Why is it always okay for someone else's kids to break stuff and never have any consequences? I was a kid too and I never asked people to pull down their heirlooms and antiques so I could look or play with them. I was very conscious of how delicate old stuff could be. Or of how much it meant to the person. My 2 cousins never catch any flak for wrecking my things. Sometimes I don't even get a warning when they're being brought over. It's been just short a week that *a whole year ago* one of them shattered a Buzz Lightyear that I've had since I was like 5 or 6. Took me at least 3 months to pick up the pieces and solder a new battery compartment in. And did they feel bad? For all of 2 minutes. Did I ever get a *real* apology or any kind of repayment? Nope. Not even the $20 it cost to order a similar model off eBay to swap parts with. Not even an offer from their electronically skilled father to solder the connections back. And it's not like they ever get punished for disobeying what I say. If I tell them to leave something alone then it's, at best, a suggestion. What am I expected to do? Cram half the house into the other rooms and build a wall to keep the brats safe and sound in one room with nothing they could possibly damage? They never listen to me and the oldest girl used to use the excuse "You're just a kid, too. So I don't have to listen to you". *BITCH I'M 23 AND I'VE GOT MULTIPLE DEGREES* . She'll never punish them for not listening to me, and yet I'm still expected to keep them alive. How can I do that when they'll just run out into traffic just to spite me? Let's not even factor in that I'm an artist, and not everything I own can even be replaced.
I love those two to death, and I'd love to give them the world. I've custom made things and fixed broken toys. Even gone out of the way to get them stuff special, just how they want. Omg, I know exactly what you mean! I've got a cousin who was born when I was fourteen (there's a pretty good age gap between my mom and my aunt because of how young my grandma was when she had my mom.) Anyway, my older cousin (born when I was nine,) would always get in trouble, always the one blamed, etc. But the younger one? Oh, absolutely not! Total golden child. Could do no wrong, and even if he did, "well, he's just a little kid, you need to make allowances for him." Yeah, uh, no. F*ck that! He ripped in half a chess/checkers board I had that I'd gotten as a kid, and he did that as a four year old. Then, icing on the cake, not only did he *know* that he did something wrong, he then hid the box, board, and pieces under the couch in our living room. When I finally found it the next day, I was pissed, and expected him to receive some kind of consequences, but did he? Of course not! Instead, I get told, "Well, if you don't want him touching your stuff, why did you leave it where he could get to it?"
Also, this was *years* ago, he's now in his twenties, has a completely entitled, bratty, "I'm never wrong" attitude, and has abused at least one girlfriend of his. So yeah. Parents need to enforce consequences.

That college one hit a little close to home for me. My grandparents set up individual college funds for all the grandkids so we'd have college paid for. They'd send us money every semester growing up to add to the accounts. I always told my mom to put my birthday money toward college, my brother just kept his cash. Turns out my parents were SPLITTING MY MONEY into both mine and my brothers accounts so he wouldn't be screwed for college. When my grandpa saw that I was only depositing half, he asked me why, I said I wasn't. He talked to my dad, turns out my mom wasn't even telling my dad about it. My dad moved the money back to mine, thank God. We ended up setting up a second private account from my mom because when I was in college she was using *my* account to fund her shopping "because you have a half ride, you don't need all this money" ... Sued and won against her theft, used the extra money for my honeymoon

With the one about the kids breaking the clock, I personally think it's the kids fault. OP's sister left the kids there after OP reluctantly agreed. OP didn't even want to watch the kids in the first place, but was basically forced to. OP had to do some work in the study for a little bit, so they were busy and thought the kids would be fine to be left alone in a room for a little bit. Yeah, they're kids and mess around, but they shouldn't be touching something that expensive when it isn't theirs, and they didn't ask to touch it. OP is childless by choice, so they have a prized possession that wouldn't get broken by them, only for it to get smashed to bits when their sister's kids come over. I would be pissed too if I was OP! The kids parents need to own up to what their kids did, and pay for the clock, or how much it was worth. The parents didn't want to watch their own kids, so what makes them think that someone *who doesn't have kids* wants to watch someones kids? Feel free to disagree with me though, that's just my opinion.

The clock was 1000USD. Also, the sister probably should've left some notes for OP since they don't know HOW TO TAKE CARE OF KIDS. And this ladies and gentlemen is exactly what is wrong with our world today. Those kids were old enough to take that clock off of the mantle and even being mentally mature enough to fight over it then guess what? They are plenty freaking old enough to know better and to be taught not to disrespect and or even touch other people's things without permission. But of course we have entitled parents who do not care enough to teach their little brats right from wrong and any amount of respect. my opinion is you need to teach and discipline your children from a young age or guess what's going to happen, when they get older like teenage years to young adults years, someone else is going to come along and beat the shit out of your kid in attempts to discipline them themselves because your hellish child still thinks the world revolves around them and wrongs the wrong person one too many times.

Now does that make it right? No, but I think Rslash point is being misinterpreted while also he said badly. Obviously the kids are to blame, but leaving a bunch of children to their own devices when the parents gave you them for the sole purpose of watching them, should give you red flags as they're prone to bad behavior and obviously needs supervision and you should prepare to do so. So while I do agree the kids have blood on their hands, OP was asking for it and should be both angry at the parents and their own negligence while also the broken clock. Now I dont blame them wanting a replacement clock or sueing, as that's targeting the real culprits the parents for their lack of behaviorally parenting for their kids but OP still seems very vindictive towards the kids even before the incident.

I feel that she’s totally right for being upset about her sister having (evidentially) unprotected sex with a bunch of guys and be condescending about it. OP is entitled to her inheritance. If she wanted the money, OP’s sister would’ve been more careful or maintained abstinence like OP. She’s not upset she had sex- she’s upset she had sex and won’t take responsibility for her actions, stealing OP’s future for her own selfish choice.

He threw me a little bday party when he learned I’d never had a party growing up. I genuinely thought he was my best friend. It never occurred to me that he was into me since he KNEW I was gay AND seeing someone. I still shudder thinking about how one time we had had dinner and were watching a movie. I had fallen asleep and woke up to him crawling on top of me and I freaked and pushed him away. He got defensive and said he spoiled me with the party and food so I owed it to him. When I ran out crying and scared (I’ve been raped before) I ran into his sister who had just come home and she said she and the whole family thought we were dating and I was a prude to make him wait. I ended up calling and Uber and avoiding him.
The next time I went to work, I was talking with a coworker and they asked me why I broke up with him. I asked them why did everyone think we were dating? I wasn’t exactly hiding my sexuality with my pride lanyard and My lesbian apron with the pride colors. Apprently my whole work place thought we were dating. I soon left that place for reasons beyond that. But it was so hard picking up orders from the kitchen and seeing his face.

The college fund one really bothers me. My grandmother, who had been giving money to my parents to take care of us our entire lives, passed away. The stipulation in her will was that each child would receive at least 40K to cover the entirety of our schooling, our first car and go to a deposit on our first house when combined with our existing college fund. This is after she turned over everything from the sale of her summer home and her own home to my parents, plus the rent she paid them to live in a single room of our house. She gave them about 2-4 million dollars over the course of her life and it all just disappeared. My dad decided to play the stock markets with our college funds, which are bonded by the government here. Not only did he completely drain the 25K in each of our accounts, but he ended up owing money on them, too. My oldest brother managed to get his first car partially covered by my mom out of her own pocket to make up for it as well as cover the deposit on his first house since he got a full ride scholarship for school. The rest of us weren't so lucky.
I ended up paying for my own schooling using whatever I could scrimp and save. My mom had a joint student account with me and annoyingly, she would give access to my dad, who would then use the funds I put into it for more attempts to play the stock market all without telling me. I would get gaslighted by both of them when I would claim to have a certain balance, but it somehow conveniently disappeared and I must have imagined the bank balance despite statements from the bank saying otherwise. I lost about 40K like this before I wised up.
Finally, just before my mother passed away, she told me how much she regretted letting my father control us through the family finances and she should've kept all accounts separate and used the money from her parents for the things they were intended to cover instead of my dad's attempts to live above his means and gamble with stocks (regular international vacations, going out with his office for dinner and then paying for everyone's meals, random jewelry, paying off credit cards with other credit cards, etc.). She told me that she had written a will leaving everything that she had and had kept from her mother's estate to us kids, cutting my dad off entirely. My sister was named the executor and shortly after that she passed away. Only then we couldn't find the will. My dad first said that he had it and would give it to my sister "when he was ready," which dragged on for weeks and months. Then he claimed there was no will and finally that there was a will, but it left everything to him and no, we couldn't see it because it was none of our business. He said he "executed" the will when he gave all of us some of my mother's old jewelry, but none of her most valuable ones, just cheap plastic that he had bought her and she never even wore. Even the boys were expected to take jewelry for girlfriends and wives and just be happy with that. We eventually gave up because the will is almost definitely destroyed at this point. I never saw it and even though I have written messages from her, those will hardly stand up in a court. It's been heartbreaking.
We then found out that he had made her last months completely miserable. He let another woman and her kid move into the house without even talking to her. The woman was married, but separated from her husband, not that it seemed to matter much to them. I regularly caught them snuggling around the house. They would always spring apart when they noticed me, but clearly, there were guilty consciences at play. My mother slept in my grandmother's old room, while the new woman slept upstairs, ostensibly in her own room, but down the hall from my dad. They would be up at all hours, cuddling on the couch in plan view of anyone walking through the main floor of the house. I don't know if things ever got sexual between them, but he was clearly emotionally cheating on her. I suspect she saw something that made her cut him out of her will rather than go through a messy divorce when her health had never been good. She told me that we had to protect the will because if my father had it, everything she had would end up with him regardless.
tl;dr my father pulled this crap with multiple wills and college funds and left us with nothing, including a lot of our own savings

Unpopular opinion: the childfree sitter story - when someone says no to a request to watch your kids, find another sitter or deal with it yourself. I feel like there is an inherent entitlement of people with kids towards childfree ppl, everyone expected to chip in and help, especially when it's "faaaaaaaaaamilyyyy". Not a butthole. The no supervision thing is bad yes but how the blip was the person even trained for something like it not having or wanting the kids him/herself? And why should a hard working person jeopardize the quiet evening they deserve? No one said how close the family members were, badgering family members into surprise babysitting is not okay, emergency or not. Deffo should apologize and pay back for damaged property. Entitled parents all the way.

Faith Mouse I don’t know where OP lives but, and where I lived(I’m not American either), there is some basic trust that a handful of children, with one nearing 10, can be left alone at intervals, especially when watching a movie. Heck, growing up I’ve been with groups of lower age ranges that still didn’t dare touch someone else’s property while they were guests. So, upbringing is a factor here. This person might by an immediate relative, but is a stranger that has had almost zero interaction with you, so even as a kid, you wouldn’t be too comfortable.
So yeah, I disagree with rSlash absolving the kids of blame. Kids aren’t legally blamable, but psychologically, they are. Responsibility is one of the earliest teachings you receive, and that mistakes have repercussions. This is why discipline and self-discipline are core parts of childhood. OP overreacted, sure, and didn’t take enough care, but the kids being innocent is not an excuse to not reprimand them.
That said, OP doesn’t like kids in general and clearly has no awareness of them, treating them like some different species. For one thing, you simply don’t leave children with such a person, you risk them actually putting the kids in danger. Second, if you hate kids in a non-sarcastic way, you are a butthole regardless.

No. Because it is his face, and he has to decide for himself what he finds comfortable. He is my partner, not my dog. I don't get to decide what he wears or how he styles himself; I picked him as a partner because I love him, the person he is. He is an amazing person, and I adore him. So, beard or not beard, that's the smallest issue. And yes, he does cook for me; but I always, always thank him and show my appreciation for his hard work. Because I appreciate him!
So I disagree with your argument. The guy in the story has no right to get mad at his girlfriend for wanting to change up her looks and get some color in her hair. And he definitely should have a more respectful tone when talking about her cooking and cleaning for him; be a little appreciative and realize that a relationship should involve two people doing equal the work to maintain the relationship and the house. If two people really love each other, there should be mutual respect. He doesn't own her body, and if he absolutely hates her hair more than he loves her; then maybe he should have just ended the relationship in a respectful manner.

You would think that someone realizing this about themselves and NOT becoming a bad parent would be celebrated. It's not.Lots of extended families, like this one evidently, look down on childless members and talk a lot of smack about them, and then presume that since they're childless, they've nothing better to do than be free babysitters. I get the feeling that there was a lot of that in OP's family. Then the sister just shows up out of nowhere and insists that she's dumping them off no matter what OP's objections are? What if OP had something very important scheduled And? And their obviously ill behaved kids cause significant monetary damage to OP's property and the parents just wave it off and assume OP will just eat the costs? @@GiordanDiodato I mean OP had work to do and told the mother a couple of times already that he/she can't. Family emergency or not. The kids are kids yeah, stuff can be broken sure. What they had to do was make the kids apologize, cover for damages and don't act like shit towards OP. OP has every right to sue for damages. The kids and parents are just entitled.

It's just as cute to get a boyfriend to pay for everything as it is for the girlfriend to get slapped around when she speaks out of turn. -_-
This perpetuates the most disgusting of sexist behaviours.

    • @Chromodar
      @Chromodar Pƙed 4 lety +4

I don't think that comparison works out. "Slapping someone around" is assault and battery. It's literally illegal.
The comparison implied in the video is better.. "If you love me you will give me that thing I want" - Woman pointing at expensive item, man pointing at woman's crotch.
That's the exact same logic. It should be way easier for a woman to understand it's flaws when she's on the receiving end of the demands.

The other edits r/Slash didn’t include for that clock story:
Edit : Allow me to tell you exactly why my relationship with my sister is strained. It's because my sister has always been jealous of my success. For example, last year, I took a vacation to Spain and posted about it on Facebook. My sister is a housewife and her hubby had just lost his job. Apparently they were really struggling financially. Sis called me and berated me for having fun with MY hard earned money and flaunting it when they didn't know if they'd make it to the next month with having to ask family for help. She also expected me to offer her some cash, because "family". When I told her that her and her husband would be better off if they had fewer kids, she actually got angry and yelled at me. This is just one example of my sister's entitlement.

Some of you said I shouldn't have left the kids alone. Well, before I left, I told them very clearly to keep their hands off of my stuff.

Edit 2 : My mom just let me know that sister's BIL will be fine. He was driving under influence and has a dislocated shoulder and two broken ribs.

I think the story withthe kids and the clock the op isn't an ass. He literally said no to them a thousand times snd they still made him do it, they could've driven their children to their grandparents house or one of those playgrounds where you have to pay money and it has supervision, until somebody else could come oick them up. The parents seem entitled to me in this situation and this is coming from a teen girl who makes money from babysitting. Its not an easy job. Not everyone can do it or know how to do it
