As someone who loves scary stuff and horror but CANNOT see lots of blood and especially not exposed organs, this is exactly what I needed😭
This. Even in the newer halloween I can't do it
same !! i love horror but blood and guts are not my thing
@@libramoons same here
My fave no/little gore horror films are The Babadook, 1408, & Disturbia.
Each are about understanding people's perceptions of what's going on around them whether they're really happening or not.
They're more psychological-dramas but still make me squirm.
YES to all of these!!
Yeah, 1408 is a really good one.
Great picks!!!
@@PossessedbyHorror I'd include "Ghost Story" with Alice Krige (even when it was new, it was kind of hokey, but I still love it) and "The Forgotten" with Julianne Moore (woman searches for her missing son...and everyone tells her he never existed). Oh, and "Wind Chill" (two college students take a short cut...what could go wrong?)
DISTURBIA YES OMGG
Creep is personally one of the scariest films I’ve seen. I’ll never forget the feeling of when I first watched it!
Same, it also single handedly changed my view on found footage horror. Amazing film
You guys need to watch more movies lol. Creep is very good, and very funny, but in no way scary, let alone the scariest of all. I can tell you guys don't really watch movies.
@@rike94has it ever occurred to you that everyone is different?
@@kphoria1009 yes, but in this case they're just people that don't watch horror movies.
Glad you mentioned The Others first on this list. Such an underrated gem of a film that needs to be talked about more.
Also… I think it would be a cool idea to do a video on what you personally feel makes a Horror vs what makes a Thriller with examples of films that are straight horror, straight thriller, and films that toe the line between both.
The others was my first horror film as a kid!
The Fourth Kind is definitely under appreciated and underrated. It terrified me when it came out. A great example of horrifying imagery and atmosphere without gore or jump scare tactics.
Agreed with
Thank you for reminding me that the only thing I hate more than gore is the jumping scare.
Movies listed in video with timestamps:
3:19 - The Others (2001)
4:11 - Funny Games (1997)
5:08 - His House (2020)
6:34 - The Rental (2020)
7:34 - The Gift (2015)
8:39 - The Orphanage (2007)
9:39 - Creep (2014)
10:42 - The Night House (2021)
12:08 - 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
13:36 - The Fourth Kind (2009)
Thanks love❤
I’m so happy you made this video! I can’t handle gore like I used to and will just shut the movie off if it gets like that. Thanks a bunch!
Some favorite non gory horror movies (mostly classics) that weren't mentioned: The Innocents (1961), The Uninvited (1944), The Changeling (1980), Black Christmas (1974), Psycho (1960), and the Classic Universal Monsters.
I love Black Christmas 😍
Oh my gosh, The Invisible Man! Very impressive effects for the time and man did he become cruel.
The dark night of the scarecrow too, probably one of the greatest horrors of all time.
My favourite minimal/no gore horror films are: Carnival of Souls (1962), Shutter (original 2004 Thai version), The Eye (original 2002 Hong Kong version), and Dark Water (original 2002 Japanese version). I also agree with some of the comments here that 1408, The Babadook, Creep, Session 9, and The Innkeepers are pretty effective as well.
The Changeling. George C.Scott. 1980 film. By far my favorite non-gore horror/ghost story movie ever.
I'd also recommend a lot of older horror movies, namely ones from the 60s and before. First one that comes to mind is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Fantastic thriller all the way through, and it's available on CZcams movies
The Others TERRIFIED me when I had first watched it and had been younger. There was one scene that still sticks with me to this day from it, but that's where I came to love Nicole Kidman from. Also, 1000% agree on THe Fourth Kind. So underrated... genuinely terrifying. So much so that my partner said he will never watch it again lol Thank you for another great video!
Yah for me the scariest The Others scene was when the little girl looked like the old lady
I have a soft spot in my heart for The Changeling (1980). The séance seen still gives me chills even though I watch it at least once a year. And Murder by Decree (1979) Is more mystery with a bit of horror. It's Jack the Ripper vs Sherlock Holmes. The murders happen off screen before Sherlock shows up- so you see a smidge of the aftermath- but it's not too gory.
The gift is such a horror gem
Other horror movies that are not gory are Secret Window, The Ninth Gate, Don't Go In The House and Haunting In Connecticut. All 4 are good, Don't Go In The House has no gore but can be very disturbing. Nice list of goreless horror Sarah. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving with your family sis!🦃
Absolutely LOVE Secret Window :)
@@jessicalandrey8421 The Ninth Gate also has Johnny Depp.🤔
loved Secret Window's ending. I had watched the Ninth Gate about four times and I don't understand what the ending means or implies.
@@hectormontalvo5565 the title “Don’t go in the house” definitely give me Juon The Grudge vibes
@@lessismore8533 well during the movie the protagonist hears voices or does he? But it's more of a psycho movie than supernatural.👍
I would love some korean horror movie recommendations. I think they're so talented when it comes to creating effective horror stories.
I have quite a few. But the gore definitely is present in quite a few just as the psychological element is.
The Piper (2015). Political horror-- but only if you care. Variation on The Pied Piper fairy tale.
I like The Ring Virus
The Fourth Kind is one of my favorite horror movies, and it absolutely terrified me. I wish more people talked about it!!
Man! Wish I had this info a year or two ago!! I'm a massive horror nerd, but I experienced a trauma that made me incapable of viewing movie gore. I've gotten a lot better since then, but this is a great list if you have that struggle. Another GREAT pick in this category is We're All Going To The World's Fair. Definitely a slower one, but very unnerving and mysterious. I was thinking about that movie for days after viewing
Love the profile picture!
I'm happy to see Funny Games here - I absolutely love Scream, it's my favorite 90s horror, but if I had to choose a #2, it would be this one. So bleak, miserable, and cruel, and such a great internal reflection on the viewer. Truly a masterpiece and an under-appreciated 90s horror classic.
Thank you for recommending Creep it's my second favorite horror movie.
Thanks for the recs, Sarah! The Gift is SO good, so it was a pleasant surprise to see it on this list 😊💖
Such an underrated movie!
I love your videos, especially your tier lists…a suggestion is a tier lists of horror movies centered on family’s😁
I didn't know that funny games was goreless! I've been scared to watch it because everyone bangs on about how disturbing it is, but somehow not having gore makes it seem more accessible to me
there’s a few moments here and there but it’s not overly gory! it’s definitely mostly psychological
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this list of recommendations! I'm a huge horror fan who can handle pretty much everything except gore.
Look at you glowing!
I hope you're doing/feeling well & had a Happy Thanksgiving(if you celebrate).
PS I appreciate the recommendations, as an adult, I find myself not caring for all the gore sometimes, no matter how desensitized I am.
I'd love to also see "movies with no or minimal jumpscares" and "movies with no 'creatures'" from you..!? 😊
Stella Annie ? I know your user name from Psych in Seattle :)
@@rachelreynolds0430 Yes, haha..! This feels like a weird crossover :D
@@rachelreynolds0430 So you're a horror fan :) What are some of your faves?
@@stellannie86 Well, Sarah talks about The NIght House in this video, which I really liked. And she has a great review of Last Night in Soho, which I really liked. And now, that I think about it, I'm not sure Psychology and Horror is such a weird crossover :)
I appreciate this so much because I don't appreciate gore in my horror movies.
Honestly, I'd say Sixth Sense. And, frankly, nothing can beat it for me. I know there's an open wound moment, a hanging moment, and a vomiting moment. But there's something so special about this movie that I haven't found elsewhere. It's the human relationships and how the supernatural and the suspenseful part of all the characters' lives is what makes them confront the problems in their relationships. I find it sweet. And sad. And super thrilling.
Starting off with my all time favorite scary movie! I absolutely LOVE The Others. One of the first scary movies I ever watched, it brings back so many memories
Yah it was my first horror movie as a kid I was 10
great list! i also wanted to mention for anyone looking for recs in the comments the movie the birds! i dont see enough people talking about it bc psycho seems to overshadow it imo and im sure sara wont mention it in part 2 bc its just not her decade but it was one of my favorites when i was a kid
oh dear, take a shot everytime i say but or and instead of finishing the damn sentence
I recommend:
White Noise (2005) Supernatural thriller
The Forest (2016) Horror/Thriller
I love The Forth Kind! I'm so happy to see it getting some love.
Such a good list! His House was soo good!! It genuinely freaked me out for days!!
i love this because my favorite horror movies verge more on psychological thriller horror, and have never been a huge fan of actual gore horror ❤
SAME! Psychological over gore anyway!
THANK YOU for this!! I LOVE horror, it's pretty much the only genre of movie or shows I watch, books I read, games I play, etc. But I do NOT like gore. I don't like seeing people brutalized like that or carved up in a grotesque way.
Same here
I’m doing this for my mom every time there is something gory she hides in the corner and shields her face 😂
Love HIS HOUSE. Hopefully more people will watch it after your recommendation.
So glad you recommended His House! So underrated.
- Dead Of Winter (1987)
- The Other (1972)
- The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane (1976)
- Byzantium (2013)
- The Lodgers (2017)
Can't believe I never heard of "The Fourth Kind". Judging by the trailer, your intro, and the comments here - it's a must watch.
It's not that great.
Wow, I really thought that the videos in The Fourth Kind were real. That element made it super disturbing, especially with the man and his family, IYKYK. Awesome video, definitely going to check them out!
My dad always recommended me The Others because he knows how much I love horror / thriller movies. I’m glad it was on this list
As a Gorehound. I will say I enjoy these films as well. I tend to prefer my horror with some narley blood throughout but I love horror in all its aspects. Can't wait for Terrifier 3!!!
I really like the movie „Calibre“ I think it is a Netflix movie so you should be able to watch it there. It’s also a little more on the psychological thriller side of things but the tension is incredible! And no one ever talks about it so I thought I’d just throw it in the comments :)
A few I would add include The Lodge, She Will, Don't Look Now, What LIes Beneath, Lake Mungo, The Innkeepers, The Monster, The Haunting of Julia, Rosemary's Baby...I could go on and on because I usually prefer my movies without gore.
What lies beneath 👌
I was blown away by His House, especially as it came in under the radar with no fanfare. I LOVED 'She Will' too! I was going to recommend but wasn't sure it would be scary enough for this list. It's almost like a contemporary fairy tale. It's worth watching for Alice Kridge's incredible performance alone, and the wonderfully dark forest setting. What Lies Beneath is good too, The Others, obviously, as other people have mentioned 1408 (preferably the version without the silly jump scare in the car at the end), The Devil's Backbone, the original of Let the Right One In - so many that I forget the titles! I actually prefer the minimum gore end of the horror film spectrum that relies more on psychological build up. If you like old Black & White films and can cope with the now somewhat hokey special effects, then look out for the original version of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting (Obviously it has been "homaged" to death since by Mike Flanagan, but I still prefer the original) and a British 1957 film Night of the Demon (which is sometimes called Curse of the Demon outside the UK) about a cynical rationalist University Professor determined to debunk a creepy Aleister Crowley like Satanist and his coven, only to become the target of a large angry fire breathing demon (which in fairness does somewhat resemble my mothers cat... but cool all the same!). The scene in which the Crowley figure is posing as a cuddly clown entertainer at a childrens garden party really stuck in my head.
Have you ever seen the Devils backbone ? I really enjoy that one.
Yes! Really good. I found out recently it's considered part of a trilogy that includes Pans Labyrinth. The third film is called Chronos. Not officially a trilogy but all three take place in the same universe so to speak.
Ooh as a follow up to this list - creep-inspired - realistic horror please! I know this category with home invasion / stalker etc isn’t your favourite but it’s really effective I find
For me, it absolutely has to be the original Wicker Man! One of the most disturbing films I have ever seen, and there isn't a single drop of blood seen in the entire movie. While most horror films rely on body horror shock and gore to scare the audience, but with The Wicker Man it's all about the community and environment around you that makes you feel uneasy and disturbed, especially at the end!
Yessss His House was so good. Glad you brought it up! I was never bored of that movie and I love the story telling in the flashbacks.
oh i will never shut up about His House!! i keep recommending that movie to anybody who even asks. i feel like there is some brief body horror, but yeah gore is not the focus. still creepy enough that I had to watch a couple parts behind a pillow
His House is very underrated, Lake Mungo is great watch without on screen gore, I’m tempted to recommend Head Count but there are some self harm scenes that I Rembrandt as being mild but they are disturbing.
I'm excited to watch The Gift now!
Enjoy. That ending is a DOOZY.
His House is one of the best movies out there
The Others has no gore and it's very good and spooky, actually scared me as a kid.
Other was first 1st horror film at 10 yrs old in 01!
Lake Mungo!
If we're talking horror movies with little to no gore, one movie that people forget or are surprised to learn about its lack of gore is the original Halloween (1978). Before I watched it a couple years back I was well aware of its reputation as a classic, so I was surprised at the fact that it doesn't really have much in the way of gore in it. Same goes for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
What you said about PG-13 horror movies proving that they don't need to have buckets of blood to be scary is pretty accurate. I mean The Ring was a perfect example of that (and you mentioned it in the beginning of the video), and it's movies like that that give me hope for M3GAN next year.
I would recommend The Invitation, the 2015 one.
I'm a huge horror fan but my girlfriend hates gore, so this is absolutely perfect! Thank you so much!
David Franco, James' little brother, directed his wife Alison Brie in The Rental. Good list. Boxing Helena is good at avoiding gore considering the plot.
Older one but I always liked "the Changeling" with George C Scott.
The Skeleton Key and Chronicle come to mind. They are both more on the thriller side, especially Chronicle (also that one is found footage), but I really like them.
Thank you!! I love horror, but will avoid anything ultra-gory, so this is great.
The Rental scared me from using Air BnB ever again.
I love 10 cloverfield lane, it’s one of my favourites and I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead she is gorgeous
Putting in a word for Rosemary's Baby...
thank you for this list!
Sarah! You gotta watch Alone. It came out in 2020, and is streaming on Netflix. Amazing tension!!
How do you know she has not?
@@Horrorzeit I don’t. That’s the point of a recommendation. Not possible to know everything someone has watched. Hey, if you haven’t seen it you should check it out to. ✌️
I also recommend Stages of the Cross for psychological horror/drama as well as Stoker
Pulse/Kairo. It’s terrifying, and has no gore at all.
My sister hates even a little bit of blood in movies, which makes picking a movie for the Halloween night way harder than it should be, so this list is perfect for me, (or her) :D
Love these no gore horror lists
As a hiper hiper sensitive/empathic person who has always love the concept of horror movies but can never be "brave enough" to watch them. I love this list
The fourth kind left me traumatized for like a good two weeks. I watched it when I was like 12, and I’ve honestly always been kind of a scaredy-cat, so I was clearly scared. I even had nightmares about it for like a week or so… but I kinda want to watch it again now that I’m older
house on haunted hill (1959) is also a really fun one!
I would recommend Them (2006) a pretty underrated horror/thriller with good atmosphere, suspense. Little to no blood, afair.
Delirium and Before I Wake are great imo
I'm a gore fiend type of horror fan. But I enjoyed every movie on this list minus the found footage one. Especially the others! His house is definitely very slept on!
The 4th kind is so scary to me love it.
What lies beneath is pretty good! There is one scene with blood but it’s not that bad at all!
I like Creep a lot. It’s such a weird movie and Mark Duplass is great.
Try "Fear of the Dark". The 2003 version. A spooky PG13 film with no gore.
The Others is on Netflix Korea if anyone is looking to stream it and has a vpn :)
Loved the video! I do want to say though, Funny Games is disturbingly gory during the scene when *spoilers* the little kid is killed. Blood everywhere.
for alien "light" movies The signal is great, a def must watch. the movie Area 51 is very very slow but woudl also recommend!
My kind of horror. Little to no glory. Like the classics. Let the imagination do the BEST job.
I feel like Dream House should be included. many people hate on it, but it is a solid movie.
The guy who made Funny Games also made a movie before it called Benny's Video which is pretty good but nobody ever talks about it.
I don't know when you will gonna review don't worry darling,my favorite none gory movie goes to dead silence 2007
I talked about DWD in my September monthly recap!
One of my favorite non-gore movie is Happy Death Day. It is a fun watch.
The Gift is so underrated
my favourite little/no gore movies are Texas Chainsaw Massacare(1978) and The Thing(1982). The Thing is actually my favourite horror movie ever because it has clever characters in a hopeless situation. Also, I love it because of R.J fucking MacReady
So many of these I remember being extremely disturbing, and for some reason, also thought of them as gore-fests this whole time, but no. This is such a fun video haha
Favorite less gore horror movies are (to truly be myself) 1999's The Haunting, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Resident Evil, & Anaconda.
I still praise Resident Evil since my letterboxd review and Anaconda, the same! Coming back into the horror universe thinking I have seen everything (meaning all the classics) My go to beginners' horror before the heavier horror being now a 30 something adult.
Session 9 is REALLY good. I can’t recall how “goreless” it is though. It’s been a long time
My favourite no gory movie: Rosemary’s Baby, everything about is creepy. I always get a claustrophobic feeling after I watch it.
I love horror movies but I can’t stand films like hostel or the saw franchise. Except part 1, that was a masterpiece
I love the others movie ! Goodness i haven’t seen that in a MINUTE !!
Will you be reviewing AHS Stories season 2 and AHS NYC?
I love horror but have a group movie night with people I can do Thriller type horror with but not too gory (we watched Last Night in Soho today). Much appreciated!
