It is a nice airplane and the name tells it all about itself: an ideal airplane to explore and simulate commercial services between islands like the Bahamas or the caribbean ones. Bought it and I am happy with it, the engine sound is specially beautiful for me.

I try to keep things to the point, focused on the addons or the flight, I'm trying to not overboard people with flash and bs, and just give them what they want... whether its reviews or flights or other content. For reviews, no point filling it with beauty shots, i want people to see what they will see.

A great review of a little known British success story. I fell in love with this aircraft when it was first released (yes I am old) and first flew in one in the Strzelecki Desert in South Australia from a supply base to a remote oil drilling rig. I bought this the moment it was released a couple of days ago and already clocked 6 hours in it. Thank you and great to hear your similar love of the aircraft.

Thank you very much for this excellent review of the BN2 Islander. Your review was very informative and professional. Very balanced critique. Well done. Yes the Islanders may be old and clunky. But are veritable work horses for island hopping. In my real life, not just here in MS Flight Simulator 2020 !, I experienced the Islander as a marvel of its day. Flying in the beautiful scenery in the isles of Scotland. Now I can experience this iconic aircraft in this amazing flight simulator from MS. I have been using Flight Simulator since it’s early ‘98 Edition and onwards. Through all its iterations and updates. Often literally hundreds of Gigabytes of hard drive usage. And here we are now with Asobo who have done an amazingly good job. Of course we are graced with some fantastic hardware nowadays to give us an even more pronounced and an immersive experience. So yes this offering from BlackBox is very good. I do hope they can keep it updated. Yes true, I also have an eye for detail. So let’s hope some of the textures can be improved. By way of an example flying experience for this aircraft I can recommend a short hop in Scotland from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to Stornaway. It’s a gorgeous flight in sunny conditions or towards sunset when you will be graced by beautiful scenery !.. Give it a go, trust me !. Many thanks for this uplifting review. Good luck with your channel. I have now subscribed !. I am hoping you may be able to do some tutorials regarding ILS programming, from basics to flight computer inputs, as this will help many beginners in MS Flight Simulator. Thank you.

Oh the Islander, what a slice of magic that thing is! I love her, my earliest memories of it are going to visit friends in the Scottish Islands, then later when a reservist being in it with seven other fully kitted Marines how tiny it felt, watching hard as nails marines look out at the wings while it rattles lol. Oh I love this, and getting a ride a long (fly a long?) in a police version of this that they used for traffic enforcement and well anything they use a helicopter for it’s just a magical little plane. They’ve done a pretty good job of recreating her too. The look, the model is bang on, the soundscape is just perfect, the textures in places not great but they’ll get fixed I’m sure. As Rachael said this truly is an amazing little plane and you won’t believe where it can get in and out of. Great review Rachael, from yuck to yum in two vids! Brilliant as always my love

Friend of mine used to live on Barra. I never went there to visit him, but when we got together, he'd always tell me about flying from the Scottish mainland to the island on the Islander. It used to land on the beach pretty much.

      @KatherineCracks Před 3 lety +1

@@colderwar yeah Barra is pretty small and no strip but beach landings are way cooler than strips anyway! Good review and good to see it arrive at msfs. This is a really nice plane to fly and it is very undemanding of fps (in fact it is better than the default C172). Flying in VR does show the cockpit textures could be slightly better ie appear more solid. However I'm sure this will come with future updates. A versatile plane that should suit everyone.

I also bought the machine because I already enjoyed flying the Islander in FS2004. "Back then" there was great freeware - in the absence of a large selection of freeware for the FS2020 in terms of aircraft (compared to FS2004 and FSX), it is worth spending the 25 euros. And you really get a great plane with STOL properties, with which you can really land on very short runways. Island hopping takes on a completely different dimension, try St. Barth and Saba (Caribbean).Only the copilot in the backseat looks a little deplaced..;-)

Just one correction: "There haven't really been any good ones made". There are two FANTASTIC payware islanders for Xplane, the Nimbus and the Torquesim (who also sell a separate turbine variant). I have the Nimbus and can honestly say it's the best module I have in any sim (actually it's probably tied with the Thranda DHC-2 Beaver). I'm hesitant to say as I haven't tried this MSFS one, but from what I can see from this video, [Edit: The Nimbus] also seems to beat this one in terms of sounds, little details like cockpit vibrations of those sun shades on the ground and windshield reflections in VR. However people love the Torquesim too.

I misspeak, I refer to the flight sim franchise had never really had one. Never been into xplane myself being from this side of the sim taxiway

@@AvAngel I bought a PC just for MSFS and it turns out a 2070 Super is still not quite powerful enough to run it with decent FPS in VR (bush VFR in a cub is acceptable, city airports in a 787 just falls through the floor). Happily It turns out that Xplane with ORBX looks just as good as MSFS but with decent VR FPS, although sadly you're limited to the ORBX region (it looks horrific with default Xplane scenery). In my case the UK, which kind of defeats the whole 'explore the world' fantasy, but it's a pretty big area, and the hills of Wales/Scotland/Lake District are beautiful to explore. I'm very happy with it, and can recommend if you every want a change from MSFS. Thanks for your review, I'll pick up the BN-2 Islander if I go back to MSFS.

Its equal parts on the CPU and GPU, i have the same card, its ok... but yeah Xplane... eh, not sure, tried it, own it, really hard to get into after years in fs.

I have watched this video twice now. And others on this plane. I had no real reason to buy it because I have so many planes that something always fits the bill. So why did I finally buy it?
Bored. Money in my pocket. And I like me some new planes. how much use it will get is another thing. But since this review I'm sure you know they have fixed the crappy views. But my reason for commenting is this.
She goes up nice. And when flying it is as smooth as if you had your autopilot on. It really is that stable. As you know, many times we get up in the air in a new craft (to us) and she gets s little squirrelly and have to adjust here and there to make it comfortable. And the final reason for commenting is because after flying it I said to myself, "This is one of the most well behaved aircraft I've ever flown".
The only thing I noticed that I didn't like was when I got to full flaps she really wanted to drop out of the sky.
She was smooth, and I recommend her.

I totally agree, though full flaps on this beast will drop you down pretty quick, big and draggy

So in case of a Fire you must wait until the engines have stopped. OK ;0
Adding switches for game stuff which the real aircraft does not have is going too gamey.

Texture work on this very nice aircraft was not done with love.
This is random weathering with no sense for real-life usage/damage.
Plus, too much "normals" influence for the simple paint scratches.
The artists who made this know what I mean. Try harder, please. Hugs!
The "Bird Dog" is my fav plane in MSFS2020. I know you can do way better :D
