      I love acrylic paint too for those reasons your favorite part is the background? I like your painting style and accent, very interesting tips. I’ve found a lot of beginners start to freak out that they can remake the same color, but the variation actually what makes the painting more interesting, like you said.

    This channel has taught me a lot: but most of all, is that it's okay that we all have different taste.
    I am one of those people that doesn't like the background color splashed on/covering up the subject of the painting. I've seen lots of professional oil paintings that I don't consider to be boring that keep the background and subject seperate, and that's what I prefer. So my initial reaction was, "why does he work so hard on facial details or feathers or whatnot, only to cover it up?" But the more I watched, the more I realized he really loves this style of painting. It truly excites him as an artist and makes him happy, and there's clearly lots of other people that like this style too and want to purchase these pieces.
    So thank you for teaching me to respect and appreciate other styles 🙂

      I mean art is just so personalized. Why should you make it like a competition. Artists don’t have to win everyone’s heart. It just has to win their own hearts. and if lucky you will have some others loving yours, and that’s already being successful.

    • @arielceleda4897
      @arielceleda4897 Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, i thought the same about the "subject covering". He just like what he does and thats the point, thats all. The style sometimes is the personality. You connect with that thing, that level or not. Some are fast painters, some are perfectionists, like less saturated colors, others more color, some are lazy (about some parts of the picture), some like to make a masterpiece, other like "the boring stuff" (as still life, not boring to me), other like to paint the old masters, etc. I bet Alpay gots his reasons about how he paint... The enjoyment is the only thing that matters at the end (money too, but talking about the deep side of the artist). Best regards to all!!!

    You give great tips to paint with oils. I aply them to my acrylic paintings.
    I decided to paint only with acrylics, cus when I finally decided to use paint to my drawings I couldn't give the efects with oils, that I reached with charcoals or pencils. The tips you give here I aplyed them to acrylics and my paintings are more realistic like when I was using pencils or pastels.
    This renforce me never go back to oils. !!!

    Noob here! Just wondering: the first layer of green being an acrylic wash, is this because you paint allaprima (i just learned this) and you basically paint the painting in one go? Also: could you do this with oilpaint thinned out with a painthinner instead? Like a bit of green oilpaint with a lot of gamsol for example? Or does that take too long to dry?

      Hey. It’s called a “brayer.” They come made of wood & rubber mostly but for oil painting (& a necessary tool in cold wax oil painting) the rubber one is used. They come in a variety of sizes, from about 1 inch to 12. Having a few varied sizes is helpful. You can find them on Amazon, Michaels (if in the US) or any arts supply store. Have fun painting! ✨

    As a professional (and traditional) artist, I'm afraid I must give this one a thumbs down. One can't "over mix" oils. Speaking to this video, if it was titled: 'don't make mud', I'd be giving it a thumbs up. If this demo used a more complex painting example, the novice would better understand how oils should actually be used. Sometimes colors are mixed quite thoroughly, while at other times hardly at all. I depends upon the desired effect. As a for-instance here, I never use straight black, or, for that matter, straight white either. My darkest "blacks" contain no black at all, and the effect is much more vibrant and exciting. The other issue here, is that the background is flat and lifeless. Oh yes, I see dabs of color introduced, but they are soon lost into the gray mass. Seeing this as a portrait, even a slight variation in background color and value will immediately strike a sense of space around the subject. For all of you new to painting, use caution not to rely too much on shortcuts....
