the f-16 is a masterpiece in maneuverability, i've read several reports about air combat fights in which the f-16 was involved in and how it dominated them,

I don't know if you've heard of it, or if it's even still being sold, but Falcon 4.0 was a very popular and *very* realistic and challenging flight sim based on the F-16. Sounds like the perfect thing.

The startup procedure was accompanying a realism patch for the computer game Falcon 4. The original didn't feature this but the realism patch had a detailed startup procedure. You need to do it right or you will spoil your chances. (Engines are spinned up with compressed air and when it is gone it is too late. You'd have to pump it up) Get your g-suite on and we're off.. I know this nice bridge I'd like to buzz. :)

Health requirements for jet pilots are put in place for a very good reason Joey. If you aren't in perfect shape you'd black out after just 4 G's. And all other factors like eyesight are needed because you're combatting at speeds faster than sound. I don't think people realize that fighter jet's aren't a hollywood fantasy, they are serious business and not just anyone can pilot them.

They tried what they call a hot load and flew a oh-58 into the nose of a open c-5 galaxy. Craziest thing I ever saw. There were about 5 reserve units sitting on the tarmac that heard what TF 160th was going to do and refused to leave until they saw it firsthand.

In the US you can go into the air force at 17 as an enlisted man or women. But in order to be a pilot, you need to be an officer. Meaning you have to go to college for either four years at a college with a ROTC program or the Air Force Academy. Once you're done with that you go to flight school which is anywhere from 8 to 16 months. Then you finally get your wings.

You want a real "Nap of the earth ride" Get on one of the uh-60's that TF 160th SOAR flies and get ready to clean out your pants. They actually clipped treetops at Ft. Chaffee when I had my feet out the door. I watched them do a hot load w/ a OH-58 at Ft. Campbell when they flew it into a open C-5. Those guy's are great pilots. I'll never fly MEDEVAC with them again though.

Actually,I have heard of the Falcon series, but did not know which fighters were in that sim. Thanks for the tip--I will look for reviews and video of theat simulator.I have a pretty high end comp (self built) which will run the latest games at high settings with good FPS,--I think that in such a sim the more realistic the graphics, the more immersive it would be.

American pilots are fortunate to get much more flight time than pilots of other countries. Flight time is pretty expensive. I would guess that direct operating costs of an F-16 is probably between $2000 and $3000 per hour of flight.

The following comment to follow that of mine below. Just remember that the men and women who fly these, and those in the military in general, have spilt their blood so you have the freedom to object.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? Often attributed to Voltaire, but really Evelyn Beatrice Hall.

F16s, like the JAS are both aircrafts of the same era. F16s are updated more than the Gripen C/D (And the NG JAS is not flying yet) so the F16s are still among the top fighters today, however, the emphasize on A2G has rendered the F16C/D and E/F heavier and less capable dogfighter, but it still a force to be reconed with. F16 is way more capable than JAS today. It's a good thing the Norwegians threw the JAS back into the eastersea and chose F35.

Because even if you're in a pressurized cockpit you get rapid air-pressure changes when flying something as erratic as a fighter jet and fillings and stuff can pop out of your teeth and invisible cracks in your teeth can cause them to break mid-air. Not something you'd want to experience during a mission ;)

The really low maneuvers were pretty damn amazing. Anyone know of a really good flight sim for these planes?? I am soon buying a Hotas Cougar flight stick--exact duplicate of F-16 controls--made by Thrustmaster. It's such a good duplicate that the USAF use it to train pilots. Presently using Flight Sim X--would like an F-16 Sim with top notch graphics.Anyone know of one?
