    -Nail art
    -Lego mosaic making (i.e. using lego pieces to make a kind of 2D mosaic)
    -Art with melting crayons
    -Marbling inks

    Something that would solve quite a bit of your frustrations with this medium is simply using the cap as a mixing palette!
    You mentioned that with watercolors you have more control of your pigment strength, but you didn’t seem to realize why that is. A major factor is that with watercolor you usually use a mixing surface to dilute your colors, you would almost never work directly from the pan or tube,. Despite the similarities between the two mediums you weren’t using a mixing palette with the liquid graphite at all, which means you were always going to pick up the graphite at full strength because you had no way to dilute the pigment into the water held in the brush.

    To get lighter tones when using the liquid graphite use a container that you add the graphite to in various quantities to get different shades of gray. This is the same technique used in regular watercolor painting.

      Honestly I think Jazza’s relatively little experience with watercolor was his downfall here. It’s uncommon for watercolor artists to go straight from the pan to paper, as the creators of the watercolor graphite likely knew and accounted for.

    There are Graphite pencils by Faber Castel that are water-soluble. I use those for that kind of artwork. Otherwise, I would suggest you use a ceramic water color palette (those pretty flower ones) to control the dilution better. I use those for ink wash aswell

      Yeah, all I could think of while watching him experiment and discuss his short comings with the medium was how much it reminded me of ink washes, because they too need an insane amount of dilution or otherwise lay really dark, etc.

      @@Phenrex I actually use them the same way I would use ink wash. Or when I have a graphite drawing where I want to have a more solid darker area. The good thing about them that once water-activated they don't smear and are secure on the paper (can't erase them either)

    I got some tubes of 'Derivan Liquid Pencil' (which where colour tinted) in a subscription box and I found it a very odd medium. Mixing it with watercolours was interesting, though and they gave some interesting effects when added to browns and greens.
    As far as dilution goes, I just treat it like watercolour and put it in my palette.

    They also have pencils with that graphite in them so you can draw in a traditional way and then blend with water

      You can actually make them yourself, my friends and I used to in high school. Very tightly wound white paper. Don't use newsprint.

    I hope Jazza sees this: there's a pencil by Koh-i-Noor that writes on MEAT. That's a video by itself. From what I gather the pencil is non toxic and you can consume the meat afterwards without wasting it.
    Edit: Koh-i-Noor has some if the most craziest pencils I've seen, and I'm not talking about those with the multi-colored cores! Worth checking out :)

      Any meat you could draw on would spoil before you even finished any artwork on it. That’s such a dumb idea for an art tool. It’s probably made for inspectors and butchers not artists.

    Why didn’t you make a pallet for the liquid graphite? In watercolour you often mix a colour on a palette to make sure you have a consistent colour for something

      Yes I was thinking that whilst he was trying to explain about not getting good consistency. It would just help to mix. But I like the really dark lines which look almost charcoal like.

    I’m only 35 seconds in and despite the fact that I watch Jazza regularly I am still somehow amazed at how good he is at art. I think it’s because he does lots of challenges and obviously digital art and more cartoony and simple styles that I’m always amazed at how good he is at traditional art and just like drawing and painting stuff.

    I'm reminded of the times I would take graphite powder and mix it with a little bit of water; always was a neat effect, especially when also dry brushing it on as well to make a contrasted look

    Video mini-series idea: 4 seasons art challenge. Create an artwork/sculpture using different things that represent each season. So for summer you could make something with sand, for autumn you could use fallen leaves, snow for winter, and flowers for spring.

    You could try a watercolour palette like you use with watercolour paints, to get more control over the pigmentation? Also derwent make a watercolour palette where there are lots of colour pans with graphite in them too.

      Don't be jealous. Any good Art supplier sells Art Graf ... and others. It's fantastic for shading large areas.

      It was difficult for me to get a hold of them, so I mixed my own. I just bought some fat graphite for mechanical pencils and sharpened it into a pot that I mixed with gum aribac. I played about with that until I was able to travel and buy some graphite paint.

    Graphite powder and mineral spirits is a fantastic mix. Used to noodle with that back in shcool. With paint thinner/minerspirits/alcohol you've got a much faster dry time so you're able to erase much faster

    When using watercolours you don't usually use the paint directly from the block, you put water on the mixing tray and then add the pigments to create the colour you need.
