    I wanna talk about the fact that the Damelio sisters have been left out of this narrative. They have been spotted at these parties and I feel like we all just collectively looked away Bc they’re so likable. Charli being the biggest influencer on Tik tok (and arguably with the younger demographics) we should be holding her to a higher standard as well. I give it a pass because I assume she’s only 15 and this is a new world she’s stepped into, but it should be talked about.

    • @minkg8178
      @minkg8178 Před 3 lety +203

      What worries me about the sisters is that at least one of them, if not both, are underage, so their parents had to sign off on them going to parties during a pandemic, plus those parties are with older kids and at the very least alcohol will be around and probably more than that. What are their parents thinking?

    • @xosecox12
      @xosecox12 Před 3 lety +43

      I think it’s because we’re more mad at the parents who have the right to keep them from attending these parties. Nikita, for example, is an adult. She made her own choice and no one but herself can truly stop her. Charli and Dixi have parents who should be forcing them to stay home because they are young enough for that type of authority to be appropriate and necessary. But I do get your point. I think after the Tati situation with James and all the drama with Danielle Cohn, youtubers are nervous about going after minors or anyone who is significantly younger than them

  • @danicee
    @danicee Před 3 lety +1268

    Also I think the reason these influencers are “working” may actually be that they aren’t making a lot of money because they’ve screwed themselves with their rates through their management, rent and lifestyle expenses. It’s why they live together, it’s how they are able to keep up appearances by looking like they live this lavish, exclusive lifestyle meanwhile it’s this toxic, competitive “home-work” experiment. Not saying they deserve more money, I honestly think brands that turn to them for marketing, sponsorships and brand deals should pull back. Maybe that’ll make them realize they need to stop throwing parties and hanging out for clout

    • @MartinaGiovese
      @MartinaGiovese Před 3 lety +87

      True, but it's well known that many of these influencers (esp the ones put in houses together) are backed by huge millionaire investors. They basically buy these kids their mansions and back them so long as they constantly produce content, and are "profitable" enough to justify it. So I'd bet most of this is plain arrogance rather than financial issues. I do agree that their personal spending habits def play into this tho.

    • @scoutlaceharding
      @scoutlaceharding Před 3 lety +63

      Brands should absolutely pull back. We need to remember to hold the companies backing these people responsible, not just the creators themselves. You know what I don't think is advertiser or family friendly? Partying in a pandemic like you don't care who you casually murder for views.

    • @taylorbryant4813
      @taylorbryant4813 Před 3 lety +13

      I totally agree however big brands aren’t ethical and are chasing money. Only thing to shut them down is the people. People have to band together to stop supporting big brands who support creators who are reckless and then we could see a change. However people don’t take you tubers or TikTok serious enough to see the damage that’s being done.

    • @8LyJu8
      @8LyJu8 Před 3 lety +2

      The problem isn't their expenses, but how the manage their money. They should save, reinvest, diversify their incomes. They could be multimillonaires without YT/TikTok money, but lask basic financial knowledge and they don't care about gaining it.

    • @danicee
      @danicee Před 3 lety +1

      Lucía Blaügeschutz reality is that they’re millionaires because of CZcams, TikTok and IG but because their wealth was earned because of “flex” culture they have to continue to show off their wealth with clothes, cars, vacations, parties, and jewelry. Most started when they were in their early teens and it’s not something we learn about when we’re in school, at least not until high school. To think that someone at the age of 15, 16, 17 could be a millionaire is mind-blowing, but many are & they need to constantly one-up themselves and each other to stay in the spotlight so 🤷‍♀️

      On a related note, I feel like I’ve really “cleaned out” a lot of toxic people. How you act during a pandemic and how you show your concern for other people says a lot about you as a person. I went to high school with someone who is now a nurse. I always thought she was so nice. She works in a COVID unit in Florida currently and still goes to parties and jokes about giving everyone COVID-19. I immediately unfollowed her because she showed no respect for human life despite her job title. Same with who I subscribe to on CZcams. I’ve been mostly consuming content from smaller youtubers because they aren’t so detached from the rest of us. I’m also more inclined to notice dishonesty and manipulation. I feel like I have a really positive and informative feed now. I hope this is the year of entitled, out of touch people falling and having to wake up to recover from it. Seriously tho, I don't get why these influencers can't just stay home, like they are rich and famous so they're going to starve and die like people are losing theirs jobs left and right and barely getting by. Some people are unfortunate enough to have to social distance with their abusers and the shelters are having to limit beds due to pandemic. There are homeless people who don't even have a place to social distance. Not to mention all the people who DIED from this virus
    Yet the only thing that concerns these vapid influencers is PARTYING unlike with protest when something actually important was at stake.
    They're literally making things worse.
    At this time the reason people should be out and about is if it's for their jobs and they can't work from home or if they can't find a safe place to go

    I have found so many amazing creators since quarantine started, and all of them are sitting in their homes making really good content. It's so clear that without the ability to steal clout from one another, the whole Hype House/Sway House Industrial Complex completely falls apart. Very few of them really have the talent necessary to exist on their own on any platform. This fall is going to be incredibly tough for the age demographics that watch those creators especially with reopening and reclosing and distance learning going on, and the age of the apolitical influencer needs to be over.

      Amie Marie Creative Some people were demonitized because of BLM or mentioning the pandemic in their video, so that also plays a role for why some creators lost income, depending on their content. But I understand your point. At the end of the day, they’re still in a more privileged position than the average person. I had to accept a horrible job offer because I wasn’t eligible for unemployment due to my temp job expiring as planned and the job i was supposed to have after falling apart because of COVID. I never signed anything because I was going to start in April and found out in March that they were canceling the position. Since I wasn’t laid off and my temp job was going to end in March anyway, I was denied. I had no choice but to accept a job that pays me $25,000 less than I was previously earning. So CZcamsrs who can still make a good living even if the paychecks are slightly smaller than usual complaining about “not making money” is just in poor taste. It’s like when Tana and Shane talk about how poor they are in their mansions and designer clothes

      We may watch more contents and they may get 10 times more views, but since brands are paying 20 times less for ads, they receive way less money at the end.

So yeah you’ve got the very wealthy people going to parties in Hollywood, and then you have working people needing to go back to work despite the risks because everyone needs food and healthcare and schooling and amazon packages delivered etc. Not to mention people having to go to beaches ... the beaches aren’t going anywhere they’ll still be there after covid!!
    Thankfully not everyone, and there are idiots everywhere! But whenever I hear about things happening in LA, I get extra pissed!! Because who will get better treatment? Some influencers with too much undeserved money who HAD to go to a party or an unhoused person(LA has the second largest homeless population in the US!), nurse, teacher, community leader, minimum wage worker,farm worker etc etc etc. who got sick having to work for this unjust capitalist system??? You are absolutely right. Saying that their actions say "I don't care if other people are dying/homeless/sick/hungry" is exactly harsh enough. I'm a frontline medical worker and a nursing student and I'm lucky enough that I can still make money and be stable during these times. Even still it TERRIFIES me to think I might end up being an asymptomatic carrier and get someone more vulnerable than me sick. I can't even wrap my head around being so selfish.

  • @maddie4190
    @maddie4190 Před 3 lety +22

    To me, these people going to these parties and doing wrong things in general that will be shown on social media seem to not care. They know that if it gets posted that they went, they will apologize and will have still gotten to do what they wanted (which was go to the party). They knew from the beginning what they were doing was wrong, so to me, like why even apologize when you went into it knowing you weren’t supposed to be out.

What I would love to see is some different creativity from these creators. I would actually be interested in seeing what they are up to while staying home. Thank you for talking about this entitlement and how harmful the justifications feel when industries of people cannot make a living. As a musical theater major who works on cruise ships ( a live performance singer/dancer) We cannot make a living, and most of us do not have residences or cars due to the nature of our jobs, to be able to find and keep another job just to survive nor are we eligible for unemployment. It’s sad that this entire industry has gone so unnoticed as well as our struggle. I’m sure you can empathize as a theater kid yourself. Always look forward to your insights. Much love.

    Round of applause 👏 I love that you are talking about this. The apologies whether real or not is BS cuz when they do it again and are caught on camera then it'll be another BS apology and it won't stop. The fact that they don't care is terrible. They shouldn't have to have someone they really truly love and care about die because of covid, I pray no one experiences that, but it's like is that what has to happen for them to realize the severity in this? Again, not what I want just using that as the only example I can think of. Idk this whole thing is crazy and if they're worried about not working and making money for a year (even though they are) do they think continuing to spread this virus won't make that year turn to longer??

    You are so absolutely right. Your points are seriously spot on. Even with bigger celebs like Kylie Jenner, she posts her dressing up to go out.... but you were preaching to stay home and isolate in the earlier months of Covid. It doesn’t make sense that everyone was freaking out when Covid first hit and preaching to their followers to stay home but now that the situation is 10 TIMES WORSE THAN WHEN IT STARTED people are acting more relaxed and not influencing people to stay home anymore. I get it we’re all sick of being home and not being able to live our previous life but WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT. this situation is not known and things pop up that we can’t control. We won’t have control or have any idea on when this will become containable until we all stay home for a while and let the actual scientists do their jobs. I get it, it pisses people off to be told “what to do” but why don’t you sit back and realize this is a new situation FOR BILLIONS OF PEOPLE!!! You cannot have a title of an “influencer” if your not influencing people to do the right thing!!! PLZ GO VOTE IF YOUR 18 and up!!!

    I think you hit the nail on the head when you said if they can't make 'good content' without the crutch of a bunch of other people or having a literal party, perhaps they shouldn't be in the business of creating content to begin with. And that's the thing, while there is absolutely a lot of talented and interesting, funny, creative youth out there on these platforms, a lot of them. . . aren't those things. And they aren't used to having to come up with something interesting to do or say, they aren't used to having to actually CREATE something for viewers. So now they must create the only other thing available to them: Drama.

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video! As a person suffering from an immunity disorder, I KNOW I would either be really sick or dead if I were to get COVID and it is terrifying when I see pictures of these irresponsible people (sadly some of them are not kids) partying and then hear them say “Well, I won’t get too sick so I will risk it”! They are in an age group where being asymptomatic is common and encouraging other people to disregard the guidelines meant to keep those of us at risk safe is like a huge middle finger to us. My 17 year old would love to hang with his friends and play basketball again but he doesn’t because he loves his mom. Ok, rant over, lol, but I appreciate you bringing attention to the problem!
