maybe the best defensive guard in NBA history, probably the best offensive player in NBA history, one of the most clutch players in NBA history, and one of the most competitive players in NBA history. I started watching the NBA during his rookie year. The Bulls were on WGN--a station out of Chicago that was broadcast nationally. Every Bulls game became must watch TV.

You can argue rings, points, and on-court impact, but Jordan was the most fun to watch. He possessed a physical grace that none of the other GOAT contenders had.
5:36 I’ve seen this “3 point era” trope enough without saying this:
If you consider the fact that it was his record in the finals that was broken by the “3 point era”; and he only did that to answer the media talking shit about Clyde Drexler’s 3 point shot, coupled with the fact this snowman marshmallow-assed “3 point era” also comes with whistles for flops. This man made three point plays the hard way by taking it at your chest in an era where you could punch someone and not necessarily get thrown out. Iverson was right, and so was ever other hall of fame nba player that told you, in this “era”, Mike could average 50. For a whole season, 7 times in a row if his “prime” was congruent to present “era”.
17:29 is such an insane play. MJ gets faked out bad and leaves his feet, but he has the presence of mind to turn around mid-air and the ability to hang in the air long enough to block the shot on the other side 🤯
As far as the 3 point shooting thing goes, Jordan was as good of a 3 point shooter as he wanted to be. He didn't want to shoot 9 3s a game. He wanted to attack. That didn't mean he couldn't.
Exactly. I remember him being interviewed before Game 1 of the 1992 NBA Finals. It was being said that in comparison with Portland Trailblazers guard Clyde Drexler, Drexler was a better 3-point shooter than MJ. MJ simply responded with, "Clyde is a better 3-pointer shooter than I CHOOSE to be."
We all know what happened in the first half of Game 1.
You should watch the 'making the case' series by Clayton Crowley. He makes the case for 8 different players to be the GOAT and makes solid arguments for all 8. It's definitely worth watching.

Steve Kerr once said that Mike was the most fundamentally sound basketball player ever. His footwork was impeccable. Everything he did was so precise. Pump fakes were perfect. Add all of this to his freakish athleticism and desire to win … it all equals what we all had a chance to watch back in the day. Absolute greatness!
One thing this video really captures about Jordan (by virtue of its breakneck pacing) is his _relentlessness._ He NEVER stopped attacking, both offensively and defensively. Jordan at his peak was clearly the best offensive player and arguably the best defensive player in the world.
Best closer in all of sport. Lifeling Chicagoan. Watched every game since 1984. Determination and will to win. Bulls players had fistfights during practices. All final rivals were bigger than us. We had bigger hearts. There was giant mural leaving downtown Chicago to xway of Pippen with the caption vs ANYONE!
If I remember correctly, the Bulls had also retired MJ's jersey/number when he left the NBA after his father's death. When he returned he wore 45 but when he went back to 23 his jersey/number was still retired. MJ had a maintenance person bring the jersey down from the rafters in Chicago and he wore it that night and was fined by the NBA because Chicago had not filed the paperwork to unretire it yet.
That's true. He also wore 12 for a game, but that's a whole other story.

I've watched this mixtape a dozen times and another dozen times people reacting to it and it's always fun! There's so many things about him as a player that are still mind-boggling to me. He's the only player I can recall consistently breaking down his defender (or multiple ones) on his way to the basket and dunking on the biggest guy on the opposing team.
Him and the Bulls winning every time they made the finals is an absolutely insane fact considering how the league had expanded from the 60's Celtics dynasty and being able to win two separate 3-peats is something that nobody has achieved since. A lot of greats after him have won, but other teams also ate good while they were around; once MJ and the Bulls got a taste of that championship champagne, nobody was even allowed at the table lol!
Gotta remember this man was doing this 30+ years ago! MJ was truly ahead of his time and revolutionised the game to what it is today
words can not describe 98% of the games he played in. Early on he was mostly dunk because nobody could stop him. As he got older he got to be a very good jump shooter.
Got to meet him once in a gas startion. Fleeting moment, but he was very cool.
When you mentioned the game when he returned from his first retirement must have been huge. That game was in March of 95, and an article I read who talked to the people working the Pacer's arena said the craziness was incredible. They were asked for over 160 press credentials for a normal game like it was the Olympics. EVERYONE wanted tickets to it. It was the highest rated game of the previous 30 years. From the mid 60's until this game no other game was bigger. The 98 Finals his last championship was the highest rated finals in all of NBA history.
You just don't get the full story of Jordan, or any player really, just by watching a mix tape. You had to watch the guy night after night and the impact he brought to the Bulls to truly understand how great he was.
Totally agree. You can’t capture the gravity he had by watching highlights. I’m a 76ers fan but when the Bulls came to town, you could feel it. I loved (still do) the 6ers but when MJ came to town, I went to watch MJ play. I still rooted for my team but watching Jordan gave me chills.
Phil Jackson went to the Lakers and coached the Kobe/Shaq teams and then went back after Shaq left. He won five titles with the Lakers in addition to the six with the Bulls. He’s called “the zen master” because he was so good at managing the huge egos on his teams (MJ, Pippin, Rodman, Shaq, Kobe, among others.) He also won two championships as a player with the Knicks in the early 70s, so 13 total titles.
In today’s game MJ would have averaged over 40 per game. The current rules, would make him a god mode like a video game
No i think his point averages would be about the same. (Still no far from 40 in some seasons)Defenses can zone up and take away lanes to the basket and easily send double teams in todays game. He might average more assists though as he would suck defenses in and leave good 3 point shooters open.
@@joshido7352 Zone will not stop Mike lol. Look at these highlights again and count how many of the points are in double/triple team situations. In fact mike already played against the Zone as a wizards. Pre meniscus, the last 10 games, he averaged 29.1 points. As a 39 year old, in a league where both hand checking and zone was allowed. Not to mention the physical defense and hard fouls he was facing as well as how many free throws he would amass in a game now, he would easily average 40+ points a game.
@@Silver_Sage663 being able to send a double on the catch or before the catch is much different to sending a double when dude is getting ready to shoot. He would be forced to give up the ball more and todays higher pace would open up more opportunities and space for teammates.
We’re splitting hairs here though I’m saying he would average the same as he did which still would make him the best scorer ever and in todays game would average more assist.
@@joshido7352 My understanding of the zone defence is that when put against Michael Jordan, it's basically a slightly less optimised and way less physical version of the Jordan rules. Jordan struggled against the 88-88-90 pistons mostly due to the physicality aspect of the Jordan rules but in a league where you would get fouls for touching the offense player, he would not struggle.
@@Silver_Sage663 physicality has nothing to do with it. In the 80s dudes were sending people when he was already in the paint to clobber him. In the 90s they couldn’t keep him from catching the ball on an iso(due to the rules at the time) , especially with a triangle offense.
It would be easier to force the ball out of his hands in todays game than it was in his prime, was my point. I can have a guy cheat off his man to help or just play a straight zone. Watch some film you’ll see what I mean.

He absolutely bulked up and improved because of the Pistons. I was in highschool when he was at his peak and it was unreal to watch him! No internet so you had to actually watch. I’d like a compilation of the biggest fouls he received in his career and compare that to LeBron 😂
In 1991 my parents took me to my first Bulls game as a birthday present. When Michael Jordan stepped onto the court during player introductions, it legitimately felt like God was stepping onto the court. I was only 10, but I think everybody in Chicago Stadium felt the same as me.

If y'all didn't learn anything from the Last Dance, you should know that MJ could do whatever he wanted. If he wanted to shoot the 3 he could. Back when he played, nobody really shot 3 pointers like they do now. There were 3 points specialists, like Steve Kerr & Reggie Miller, but most players took 2 point shots.
I have watched this mixtape at least 50 times. Goosebumps every time. So glad I grew up watching him in real time. No one ..will ever be in Jordan's league. He had virtually no weakness on the court. And was the best offensive and defensive player for a solid decade.

Scottie Pippen was an unfocused, undedicated player, his first few years in the NBA. Jordan turned him into warrior and made him into a Hall of Famer, forcing him to take his mental game to the highest level. Jordan knew that he couldn't win championships without a number two. This is often overlooked when considering MJ's greatest accomplishments.
Give Scottie more credit, and MJ less.

Also to piggy back onto your talk about his work ethic, there's a notorious game in the '97 NBA Finals vs the Jazz in game 5 called the "Flu game" where MJ played with the flu and still put up 38 pts to win.

The amazing memories this Man elicits for many Chicagoans is truly the best ❤ week nights were The Simpsons, Seinfeld, then the lotto balls drawing right before every Bulls game. My Dad would sleep on the couch until the game and I'd have to wake his a$$ up lol. And #45 Damo!

The rivalry between the Bulls vs Knicks were probably the most epic series and they met in the playoffs normally in the Eastern conference finals…..those games were wild.
I stopped watching basketball a long time ago so i cant comment on any of the current players but Michael Jordan was always my favorite. He was the reason i really got into basketball. There's been many great players in different eras. Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, etc. Why does one have to be better than another? They all made contributions to the game and they were all great in their eras. They all deserved to be talked about.

Great reaction as always guys. A little more Jordan jersey number trivia for you…. 1) you were right about him coming back after his hiatus as #45. 2) he wore 4 different numbers over his total career - #23 obviously, #45 when he came back from his first retirement, #9 as a member of the US Olympic team, and #12 just in one game. The #12 game was a funny story. They had game in Orlando against the Magic and someone snuck into the Bulls locker room and stole MJ’s jersey from his locker. The only other jersey the team had that he could wear was a generic #12 jersey with no name on the back. And that was the only night he wore something different than his traditional 23 or comeback 45.

Regarding shooting three pointers, Michael said he didn’t really like to shoot 3s because he felt it made him lazy and he didn’t attack the basket when he was looking for threes.
He wanted to to completely dominate and demoralize the other team and he felt that attacking the basket did that because he was unstoppable
If I remember correctly he still has the highest vertical ever recorded in the NBA. He was just in a league of his own more than any other athlete.

I don’t think people understand how ridiculously difficult that shot at 2:47 is. How he goes up off his feet, double clutches and gets the shot off without touching the ground.
Jordan one of the few godlike athletes in history, up there with Messi, Ali, Mike Tyson etc, had that something extra
Mike is one of the greatest mid range shooters of all time. With his mentality and how he adapted his game throughout his career I have no reason to doubt him and fully believe he would be even more dominant today

The guy he made up the story about was Lebradford Smith. Smith had a GREAT game against Mike that night, and Jordan said Smith said “good game Mike” to him in a sarcastic way. The next game, Mike ended up with 42 points, and Smith with only like 18.
However, Smith never said anything to Mike after the first game. Mike made it all up as a way to psych himself up for the next game.
You say you'd watch those highlights over and over again... imagine how many times I've watched the original video... plus the number of videos like yours reacting to it.
There's a video out there of players saying that MJ played every practice like it was the playoffs. He instilled that in his teammates so when it was game time they were ready for anything. He was a beast and his competitveness was matched by no one. He will always be the G.O.A.T.

The guy Jordan hit his final shot on (as a Bull) was Bryon Russell. The story goes that while Mike was retired in ‘94 (first retirement) he went to hangout with Karl Malone and John Stockton when the Jazz were in town for a game.
According to Jordan, Russell asked Jordan why he quit & then said it was be because Jordan knew Russell could guard him. This of course pissed Jordan off, and Karl Malone told Jordan to ignore him, as he was just a young rookie & didn’t know any better yet. Jordan never forgot about it though, and hit 2 game winners against him in the finals.
Think I recommended this before but the Making The Case series by Clayton Crowley is something you guys should definitely check out. He articulates how great these NBA legends are perfectly in each of them.

Great video, fellas. You have to imagine that he played like this every night. Losing was a non option for him. Growing and raised in Chicago (indoctrinated into fandom of teams like the Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks) during that time, it was a privilege to watch him play. The man had no weaknesses. If he played in this era of basketball, the rules that are implemented in today's game (no hand checks, getting a flagrant foul just for having bad breath, etc.) would favor him. If you think he was unstoppable then, he would average whatever the hell wanted today.
tenacity and killer instinct imo is what sets the goats apart from the others. with the game on the line and the clock winding down last second, who do you want taking the final shot? im taking Larry first, and MJ second, Kobe third, and Curry fourth.

I was blessed with the opportunity to see him live quite a few times. It was amazing to say the least. Even he spoke on the greatest being era based. He has never said he was the greatest, and that made me respect him even more. He says he can't be the greatest because he never got the chance to play against the greats before him. Yet, he acknowledges that he took pieces of a lot of their games and polished them to fit his game. When he "perfected" that turnaround jumper.....whew...and he had some tough seasons where he didn't win it all....but to 3-peat twice......Come on...
Favorite Jordan story was they were playing the Utah Jazz, I believe, and Jordan got the ball and dunked it on their PG who was much smaller than Jordan. As Jordan was heading back down the court someone yells out "Hey Jordan why don't you pick on someone your own size?"
The very next trip down the floor Jordan gets the ball and dunks it on their Center who is much taller than Jordan. As Jordan heads back down the court he turns to the guy who yelled out and asks, "Was he big enough?"

I'm so glad to see this one. Jordan is easily my GOAT (though I know greatness when I see it and Lebron is great as well), and this is the GOAT highlight reel for Jordan. For those wondering because they were born too late to watch him play, yes, it was like that watching him in games as well. He just gave you chills a few times each night with how good he was.

i think it’s difficult to really get a sense for MJ just from watching a mixtape of highlights. especially nowadays when we have everyone doing stepback threes with kyrie handles and double clutch jellies and shit.
dont get me wrong obviously his highlights are still insanely impressive but modern fans might be a little disappointed because it doesnt look as crazy anymore.
what makes Mike the GOAT was his fucking consistency and greatness, i was born after his career but if you do research and listen to the people who actually played with or against him you’ll see it, he used to average 30+ a game but he did it while playing 80 games a year. He was a killer. People talk about how you could just feel him deciding “im not gonna lose” and just turn it on almost at will. he has to be one of the most consistent players of all time, and when the stakes were at the highest he came through every single time, 6 years in a row.
people (trolls and idiots) nowadays like to do this thing where they’ll post a random scrub off the bench in the 2020s doing a double clutch reverse layup and say “look at this! the worst players in todays game do the same moves people praise MJ for! he wouldn’t last in todays league, he played with plumbers, he’s overrated, this is your GOAT!?”

it helps to win 11 titles as a coach when you coach MJ, Pippen, Kobe and Shaq...they were the best players of their time

What makes him unique is his ability to play even better. He plays better in the playoffs than in the regular season. If you beat him once, you encouraged him to play even better next time. If his team was led by the opponent, he could "hit the gas" with a series of consecutive points. In the 1998 final, he scored the Bulls' last 6 points and also made a steal. This while the opposing team was focused on him anyway.

As someone from New York, its crazy to me that there aren't really any basketball courts over there for you guys to practice/play on and you have to go to a trampoline place. I know its not super popular over there, but I assumed it was coming along and its pretty popular in Europe. Almost every park here has a court that anyone can use, Basketball is fun, Nick could probably be good if he got some practice since he's tall lol
Also if Jordan was threatening the three ball all the time, it would give him so much space to free up his drives... he would've averaged 40 a game lol

The reason Jordan wore 45 when he came back the first time, was because the Bulls had retired the 23, so it was no longer used for the team. He chose 45 because it was his number when he played baseball as a kid.
He switched back to 23, after a member of the Hornets made a comment that “45 isn’t 23” after they beat Chicago in the first game of their playoff series, and Jordan had a bad game.
The Bulls paid a $145,000 fine to the league to get 23 un-retired, and Jordan wore it from then on.
i watched just about every game growing up in the chicago area. i think he missed a pull up jumper maybe twice lol

I would say his best attribute is his ability to be "clutch" with in the moment! He became a better 3 point shooter as the league evolved same as Bird. Jordan is at least 5 yrs younger than Bird/Magic

One of if not the best finisher ever and had at least a 50 inch vertical jump, 6’6 with hands about as big as Shaq’s, arguably the best midrange scorer ever, arguably the best work-ethic of all-time, probably the most clutch player of all-time, and long arms and big hands allowed him to be a monster on the defensive end. He won a Defensive Player of the Year award and he’s a SG, you can count on one hand how many times that’s happened in the history of the NBA. It’s almost always Big-men that win that award.
To put his leaping ability into perspective, the best leapers ever (LeBron, Derrick Rose, Vince Carter) had between a 40-50 inch vertical. A 40 inch vertical is considered top of the NBA. Jordan was in another stratosphere entirely.
The real magic is, he did this playing against the toughest defenses in modern baskebtall. Pre hand hand check. A player could have their arm on you at all times (except obviously hands on arms etc. during shots. Others would argue the zone rule was not in place for Jordan but we know statistically, this hasn't had the same impact. Percent of 50 plus games from perimeter players has SKYROCKETED since Jordan played.
Chicago is in the Eastern conference so the games they talked about against Detroit were Conference finals not Nba finals. The NBA finals they only faced LA, Portland and Utah.// and maybe phoenix.. not sure. In game one of the finals against Portland he rained down threes in the first quarter... famously shrugging his shoulders about how easy it was.

Jordan was the best in my lifetime and im 45 years old, closest to his mentality was kobe, i still loved bird and the Celtics, even the bad boys because i wanted the east, kobe didn't have Jordan's hops but made up for it with his work ethic and commitment, Phil Jackson gets both and throw in Shaquille, you better win 11 titles
