Thank you so much! I recently saw that you mentioned being in the McNair Program. I’m looking to join next spring while I’m still in undergrads. I wanted to apply this spring but was extremely nervous. Can you share your experience being in the program? I’m currently apart of the TRiO program as well
@@itzkaydayz5408 Awesome! It was great. I got experience doing research for a year under a faculty member/professor. So I had to learn all the steps of how to do professional research. For one summer we stayed on campus to wrap up our projects and at the end of the summer, we presented our research at a national symposium. It was also great to network with other talented students, and a good growth opportunity. It helped me with grad school scholarships too!
@@MindyourSociety thank you so much! My long term goal is to be a Youth advocate and open my own chain of group homes. I see the biggest problem is finding placement for children
I really want to thank you Gabby for providing this video. Especially for those who are having trouble in their field placement and recommended steps to take. My situation didn't end particularly well with my field placement after bringing my concerns to my supervisor and resulted in me almost being removed from the SW program altogether. From someone who has been impacted from this situation please be professional and use interpersonal effectiveness skills. Prior to talking to your supervisor make sure you talk to your field placement professor/coordinator, fellow peers, and advisor for advice. Take care everyone.
Thank you for this! Looking for a job during the pandemic is difficult! I initially planned on looking for work in the summer of 2020, but I had to take care of my family because they had covid. So I put my job search on hold and started in fall of 2020 my search for work. The job market in this pandemic has been hard! I finally will be starting a new job and it’s in macro social work. Macro social work in particular has been harder to find in this pandemic. But micro social work is easier to get work in, but you may be grossly underpaid depending on the field that you go into it.
You are welcome! Yes it can be a challenge. Micro jobs are more evidently available.

Hello, I was wondering if you knew what would be some good internships for someone who is looking to get into the corporate social work field. Thinking of things I should learn that would make me marketable to get into a macro role with a decent pay. I live in Detroit, but my school is open to all virtual internships as well. Thanks for your help and absolutely love your videos!
Hello. Anything that can give you marketing/business or Communications experience. But remember, they are mostly hiring you for your raw social work skills. So any social work experience can open doors for you.
