    The F-22 demo at the Langley airshow - the first airshow to get a REAL F-22 demo, not just a few passes. The backflips and sudden pitch-ups are reminiscent of those seen in Sukhoi and MiG-29 demos.

      +sansri7680 It's a Kulbit, or a tight diameter loop. It's also often called a Cobra in US air combat maneuvering schools. It's been around since the 60's but it's only recently become possible with any reliability. Unlike Pugachev's Cobra it's also usable in combat without leaving yourself a target.

      The "Kulbit" is an aerial maneuver developed by Russian pilots in which the aircraft performs an extremely tight loop, often not much wider than the length of the aircraft itself. It differs from the traditional inside loop as it uses post-stall maneuvering capabilities.@@Slavkoni100

      @02DZ Před 9 lety +3

      I didn't hear this pilot say anything about the "cobra" maneuver. Nor did I see one in the video. That's because while this aircraft is more then capable of doing a so called "cobra" maneuver, the maneuver itself is more or less, obsolete due to upgrades to the avionics/weapons suites that allows these systems to continue to track the aircraft even though it it is stationary in the air. This us true for the F-22, as well as it's Russian counterparts. That being said, the F-22 would establish air superiority against any other existing fighter well before it would be engaged in close in aerial combat. Your "cobra" maneuver will no longer be sufficient to protect the Russian fighters due to these upgrades.

    • @dirkbruere
      @dirkbruere Před 9 lety +1

      Well the title mentioned a cobra, I didn't see one.
      Yes it is design to establish air superiority but and kill targets before dogfight. That will require that you know who is the enemy and that part history shows it is not always that easy to know if the blip is friendly or a foe. So if you get forced to make a mark one eyeball you are in a dogfight.
      In these day with coalition forces it could prove difficult to do that if the american flight aviaonics shares data and some coalition aircraft doesn't have that ability you could shoot down friendlies if you don't make a positive recognition.

      the SU and MiG lines are not terrible planes but in general have always been second to creation. They are also cookie cutter jets. The same design with variations to it. Many of the American planes can do the same maneuvers a Russian plane can.

    All I can is nice attempt. Cobra is a more sudden manoeuvre. As I mentioned in another post on manoeuvrability, western pilots lack fluidity. Part of it is the courses taught are within the flight envelope. The system demands consequence management, however russian pilots carry flair or flamboyance looked down in west as promiscuous flying. Most of us compare machines but its the hand that holds the stick which defines the totality of an aircraft.

    • @filmcreations
      @filmcreations Před 10 lety +6

      "As I mentioned in another post on manoeuvrability, western pilots lack fluidity. "
      Nonsense! There are plenty of fluid pilots everywhere in the west. I've seen plenty of airshows and that's not it. Western militaries won't authorize many maneuvers and that's a fact. Even private stunt performers have a hard time getting authorization and almost every insurance companies won't cover it. No insurance, no show! Russia likes to encourage these circus performances everywhere so they can woo other governments on a false sense of combat performance just to sell contracts. They are overly dangerous and doesn't prove any superiority in overall skill. Only a superiority in foolish machismo. The Sknyliv air show disaster is perfect example. Worse airshow disaster in history! Airshows in general already take great risks. There is no need for this macho nonsense.
      "All I can is nice attempt. Cobra is a more sudden man oeuvre."
      The full cobra maneuver requires disabling the plane's safety limiters and throwing the plane into a dangerous stall and USAF won't allow that. Its not worth the liability. I'm amazed he was allowed to do the low speed flip.The cobra looks macho and flashy but its really not worth performing anywhere including Russia.... And its a useless combat theory anyway.

We were all bored stiff seeing the Russian Aircraft doing these moves for all these years. Well done. This video didn't really show too much to smile about though. An American Pilot saying on camera that the F22 is the world leader ... did anybody expect him to say anything else? Are there any videos out there that shows anything better regarding the F22 ... you know ... better than this entry level stuff shown on this video?

      You really think those low airspeed airshow circus ballet maneuvers have anything to do with combat maneuverability? Russian fan boys like to think it does. They come here and troll about it like their aircraft is unique or something.
      At low airspeed, there is a lot a pilot's body and the aircraft's integrity can get away with. There is video all over youtube of Polish doing pretty impressive stuff with F16s. And there is early 1970 test flights of a development F14 doing stall maneuvers similar to cobras and an early F16 actually doing one. Test developments and prototype shakedowns of new western fighters are about the only time pilots are given the most leeway. Otherwise, western pilots are restricted to certain types of maneuvers to minimize liability and try to prevent bad accidents like the Sknyvil incident involving an Su-27. Worst airshow accident in history. Russia likes to put on risky demonstrations at shows because it awes the gullible and it helps sell fighter contracts.
      The F-22 has a combat turn at about 28 degrees. The leading Russian fighter is roughly 23-24 degrees and the Russians have yet to develop a true super-cruise engine. The T50 Saturn Engine is supposed to be the first one and its years away.

      krower11 It's amazing they claim the "Cobra" named after the YFf-17 Cobra made in the mid 1970's. Only thing is the first Cobra was not a Stall Recovery that The Suck-oy survives without crashing. It is the leading aircraft for engine failures at International Airshows though. I tried to count all the videos of them having engine failures at MULTIPLE airshows and stopped counting at 12. So what they did had been done 20 years ago but without engine stall and restarting.
      So thanks for the laugh !!
      BTW, have they got any buyers yet? China put their engines in them due to reliability problems and the PAK-50 prototypes have had 1 out of 5 engine burn up. Service life is less than a quarter of US engines.
      They may have to buy Chinese Engines to have a chance to get the PAK -50 into production before it fails like the Su-47 did before it. Technical issues they could not resolve.

Once the saw The PAK 50 /. FA They cut the funding for Russia failure. I knew they would see all its faults and it did fail miserably when India require a demo of their investment. I think India can do better building their own rather than being conned by Russia. Time for a US and Indian joint project! Or a Israeli and Indian joint project could be very nice.

    The F/A-22 Raptor is byfair the most manuverable aircraft in the USAF fleet. The F-15 Is faster, but thats due to the engines. The F-15 still has many time-to-climb records.
    The main advantage of the F/A-22 over the F-15 is the thrust vectoring. This allows the aircraft to preform tighter tuns and slightly faster manuvers.
    Though as much as it is the aircraft, it is the pilot's skill also.

    @em745aa The Su-35BM,37, and 47 were designed specifically as test beds for the T-50, so no they were never meant for production, and they were not meant to compare to the raptor. However, the T-50 has already made its maiden flight and the prototype is fully operational. The T-50 is not scheduled for production until 2012 so it is typically russian running a little late to the ball game. However i expect it to at least meet if not exceed the raptors capabilities

    The F-22 is lightyears ahead of any aircraft.
    It has the highest degree of thrust vectoring along the “Y” axis. Thus giving it an edge in a turning fight. It can also perfom just about any airshow maneuver.
    It possesses the most advanced avionics system in the world.
    It has the most powerful jet engines in a warplane, thus providing it with superior acceleration.
    It has ZERO wing loading when in wartime operation. IE - Low drag
    It stores it weapons internally. IE - Stealthy and Low drag

    @defcon2xramm However, the SS-27 is designed to be able to withstand nuclear blasts closer than 500 m, a difficult interception when combined with the terminal phase speed and maneuverability. While the boost phase is the most vulnerable time for the SS-27, it remains protected. Hidden safely within missile silos and mobile launchers, a successful boost-phase interceptor would have to be fired from near or within Russian borders or from space. And the SS-27 is also designed to survive a strike

  • @elikohlenberg
    @elikohlenberg Před 13 lety

    @drewdeepblue22 No, but there was a Kulbit, which is essentially a continuation of Pugachev's Cobra. If you can do the Kulbit, the Cobra's a piece of cake. Especially since the F-22 has vectored thrust, which isn't even necessary to perform the Cobra; it was originally done on the Su-27, which is a considerably older plane without vectored thrust.

      Unless you're referring to Pugachev's Cobra? In which case get in line; that has nothing to do with post-stall maneuvering, and there are WW2 propeller aircraft that can do it, not that they ever did because a simple high-yo-yo is all it takes for an enemy to kill them if they try it.

  • @trekgeek1
    @trekgeek1 Před 11 lety

    CZcams logic: Aircraft A does maneuver X better than aircraft B, therefore, aircraft A is a superior aircraft. The F-22 doesn't have to perform every single maneuver or role better than every other aircraft. The F-22 is a terrific fighter because it is highly maneuverable, stealthy and has next generation avionics. You can't do everything best, that's engineering. If you want more of X, you get less of Y; it's the way it is. Anyone who says an F-22 is crap just has an ax to grind.
