Spain can be proud of themselves despite the loss. That was their best performance in this tournament.
I hope, because Morata missed a crucial penalty, the fans spare him. That miss turned the game around. The difference between victory and loss was a clinical finisher. Spain created enough opportunities. If they had a proper, reliable finisher, they'd be staying at Wembley.
If oyarzabum finished that clear chance, they wouldnât have gone to pens
If Spain had a no. 9 like Torres they would have killed the game in normal time
When people will realize that in nowadays football the traditional scorer doesn't exist anymore... besides, I don't see people critizising Immobile as much as Morata, for not making goals.
It's just dumb đ€Šââïž
Morata plays for his offensive midfielders, which are the first options to score.
And scoring against Italy is not easy AT ALL, making those chances is a tough task, because italian defenders are very close always and pestering the guy with the ball. I beg people to use their brain, please. How many goals Italy received against alongside the eurocup?
Saying that Spain didn't pass to the final because they doesn't have a finisher is DUMB
@@JulioLeonFandinho I head you mate and agree Morata does drop deep a lot and help finding spaces and moving the ball. Indeed he doesn't get enough credit for his smart movement and contribution. That being said, he also has a composure problem, shown by his poor chance/goal ratio, don't you agree?

@@thierryhenry674 they are not a bus parking team anymore.but they had to change the style against spain because that was the best way to cope with spain maybe
The strenght of Italy team and italians in general, it's the ability to adapt themselves to different situations and hurdles. This has always been the strenght, not only in football.
Further, even if Spain got ball possession, both teams shot to the target 4 times and Italy one woodwork too. Both teams deserved to win and yes, Italy was lucky: but I've never seen an unlucky winner.
I'd love to see this Spain team with a fully fit Ansu Fati. Can't imagine him spurning some of those chances that Oyarzabal fluffed.
Could say the same for Italy tho with spinazola how would Spain have coped there as he can basically play as an extra man in midfield and forward so would have caused trouble for spaim
@@2smokeyyssolicitor833 Fair point, Azpi would have probably been subbed off after 20 minutes, lol. I should have probably made it more clear that I'm not just talking with the Italy match in mind though, but basically the whole tournament. Thinking back to Sweden and Poland or Croatia and Switzerland, all those matches would go a lot differently if the chances Morata and Moreno fluffed fell to a more clinical player. That said, I hope Spina can make a speedy recovery because I'd love to see him back at his best for the World Cup. Who knows, maybe we'll even get the pleasure of seeing Spain with Fati go up against Italy with Spina :D. Wouldn't that be something?
Spain was also missing sarabia though. I get your point but overall this spain team was missing more players than the italy team
Spain didnst miss just Sarabia. They missed Fati, Aspas, Ramos (Who could have scored the pen)
Spain Played the best game of the tournament as only Spain can do. Italy was "fortunate" to advance to the finals, but I doubt England or Denmark will play precisely like Spain. Italy will be back to play as they did in the tournament so far. It has been a great match played by two great Teams. Honour them for the fantastic football played on the field.

When you plan with a false 9 your wingers should have the ability to finish it like a striker...which Spain lacked...
So true.
Yes, just like Liverpool before the last season.
I think it's the actual point they missed
Marco Assensio and Ansu Fati in 2022 ;)
Midfielders as well ..like gundogan did for city...but the main problem for Spain that they didn't have PACY wingers to stretch Italy and create cutbacks....when Morata came on runs with pace behind cb's created space.... SHOULD HAVE USED TRAORE IN ET.
If Spain play with a true 9 and Italy with Insignia in false 9 (Chiesa and Berrari on the wings), the balance of power could have been reversed. Very good tactical choice by Luis Enrique in any case
Enrique`s spain a lovely team to watch.
Agreed.
Spain dominated the midfield and was fairly solid in defence. Was actually the better team last night and the difference was forwards. I was anticipating a dominating Italy performance but Spain really put in a shift. Promising signs for the Spaniards who have some real talent: Pedri, Torres, Garcia...

When your opponent plays with false 9....the best way to counter is to press high up the field...try to score a goal or two within the first 30-35 minutes....the longer the game goes, the more the opponent gets stronger since pressing man to man takes up more energy....
Best way to counter false 9 is 3-4-3
@@rajeepthapa5426 Having a back 3 to counter a false 9 is never going to work (assuming the opponent has lethal wingers, which Spain did not have in this game).. IMO the best way to counter it is a 4-1-4-1, with the deep defensive midfielder going man-to-man to the false 9 and the two CB going for zonal marking instead
If Chiellini or Bonucci comes out marked Olmo, it gives too much space in the center of the defense that can be exploited by Torres or Oyarzabal if the pressing fails, which can often happen with technical or mobile players like Olmo, Pedri or Koke. The speed of Chielini or Bonucci does not ensure good depth coverage either. The best answer for Italy is to play lower (without a real center forward, it is not dangerous to defend the centers) and to take advantage of the spaces due to Spain's risk-taking. It's not very beautiful, but that's what Italy did in the second half and rightly so.
Or 4-2-3-1 with the holding mids and CB creating a box around the false nine
You have to play what opponent let you to play. Spanish guys was just too good evading the pressing and they had good chances from central part of the field.. Then Italy chose to be realistic and said: ok, you just too good. Lez play a classic waiting counter strategy, filled the center and let the ball go to wings. Strategy worked well and Italy got 1-0. Then Mancini messed up some subs and Spanish pressur was just too High for 30minutes defending. 1-1 was fair.
Then Spanish became less precise and Italy went totally full defence mode.
Penalty kicks are Just a lottery. The game was a draw quite Fair cause Italy had at least 5 clear scoring chances.
Spinazzolaâs loss was heavy for Italy too
At one point in the second half Insigne was turned into a False 9 so to use at best the spaces left by Spain while they were trying to find the equalizer
Italy for the euros
I think Italy was quite ok to let Spain have the ball most of the time knowing that they wouldnât be able to do so much with it. The plan was to defend compact and hit on the counter. This is what happened in almost all of Italyâs chances (2 times hitting the posts and the goal) while they also created 1 chance from âregularâ open play. Spain had not created more than Italy (1 very good save from Donnarumma, 1 time when there was a quite messy situation in the box with Chiellini saving a shot directed to goal and the actual goal they scored). The rest of the game was a very sterile Spain possession of the ball with many long shots going high and wide.
Bruh You need to watch match atleast 3 times again.
Spain completely dominated italy in most of phases.
Now that is different issue that they could not convert their chances.
But italy were lucky here af.
@@shivampardeshi9977 possesion is overrated, if only belotti pass to berardi on counter press did not intercepted by laporte, 2-1 for sure in extra time
This Video literally showed the Xg at the start of it to determine who had more chances. Doesn't matter if you have players like Oyarzabal who can't even touch the ball with their head, remember their was a glorious chance but that won't count as a shot on target bcoz Oyarzabal missed a simple header. It's a good video but the title could say...and how Mancini adapted! I thought Spain had them on the ropes + they did but I rewatched the 2nd half + ET again + it was much closer than what I originally thought. Italy could have made it 2-0 on the break. Spain were so good in possession + were a bit faster than the other game's I've seen them in, but you have to admire how Italy can adapt + always seem to find a way. I was surprised by how they seemed fine to let Spain dictate the tempo but they were getting played through in the 1st half, so Mancini accepted it + pushed them back. It was the right thing to do. Spain were scared of Italy's breakaway pace + Chiesa's goal showed why. It hit the net 11 sec's after Donnarumma rolled it out! But it could've gone either way? It was 4-4 on shots on target + if Italy had been a bit more savvy + not been offside so often they could've easily been in a few more times too. But after losing the last 2 pen so's to Spain, I hoped it'd be Italy's turn this time. I think they've been the most impressive team overall + to win in a more defensive style just shows how strong + versatile they are. But it was more about heart, spirit, resilience + a cool mentality than tactics! And saying they were fortunate is stretching it a bit imo as it implies that they had little threat themselves + puts the onus more on Spain's forwards as failures more than Italy's great desire to see it through! (Berardi had 3 chances after he came on for eg, 1/2 chances but he 'scored' an offside goal from a more difficult position!) Spain didn't deserve to go out after a performance like that though + both deserve credit for such a great match. What do you do? Leave Morata out + dominate possession but lack a cutting edge? Or bring him on for his goal threat + disrupt some of the tempo + rhythm in midfield? Cause Spain weren't as fluent after all their changes, Italy's subs had a more positive impact too. They were even tighter + started to break once again.
hindsight is 20/20. Just appreciate how thin the margin of error was; how shrewd both teams played to their strengths. Oyarzabal failed 2 times to put the ball in the back of the net. In the face of the beauty of ChiesaÂŽs goal & the vibe of the whole Italian team it felt more deserving for ITA to win. Although penalties are a lottery, in the simplest terms: Italy WON the game, while Spain LOST the game.
I disagree about penalties being a loterry. They take preparation, skill, and composure.
â@@alonsoJ2002 Randomness is heavily increased. It is 50/50 each time. You do not have these chance-ratios in open play. Compared to 11 vs 11, it is two guys making a decision that decides the outcome of the 120 min before it. Closer to lottery than success by skill, if you ask me. Sure: you still have to score a goal.
I'm not so 'sophisticated' analyzing the matches, and probably that's why i like this channel lol, but for my experience of football lover i can say that you can have the ball possession even by 95%, creating the most dangerous situation along the match, covering better the spaces and all......but when players like Oyarzabal literally 'blows' 2 clear and easy goal.......than you must be worried, something bad is coming to knock at yar door. Morata missed the penalty....like others of his team, but at least he leveled the match during the 90 mins and played truly well. We suffered Spain ofc, but never fall except for the 1-1 by Morata. Both team played at their best possibility with the players we had for that match. Rest is history.
We STAY at Wembley not because we are the best, or the luckyest, or the chosen one......but simply because we can't lose. Maybe we will fail the Finale, lol. I hope not.....but as they say "Winner is who's score 1 more then the others". This and only this will make the difference this Sunday đ
Agree 100%.
That was Spains game to lose. Italy know how not to lose that's it.
I knew Spain would drop the ball at penalties. So Italy should just defend until then.. But you can't attack with so much force for and can't see the game out.
Bro It will be nice if you do a tactical analysis on Argentina vs Brazil
If the match goes well
Spain played the game against Italy very well; but unfortunately playing well does not always translate into victory. On the other hand, Italy made the appropriate tactical adjustments based on the dominance of Spain: Italy was forced to apply its famous "catenaccio", and that was enough for the Italians to go to Wembley. Congratulations to Italy!

The false nine approach gave Spain dominance over the midfield. Before the game some analysts believed the team who would dominate the midfield would win the game. In the end I think this approach hampered Spains winning chances, because of the problems they had in the final phase of the attack. It sounds obvious, but I think Italy handled the tactical challenge well. They lost the battle on the midfield, but kept Spain from getting really dangerous in front of the goal, which made them win the game in the end.
Oyarzabal 2 CLEAR CUT chances
If you gonna play false nine, the guy playing that false nine has to have goals in them, Spain simply didn't have quality players in the final third to put away the game, its fine when you dominate the midfield, but you gotta have incisive passing and movement in the final third to convert your advantage, and for Spain, it simply wasn't there
Exactly. Thatâs the realest analysis.
You can get goals from anywhere on the pitch: defenders mids wingers. A false 9 is not played to score goals itâs used for build up phases and to dominate all phases. A goal takes 5 seconds a match is ninety minutes.
Yeah but since Spain couldnt score without a true striker says a lot. They really dominated the game and they should have scored a lot...

All things considered, this is a tournament to be proud of. Luis Enrique has been tactically brillant through most of the matches. He has invested in youth, in the form of Pedri, Olmo and Eric, and he has planted seeds for a brighter future.
Honestly, just as I've been thinking for the last two years that England is going to win SOMETHING because they just have too much talent, I'm feeling the same about Spain. There are just too many outstanding youngsters. Bryan Gil, Yeremy Pino, Ilaix Moriba, Ăscar Mingueza, Rafa Mir... If Ansu Fati comes back healthy and fit, they are going to win, for sure.
olmo as f9 was fire, a shame that torres, oyarzabal and moreno were really poor
Ikr Torres was vital to be the goal threat in that system he heavily disappointed
There is a problem: Mancini appeared knowing that Spain was not Belgium. Instead he decided to let the whole team to build wall. Spain was unlucky but they had to blame themselves for not anticipating it.
And if you still think Spain is better, look on how Portugal, Morocco and Russia locked Spain in 2018 World Cup; or how Sweden, Poland, Switzerland, Croatia locked Spain in this Euro.
On the contrary, I think Mancini wanted to beat Spain with their own weapons and it was a bad move...they still master those tactics better than he does.
Hope he'll remember that lesson for the next game between the two teams.
itay tried being "new italy" but spain outplayed them at the whole "possession of the midfield" game, which is why they reverted to just contain and counter.
what's worrysome is that mancini didn't find a single effectinve solution the whole match, losing hold of the match more and more instead of fighting against the spanish tide
@@majukun yeh and if England get through I think they can beat Italy as they pressed Germany high n will do so against Italy. Italy have one way of playing n if their counter attacks arenât perfect against England thereâs gona be no chance
Cope, the italian team was obviously trying to get the ball and dominate the game like they did in the other matches, you could tell it in the field, and you could even tell it by their faces, the players were nervous, desperate, and Mancini was having an hiperactive attack, the Italian team was absolutely KO and they were shitting their pants until they scored.
It wasn't until they scored the first goal thanks to Eric mistake that they decided to stop trying anymore and build the wall because Spain was kicking their ass from minute 5 and it was a matter of time they scored with how good they were playing and the amount of close chances they had, in fact it was surprising how they hadn't yet, and even then at the moment of their strongest defense, Spain ended up scoring when Morata entered, moment where I tell yout that most Italians saw themselves out of the tournament.
Italy from minute 60 spent the rest of the game begging to god for the match to end, they were just getting stomped left and right, it was the worst performance by Italy so far in the tournament. Aftery today's game, I assure you most England fans are happy to face Italy instead of Spain if they pass in the final.
â@@majukun Problem is : Mancini started with the wrong XI and the wrong tactics... he should have used a more 'defensive minded' team for the first 50-60'. A 3-5-2 with Bernardeschi instead of Chiesa on the right flank for example.
Chiesa would have been a real problem for Spain if he entered the game for the 30 to 60 last minutes... and Bernardeschi would have defended his flank just as good as he did for the first hour.
xG, SchmexG. Skill wins leagues, but luck wins tournaments, and Italy just needs to get lucky one more time. Forzaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Really good analysis but I don't think it was a lucky escape for Italy. Spain gave up their centre forward for midfield dominance. They don't have anyone who is great at playing false 9 which is why they weren't as threatening as their possession suggests.
True but Italy still played too passive ... Even in the 2 half ... Poor performance from midfielf and Attack for Italy
@@marcotraina9024 Italy were outnumbered in the midfield but it also meant Spain more often than not didn't habe someone in a goal scoring position. Italy were forced to play on their backfoot but imo were happy to play on the counter attack.
A firing no 9
Spain will be dominant again in Europe
Kudos to Enrique
I have a question: why, in your opinion, Mancini wasn't able to adapt to Henrique's tactics when he saw Spain dominating the midfield? Clearly Henrique started with a smarter tactic but the coach is there to understand the match and apply countermeasures...
This Spanish team has a bright future. Within next years they will be the dominating force like 2014 Germany.
They can have great chance at WC 2022, if Ansu Fati and Brahim Diaz fits into the team.
I felt spain would have been amazing if they started with gerad moreno he is really good !!!
People get so caught up in the possession numbers and Morata drama that they forget if Berardi wasn't so wastefull it would've been 3-0.
Nah 3-3 if oyarzabal knows to finish and control the ball
spain deserved to win the euro, not just the semis, their lack of finishing makes me sad
Yes and Italy have finishers like cr7 đ€Ł

Makes me really appreciate David Villa in 2010. That's what you call a lethal reliable striker.
Moreno was good in La Liga, didn't expect him to become flop in Euro.
@@L.Rajakumar to play for Villarreal and play for Spanish national team in euros are two completely different things.
One question. WHY didnt Mancini change formation yo 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 putting more men to midfield as he saw spain had 4 men in midfield? They could have balanced the game with more guys on the midfield
For me, Spain lost because they were too hesitant in the final 3rd. If they are gonna improve on goalscoring, they have to follow the principle "Act, Don't React"
Imagine how good this side would be with a prime Fernando Torres
great analysis. But playing with the falso nueve has some side effects, it's difficult to score, since you have no real strikers. So great Spain midfielders could keep the ball possession, due also to the numeric superiority, but they couldn't really break the last line of the defense. On the other hand, Italy could score with much fewer ball possessions having real strikers. I think it could be a paradox, but the final result reflects the two tactics. With the falso nueve you don't give reference to the opposite defense, but you don't give the same also to your midfielders, who can only pass the ball around the opposite defense. With a good defense like the Italian one, what happened, to reach the penalties, makes sense. I don't blame the Spain for their tiki taka, but I also don't blame the Italian defensive game.
Are the strikers the only one that can score?
@@bilbohob7179 Normally they score much more than the midfielders, due to their position. Seems to be quite obvious

@@StefenP no. He wasn't. It is obvious
Spain under Luis Enrique looks promising. If Oyarzabal, Moreno, Morata have a good season for their respective clubs, Spain would be real contenders for the 2022 World Cup.
Morata is not a world class striker.
Maybe he isn't a good finisher, but his work rate and off the ball movements suit the Enrique style of play.
@@rajanv6888 yeah I agree. If Ansu Fati and Brahim Diaz can adopt and fit into this team. And Ramos and Carvajal are in top form when WC2022 is played then Spain will be contenders for WC2022.

Mancini knew that Spain wont use the fullbacks much, coz they canât pose much threat now a days using their fullbacks and even in all the recent matches alba also has not progressed a lot to overlap or make crosses from that lb position , most probably coz they dont have any aerial threats. The main area where Spain could dominate was the midfield, Busquets has been the key and quite effective in the recent matches, Mancini wanted to cut out any possible progression from the midfield, specifically. Turning off Busquets and maintaining and midfield dominance was key to italy, 5:41, 5:42 , in the 4-4-2 shape, the 2 upfront, (Insigne and Immobile) both were marked to specifically disarm Busquets !

I think because of rivalry. Spain and Italy play always in semifinal and final. The same if Italy and France or Italy and Germany, if is your arch-rival you play a lot better. Spain underrated Switzerland, but with Italy they made the best game. If France play Italy and not Switzerland, is the same
