    Funny story: When my younger brother was adopted, he was allowed to pick a new name for himself… Loving TMNT, he picked “Michelangelo”, but the folks at the adoption office said that would be too weird, so it was shortened to “Michael “… I was adopted at birth, so I couldn’t choose mine… I’m just glad that I didn’t end up like Goo from Foster’s…

    Turtles in Time was one of those rare instances where the home version was better. It might have been missing frames of animation and some voice clips, but it had extra bosses, an extra level that made the transition to time travel much smoother, and the soundtrack sounded better than the arcade version to me. I'm glad both are being included in the Cowabunga Collection, along with most of the other games featured here.

    • @ravagingwolverine
      @ravagingwolverine Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, they did make some worthwhile improvements to Turtles in Time where they could on the SNES. Of course, the arcade version is better in other ways. Personally, the SNES music wasn't as good to me, though there's a hack for that now. But I agree that it's good to have both versions. They're different enough to both be worth playing and I appreciate both versions. For example, I always preferred the original Neon Night Riders stage, but the other changes in the SNES game's level structure were very good ideas.

    • @DesertRainReads
      @DesertRainReads Před 2 lety +3

      @@ravagingwolverine aye, I appreciate the original for what it is, a great, albeit flawed version of the game with amazing graphics for its time and an excellent soundtrack.
      Speaking of the soundtrack, I prefer the SNES arrangements overall, many of them just have a harder edge. Neon Night Riders being one such example, along with Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee, those galloping drums during the intro to that level, still epic to this day.
      Listening to Samus66 jam on the drums to the SNES arrangements of soundtrack really made me appreciate it that much more. I'm glad both versions are included, so we can appreciate them for what they are and experience them for ourselves.

      @davetheimpaler204 Před 2 lety +4

      It's far superior, yes.
      I wouldn't say it's a "rare" instance though; the NES and SNES were rife with superior home versions of arcade games like Contra, Double Dragon, etc.
      Due to the nature of arcade games as quarter-munchers, it should have been seen as the standard for home console versions to be superior.
      That's how I always saw it.

      OotS was a buggy mess when it released but the fundamentals were excellent. Iirc, the PS3 version was eventually patched which improved performance somewhat. I played it on PS3 and I remember struggling with it initially but eventually returning and having a great experience. I’m still disheartened that I was never able to experience it via online co-op, with someone playing each of the turtles.
      I think it had the best characterization of the turtles of any game. The combat was very deep and well designed. It definitely has the best team attacks of any turtles game. I also LOVE that they got the rights to use “Turtle Power” by Partners in Kryme.
      It’s really a shame that it was so maligned by critics upon release and never recovered. I honestly believe that most people who continue to disparage it either never gave it a fair shake or never played it and are simply parroting the media sentiment.

The 4-Turtle dynamic could really work, with drop in/out co-op and fun abilities etc. Might be a decent alternative to beat em ups, which even tho Shredders Revenge did fantastically, has been the only real style done really, really well with the franchise unfortunately. 7:40 In TMNT3 The Manhattan Project, in order to do a special move, you actually need to press jump first, and then immediately press attack, then it will do the special attack, if you press the jump and attack at the exact same time it actually won't work. That's probably why sometimes you want to do the mid air attack but it ends up doing a special attack.

    I was disappointed back then when the first 3D TMNT came out. The early 90s games have been so much fun to play and the idea playing Turtles in 3 D sounded great on paper.
    BTW. there was one game missing, the Turtles In Time Re-Shelled Version which came out on PS3 and Xbox 360 (which IMHO have been like a slap in the face).

    One last thing. For Shredder's Revenge on PC, the music is easily replicable. They are just sitting in a folder within the installation location. Just take out the OGG file(s) you want to replace and put in your own and rename it appropriately. I inserted all the remixes I have from older games. Did have to raise the volume of my files or they would be too quiet even with the music volume at max. Also, they get wiped if the game has an update. Learned that one the hard way.
