Here, we witness the mating call of the Marine Drill Instructor. Only the Marines with the best mating call will be selected to reproduce, passing their traits on to future generations of Marine.
    Truly, magnificent creatures.

I never thought I'd miss marching, as much as I got sick of it at Parris Island. But I swear there are days where I'd gladly lace up the boots and head back onto the sweltering pavement. Marching with your fellow Marines, the boots pounding the pavement in step, the cadence wailing in the background... There was something hypnotic about it. You were a unit and no one better stand in your way. Even at such a young age, and even having not yet earned the title of Marine, those were some of the proudest moments of my life.

Isn't that funny?! And I thought it was such a waste of time. Why weren't they teaching us to fight or kill during that time? But now I realize that's part of what makes Marines so much different. It's about pride and discipline.

McCants sounds good and very polished, but them old timers were RAW! Thats were we get the sound of our very distinct cadence. Someone mentioned that it was reminiscent of Full Metal Jacket and I couldnt agree more. Back when you'd get jacked up for screwing up! Hats off to those old Marines!

I guess I should rejoin the DI Association. It has been a while since I attended one of their reunions. I moved to Texas and lived there 13 years. I moved back recently to Southern California and after watching this, think I should rejoin. I participated in several reunions back a while ago and also took part in the cadence calling contest. I did not win, but, it was fun doing some of the cadences that I used while on the Field. I was a DI from 1974 to 1977, assigned to K Company, 3rd RTB, MCRD San Diego. Started as a Junior, then Senior, Series Gunnery Sergeant and finally, Chief DI for the company.
