#TurboGrafx #pcengine #top10 - Hry
What are YOUR favorite games for the TurboGrafx/PC Engine systems?
Bomberman '93 might be my favorite PCE game. Yeah I know Bomberman '94 is probably the better game but I have more memories playing '93 on Wii.
Star Parodier, Salamander, Gradius 2, Parasol Stars, Nexzr, Rainbow Islands, Pomping World, Saigo no Nindou / Ninja Spirits, Forgotten Worlds, Image Fight 2. Really tough to narrow it down to only 10 games. There are so many great games on the PC Engine.
Being one of those filthy limeys, I never even HEARD of the turbo grafix or pc engine in the UK until I was in my 20s or 30s. Shame as well because it looked like it could hang with the rest of them. Sega should have learned something from how it handled it's cd add on as it doesn't look like a giant waste of time and produced some belters. The music in rondo still kicks so much ass. That opener.
Hit the ice. Joe, I'm sorry. I really am. I had one friend with a tg16, and we were both sports guys so we played that the most :(
Devil's Crush!!!
Loved all the explanations on the voice cast for Ys Books 1 and 2!
I did a few voices for the Ys IV fan translation, and let me tell you, Alan Oppenheimer, Jim Cummings, and Michael Bell is an act that's impossible to follow. You ever heard the guy who replaced Bell as Charles Finster on Rugrats? He's a professional VO, and even he comes up woefully short.
Now I know Pooh Bear is in the cast, gonna have to start savin' up for some turbo gear.
Wow! 😍Didn’t know that. It’s amazing home much we are still learning from a game that is more than 25 years old.
Winnie the Pooh is a lot more talented than I realized.
The suckin' you while you cussin' joke is the funniest joke ever made on Game Sack.
It kind of writes itself
Agreed
Dude I almost died hearing that. Spit up my tea through my nose! Absolutely fantastic.
Apparently you never heard any of their titular jokes
LOL! Yeah that was pretty good. I’m still partial to the “this is as comfortable as holding the balls of GOD.” line in the retro duo episode.
Man, if the Turbografx-16 had advertising as good as that skit, they would have crushed the Genesis!
Would have crushed the overrated SNES.
@@agent109g8If you're of the opinion that the SNES is overrated, that's one thing...
But the top 5 SNES games are arguably better than the entire TG catalog.
@@TheNinjaStuff LOL nope. Ys 1&2 are better than anything on SNES. Better music and voice than any of their games by far.
"Its the 2020's, who has friends?" The accuracy.
The production value on these videos is unrivaled.
Also do your top ten ps3 games
Damn, Joe, we feel seen, and it hurts. 😢
PS3 was a mistake just like N64, lol
@@Baubles1337 lol
i dug into the ps3 just a few years ago, i bought a ps3 and a 50 game library for $150. but the load times, download times, save data files, it was almost unusable. i ended up using it mainly as a ps1 player and it wasnt even good at that
@@DE-GEN-ARTyeah almost 90 million sold, unusable. You’re a 🤡.
Joe! i always say this, but you run the best retro gaming channel on CZcams. period. please don't stop doing what you do man. we all appreciate you
Did you say "tits"?
I agree, though.
I would like to take a moment to say how much I appreciate Joe always having such clean and level audio. I feel like it's the only show I don't find myself turning it up or down.
Turbografx is so underrated. Such a shame it never got the love it deserves. I'm happy that I was able to pick up the mini with no regrets.
I still say getting a Coregrafx Mini might be my best gaming purchase of the last few years. Never played a TG16 and couldn’t get an emulator to work properly on my ancient computer so I had zero experience. But that device awakened a love of shmups I never knew I had. Soldier Blade, Spriggan, Blazing Lazers…Lords of Thunder is now my favorite shmup ever.
That vertical Spriggan is terrific.
Are we to assume Military Madness is only ranked #11?
How dare you!
Don't you mean Air Zonk?
For real, Military Madness was so awesome
That game was awesome for turn based and i am not or still a Final Fantasy RPG fan. That changed me to try the RPG type games since that game came out. Cannon Fodder SNES and Hogs Of War PS1 was awesome too.
Top 10 “Dave” games, and you can define a “Dave” game however you deem suitable.
😁An appearance by the actual "Dave" would be fun but just an appearance. His actual list is unnecessary and Joe's criteria could be more fun.
Games where you play as characters named Dave.
I lived in Japan for a while and asked a Japanese friend to explain the "Rondo of Blood", it apparently means Circle of Blood representing blood lines, which makes sense for the Castlevania series.
rondo is a musical term. that game started the (fairly inconsistent) trend of having future titles in the series feature some kind of musical reference - symphony of the night, harmony of dissonance, aria of sorrow
@@tsvtsvtsv Ahhh, thanks for that information! That makes sense!
Wait.... Winnie The Pooh?
"Before I shatter their souls, and drain the last of their life's blood"
Silly old bear.
If you like that, you should check out the original Star Trek episode "Wolf in the Fold". You'll get to hear the original voice of Piglet say...things Piglet normally doesn't say.
Everybody and their grandma already does top tens on CZcams. It's up to you, brave sir Sack, to make a Top Ten of Top Tens!
Turbografx is such a great system. Please do more top 10. It’s nice to see what games people are fond of.
22:02 I probably shouldn't have laughed so hard at that.
Your not gonna get that on MLiG or D.F only on GameSack! 😅😅
I always have to
I like how you are keeping it real with the old-school interlude music in this video. I've missed hearing that!
Some personal faves not mentioned are Asuka 120% Maxima Burning Fest, the Bomberman games (especially '94), Magical Chase, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, Dragon's Curse, New Adventure Island, Cotton (though I might prefer 100% on SNES), Star Parodier, and I honestly like Ys 3 the most out of those games...
never played any of the asuka games myself but hot damn do they have some killer soundtracks
@@tsvtsvtsv I'm particularly fond of the very first game's soundtrack on the Sharp X68k, it's brilliant!
TG-16 always a good subject for a video. I will await your 1 hour review of “yo bro”
I know you've had it for a while but I think the new intro is phenomenal
I still own this console and 38 games. My dad bought it in 89 and I kept it. Still my favorite console of the era!
R-Type’s soundtrack absolutely SLAPS
Best produced retro game videos on CZcams. Keep up the amazing work. Also, we need top 10's for literally EVERYTHING. People love this stuff!
R-Type is such a classic. Agreed, the PCE Version is the best one, but my fav is the SMS version. I grew up with it (and of course, the exclusive level) so that's why. R-Type also has AWESOME music. The only R-Type sequel I feel this strongly about it Delta on the PS1.
I think Blazing Lazers is better than Soldier Blade, but... im bias. I got that game for Christmas back in the day
That commercial at the end was amazing!
If I saw your commercial on Saturday morning, I would have chosen a TG-16 over the Genesis and Super Nes.
Double Dungeons was that one game I remember trying on the Wii's Virtual Console, and could not stop playing for some reason. I got pretty far too. Something about memorizing everything bit by bit, and getting stronger on each retry, just had me coming back for more.
TG16 is such a treat. Thanks for this!
fell asleep watching, but the scream at 15:57 startled me awake with my heart in my throat. thanks game sack!! 😂
We Europeans got shafted in the 16bit era with low quality 50Hz ports, and no TurboGrafx/PC-engine at all. I still remember seeing screenshots and reports of it in gaming magazines, and wanting to try it out so badly.
Spanish guy here. It was sold in Europe actually. I bought it at Spain's biggest retail store at that time and you could find games on some stores too. We even had a NEC club. I called them a couple of times, bought some games from them and they sent me mails from time to time. The box had a very nice bluish design based on R-Type's second stage, if I remember correctly, and the console itself was exactly like its american counterpart but used red and blue instead of orange and green as accent colours. It had a propietary connector on the side and came with RF and RCA leads. Sadly, it was 50Hz, but on the other hand it was compatible with american games. It was the least popular of the "16-bit" consoles but many people remember it (people who liked videogames, I mean. Consoles were not nearly as popular as they're today). It was also regularly featured on gaming magazines.
Just Google "Turbografx PAL" and you'll find it.
EDIT: Typos
The turbo grafx came out in europe
I have absolutely no recollection of it coming out in Europe, no reason to doubt max below but I knew NO'ONE who had this console or even spoke of it in Scotland. Wonder if it got a mainland release.
Apparently it got a (minor) release in the UK, Spain, and Portugal. I never saw it in Germany or France during my childhood.
I think it was Telegames (they were basically a shop, based in Peterborough) that brought PC Engine to the UK 'officially', though it was pretty covert.
TurboGrafx games, both in HuCard and on the CD, had fantastic music in several titles. Soldier Blade and Dungeon Explorer 2 being my two favorites personally. The Ys games are up there as well too. Fantastic video as always Joe!
My friend, you outdo yourself with every episode, truly my favorite channel on the tube. Im one of those that still misses dave periodically, but am so thankfull you didnt hang it up and call it quits. Ill freely admit, the quality has gotten outstanding in the solo years, youve really gotten good at what you do, expirementing with different skits and art styles and such.
I still miss dave sometimes though, id be lying to say otherwise. Hope you 2 are still friends.
TG-16 is an amazing little system!
No sleep,no problem there's a game sack video here!
Seriously. The only channel I can tolerate outside of Sega Lord X
Bonk's Revenge is definitely the peak of that series. The stuff that came later on Super NES was so ludicrously random and weird that it felt like a bad acid trip. Did Bonk just turn into a fish? And now he's being fed through a pipe? Why is any of this happening?
Super bonk is my pick. There is a whole level that is prehistoric tokyo and you can transform into godzilla snd destroy the (prehistoric) japanese parliament house. Then you can go to the moon and fight the lunar rabbit among the ruins of an alien civilization
The second Bonk on the SNES is pretty good, but it only came out on the Super Famicom.
I love acid trip Bonk. After he sort of failed as a commercial mascot, he went super weird.
@@DeathlessDevil You'd love Super Tempo on the Saturn. Regular Tempo on 32X was fairly weird, but Super Tempo shifts into fourth gear and snaps off the stick shift.
For Me My Top 10 list on my opinion
10. Bonk's Adventure
9. Salamander
8. Devil's Crush
7. Galaga 88
6. Chase H.Q
5. Ninja Spirit
4. Marchen Maze
3. Legendary Axe
2. Gate of Thunder
1. Super Star Soldier
Joe you should check out the music for the C64 version of R-Type if you have not already. You are right about the great music in the PC Engine version but IMHO the C64 music is even better!
It's good, but not better. However it trounces the arcade original.
I'm all for the top 10 videos. You're usually casting a big net when it comes to the amount of games you cover in your usual content. I always enjoy seeing you go in depth with games.
4:10 - for all its issues, I think the C64 version of R-Type has the best soundtrack. The TurboGrafx is up there though.
Gonna miss the old intro. But I will say, the newest Take on Me inspired one is pretty cool!
Agreed 100% if The Legendary Axe was bundled with the console we'd have had a different console race.
I managed to guess at least seven of the entries in this Top 10 before clicking on the video. That's how long I've been subscribed to this channel.
Joe, you're one of my favorite content creators on YT. "A hidden gem you say? That sounds like my kind of game." Hahahahahaaa. Would you ever consider creating curated lists of best games for each system?
That's kind of what this video is... more or less.
I never owned this console. But I find it very cool. Quite a library
Oh I remember reading about Y's Book I&II voice cast, holy cow
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
A legendary classic 🦇
Love it
Hmm what platform to rank a top 10 list next? 🤔 Sega Master System, Genesis, Saturn, And Dreamcast
Not sure about the 32x though.
That one is an oddball. But could be a fun list too
Please do more videos like this, I loved it. Thanks for giving me tons of content to watch while on the toilet
Love this top ten lists!, thanks for the always amazing content, Joe.
Thanks for all your efforts once again, Joe, as it's greatly appreciated by myself and many others.
Always enjoyed the TurboGrafx, my cousin owned one and whenever I would visit he would let me got wild on it. Beat both Bonk games, a big deal to me as I was like 6 and loved gaming but didn't have the skills yet, and loved watching him play all the top tier shoot'em ups.
Also only sort of related but back, during my late/post high school life a group of my friends who were in a band together put out a concept album based around telling the story of Splatterhouse. Was heavy metal of course and even looking back pretty impressive with how much love it showed for the series. Great guys and still keep in touch with them; always will treasure the weekends I would watch them practice, help them set up for a local show, then spend the day after recovering with a day of NES themed gaming.
Did your friends ever put that album out anywhere? TG16 nerds around the globe would love to hear it.
@jorgesantiago3380 not sure as this was like 2002/03 but I can ask them and report back!
Best channel for retro games about. Every video is great, fun and informative
Awesome content been watching since the beginning your production quality is on another level now. Keep up the great work !
That was an awesome episode, I’ve been watching for years and that was just one of the most fun episodes I’ve seen.
Enjoyed the vid! Since you've covered thousands of games it's cool to hear u rank 'em. My only wish is a # 20-11 video for these as well
Seeing this fresh countdown of my all time fave system just made my morning!
I feel like most "Console X top 10 games" lists always have some weird and questionable picks driven by blind nostalgia, but this one is incredibly strong and hard to argue against.
He didn't include any of the multiplayer games, any of the later and more technically advanced PC Engine arcade card CD games like Fatal Fury Special or Art of Fighting, or famous PC Engine CD classics like Gradius 2 or Kojima's Snatcher. Or even the fantastic port of Street Fighter 2. But it's obviously meant to be just a personal top 10, so in that sense you can't argue against it.
Hahahaha! I just noticed what you'd done in the thumbnail for this video - BRILLIANT!
We need more eps like this for sure :) keep it going Joe
I would love more top 10 videos! This was a really good video and hope to see more like it. I’v Been a fan since you started this channel and the videos have only gotten better.
Great episode! The Turbo is one of the consoles I regret not owning back in the day, and wanting to pick one up is what got me into collecting.
I love the thumbnail, its such a great satire of the CZcams gaming community.
You sir, are underrated. That commercial in the end, gold.
Love the TURBO! Favorite is Air Zonk, Bonk’s Adventure, Ninja Spirit and oh man to many great memories! 🦎🦎🦎
Poor ninja Spirit didn't get any love
man i love your humor. great video as always
I really love how well made this video was. I especially loved the graphics for the names of the games listed. I’m really hoping for Top 10 videos for the SNES and Genesis too.
This was a great reminder that i need to finally get around to playing Rondo of Blood this year.
I'm not usually the biggest fan of top 10s because they tend to be very surface-level at best, but you did it right by actually giving us some background and a mini review of each game. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more and judging by the views after just a couple of days, i don't think I'm alone.
I really appreciated the comparisons to other versions of the games you're talking about in a list like this. It makes it easier to decide if I'm going to play a game or not.
That was cool to watch. You should definitely do more of these.
Nice format and great end sketch!
This episode hits such a nostalgic sweet spot for me, personally. I loved my Turbo/CD when I had it, before real life happened and I had to part with it in early 1994 after getting laid off. By the time I got into retro collecting about 10 years ago, Turbo stuff was already was too pricey to get (back).
Seeing (and hearing!) these games unlocks a lot of memories. That’s a meaningful gift. Thank you for that.
Also- I’m all for more Top XX videos in the future, if you’d like to make them.
1. Final Match Tennis
2. Dracula X
3. Bonk's Revenge
4. Soldier Blade
5. Gunhed/Blazing Lazers
6. Bloody Wolf
7. Bomberman
8. Columns
9. Adventure Island
10. Formation Soccer Human Cup '99
Thanks for your top 10s list. Good stuff.
Amazing episode. Also, I'm always humbled down by your shooter skills, top notch indeed.
The comedy is chef’s kiss on this one. Excellent episode!
That, sir, was a quality end skit.
I swear to God, Joe, if I have to listen to you talk about legendary axe again after all these years (and we will!) I'm going to have to destroy every copy. although it was worth it for that "beat it" joke. Glad you finally got around to finishing it. The closure must have been satisfying. I'll bet you beat it again right after!
You've been doing this so long that it must be hard finding new topics. I'm perfectly open to top 10s of any variety in between your more ambitious and specialist projects. Thanks for making Sunday mornings in Europe worthwhile. We still love you for it.
Another Sunday morning with Sunday morning breakfast and game sack, keep them coming. Feels like when I would have breakfast and watch Saturday morning cartoons, I'm that old 😁
I like how you edited in the blank spots in your video for more CZcams ads. 👍🏻
Great video as always!
We need more widescreen games! I loved that series.
Loved this episode, hoping for more top 10s. Keep up the good work. 🙂
Amazing system, and great episode as well!
More top 10s please. Really enjoyed this episode.
Awesome episode! This is why Gamesack is simply the best.
Also, love the TG-16/PCE. Wish I had one when I was little, but I barley knew it existed.
Wow, what an original list! I've never seen any of THESE games on any TurboGrafx top 10 lists before.
This has been my favorite show on YT for almost 15 years now. I looooove Game Sack!!!
New video uploaded on my birthday, thank you sir 💪😂
I don't know if I said this before, but I LOVE this new intro!!!!! 10/10 for sure!!!
I appreciate all the work you do for us. Gamesack is my number one, all time favorite, thing to watch and have been following since day one. Mad love and respect ❤️💯❤️💯❤️
Best sack-based ball working on CZcams.
"One of the best tunes on the Turbo Grafx!"
*fades in headache-inducing music*
I enjoy this format!
I was not expecting Rondo to be #1. I absolutely agree, I just wasn't expecting it.
Thank you for everything you do Joe. You're awesome.
Aaah, a new Game Sack always makes the weekends better 😌
The occasional Top Ten makes sense to me!
Ninja Spirit is one of my favorite games on the system. Love the weapon choices and stage variety. Nice and short for a quick replay every once in a while too.
More top 10’s! I’ve always been interested in the games you like 👍 👍👍
06:06 Don't be so humble Joe, your word is gospel on the TurboGrafx scene
Great list!
FYI I loved the audio vids so please keep em coming
"It's 2020 who has friends?" *sheds a tear for Dave*
Keith Courage
Tailspin
Bonk’s Adventure
Bloody Wolf
These were/are my favorite games on the Turbografx 16! I played other games, but those four always stood out.
Military Madness is place of Bloody Wolf. The rest is agreeable.
