I did this when I was in a relationship. I had a girlfriend who had a problem with guys liking her and didn’t want to do something like this. No surprise she cheated on me. I pretended to be a friend’s husband for two years once so that guys would leave her alone until the right one came along. Then we told him it was a charade since she had too many creeps pursuing her.

About telling the other person that you are in a relationship. I did that because I got some weird vibes from a guy on the train... then got a 20min lecture on how arrogant and deluded I was for thinking he was interested in me. It is not always easy to drop the "I am taken" line, especially if the person you are talking to turns out to be deranged and potentially dangerous.
Instead of sliding it in like “I’m taken” slide it in as if it’s part of normal conversation. “My boyfriend took me to ____ restaurant last time we were there. You should check it out. It’s so good!”
If they mention their interests you could casually be like “my partner loves that!” Or “my partner and I have been looking into doing that recently!”
Men have literally killed for actual OR PERCEIVED rejection. Murdered. Or even more commonly, assaulted or harmed. Or stalked. It's not that simple when you face the dice roll of retaliation, and you're just trying to live your day and get a bagel.
That guy was interested in you and just acted crazy when you said something about it. It's manipulation.

Exactly. Mine is a once in a lifetime sunrise on commute to work. It's even framed and hanging on my wall. The whole train was turning heads when seeing this beautiful scene. Literally everybody. So, no partner will ever replace that picture 🙃

That's exactly what I'm saying. My screensaver is Attack on Titan. This might be presumptuous of me, but if someone has their partner as their screensavor, their identity is likely wrapped up in being a girlfriend/boyfriend and they are codependent. That is NOT healthy.
The girl from the plane is Psycho. He didn’t wait too long to mention his gf, he mentioned her when he finally realized the girl was showing interest in him. It’s okay to just have a casual conversation with someone specially if you’re sitting next to them for like 5-7 hrs. Then she saying that she thought it was their love story? @@tatianadelgado4867guys don’t look at it the same way. They don’t all go out thinking they are God’s gift or try to read into behavior. My husband is completely oblivious to women moving in the shadows. He doesn’t play games so it confuses him when people don’t interpret or behave plainly. I mean, one of his first questions was “are you or have you ever been a man?”. To be fair he was drunk but that only means slightly less filter than usual. He was so surprised I was interested because his friend was “hotter” (but vapid) that he hadn’t really rehearsed anything.

Absolutely, that's crazy, I've been married for 24 years, there are many conversations I have with thr opposite sex that I never bring up my husband or that I'm involved. What, are people just supposed to open every conversation like "hi im so n so and I am in a relationship!" I think there's definitely ways to very subtly slip it into conversation IF you pick up early on enough that the person may be interested, but he might not have. I don't think he deserved all the flack he got.

That airplane guy got harassed big time like theres a fine line between "Hey i dont wanna lead you on, i have a girlfriend." Inserted in a conversation and "im going to automatically assume the only reason youre talking with me all friendly is cause youre interested."

I can be pretty clueless about it sometimes. Especially if it's not extremely obvious. But I've made it a general rule of thumb to mention my significant other at least within the first 10 minutes of conversation. I don't necessarily say flat out I have a boyfriend/girlfriend but I mention something we did together recently or something we both enjoy. I do this because I've been in a few situations where they make it obvious or make their move and I realize all the signs I missed I apologize and they still get upset with me. I hate confrontation so I just put it out there for them to make a mental note on and if they continue the conversation with me afterwards then they wanted a genuine friend or someone to talk and if they don't then it wasn't worth continuing the conversation anyway because they were looking for something more then I was able to give.
See not only am I oblivious to people flirting with me, and just genuinely think people are being nice! I also, get worried that if I say that I have a partner too soon they are going to think that I am being one of those snobby girls that just yells "I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND/PARTNER!!" just to get them to stop talking. So how do I find the balance?
I remember one time I met this really nice guy at the station one evening and we got to chatting. We were headed the same way, so continued our conversation on the train. While this is going on and we’re both asking each friendly questions, he casually mentions his wife in relation to something I said. You know what I did? I continued the conversation in a friendly manner and let go of the hopes I had of a potential new relationship with the guy, and remained perfectly civil for the rest of the train ride. That should be the reaction because just because someone is talking to you does not mean that they necessarily flirting. Don’t make assumptions.

People who say they fall in love with a complete stranger within minutes or hours raise red flags for me. Seems like a toxic trait and have never seen or heard of a healthy relationship starting like that. That dude probably made up having a girlfriend after realizing the lady was crazy. You can find thousands of videos like the one above or even actual videos of the accounts all over the internet and the public shaming. In my experience I have found many males have been the victims of abuse and it not taken seriously. My opinions are solely based on experiences of consolation of people because of my job. The vintage Beyoncé clip totally hit my funny bone. 😂 In 2016, when my mom (92) was still alive, my daughter and grandson were visiting her at the care home. Aiden had taken his guitar and was playing her a song when I arrived. She couldn’t hear very well but she loved watching him. I was talking to this guy on the commuter train for weeks. When I finally asked if he and his girlfriend did something together. I was fishing to see his reaction. He could have denied being in a relationship. He was quiet for a minute and said that yes, he and xxx did whatever together. His speech started included 'We' instead of I, me, my. He was trying to hide his relationship and put himself forward as single and available.
That plane chick was crazy. period.

When my late husband and I first met one of the things I liked most about him was that he told me he had a girlfriend back home (we lived on different continents) within the first 15 minutes, so we were just friends. It was 16 years later before we got together. After 12 years of marriage we weren't each other's screensaver, but he was my lobster and I miss him every day.

Honestly, it's possible it just took the guy on the plane that long to realise that the girl was interested in him. Some of us are just that oblivious lol. Years ago, a guy stopped by my kiosk during my shift and started asking me about music. I got excited cos at the time I didn't know many people who were also metalheads (small town) so I was totally into the conversation. When he finally walked away, he said "sorry if you have a boyfriend" and I couldn't have been more confused lol. I thought we were just talking about music 😅
So part of me also feels like he took that long because men don't necessarily have to jump to excuses to exit conversations safely. Not in the same way women do. So yeah, I feel like he just really hadn't thought about it in the beginning. Also he declined the second drink. Yeah, I am often oblivious to flirting and wouldn't know someone was interested in me unless they outright said so. If, somehow, I thought that maybe they were interested and I was in a relationship I would be too worried to be wrong and come off as being arrogant to randomly bring it up.

It's actually kind of a good sign if he takes friendly behavior at face value as friendly. Even if it's a little more than friendly. It's a weird position as a guy if you guess "flirting" and it's not, too many men have been creepy and it can sour the atmosphere real quick to let on that that's what you think it is

Not only have I told guys I had a boyfriend at times when I didn’t, but sometimes guys just didn’t care so I wore an actual wedding band or engagement ring to work and would tell guys who asked that I was married and engaged. Sometimes that still didn’t stop them, but it did for the most part. I wasn’t interested in dating someone who would ask out girls at places they couldn’t exactly leave to get away from them (aka: their jobs!)

For my 50th birthday I bought myself a shirt with the words: Original parts Vintage, and the year I was born (which I won't put here on CZcams), because I think Vintage is a nicer way of saying old. This way I could get one step ahead of the "old" jokes and I could say "I'm not old, I'm vintage" in a classy, funny way. It was so fun wearing the shirt on karaoke night! The funniest part was that another lady showed up wearing the same shirt! We got our picture taken together. It was awesome!

I don't like saying "I have a boyfriend" unprompted because it sounds like you think they're flirting and you don't want to be wrong. So I typically find a way to mention "oh my partner likes that too" or something similar. Then they can find a casual way to leave the conversation without either of us feeling super awkward by the admission.

One thing I've learned about watching my fiance (whose also has a long scar across his forehead from a wreck last October... Head injury) interact with women at the tire shop, I've seen the other guys have to go tell him some times before he realizes that a woman was flirting with him, and then others I'm watching this woman throw everything that would've worked on her past guys at him and he just goes on with a conversation like they were talking about the weather. I do get jealous at these a lot of times mostly the fact that the women who try it, have seen him with me just a week before when they were in the shop fixing a flat.
In a guy's mind (the good ones) they know they have one woman, that one woman is the one that they solely want, now after that they just like to talk, and their dad's taught them to treat women with respect.... So as much as we may hate that guys are friendly with us girls, and we mistaken it for them flirting, just remember, they learned exactly how to treat a woman by watching how dad treated mom, and they go from there 😂😂😂

I was on a walking trail with a friend and some real tough, big dudes were off to the side, huddled in a circle. We were a little nervous as we were young women, alone and there were more of them than us. We were just about to pass them by when one of them backs out of the circle, throws something down and goes, "Man, I'm not playing no more Uno if you won't put some money on it!" We all just started laughing hahaha

How many women do the same if the roles were reversed? And then women usually get pissed off when the guy is offended by being rejected. This is the same story only the other way around. Whenever kids try to make me feel old, I just remind myself that I had a genuine, happy childhood. One that wasn't ruled by social media peer pressure. And I just pity them, honestly. I can't imagine growing up in today's world.

@@nikispade1350 Exactly! My 10 year old niece has started making voice overs for cartoons, like Peppa Pig. She enjoys it, but you can barely get her to step outside. She says it's boring. It's almost like kids don't know how to use their imagination anymore. It's upsetting. We were always outside when growing up.

But there's nothing wrong with aging, many things become easier with age and its easy to forget all the hardships that come with growing up. You always lose some but also gain some, i think one of the best things about getting older is that to be able to laugh at comments like this and to think like yeah, i really am kinda old for this shit but i dont even care because im an adult now and kids opinions of me won't form my whole perception of me anymore.
