    It always was about making money for racing. Every penny, every cent of profit had to go to the racing team. Enzo would only marginally take part on the development of his road cars, mostly to make sure things went to be how he wanted. Not that he didn’t care. His road cars still had to be better than the competition. But it was a mean to something, not the goal.
    Fun fact: the “cavallino rampante” badge is actually an overprice, an optional added only under request. The money earned from it went directly to the racing team. Everyone wanted it, everyone requested it to proudly display it as a trophy, and Ferrari was making a ton of money with a painted piece of metal.
    At least that was how it used to be. I don’t know if it’s still like that today

    I'd argue the brand turned into a lifestyle brand following the F40. Not so much because it was the last car he had a hand in, but more because Ferrari was originally going to limit the amount sold, but it was so popular, they just kept making more of them. From what I understand about the company's history, it was always just a way for Enzo to pay for racing. This idea of exclusivity and limited production weren't a thing. The cars may have been limited in production, but just because he only made as many as he really needed or chose to. So now that there's a million different exclusive ferrari models that are completely artificially limited, it seems more like the Supreme of cars than a company that really cares about what it's actually making. It's all just about making money and finding enough suckers from which to make money. Honestly, companies like Ferrari basically make cars to sell to their extremely rich clientele, and any that make their way to dealerships are more or less table scraps or gruel from their perspective. It's the extremely wealthy CEOs or the Sultans of Brunei that the company is catering to, not the people who make the brand what it is. It's part of why I like McClaren's business model, or hell, why I love the C8 Corvette. Even Porsche is fairly easy to get their more limited vehicles if you know how to time your order properly.

  • @techpassion4126
    @techpassion4126 Před 2 lety +65

    When the Porsche Cayenne first got released, people thought it was downright blasphemy, that it went against everything Porsche was about. But the Cayenne is what kept the lights on at Porsche. The 911 is still going strong, we've had amazing versions of the Cayman and Boxster, and we've had legendary cars like the 918.
    With Lambo the Urus is what gave the company the money it needed to keep building Huracans and Aventadors, and with all that money Lambo is still able to develop a replacement for the Aventador that still keeps it's V12.
    A lot of us car enthusiasts hate SUVs, but they're integral in making sure the cars we do love still keep getting made. We can still dislike SUVs, but I'm able to overlook all that because I'd rather these companies make a few SUVs in the lineup so they can still make supercars, instead of them dying out and we get to a world where Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, and many others don't exist anymore

    There are a few mistakes here. Camilleri is not Ferrari CEO. He stepped down over a year ago. John Elkann remained as interim CEO and was substituted recently by Vigna. Also Ferrari changed a lot its strategy regarding to merchandise as in they drastically cut back on it. They directed the brand to become a fully fledged luxury firm selling only haute couture stuff, apart from the F1 merch.
    Last, Tifosi in Italian just means fans, no one in Italian thinks about the other meaning of the word in relation to Ferrari supporters.
