The woman who wanted to leave her kids with random workers on the street reminded me of a time about seven years ago when a thief stole a car in my town, realized there were two kids in the back (ages 1 and 3), turned around, brought the car back to the grocery store parking lot. By that time the police had been called by her, but the thief still marched over and screamed at the mom, "What is WRONG with you?! You left the keys AND your kids in the car?! I could have been a predator! I could have been a kidnapper! Do you not care about these two AT ALL?!" As he was getting arrested, he told her, "This kind of neglect is how people end up like me. You're a TERRIBLE parent!"
She has not lived that down. Our town is 8,000 people. Everyone gossips here. Her kids are now 8 and 10 and people still mention it to her and, even worse, have told the kids the story repeatedly. For the rest of her life, she's going to be followed by the memory of the time she left two kids under the age of four in a running car.

Do what exactly? Keep commiting a federal crime that would get you in serious trouble if the other person pressed charges or told the right person to do it for them? That is so stupid on multiple counts and I'm just glad that beautiful girl was alright after her ordeal, live shipment is already stressful enough for most animal species and to be manhandled by an entitled brat of an adult woman and possibly her small child as well, I do wonder if they coulda threatened an animal abuse charge as well because stealing animals is also its own crime that also warrents fines and abuse is jailable as well. The more you know! But seriously, sarcasm and utter lack of empathy for thieves aside, mail theft is a bigger crime then most people realize and it gets even worse if they'd stolen any federal or state letter as that's also a breach of privacy and- yeah, that woman would be screwed six ways to sunday if op wanted to ruin her life so let's all agree to share this info with anyone dealing with porch pirates, especially if they can get a confession or photo/video evidence of them, because it is absolutely something you can call the police about and they may not be able to act immediately but they'll give them a mighty big wakeup call, especially if it's repeated offenses logged

Sinterklaas (not klaus) is a Dutch word for Santa Claus.
And "Yulepoke" is not a thing, in fact "y" in Finnish is a vowel (equivalent of german ü). Tho i guess you're maybe very incorrectly tried to write joulupukki in a very english-esque way. Which anyways a calque of Swedish julbock (compare also Norwegian julebukk); joulu (“Christmas, Yule”) +‎ pukki (“buck, goat”). Traditionally, before anyone in Finland knew about the Santa Claus tradition, presents were delivered by a man or a boy dressed as a male goat.
(calque means: a borrowing by word-by-word translation)

I have a decent chunk of sales experience so a few things.
A: I have never opened trying to sell and answering yes comes off as a greeting as I say my name, business, & why I'm calling. This tip makes 0 sense and sounds like an old wife's tale.
As a call center agent what not enough people say is, "please take me off your calling list" if said politely. A good company will honor that request as you're a waste of resources to call. If your still getting calls from the same company and you never asked to be taken off the calling list because you keep hanging up, we take plausible deniability and higher ups assume you just, "lost connection" when we say the company name. Just ask to be taken off the calling list and it's easy as hell to honor. if it's a shady company that is indignant, then proceed to escalate up the chain, get irate at higher chains, or be the companies nightmare. Being mad at those that are told orders to follow does NOTHING. You can also block them but asking to be taken off the calling list is a really easy solution.
Same with door to door sales, in fact most if not all local municipalities have laws requiring solicitors to skip houses with a clearly marked, "NO SOLICITORS"
Some will even only allow door to door solicitation if they have received a permit from the local clerk's office.
Tips for a no solicitors signs; make it so easy to see someone walking from the left or right will see it.
Trying to be funny or rude with the sign can backfire because it makes it look like other generic, "welcome home" signs. All it needs is the words, "NO SOLICITORS".
Being rude to the salesmen is pointless because that achieves nothing and believe me, 9/10 that door to door salesmen is having a worse day then you (barring the my SO just died). Very few people actually like being door to door salesmen and only do it because it pays well and can come in clutch when the job market is shit.
And, DO NOT THREATEN THEM WITH A WEAPON. That act can be taken to court. You are needlessly traumatizing someone just trying to pay their rent.

And in a God-fearing household along the lines of this woman's ideal, when parents tell their kids "I got you a Christmas present", the next thing that parent is going to say is "because God allowed me to have a job and make money to buy you that present, so don't thank me - thank God".

I assume the person in question applied in Germany. There, applicants for a job are free to decide whether they want to declare their marital status or not. It's not allowed to ask about it in job interviews, which in this case no one did.
Interpersonal questions such as how to cope with childcare during working hours are allowed, but do not have to be answered. Unless the question is asked by a self-important junior boss, it is more likely to be used to determine how the company can accommodate and support the (potential) employee. The question of childcare is not a trick question in every country to the detriment of the applicant.

The first was a company, so I looked at the contents, rewrapped the package, contacted the company, who picked up the wrong package & got the right one to me, & all was well. The second was a personal seller, of stuff I collect. Sometimes I have to order items in twos or threes or small lots to get the thing I want, which gives me spares I don't want as I already have them. With this package I contacted the seller, slipped a spare or two of mine in there as a quick sorry it's late to the other buyer, resealed the package, then posted it myself to the correct address. I was refunded this postage cost & I assume the buyer got the package, extras & all. I kept no package in my home which didn't have my exact name & address on it. You of course don’t have to - writing it works just as well, but if anyone else is like me and has to do it a lot and ends up putting it off and letting mail stack up because it’s tedious, spending the $5 on the stamp can be well worth the time it saves.
I try to bring mine down with me when I check the mail - that way the mail that isn’t mine never even makes its way up to my apartment, I just stamp it and put it back in the mailbox right then and there.

Years ago Walmart was introducing bar codes and to help people gain confidence in them they had a policy that if the product was under five dollars and rang up wrong you got the item free. It’s amazing how many teenybopper check out people would get embarrassed with a twenty something guy buying personal products and contraceptives for his wife. I would just walk up and put the stuff on the belt and as soon as they saw it they would blush and look away which would make the product frequently ring up wrong. Then they would quickly do what they needed to just get rid of me. I also remember around that same time I was going to the store for something and my mom asked if she could come along. I asked what she needed cuz I could just get it for her. She was stunned that I had no problem getting her some pads. I told her give me the label off the box so I would be sure and get the right stuff. When my children got old enough that it was kinda hard to push Santa as a character that snuck around delivering presents my wife told them that Santa was the spirit of giving to others without the expectation of getting something back.

I was five or six and right before Christmas I got my younger brother to go into the attic with me to play around. We weren't allowed to go there before Christmas because that's where our parents hid the gifts. Needless to say we found them, and I could see my brother's brain go the same way as mine: it's too early for Santa, why are our gifts here and then came the realisation. He started crying, mom came running and just stood there looking at us with the "wtf am I supposed to do" face. My family never had this boys can't cry doctrine but I really don't like my brother crying, never did and never will, so I just went "why are you crying silly, Santa has so much work he had to get mommy and daddy to hide our presents until Christmas". I can't tell you the relief I saw on my mother's face when he believed me. Later me and my parents had a talk, I told them that I lied to make him feel better and now I know Santa isn't real but still I can help to keep him away from the presents from now on and so I did

The whole "I'm gonna save you!!!" thing that MiL did is the same thing my mom's stepmother did. My mom is Christian, but a very chill one who married an atheist, meanwhile her stepmom is practically a zealot. Us kids were never raised with religion, but because of the mix of my mom's Christian beliefs and my dad's non-beliefs, we ended up in the middle (Agnostic). Well she was DETERMINED to convert us, and I recall a conversation between her and my dad where she claimed that if we knew about Christianity but refused to accept it we'd go to hell, and the conversation pretty much went like this
Dad: So if someone doesn't know about your religion they can still go to heaven?
MiL: Yes, but you know so you have to convert!!
Dad: So, by telling my family about your religion, you've doomed them to go to hell
    MiL: Well...but-
Dad: That's what you just told me. Why would you do that to your grandchildren?
    MiL: I-
And then my mom, who found the whole thing ridiculous/amusing, intervened and ended the conversation, though she was clearly on his side. They had agreed to raise us to think for ourselves and not involve religion or politics, accepting that we might pick any or no religion/political opinion, and she was _not_ having that controlling behavior and attempts to basically indoctrinate impressionable young kids. It wasn't about differences in beliefs for my dad, it was about the lack of respect for their parenting methods and attempts to "reward" us for going to church that made him call her out on her BS. Nearly 12 years later we still don't talk to her and all of us kids aren't particularly interested in any religion, though we get along fine with anyone that doesn't try to force it on others. My mom very rarely talks about her beliefs, and she doesn't really believe in religion itself but rather the morals they teach. I'm sure that will make some people claim she isn't a "true" Christian, but I think the world needs more people with a mindset like hers

the lady keeping the packages is crazy! I had a wonderful upstairs neighbor I live in the basement of the house and packages are delivered to the front door. One time she accidentally opened a package of mine, realizing her mistake immediately texted me apologizing and informed me she would be sure to make sure she checked the name on the package. She was wonderful and if I wasn't home or she wasn't home we would both grab each others packages and put them inside our unit so they wouldn't get nicked. One time she accidentally left her small old dog outside in the winter here in Canada. I knew something was wrong after her dog was barking for 10 minutes straight and I brought the dog inside my place and messaged my neighbor she was very grateful and felt so bad she had forgot her dog outside before leaving for an hour.

2:40 Yeah... going to the bathroom should not be something that the manager or co-worker must be informed about unless it is going to take more than 10 minutes. In my country, it is normalised that staff isn't always behind the counter so people wait a minute and then ring the bell if it is urgent. It's totally human to be in need of a toilet break (whereas it is not normal or acceptable to take a smoking break or randomly disappear from the building entirely without notice). Needing 'permission' to use a certain toilet or anything of that sort sounds controlling and would make me look for another establishment if a discussion won't resolve this issue.

I have had 2 instances where my lack of shame about my period disturbed people at work. I am not a complete ass about it but if pushed I can be. The first was when I worked in a call center for tech support for an ISP. I was not feeling well. I was cramping and I had to rush to the bathroom because my period decided to show up a few days early. So I make a mad dash to the bathroom to clean up and such. I had a male supervisor who would literally keep track of peoples phone codes and asked me why I ran for the bathroom when I only had 20 minutes to break. I said "Well...there is 3 things a lady would do in the bathroom...and if you insist I can go into vivid detail about colour, viscosity and all the other details of it."He went pale and backed off and said"n..no i'm good." He never bothered me again about it. The other time was a male co worker who was..lets say innocent about somethings in the world. I was walking with a pad in my hand because I was wearing a dress at the time and had no pockets so I have the pad which the wrapper is bright orange. The co worker being somewhat nosey asked. "what's that?!" I said "you don't want to know man.." And i moved to keep walking...he stopped me and asked again and again I told him you don't want to know. He again asked and I said "It's a pad!" He looked confused and said "Like...a note pad?" And I was cranky and in pain so I said "No its a sanitary pad to catch the blood and clots currently flowing my my vagina." He also went pale and backed off so I could go to the bathroom. So yeah please people if you see a woman or...Honestly anyone heading to a bathroom with some kind of urgency just leave them alone, Because they might be like me and will tell you alllllll about it. At mu current job is someone says "I am going to the bathroom." at least one of us at least once or twice a week will yell out "Have a good poop!" to which most of us will reply "I will!"

Yeah, one of my classmates in high school learned a very valuable lesson about not going in other people's stuff and asking invasive questions. For context, I'm a demiguy and afab, the rest of my class was amab, and I used to have a period till I evicted my uterus. A classmate asked me for a post-it note (my bag literally got the nickname "Mary Poppins bag" due to how much it held for it's size), but for some reason decided not to wait when I said "One sec, lemme finish this conversation" (I was on the other side of the classroom) so he went in my bag himself. Found a stack of bright pink post-its and tried to rip off the top one...yeah, it wasn't post-its. Pad went flying through the air landing in another classmates lap. He was the youngest of 5 and the only boy, so he was completely unfazed and just handed it back to me.
And somehow the first classmate still didn't learn. Fast forward a few weeks and I'm grumpy because I didn't get nearly enough sleep in pursuit of perfect grades so I would get yelled at less. But no, he's a genius and knew "exactly" what was wrong with me. Or as he put it, in a mocking sing-song voice _"I know what's wrong with Waffles"._ I looked him dead in the eye (and I hate eye contact) and calmly replied "No, that was last week". The room went dead silent except for the sound of my teacher laughing his ass off. Figured out who just tolerated me, and who wasn't an ass that day, but never heard a peep about my period from anyone in that room for the rest of high school. With the exception of my best friend (who I'm still friends with over a decade later) who could tell I was feeling off and would just check in to make sure it wasn't anything else.

    I got a story.
About a week ago I was coming out of the hardware store and this total stranger started talking to me. At first I wasn't sure if he was addressing me till like the third time he called out and I looked around to see just me and him.
He starts asking me questions about where I've gone to school which I didn't answer because frankly it's not his business. He then starts asking me what church i go to and what god i pray to. This kind of thing really gets on my nerves because I have dealt with religious types all my life. I usually give them the benefit of the doubt but this guy had annoyed me already with probing personal questions so when he asked what god i pray to i told him the truth of my personal beliefs using the same tone of voice I've heard from pastors and church people.
I told the guy that my religion doesn't follow any god. No god, no devil, no heaven, no hell. No sin. No reward or punishment for the life you lead. When I leave this world I will be embraced by the eternal Void and cease to exist in every concept of the word.
He questioned a few times about if i wanted eternal life singing praises in heaven and meet everyone I've ever loved, etc.
Told him "No. Life has been enough for me so far. Having it continue for eternity would be a curse in my eyes. Plus in so many faiths you have to stay on a narrow path your god sets before you or you are punished eternally. The Void does not require these things because the Void does not know sin. Good and evil are equally welcomed with open arms into the consuming nothingness of the Void. The does not require songs or sacrifice or prayers. It does not make you feel bad for living your life and demand that you request forgiveness for anything."
Then i stepped in closer with a smile "The Void will accept you as you are. You have nothing to prove to the Void and it will never ask you to obey it or fear it. It will embrace you the same as everyone else and we will all become nothing together."
He backed up and turned around and made a hasty, but polite exit away from me saying that he had people waiting for him and he really had to be going to see them.
I was laughing about that for the rest of the day.

@@ebty4969 Many find it frightening but i personally find it a comfort.
That there is no "other side" and this life, this existence is what you get so go get your happy.
And you don't have to worry about some controlling parent figure in the great beyond that wags a finger at you disapprovingly if you step out of line nor throngs of followers pleading you to join their group so they can "save" you. Because there's just one place that all souls go to upon death. The Void. We all can all have the peace of non-being.
Which for me i think is like sleep. Not the dreaming sleep but those periods of sleep where you have _absolutely_ *_no_* awareness at all. Those moments that you can't remember in between dream periods.

I believe in Jesus and heaven & hell, but I also have strong disagreements with others who share my baseline beliefs and express those beliefs in a far less... "Love thy neighbor" and "do unto others" ways than I interpret our Scripture. I cannot force someone who claims the same faith as me to actually believe & behave exactly like me, so why would I expect anyone else to immediately adopt my faith? Also with such wildly different examples of people claiming to be following the same Scripture, I assume that everyone everywhere is sceptical.
My point is... Your answer and explanation of your own worldview/faith (I'm a bit lost on proper terminology here) was fantastic! If that guy had truly wanted to share his faith, then he would been willing to listen to your perspective on eternity. Assuming that he's christian and not one of the "similar keywords but significantly different models", then he skipped the part about being willing to continue the conversation about the faith even when challenged.

@@keshacarlson155 Thank you. I admit i identified as a Christian for many years but sadly in my teens it started to make me bitter and angry and resentful and worst of all, judgemental. When I became aware of it I looked hard at my life and my path that far and how i got there. I started to question a lot of things and i started researching other faiths and looking into them. I wanted to know if God was real and if he was then why was the world so awful.
I found answers that worked well enough for most but they didn't satisfy me. I never heard God calling me to church or to walk a certain path, the silence was deafening for me.
I became agnostic and with much therapy i started to realize that I didn't even believe in the existence of the soul really. I felt nothing magical inside. Just my own conscience guiding my actions. No soul, just an emptyness. And that was when i started to trust in my own self and my own abilities and my gratitude for this self determination is to that lack of anything special. That void in me. And then after more years of introspection and becoming a believer in optimistic existential nihilism i found a lot of comfort in the idea that when i die i will not continue on, i will be nothing. As much nothing as a digital picture that's not saved before a blackout.
I'm 42 now and while I say i am an atheist at the end of the day that is still a kind of faith not too dissimilar from religion. So if I'm going to hold a belief in nothingness then i will treat it as valid as every other belief in the world.
My bff as well calls herself a "void entity" and I think thats cool.
Faith is a hard thing to shake. It took me a lifetime to find one that brings me peace.

Could we do more of r/LGBT, maybe branching out into r/ActualLesbians and r/Egg_irl?
Other than that, could we have more r/Hellsome? I miss r/Hellsome, and it feels appropriate in the leadup to the release of the Cerberus Duck!

Once on easter, when we still had bunnys, my mom took some of the hay from the hutch and scattered it in the house. I just remember coming down the stairs with my mom „complaining“ about how the easter bunny made such a mess. That was the best easter of my life!
Or she pulled little pranks on us telling she saw the „Christkind“ (somewhat what we call Santa in this region) just fly away.
Let kids have their childhood beliefs! It makes it so much better.

This is something that always had me weirded out. Back in Belgium, I don't remember ever having called someone and they answered saying their name.
The usual thing to say when you pick up the phone is "allo?".
But now I live in Germany and like everyone says their name when they pick up the phone. I was told never to do that when I was young, so I still don't do, and people have to ask if it's me. Which isn't that easy for them as my name has 2 of these very french nasal sounds (you know, the like of in - on - un - en)

regarding the first one: I have IBS and in 8th grade I had a math teacher who loved to power trip and made it a point of pride to never let students not go to the bathroom. Well, IBS doesn't wait for anyone for any reason. I was also 14 and I didn't give a fuck, hated that teacher, and one day I asked if I could go to the bathroom (the gates of hell were about to open) she said no, I should have went before her class (I would like to point out when were we supposed to go before her class? We had four other classes before hers and we still did the elementary school line up style of switching classes). I said "Well, I gotta shit." And walked out. I mean it was either the toilet or the floor. I was enough of a loser that nobody bullied me about it or made fun of me, or maybe I'm too autistic to notice lmfao.

18:10 Ive had people question if im really a guy because i have really soft features, to the point ive been told id be a pretty girl. So GN bathrooms were a heaven sent when i for to college. At one point in my extremely homophobic and transphobic school some guy even peeked over the stall. When some people feel the need to ask if I *really* am a guy, I will get into uncomfortable detail about my weewee piercings, I make sure i say "imagine" just so they might think of the discomfort

I always find it funny that Roger Taylor, the Queen drummer who looked ruggedly handsome like the lead characters in the movies, became an extremely beautiful schoolgirl in the music video for "I want to break free".
And to male it funnier, Brian May, who does have a somewhat female vibe, was one of the ugliest women in that vid 😂
