Art teacher rant: The reason it turns out olive green and not bright green is that you used a warm yellow with a slightly orange tint and an ultramarine blue. it DOES matter which red yellow and blue you use. Primary colours are not ANY red yellow and blue! Only Lemon Yellow, Cyan blue (or cerulean) and Magenta red. any other hues will distort the result! We were given a set of watercolor paints and had to make a color wheel with a golden yellow, ultramarine blue, and “crimson” that was actually a red-orange color. I had to use gouache with them but she’ll never know 😭😂 but how were we supposed to do a color wheel without primary colors?

I like the paint sticks painting the best! Good work! I have found that painting with the oil sticks is best if you paint over acrylic, both paintings I have done were that way. The acrylic adds strength to the canvas and it doesn't bow as much.

I cringe when I saw “Oil sticks” they are the Bane of my existence! All joking aside, I became jaded with them because I was told by my visual art specific high school to buy it, and we were never taught how to use those stupid things (We were told to specifically to buy the Shiva oil sticks I remember), so we wasted money on sticks we weren’t even going to use or learn to use and they were a nightmare to use when I was a high school student. Part of it was due to the dried oil on top to keep it from fully drying out and it *was not explained this was the case*. So I’m going to be honest that I kinda wished you were given these back then so I could have at least learn what they did so I could use them more effectively back then lol.

    • @oosmosmoo

@@Kreyatura I always dampen it before starting the painting, then let it dry. You can also dampen it throughout the process too. Not sure about oils though. Once you are finished use a spray bottle and spray down the loose areas and it should tighten up! Hope that helps.

I have used these sticks before and they lay down the sketchy first layers so easy, then I used them in combination with my palette to mix more colors and apply them to the canvas. This eliminated the stretching of the canvas. If you want the canvas to tighten up you can spray the back with water and let it dry, then the canvas tighten up between coats. I would like to see you work with soft pastels? I have recently started using them and they have been quite a challenge! Let's see how you work with this rather difficult medium!! I suggest a CZcamsr to watch is Alain Picard If you can work in or like his style this is a great accomplishment! So Go Jazza Go!
