There are probably only 100 ish 1 star generals in a military branch too(and the one stars are usually have the same command as colonels - brigades - but are still generals) at the most and like 60 of 1-4 stars in the marine corps. If you don't meet promotion, you get kicked except by an act of Congress, and any general is a big, BIG deal.
