My next painting will be TEETH đŠ·đŠ·đŠ·
I wonder if you guy's critic eachothers work too, or if that is off limits đ đ
Shots fired!
lol
Complex and detailed teeth over a simple and no detail face.
đđžđïžđđ do it! Get your teeth into it đ
I would disagree with the first one about teeth. It also depends on a context. But even here.
I totally like the original better. The teeth are really well done.
Me too. I liked the original one :3
I came here to say the same thing. The original was actually less distracting and felt more cohesive.
Definitely the original because it fit with the art style the artist was going for. After he tweaked it, the teeth stood out too much because of this difference.
I don't get it too. Like how can an artist tell other artist what to do? Still don't get it..
07:36 - 07:40 my favorite moment, when the painting made him so happy - he zoned out for full 4 seconds. Wonderful!
đ
Find yourself someone who will look at you like Alpay looks at that cat đ€Ł
Seriously no one explained the Leonardo one? So in the beginning of the movie Jack 'saved' Rose from 'falling' of the Titanic, (actually she wanted to kill herself by jumping off the ship, because she had to get marrried to an asshole for money) he then later asked her fiancĂ©'s bloodhound Lovejoy for a cigarette. But him being poor af he took two and put one behind his ear 'for later'. So the reference picture is accurate. Klassisch geschnorrt. đ Tolles Video wie immer.
I actually like the extra Bateman in the American Psycho painting. He is supposed to be the perfect narcissist, so having just him again in the reflection makes total sense to me.
Agree but also agree that it's a missed opportunity to have it show a different side to the character....if the reflection was admiring itself, for example, it would just elevate it so much more. It's still fantastic though!
To watch this kind of critics is SUCH a great way to learn! Thank you to everyone that post their art for this video.
I don't agree with erevything, but this is a good show!
Leonardo DiCaprio painting is Jack from the movie "Titanic", and he really smoke one cigar whille holding another at his ear, he is actually a painter too.
âThese splatter effects⊠donât, yeah donât do these ever again.â đ Some of your side comments crack me up. Maybe Iâll have the guts to request a roast from you soon.
Do it!
I actually liked the splatter xD
@@AngryPanda. Yeah I dunno, it looks like the artist tried to visualize his emotions with the splatters. I don't think it's a bad idea at all, though they are incorporated a little bit awkwardly.
The splatter is amazing đ€©
*don't know why but alpay getting annoyed by the extra cigarette on leonardo's ear is so fricking funny to me lol.* đ
Yes! I love how he had to get back on that. Like, the video is almost over..but he just couldnt shake it offđđ
@@propelakarlson7260 ikr! i mean, finish the first cigarette and move on to the next idk. đ
And he actually had a second one on the ear on this part of the movie...
Yeah actually in the movie where he asked the rich guy for a cigar after being a hero he took two and put one on heâs ear lol
Oh mein Gott. I mean I already noticed that that you are not a native English speaker but never would I have guessed that you are German...đČ
Love your art. Love your videos. Keep on doing it, you're great!
Mega Video, freue mich schon auf part 4đ
I could guess he's German from the moment he opened his mouth, and I am not an English native speaker.
The cigarette one that is bothering you is referenced from the movie Titanic. And yes the character commonly has a cigarette in his mouth while he is smoking one.
Yes, it would be difficult any other way, lol!
1:19 - "Why you do this? Why? What does it do? What is it for? It doesn't make any sense? This is what people often associate with, like, pretentious art that kinda does things just for the sake of doing it."
Weird to see you critique someone for painting a perfectly good portrait and then smearing color on it for no reason...
i dont think he was talking about color my man
@@lazar2949 What is he talking about then?
@@lazar2949 so what he was talking then my man?
@@lazar2949 we are waiting my man
The baby with a big head...what if his hair is just fluffy and he really looks like that...you just called him an anatomy error, LOL
Iâm the one who painted the miniature at 8:03!!! Thank you so much chi for the critique, I was very careful when deciding my palette, glad you complimented it!
Great job! I love it!
I agree with you in most of your critics, especially the realistic ones where you criticize anatomical knowledge, teeth and overdetailing. However, what I've observed in your critisizm is that your focus is mainly on easthetics. While that is acceptable in professional artists that have been there in their previous experience and experinments (coloring, drawing based) I don't believe the art is only meant for the eyes. I think it is also meant for the brains and the heart. And I don't know what your other followers think but I would appreciate these critics more if you could also regard the pieces on this subjects and comment on these thoughts as well.
These are my critics on your critisizm, though I'm not a professional artist or an old follower, just wanted to let you know.
Have a good day.
This was really fun xD
I disagree on some of them though:
The one with the realistic dude mixed with the comic book characters i'm not sure about, i think it'd look odd to have all the characters on the left side, and if you still had the hulk on the right also it would be too cluttered
The one with the old guy and the black space on the left.. i feel like it was just enough black. Sometimes a sense of "void" is good! It feels contemplative, almost meditative, like that sense of "i am just a speck in the universe"
And the splatter in the one with the lakers player... kinda crazy, but i love it xD ! The exuberant energy he has is exactly what the splatters convey - untidy, chaotic.. if anything I'd like to have seen more of them splash off-canvas rather than swimming around so neatly within the composition!
Yea I feel the same about the comic layout... exactly my thoughts too .. cant comment on the others yet i havent seen them yet still watching :)
I feel the same about the guy and the black space: because he's looking at something distant in that direction, the blank space suggests there's something more. The subject here isn't the guy on his own, but his stare and what he's supposedly looking at. But maybe covering a bit more would have helped, leaving just a third of the image black
I agree with you on the realistic guy in the void because the painting as a whole follows the rule of thirds to an extent. The plane of the face takes up about the center third of the painting. I do think the composition could have been zoomed out a bit if you will. I'm kind of living for the negative space, especially because it's a fairly even tone of black
I love it when you go back to German just for a split second.
really shows how genuine you reactions really are ^.^
Alpay, you crack me up every time lol. I like to pause the video before hearing what youâll critique, and try to figure out what youâll say. Itâs actually a good way for me to learn.
Thank you as always for these videos. Not sure how you find time!
â€ïž đš đ
You have such an obvious soft spot for fantasy characters!đ Great roast again!đđ
I enjoy watching these because as you give your opinion, you also include how you would approach the piece. And in doing so, you share good tips that we can apply in our own art. đđŒ
nice I made it into the roast at 10:20 !! I was curious so I overlaid my reference and the final and it's actually pretty close, sean astin really just has a heavy set jaw haha. but the center line is a bit off which is something I'm realizing I struggle with so I will take it. Thank you Alpay!
I wanted to say I really love your roast videos I feel like I learn a lot from them (including how to take helpful criticism). Of course art is subjective but I think it comes down to whether the parts you critique are done with intention from the artist to subvert conventions or just from lack of awareness. Your suggestions are really helpful, and whether people take them or leave them it guides artists towards what to consider when making their art which is always a good thing! :-)
I always love the humor of these roasts! I would totally get super roasted if I submitted a painting, mainly because of my terrible background work. I can never get those right unless theyÂŽre chiaroscuro paintings.
Oh my God, i had totally forgotten that in a moment of courage i did submit something to be roasted and was totally taken by surprise đ but hey now i know i need to work on composition đ i havenât studied art so it is helpful to know what iâm lacking (oh and yaayyyyy itâs my painting in 15:36 đ )
But I love your painting. I am an a school specifically for Arts and design (also dosenât mean iâm an expert). In my opinion the big blank spot is not the main problem, i just think you had to zoom the painting a bit out, so that there are a bit mor dark areas on the right sight. So it donât gets too heavy in the left. Other than that youâre very talented specially in the colorationâ€ïž
@@maxbenoit2973 thank you so much i really appreciate it đ i actually kinda get what you mean, i'm kinda learning by trial and error đ and maybe i should be more methodical about it. thank you so much for the encouragement
You are very talented!
@@DocBree13 thank you so much
Looks good.
This is so cool, especially everytime he gives a pro tip to improve awesome looking paintings
So interesting! I actually liked the composition of the spider man piece, but love hearing your thoughts on everything! Brilliant feedback, very thought provoking.
Great video! Thanks so much. I love the idea for painting teeth, great advice. Excellent critique and great tips about composition. Blessings and take care.
I think the teeth look better before his 'Improvement"!
"These splatter effects here? Don't... I don't... don't, uh....don't do this ever again. Please." Omg, these roasts are so funny. I've made similar mistakes in my own work so this has been helpful. There is one creepy, gross painting here that I wish I can unsee...
I love your humor & perspectives. Your videos are clear & inspiring!
As an art teacher⊠and NO HATE FR hear me out đ
ik this is a roast and itâs supposed to be funny, but just in case for those of you who are going to take it more seriously (cuz the line between roasting and critique is rly fine esp in art and you rly do want to improve) - id say no need to listen to everything Alpay says. No hate but I disagreed a lot with his critiques đ Thereâs no rule in art! If you want to paint the teeth then paint the teeth lol. There are literally so movements out there past and present. Alpay has an established style and thatâs great but he will be speaking from that specific train of thought. Yours can be completely different and in yours the teeth maybe highlights the personality in your subject. Or maybe you want to show the grittiness in the atmosphere. Idk. Point is you can still be a bombass artist regardless of whatever art rule you hear from anyone! Just do you. Thatâs what will make you shine.
I kinda agree. However, these artists willingly submitted their pieces for him to "roast", so I think they already know that Alpay will be talking about them in his perspective. đ
I absolutely agree. Thanks for pointing it out.
I agree :)
I always think 'as long as you have a good reason for doing it a specific way, do it'.
I generally agree that painting the teeth individually doesn't add anything and makes the face look weird. If you put that much detail in that part of the face I'd say it needs a reason why the viewer should pay attention to the teeth.
Because they'll spend more time on the teeth than they should, so it makes sense when the teeth have a special meaning...
Like the titans in attack on titan for example. The teeth are important and we know that right away, but if your grandma doesn't eat people don't paint every single tooth of hers lol
It all comes down to "where do I want the viewer to look first and where should they end up focusing" and it's usually not the teeth đ
@@Anni_Mau Well said!
I absolutely agree. I called this a critique Show with an entertainment ingredient spiced with Alpay's charm. It is funny, especially I am not the one whose "art" is roasted. However, I personally see this critique as an expression of somebody's opinion and only, not more , not less. To be on the objective side, I found an interesting comments about some issues that I am struggling with ....
I adore depicting teeth individually, I think that picture has so much personality đ„°đ„°
danke fĂŒr die kritik :)
I feel like your 'profesional critiques' were more like personal preferences than advice to help people improve.
đŻ
great video as always! favorite paintings: the ork and leonardo dicaprio (scene from titanic with TWO cigarettes) đ€đ»
The Jack from Titanic painting is how it is in the movie he asks for 1 cigarette and takes 2 and puts one behind his ear for later and smokes the one in his mouth
Hi Alpay!! I enjoyed so much your critiques!! Bravo!!.. btw where to learn composition? Is there any course/book you would recommend? Thanks a lot!! and looking forward to seeing more of your work, as excellent as always.
We spent years trying to be a really good artists when in reality the worst artist are the ones who make all the money
"Ach du scheiĂe" was exactly my first thought when I saw that painting, too đđ But I kinda dig it. The cat is my favourite tho đ Your roast videos are really, really helpful, btw! You give so much advise here; it really helps my own painting decisions a lot even if it's not my paintings that you roasted. Just seeing little (or big) mistakes others made and hearing your tips đđ
14:14 hahah oh man your killin me with your humor and truthfulness
2:07 I think the artist wanted to show that in this social media era, the mind has so much to process that we can't focus on a single thing, and since every single corner is filled he must be a perfectionist đ
Nice critiques, very helpful to me looking at what you are referring to.
Nice warm roast as always Not cruel but thruthful and encouraging. I learn a lot from seeing art through your eyes and often time see the same mistakes in my own paintings. Its all about try and improving and failing occasionally. Lastly teeth. I'm also not a fan of teeth unless its on a dog/cat etc Even then I keep the colours restrained. Seen a few BeeGee's paintings in my time. đđđđ
Don't mind him. He's just bad at drawing teeth. You guys are doing great. .
Eventually I'll make it into a roast with a miniature ;) Glad someone is representing our "little" hobby in each roast at least!
In case anyone is wondering, the background song is Wesly Thomas - Paris Café
Ahhh, i made it into a roast!đđŹ (13:08) Thanks for the critique und Liebe GrĂŒĂe aus Deutschlandđ
â€ïž
It's so weird how a picture of a beautiful smile is great but as soon as you draw those teeth it looks awful lol
Just go easy on the darkness between the teeth and often youâll be fine.
You getting excited over the dogs ok a boat was really cute đđ„°
I liked Gandalf best... but that may be just because of the subject matter. I suspect the background problem was because it was done with watercolor pencils that didn't dissolve well, or with colored pencil on cold-pressed paper that had too much texture. I have fought with the paper texture when using colored pencils and lost... should have started with the correct paper.
You're a great painter- but i don't think you're right about the second or third image. Not every image needs to be absolutely clarified. They're interesting and very cool, especially the purple one. It's a bit chaotic and that's part of what makes it amazing.
The smudged lip is a matter of preference. I think it's an interesting touch to an otherwise fine portrait. That streak/smudge gives it personality. Maybe it could use another smudge, like around the eyes, but point still stands.
The smudged mouth looks contrived and gimmicky. Itâs the only thing that weirdly stands out in a relatively good image otherwise.
I can of course only give my own personal/professional opinion⊠at the end of the day itâs all subjective đ
I don't think it went far enough. It should look like it's really smeared as it would on a face.
Hehehh, alright you guuuuys. I get it. I completely agree with him now that i think about it. Honestly i didn't think of it much as i did it. Now im sweating here of embarrassment. đ đŹ
@@AlpayEfe agreed :)
Loved the video, the animal paintings are always top tier
Regarding the painting at 13:07 I love the almost cubist treatment of the neck and upper chest. It complements the art deco head scarf and the stained glass velvet blouse. Too bad the face isn't drawn very well, but I love the idea behind this one. I hope the artist will consider re-working the face, or doing the whole thing over again. I think it's great, and worth another try.
I made it to the end and even forwarded it to friends and family. I was most impressed. Love the art and love the stores......bravo
Such a good advice. Helped me alot
I like the Lord of the Rings painting. Now that you point it out, the background on the left without the pencil lines does look better than the right side
Omg just found all these. Need another one!!
i generally agree with the "no individual teeth" rule, but you kinda made them look weirder than they were before?
No... he didn't?
I like the teeth as a stylistic choice in that painting
I disagree about the teeth; it can be very interesting to get into the teeth and teeth can be descriptive to the character of the person you are painting.
These roasts never disappoint!! Hearing all of your insights is such a treat đ 10/10
đ
I personally find the overpaint of the teeth way more off. While most takes are objective the whole don't paint teeth thing always bothered me. How does a white blob look less weird? Sometimes it works but in this case it somehow made it worse. I'm also a professional btw
âLove me a good chicken paintingâ - a man after my own heart.
Your so funny man, Your videos always cheer me up right before painting. Your the best Bro
love these videos!! hysterical comments!!
Love this format for i've never seen such honest reviews before. I was wondering about this till i realized that you are german...
I learnt so much here it was unreal. To me all the paintings had flaws but also charm. It was interesting to see what you be done to make them better.
I love the humor of the roasts!
Jack in Titanic bums two cigs off another guy, putting one behind his ear for later and smoking the other one right away. At least thatâs what I remember.
Never expected to see mine here 13:55.

the tangerine painting comment got me! haha
Nice roasts. But Alpay , Leo in titanic did have a cig tucked behind his ear while puffing away one... Probably to be lit as soon as the current one is almost done đ. The painting was nice but bit bland. could've been better with some artistic strokes
I know, I know đ ⊠itâs been like 15 years since I saw that movie the last time
Thanks for roasting me at 10:10. In my defense, I must say that Julio CortĂĄzar, the reference, has very separated eyes (like a sloth) and I wanted to emphasize it. But looking again I agree that the eye needs to be repositioned :)
I loved the coconuts!!!đ
Bravo! this is exactly what the internet/social media world needs, honest critique. The only way we can get better is if we stop handing out participation trophies. Everyone gets so offended by any type of negativity or critique these days. Let's not confuse trolling with honest critique. I'm so disgusted with the phase " good vibes only". The truth is you do not get to choose someone else's reaction or opinion will be to what you create. As an artist and creator myself I welcome someone to critique my work. I overly critique my work personally but when someone else gives their opinion it adds a different perspective. Potentially one that I did not consider. I like to be challenged rather than praised. It's the only way that I can learn to grow. Great video and great production, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the critique Alpay!
