marines version of American Idol
LolNinja1234 Yeah 😂
LOL
Haha, best comment!
XD
Lmao
Here, we witness the mating call of the Marine Drill Instructor. Only the Marines with the best mating call will be selected to reproduce, passing their traits on to future generations of Marine.
Truly, magnificent creatures.
Stuart Conrod lolololol😂😂😂😂😂😂
This comment is Marine-approved. Semper fidelis.
Well that explains why I suddenly felt the strong urge to shake my tail feathers during the video 😁😁😁

Oorah.
I never thought I'd miss marching, as much as I got sick of it at Parris Island. But I swear there are days where I'd gladly lace up the boots and head back onto the sweltering pavement. Marching with your fellow Marines, the boots pounding the pavement in step, the cadence wailing in the background... There was something hypnotic about it. You were a unit and no one better stand in your way. Even at such a young age, and even having not yet earned the title of Marine, those were some of the proudest moments of my life.
Same. I hated drill. But looking back, I'd like to step back on Peatross
Isn't that funny?! And I thought it was such a waste of time. Why weren't they teaching us to fight or kill during that time? But now I realize that's part of what makes Marines so much different. It's about pride and discipline.
Nothing says unity like 250 voices together now does it ?
Yep. So true.
Probably the same feeling Hitler's Stormtroopers had. The crunching sound of a street gang on the prowl.
It seems really weird to call cadence just standing in front of people, like preforming on a stage.
Only a Marine can appreciate and get chills , tears and such fond memories
McCants sounds good and very polished, but them old timers were RAW! Thats were we get the sound of our very distinct cadence. Someone mentioned that it was reminiscent of Full Metal Jacket and I couldnt agree more. Back when you'd get jacked up for screwing up! Hats off to those old Marines!
My father was a drill instructor... He is still the most amazing man I know... USMC 1972-1979...
At the beginning of this video. When Pete Peterson said "Who told you to move?" I just broke laughing when he said that. Who else here agrees?
Ricketts at 1:26 sounds just like R Lee Ermey (Honorary GySgt); GySgt Hartman from Full Metal Jacket. Just listen, or even watch.
My thoughts exactly...
RivalsAirsoft3 I thought the same thing!!! Semper Fi --RIP R LEE ERMEY
Yep, that’s what I thought too. I was an Air Force MTI in the early 90s and developed my cadence style from listening to Marine DI’s. They are definitely the best of the best!
We had one drill instructor who could sing cadence and we could march to that better that anyone else.
MsSgt McCants was my chief of operations at CSSG3; TSC, before it became CLB3. I had the honor of recording a caddence CD with him in Hawaii before he left. This definitely takes me back. Thanks for posting this video!
As a former devil dog... God I miss cadence's so much! And yes the last guy got this 39 year old now civilian showing my wife and daughter how we matched to cadence
Brings back memories from some of the proudest years of my life. Semper Fi to all of my brothers and sister from the past, present and future.
good stuff. to this day, if i run, i call cadence in my head
Lol!!! Same here.
Renaissance MarineTV I wanna learn m8
Me too! Lol
I like how the marine Corp basically has a traditional way to call cadence that's been consistent for all these decades
The cadence calling of my drill hat at the depot was probably one of the best I’ve heard
They were all great tbh
I feel like black drill instructors give the cadences some soul.
I guess I should rejoin the DI Association. It has been a while since I attended one of their reunions. I moved to Texas and lived there 13 years. I moved back recently to Southern California and after watching this, think I should rejoin. I participated in several reunions back a while ago and also took part in the cadence calling contest. I did not win, but, it was fun doing some of the cadences that I used while on the Field. I was a DI from 1974 to 1977, assigned to K Company, 3rd RTB, MCRD San Diego. Started as a Junior, then Senior, Series Gunnery Sergeant and finally, Chief DI for the company.
SSgt. Curry had the best cadence of all!!
I thought he was gonna win
Thats my cheif drill instructor
@@paulleduc6205 No kidding, he was my drill hat when I joined. He became a replacement when my original drill hat had to leave for a medical condition.
@@AA-tj7wt ya he was an awesome cheif drill instructor, one memorable moment was a series IT session that he led
@@paulleduc6205 I agree. I thought he was very inspirational. Everyone in my platoon would get excited when he marched us into cadence.
The Lessons you learn last a lifetime. Hearing this sent Chills through me Semper Fi
I used to teach recruits here...84-92.
MsSgt Pete Peterson gave my platoon the tour of the museum at MCRD
Master Sergeant Mccants won he's runs a CZcams channel called Thescribe114 nice to see him win the best cadence caller should've showed the whole event at least the drill instructor calling it.
Spartan 04 yea man I subbed to him too
No one could compare to Sgt Garcia in the early '60's, his cadence was magical and inspiring. Pretty sure there's a recording of him out there somewhere
It’s awesome to see how it stays the same threw the generations! If it’s not broken don’t fix it!
I always listen to Lawrence "Pete" Peterson's cadence when I wake up. Then I hit it and fall back asleep.
OUT FREAKING STANDING! Sing it Devil Dogs!
Gave me flashbacks... Not gonna lie!
the real competition would've been calling cadence for recruits in training. Semper Fi, you Mighty Awesome Devil Dogs. RAH!!!
You’re runnin’ ladies, you’re runnin’
They still got it, especially the Vietnam Era DIs
Sgt D, Alpha 1010 2006 Dont want want to give away his full name but kept me in the Marines for 8 years
SSGT Adams Platoon 2022 MCRD called some of the best cadence I have ever heard.
Tank Machine did the best performance of these USA Marine Cadences that I've ever heard. Tank Tankster is his name. He still makes beard oil in his home town of Sandpoint, Idaho!! 😎💃🙏💛🗝⚜💠❇🧬🧬🧬🧬🧬
Thank you all for your input in my grandsons life.
I remember at lights out when u hit that rack, I used to hear and dream drill. You drill so freakN much u will literally see it when u close your eyes, then it’s Reveille at your counting off getting online to start all over. Memories a devil never forgets. Yeah it sucked, but nothing compares to the feeling you have when u get YOUR EGA. The fun starts when u hit the fleet, Semper Fi🇺🇸
That's my senior platoon 2133 senior drill instructor sgt golden I am legend!!!!!!
Semper fi God bless america and her people amen
I love the Marines and support them 100%, I think Drill Instructors have one of the most important jobs in the Marine Corps, their endurance , intensity and attention to detail is outstanding, but having this contest is just weird.
Gave me chills
These cadences are nothing compared to the actual cadences on the depot ..
For the most part no. But I had the privilege of marching under another DI's cadence that sounded sort of like these. In my opinion, it was way better than these. I remember thinking, this dude is singing this shit with all his heart. Not one recruit was out of step on that march..
My chief drill instructors cadence was so good during graduation it seemed like it was ringing throughout the whole MCRD
I beg to differ! I heard many of the very same cadences both as a recruit and as a DI. I used some of them myself.
From the video I would agree, McCants the winner. It always makes you want to lace up again and drill.
God I miss it
These guys are all legendary.
Notice how the instructors from the 60's sound alike?? Like r lee ermey from full metal jacket...
cosio m haha was about to comment the same thing
Yeah
The cadences were the same all the way through the 1970's when I was on the Drill Field. They started changing a bit in the 80's and now are very different than the ones we used. I have friends who were Marines back in the 50's and their cadence sounded much different than mine too. I guess it changes in time.
I called cadence and drill at boot camp in the summer of 1969. I don't know if the DI's liked me or if they wanted everybody to hate me.
Haha, I see two of my DIs
Shafi McCants has a good voice too
Very motivating to say the least. Semper Fi!
memories and goosebumps
Calling cadences is considered an art-form.
0:59 for our next act:
My Senior Ssgt Ifill use to call cadence to the National anthem, very impressive.
These men --- “LOVE THEIR BROTHERS!!!!!!” They would give their last breath for their fellow warriors!!!!!
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MEN!!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! ❤️🙏😢😢😢😢🤘🤘♥️😘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Semper Fidelis
1:04 The whole depot is out of step including the chow hall lady..
I laughed so hard man.
when I went to boot camp ssgt curry was now a gnry sgt his cadence is awesome he was follow series tho we were lead series with gnry sgt bloumquist and
senior gnry sgt domingo
I know MSgt McCants. Amazing man.
goosebumps
The judge on the right is or was Ssgt Perry he was my companies lead series chief Drill Instructor.
OOH-RAH‼️🍻
Funny. The young Marine Drill Instructors don’t sounds anything like what I remember from the early 70’s. They sound like the new hip hop sissy Marine Corps. I must be getting old!
Lmaoooo the crayon eating is strong with this one
awesome!
Started basic at MCRD SAN DIEGO Jan 3 1966 yellow footprints quick haircut delousing shower stripped of everything you were not born with standing naked on footlocker...and that was the first 20 min! Every morning 3 min to shit shower and shave.
The DI at 1:27 reminds me so much of R Lee Ermey aka Gy Sgt Hartman. His voice, his appearance, his cadence styles, everything
Just a ??? Question! Watching the newest Marines, all marching the same time, place, distance, etc., are all their boots replaced at the same time? Uniforms?
My favorite was Sgt Gooden!
Bringing some dowop oldies to the cadence! Motivator!
These guys are amateurs compared to my experience. First Battalion, Platoon 1020, MCRD San Diego, October 1965.
So motivating
I like 1,2,3,4 Marine Corps best
Series Chief SSG Wiggins sang like Johnny Mathis. It literally brought tears to my eyes.
Great!
Did the last guy sing "Home Sweet Home" for his Cadence?
can you do three marching cadence videos because I need them for this program that I am in called the young marines and I am a platoon sergant so I March them
When they turned the camera's off, they had a pissing contest!!!!
OOHRAH!
1973/Feb/13
Parris Island, SC
I remember seeing sgt gooden all the time
I used to call cadence to the star wars/ darth vader theme left right left, Right yo left Right yo Left, left Right Left Right Yo lefft
This is funny as hell! - Sounds like Celine Dion crossed with Cher 😂😂😂
Ssgt Moore was a reservist. Hell yea!
army cadence is the best. 19d for live
I'm on my way I'm on my way home sweet home
1:44 He's real good at that. I may as well call cadence similar to him when the time comes.
Too bad this wasn't at MCRD Parris Island. SDI SSgt Mason would win for sure in my book. Semper Fidelis.
You better lock your body recruit
where SSgt Nichols
What's name song?
Nice
do they still do competition like this
Every year the Marines do this on family day at the Hollywood training camp San Diego .
Ray Kitzke Actually, every year they do this during the West Coast Drill Instructors Reunion in San Diego.
agustin Vazquez Yes, every year the West Coast Drill Instructors have a reunion in San Diego. The cadence call at MCRD is one of the many activities during the reunion.
will there be a 2017 post? thxs
They're still editing the video.
Drill Instructor Shafi McCants must love himself some Motley Crue! He’s Home Sweet Home! 🎸🤘🏻 Oorah!!!
My chief drill instructor, Ssgt Curry was here wow ( East Coast )
🔥RaH🔥 Semper Fi🇺🇸
I don't give a shit what kind of cadence if you don't hear the heartbeat the thumping on the tarmac the parade deck the heartbeat the soul of the platoon it ain't nothing whatever? Semper Fi 10 November 17
