  • I don’t often post vlogs here that are strictly personal, but this one is a little important to me! When I tell people that I have autism, many don’t believe me. They can’t imagine that someone like me - a woman in her thirties - can exist on the autism spectrum, and that’s because not only is autism one of those things that’s different for everyone, BUT it doesn’t help that the mainstream idea of autism often only focuses on one stereotype.
    I’m here to talk about my experience having ASD. Feel free to skip this if you’re only here for the writing videos - I just wanted to be more open and maybe give a little insight to people who may be interested! 🥰

    I am a new follower of your channel, not because of this video, but I just wanted to say I appreciate you sharing your story. My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed with high functioning autism along with some other things a couple of years ago. I agree that Autism is greatly different from person to person. Thank you for sharing.

      Thank you so much! I'm so glad your daughter was able to get a diagnosis so young, if only because so many girls go overlooked by professionals until they're adults, and I'm sending you two good vibes! I wish nothing but the best for you both! 💖

    I’m in the process of being evaluated for ASD at 27 and have found that the one thing that has been the most helpful in understanding my differences from others has been hearing voices like yours on CZcams. Doctors, teachers, and parents have been so dismissive for years and I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

      Thank you so much! I'm glad you were able to find something in this rambling mess, haha. I know what you mean about essentially being dismissed by so-called professionals over the years -- when I was really struggling in high school, my doctors would just brush off my concerns and when my mother kept pushing, they just prescribed me medication for depression because they couldn't be bothered to get to the root of what was making me feel so bad. I'm so glad you're on the path of understanding yourself and finding yourself, and I wish nothing but the best for you!! 💖

    I am constantly blown away by your insight and bravery. This video captures you in a way that is inspiring and uplifting and I am so proud of your accomplishments, but more proud of your self awareness. Your vlog has the potential to help so many people begin to understand Autism and I hope you will consider posting it on all the social platforms you use. Thank you so much for sharing. Sending lots of love!

      It was definitely really weird to talk about this stuff, but also really affirming at the same time! Thank you so much! After editing and seeing all of my normal "uh"s and "you know"s sprinkled in, with my normal lack of eloquence lmao, I was a little worried how this video would go over. But I'm definitely going to share it to my other social medias, just in the hopes that it gives more people better insight. Sending love right back at you! 💖💕

      LOL, well your uh's and you knows weren't noticeable at all. Good job, sweetie.

    This is really important and I'm glad you had the strength to do so. Somethings I can relate to as someone with dyslexia and afraid of being seen as stupid but luckily I was good at hiding and working around so most people would not notice but now I'm more open about my disabilities and I do think it takes time to get there. So good for you and this will definitely help someone. 💜

      It just sucks that we internalize it rather than asking for help. Like all the misunderstandings as children, we just think “oh well that’s MY fault cause I’m just too stupid to get it,” when really, if we’d felt safe enough to ask for clarification or a different way of having it explained, we would’ve been saved a lot of grief! The world seems to be changing a little in that people are realizing that kids don’t all learn the same way, so I hope one day we get to a point where kids are never afraid to ask for help and fear being seen as stupid.
      Thanks girl! And I agree that it takes time to get comfortable, because we spend so long being uncomfortable ugh. But yeah, thank you! 💖

    I appreciate the time you took to bring awareness to autism. My son was diagnosed at 13. He struggles socially and he masks to try and fit in. It’s been a difficult road for him. Your video was very enlightening for me and gives me hope for him 😊 Thank you.

      Thank you so much! I felt kind of bad re-watching because I feel like I say SO MUCH without actually saying anything at all, haha, but if you got even one thing from the video, I'm so, so happy! 💕 I'm sending your son (and you!) as many good vibes as I can, and I hope things only get better for him as he comes into his own with his diagnosis!

    I have APD so I hear you on the hearing fine but not able to process the sounds. Thank you for sharing this, April, I appreciated hearing your words.

    • @aprilkayauthor
      @aprilkayauthor  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s the worst! When people get mad at me for asking what too many times, AFTER I’ve explained my processing to them, it’s just like “alright, guess I’ll go F myself then!” At least it lets me know who’s worth my time and who isn’t!
      And thank youuu~ 💖

    Thank you for making this video. My daughter is 5 and is being evaluated for a possible Autism diagnosis. One of my biggest worries is how it would affect her throughout her life. As a parent, you really eased my mind, thank you.
