Thank you for always being so honest. Before watching this I was scrolling through instagram seeing what other people had painted and feeling bad about myself because I can't just come up with compositions and paintings out of thin air. Very much like you said, I can also paint whatever I see, but I need something to look at, a reference picture to start with, and sometimes I feel bad about it. As if I'm less of an artist than those who come up with illustrations themselves. But you reminded me that I'm just a different type of an artist, and that is okay

Every time I tackle a piece I go through what in some industries is called pre-production hell.
Searching for references, planning, posing, etc.
One thing I realized really played against me was talking too much about a piece with people around me, creating this unnecessary pressure to deliver and please their hype.
Usually whatever I do has encouragement from my loved ones already, but sometimes I get betrayed by my own insecurities; I get terrified if I can't deliver and abandon the idea altogether most of the time. It feeds in itself and serves no purpose.
That's why I try to do less talking and more doing, I'll only speak about it if I need help.

I digital paint, and self learning. I am still building up my skills. Damn it's crazy to think 2 years passed since the witcher show came out. I started digital painting during the 2020 pandemic when I lost my job. Next year I am going to have to check my progress every 3 months and ask myself what I did do and didn't do in that time span. I realize now after learning how to digital paint, I was wasting a lot of time at work doing a bunch of nothing. When I do get a job next year I will make sure I have more ME time. I want to enjoy other things than be a slave to the job. If I can't I'll find other places in the world that will allow me to.
It's because of people like you that I see my worth now. Thank you.

"Uninspired" ?! You captured both Geralt's fire and his stoicism in one portrait. It is clear that this underwent a process of proving and rising in your mind for two years, like bread dough does before baking. Just because your execution was direct and simple does not make it "uninspired". Wonderful wonderful wonderful work. So glad I found your channel. Thank you for inspiring my painting process. Wow! I love the eyes, they are so piercing. It’s beautiful. What you said about how much time goes into a painting versus the research and all that goes into making it besides painting also goes for sculpture. I’ve spent hours on some pieces just finding good references. I have a reference folder with well over 10,000 photos and it takes time to go they some of them. Ok they are divided by movements and things like that…there’s a lot of sub folders lol and sometimes I have to go out and take my own photos if possible. Then there’s making armatures, preparing the clay or wax I’ll be using, cleaning my tools and all that. You sound a lot like me in what else you were talking about…being behind on trends and some things never do get realized. That’s me too but I bet that’s a good majority of artists. And that list! I should copy that down for people who think this is so easy and I’m not really working. If they only knew! Lol I guess it’s a darn good thing it’s my passion. I couldn’t not do art, it’s in my blood I guess, and again I’m betting that goes for most artists too. Thank you for sharing your talent with us and I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful paintings this coming year. You really do inspire me.

Oh hell yes! Fun fact though - Many decades after Geralt had taken on the name Geralt of Rivia because it sounded cool and more professional, he helped a small battle on a bridge over the Yaruga River and was knighted officially by the Queen of Lyria! He left the Queen not long after to continue his pursuit of Ciri, before his emblem could be designed and before the official paperwork was signed. But for a few short days, Geralt was truly Geralt of Rivia!

Hi Alpay. I graduated from art college with a degree in Fine Art in 2002. I was lucky to have a studio practice following that for about 3 years. Eventually the desire and drive to paint waned with various experiences, issues and beliefs and I stopped painting and packed up my studio for good in 2005. I didn't really pick up a brush for the years that followed. I tried a few times but it was always very hard either financially, creatively or practically. I had creative blocks that rumbled for over a decade, sometimes ebbing to allow me to paint basic portraits but never abating enough for me to resume a proper practice that I could sustain.
I started painting again at the end of last year and this morning I am going to be prepping my new studio space. This is my first time back in a proper art studio in 17 years. Coming back to something that was my reason for getting up in the morning is very strange and a little scary. I have so many tangled beliefs and ideas about what it means for me to be a creative person... I am a graphic designer by trade, but it has never been a passion. Painting is a deeply spiritual and emotional activity for me, way beyond what I can articulate in words. I got tearful just mixing up colours!
I just wanted to reach out and say how inspiring you are and how wonderful it is to watch you work. Your paintings and narration give me energy and hope for my own renewed practice. Thank you for sharing your work, your ideas and thoughts. In deepest gratitude. x

Tried to watch this three times today before I was finally able to sit down to it... Really good portrait! Now if I can just get enough time to finish Season 2!

Amazing job as always! I love your brushwork and it's so cool how you still finished the idea after 2 years. Definitely worth the wait!
(And I'd wait 20 more years for that Kratos painting if I had to 🙏)

Henry Cavill as Geralt is beautiful in your painting. He is a beautiful, romantic, flawed character in the Witcher books. Geralt is so often certain, I thought his instinct must always be correct. It’s not. I will say that the end of Geralt’s story in the books was extremely satisfying. I loved reading the series, tho you want to start with the book of short stories, The Last Wish.

Amazing painting! I drew him myself, not an easy topic. And I'm so happy I'm not the only one with this reference problem. 😁 Your videos always cheer me up. 🤩

Kool painting buh bro.. for two years I would of expected Hyper realism on a 12ft by 18ft canvas, the longest painting I’ve made took a about three weeks cause I waited for each layer to dry.

It was so worth the wait! I love it. Now I’m going to have to watch the series to see what the hype is all about. Happy New Year!
