r/Entitledparents Karen Thought I Contaminated the Ocean with Vitiligo

  • r/Entitledparents In today's post, OP is a young teen who has vitiligo. OP goes on vacation with her family and has a truly unfortunate encounter with a Karen at the beach. The Karen says that OP is traumatizing her child because of OP's skin condition. When OP plays at the beach, this Karen is dumb enough to think that OP is contaminating the entire ocean with her vitiligo. Imagine scolding a child who isn't even yours just because they have a skin condition.

Growing up with vitiligo that's been rather interesting. In the past I've had rude people ask me about my skin condition not in the nicest way. I Remember when I was 18 this lady asked me what happened to your skin did you burn yourself? Me being a smart-ass I responded yes indeed I I burnt myself in a fire trying to save a 6 month old baby. Lady didn't know how to respond to that. The funny thing is that we were in the public transportation and I kind of scold her about it, telling her it's not polite to be pointing out people's physical defects. I told her it would be like me pointing out that she's 100 pounds overweight . But I keep those comments to myself it's none of my business how obese you are. The face that this lady made was priceless

Have it myself, it runs in the family. It comes and goes with time at my body, but my grandma and my uncle have it everywhere. They can not make it unseen. I have to say, that I never met anyone who was disgusted by it. Some people just ask, because it looks interesting. I live in Germany, maybe the people here are simply not that bothered by it. When I explained it, people always tend to be like "Ok, thatÂŽs how it is, letÂŽs go on with life."

Well, the entitlement portion of the story comes from the fact the MIL demanded $5,000 that she was no longer entitled to because she realized she was losing her chances to get free money and when they refused to give it to her, she basically made it so they lived on the street. She didn't care if they got raped, attacked, killed, etc, she just wanted her money. That's all she cared about. So it's kind of both Entitled and Insane parent.
Dunno how she expected them to even come up with enough money to pay her when she's forcing them to live in hotels and on the street where keeping a job is insanely difficult. But that's entitled and insane parents for you, they don't have enough braincells to think 5 steps ahead of the current moment they live in.

I’ve never fully understood why others can be so cruel to those who look different from them, when people with vitiligo, albinism, lots of freckles, birthmarks, or moles are beautiful and unique. There’s been much more acceptance for those physical traits now a days, which I’m glad for. I’ve never seen those people as ugly or wrong, just unique and beautiful. Everyone is a piece of art, with their own style and skin and face, and that should be celebrated. If I ran into Op when on vacation, I would probably end up asking them if I could draw them, because meeting someone so beautiful in real life is a moment I’d like to capture. That and because from the post, OP seemed to be really insecure, and I’d be happy to ramble bout how beautiful they are.
Currently I dress in an alt style(as much as I can), and I dye my hair very bright colors. If someone stares, it’s not cause I look bad, it’s cause I’m eye catching and beautiful, and that’s something I really want to make sure others know. Next time you see someone in alt fashion, or with dyed hair, or skin that isn’t perfectly smooth or one color, tell them they look good, complement them, smile at them, ask where they got that amazing *insert bag, outfit, nail polish, etc * and wish them a good day. Everyone deserves to know they look amazing and feel confident in their skin, and saying that helps a lot when jerks like that Karen decide to get pissy over nothing.

The fourth OP actually has.another story:
This happened about 2 years ago, however I was reminded of this encounter by a recent post, which was about Karen going nuts about someone wearing shorts.
I'd like to preface it by saying that I have a vitiligo, which at the time wasn't spread as much as it is now (notably face), and the time I have just recently fully recovered from an accident which has left me with one huge and several smaller scars across my entire left arm, all of them most likely lifelong. All of this was completely covered by the slightly oversized hoodie. I guess you can see where this is going.
Side note: I (F, 18 as of now) have been (and still am) given a ton of crap about the skin condition and the scarring, so it kind of wasn't out of ordinary for me. However today, I'd say I'm pretty proud of it. The hoodie was a metal band merch, I don't remember which one though, probably Iron Maiden.
Onto the story of my malicious compliance. Please keep in mind that this happened 2 years ago, so something might and will be off.
I was at my local privately owned grocery shop to do some shopping. I was minding my own business, when Karen and her kid (could've been 9) passed around me. At first she didn't say anything.
Then, some time again, I saw her again. This time I wasn't so fortunate though.
Karen: ,,Ahem, do you think it's appropriate to walk around wearing that satanic thing and possibly traumatising children with that image?"
    Me: ,,I'm sorry?"
Karen: ,,You have to take it off!"
Me: ,,I don't understand why, but I'd rather not."
Karen: ,,Just take that satanic thing off and don't be so disrespectful!"
    K: begging to go
Me: ,,I'm sorry, but that won't be possible for personal reasons, and besides, I don't have to listen to strangers."
Karen: ,,Yes, you have to listen to the elders! Now take it off!"
I somehow thought that it would be a idea to actually comply. I took the hoodie off, unveiling the results of my skin going through identity crisis and me being a clumsy idiot.
Karen: mix of disgusted, taken aback and dumbfounded face
Me: ,,Told you I have reasons."
Karen: ,,What the fuck is that! (to her kid) Don't look honey!"
Me: ,,So I guess I should put it back on?"
Enter the store worker - SW
    SW: ,,Is there a problem?"
Karen: ,,Yes! To have to kick this satanist out!"
Me, now with the hoodie back on: ,,Actually, you should kick HER out for harassing others over what they wear."
Karen: ,,Shut up you disgusting bitch!"
SW to me: ,,May I ask what happened?"
Karen: "She was wearing this disgusting thing, then she took it off to scare my sweet angel with her disgusting satanic scars and whatever that other thing is!"
Me: "Actually, you told me to take it off and didn't heed my warning."
Karen: ,,Shut up! I don't even understand how could someone do that to themselves!"
Me: ,,Please ma'am, I didn't do this to myself, it's not my fault!" tearing up
    SW: attempts to say something
Karen: ,,Don't lie to me you little disgusting bitch! I bet no one likes you, so you do this to yourself!"
Since I've been bullied to hell and back because of the vitiligo, this hurt like hell and I snapped.
Me: ,,Shut up! I bet no one likes you, because you're ugly fat hag that has nothing else to other than insulting others!"
I then ran of and left the shopping cart...with stuff in it...there. I don't know what happened after.
EDIT: Thank you all so much for the support, means a lot to me.

For the story with Vitiligo, I had a crush on a girl with Vitiligo who was absolutely beautiful. She was the pretty unique girl that all the guys wanted and girls were envious to say the least. She had issues with bullies though, mainly the bitchy snobby cheerleaders who think they're God's gift to the world. They bullied her, but she just told them off and had about everybody tell them to piss off.
The cheerleaders became the most hated people in the school because they would rather make enemies and hurtful social media posts. One girl who had a metabolism issue where she couldn't lose weight and was always a bit big, she was the sweetest girl ever, very compassionate and sociable. But she was so sick of the cheerleaders that she actually hit one of them with her car. The cheerleader's parents of course wanted to press charges, but were slapped back with an even bigger lawsuit for the counts against their daughters.
The charges were (from memory), assault on 39 people, sexually assaulting 7 students, 19 accounts of vandalism, 43 cases of blackmail, 6 cases of attempted bribery, 12 cases of forging signatures, 23 accounts of theft of school property (school computers, teacher's personal devices, etc, etc). They were so hated that some of their victims ACTUALLY brainstormed their deaths. But when they messed with Vitiligo and big girls who were popular for their niceness and positivity, they went from being tolerated to absolute estrangement, and people bullied THEM.
You'd be amazed at how they went from snobby, to tattling on EVERYONE WHO GLARED AT THEM. They got brushed aside, teachers and staff were so done with their BS that they just told them: You brought this upon yourselves. Funny how you can dish it but can't take it.
But enough about bullies, let me tell you about Vitiligo girl. I had a major crush on Vitiligo girl, I asked her to a few dances and she said yes, but as friends. Turns out she was lesbian, so guys were obviously hurt by that. But everybody just accepted it and let her be unapologetically, herself.
Big girl was always up for dates and such. (I call her that because she always told people to call her Big Mama, or Biggi, she was awesome! And no I don't have any problems with big people, I'm overweight by 59 pounds) She actually asked ME out. I said yes and we actually dated for about a year. We broke up, not because of issues with each other, but that we wanted to do different things in life, we had different goals and ambitions. We parted as friends and we still talk and hang out, even after us graduating and heading out to college and the workforce(s)
So yeah rSlash, I agree with you. People with Vitiligo are very beautiful and unique people. That Karen can drop dead, everybody is a beautiful person who just needs that someone who makes them realize that they're so much more.
If anyone read all this, you matter too. You're a beautiful person who deserves a good chance in the world, don't let people belittle you and make fun of your appearance. Be unapologetically, you.

It's probably the only way they can feel even remotely good about themselves. Massive insecurity issues. I mostly pity them.

I've always thought that skin condition was just unique and look cool as hell I don't understand how people can be so mean it's not like the person has any control over it. That same guy when he got older it developed kind of a tic-tac-toe board on his right leg that is kids when they were little would play Tic-Tac-Toe on his leg with washable markers.

His skin pigment actually started to come back, and it was a total shocker. Sadly we have no idea when the medication will be released, but there is good news for those with vitiligo as it was thought to be incurable or untreatable.

I had a sign language counselor in primary affected with vitiligo. I seemed to have been a bit slower in development in speaking skills. As it was so far back, I do not have any recollection on my initial reaction to his condition, though I do remember bit and pieces of simple curiosity. My parents approved of him greatly, gifting him much of my sign language materials as my verbal skills began to catch back up with my general age group for any families in major financial strain, (I now have absolutely no memory of ASL at this point which I somewhat regret).
That was around 20 years ago, he's retired now spending time to volunteer at a nearby wildlife sanctuary with his wife. I even had the opportunity to work under him again a few years ago as a field intern while in college, as well as attend the occasional lecture given by him with the local historical society. And though the the area affected has increased a somewhat noticeable amount over those two decades, he has always had that same smile and addictive positive outlook on life in nearly everything I have ever seen him put himself working towards. A bit inspiring for a young autistic kid like me back then, and as a young adult like me to this day.

I knew a girl at my school who had vitiligo. We were friends because we were both bullied for the things that made us different (my neurological issues and her vitiligo). The first time I met her I being a curious child asked her about it like "oh your face is so pretty! Is that paint? Can you teach me how to do it?" She nearly cried because everyone at school treated her like shit over it and I didn't. She moved when we were about to enter middle school but wherever she is I hope she loves herself and her skin.
