  • r/AmITheA**hole In today's episode, OP is forced into being the best man for his friend and an incredibly toxic bride. The bride tries to micromanage OP's life and control his girlfriend's body. The bride actually demands that OP's girlfriend wear a frumpy dress to hide her pregnancy, because the bride doesn't want the pregnancy stealing attention from her wedding. So, OP decides to ruin the wedding by trashing on the couple during his best man speech. Is he the butthole in this situation?

      @@benjiro8793 So true... I knew a guy at work who had an emotionally abusive girlfriend for 4 years... She would ignore the fact they were dating then love bomb the heck out of him. He also told me of the time they did have a break and she brought a guy over and passionately hugged him loudly in the other room... She was a real piece of something... I asked why he didn't just leave and his only defence was the time he had already put in and not wanting to start over... sadly he was only like 20 when he said this to me and I'm like that is too young to lock it down... @@skyeplays1772 yes bleach is aggressive. If used improperly or even properly and for too long, it can cause hair falling out and/or breaking off as well as chemical burns. It essentially breaks apart your hair protein to remove color, so when it's done your hair is left significantly lighter but a lot weaker as well. Hair dyes, especially those like arctic fox aren't taking anything away from hair and will wash out with regular shampoo over time. Arctic Fox even has an added conditioner so you can leave it on as long as you like without damaging it.

    • @Amarianee
      @Amarianee Pƙed 3 lety +7

      @@skyeplays1772 Yes. Bleach is a mixture of extremely potent hydrogen peroxide and other nasty chemicals to break down the bonds of your hair shaft and strip the color out. Most _permanent_ box hair dyes have similar chemicals like ammonia to help deposit the colour, even if the hair hasn't been bleached. Those types of chemicals, obviously, cause permanent damage. Everything past the root of your hair strand is already dead, so there's no fixing it once you've used ammonia or peroxide on it. Semi permanent dyes, like Arctic Fox, don't have any of those chemicals, they deposit colour only. That's why people will usually bleach their hair first, for a brighter colour, but it's not necessary. Semi-permanent dyes don't last as long as permanent for this same reason; you're just putting colour on top of the strand, rather than breaking down the outside to deposit it in the shaft. Bleach can also cause very serious damage to the scalp, depending on the person and how long it's left on, because peroxide is a skin irritant. OP's comparison is pretty spot on. Bleach would be the permanent tattoo, the Arctic Fox dye would be the stick on.

Since the daugther is only 11, she really shouden't have done that, because the skin is still too sensitive at this age. I don't know about other countires, but where I live you can only dye & bleach starting at the age of 16, because the chance of an allergic reaction is just too great.

      Eye for an eye => Doing the same to the person that mistreated you.
      Fire with Fire => Removing the goal of the other person with any means.
      To fight fire with fire, won't make you even, it won't remove the unfair events, it just robs the entitled assholes of their success, and hopefully their will to try shit like that again.

    For the last story I think the grandma is terrible. I regularly bleach my hair and put in semi-permanent dye like arctic fox (I prefer joico) and those two processes are completely different. Semi-permanent dyes are just conditioners with pigments mixed in so they stain the hair but don't go into the hair shaft. This means your hair stays healthy and look even shinier than before. Bleach opens up the hair shaft to remove pigment which can leave the hair massively damaged if done incorrectly and difficult for even professionals to fix. Not to mention bleach can cause serious scalp irritation! I can't believe that grandma. This is a big deal and anyone who doesn't think so should ask her to bleach their hair and see what they think of her good intentions then.

      I'm grateful that she didn't bleach all the way down to the roots cause A) bleaching burns since it's chemicals stripping out pigments and the granddaughter probably won't expect the burn since she's never had bleached hair before, and B) she's obviously using a too high bleach solution or left in the bleach for too long, which I doubt since the blue isn't out of the hair, considering the granddaughters damaged hair.

    the bleached hair daughter: using the arctic fox types of hairdye on top won't damage the hair more but the hair being porous means the colour will stay on longer. I'd say the dad should take the time until the hair grows and is all cut to dye the daughter's hair with even brighter colours just to annoy the grandma. And that way the little girl might like her hair again.

    That one story about the yelling dad brought flashbacks. My dad would scream at me if I got a low grade. He would give me a list of chores to do that would take all day and then yell at me "for not taking initiative and doing more". Although now we are good friends and I personally don't blame him, because I learned what he had to go through. His parents were much worse. They would yell at him for the same reasons, but unlike my dad that would stop after, they would take turns beating him sometimes until he started bleeding. He thought that was normal, however he told himself at the same time that he would never hit his kids. With the help of my mom he never did. He did everything he could to break the cycle of abuse, but sometimes it would slip out.

No, I've decided that while you're under my roof this rule shall apply to the both of you, and the way I see it is, you've got 1 of 3 solutions to this problem

These may be reasons why he didn't speak up before giving the speech. He probably needs some therapy to help his self-esteem and to speak assertively and not aggressively. I get wife is willing to eat whatever, but what if she couldn't eat something cause it would make her throw up? Would bride get pissy with her then too for having the nerve to get sick and "showcase" her pregnancy at the wedding?
