- As a die hard TMNT fan, I can say officially now that we are eating good between TMNT Shredder's Revenge and TMNT Cowabunga Collection. In today's review, we do a deep dive on the 13 games that come to the collection, its insane value, the enhancements it brings along with it, and plenty more. In short, it's a shell of a good time!

2002...haha I forget how old I am. This collection is a dream to me because I was a kid when the 1988 cartoon came out and I grew up playing these. 2002 I was renting my first apartment by myself as a young man lol. But seriously. For someone like me this thing is a dream come true. Best compilation

The original NES Ninja Turtles was from a different era. It was a world where you paid $50 ($100 in today's money) for one cartridge, it was all you had, and no matter how hard it was, you were going to play it over and over day after day until you beat it. These games were made to be almost impossible, but not quite, and to invite the obsessive player to memorize its patterns for long enough to beat it. It's a style of gameplay where angrily banging your head against the wall for hour after hour is more expected.
It’s so cool to see a retro gamer perspective from someone who appreciates and can also say some aspects were past his era. I think so many retro gamer vids are about nostalgia that the viewing audience may not relate to because they haven’t bn able to grow up with them like the content creator was able to. So yea thank you for being honest about what you weren’t able to grow up with and what you did grow up with

The Cowabunga Collection is so good I sold off the old physical cartridges I had of some of the games that are in it. Phenomenal compilation.

I grew up when TMNT first came out, and the creator is from my home town in Maine. I was absolutely hooked on them. Still love the original live-action movie, and the NES game was SO HARD. I spent so much time on it... mostly dying LoL Happy a generation who maybe hasn't seen some of these games can experience them more easily now. Great video, Matty.
for me, growing up back then, these games were my childhood. it takes me back to days going to the arcade and sliding a quarter into the machine and beating up foot soliders with 3 stranger. back to renting turtles 1 on the NES and being mad about getting past the dam level. back to playing turtles 2 with my cousin at his place and eating pizza hut. back to renting turtles 3 over and over from blockbuster and loving it. back to renting turtles in time and playing it with my friends from the neighborhood.
the collection is worth every penny and now, i get to share these memories with my nephews.

I love the TMNTs, but I was always more of a comics/cartoon fan for those. I never really played much of the games, but this collection I knew I had to own. I have no regretsm
I love this collection i do have the first 3 turtles games on the nes and turtles in time for the snes and play them from time to time. Let’s hope more turtles games come to modern consoles after this
I bought the Switch version and I absolutely love it! However online play is unplayable if more than 2 people are playing. Even with 2 people the audio goes to crap. I think Konami needs to put the Switch online play back into the oven because it's definitely not ready. Your money would be better spent on Shredder's Revenge if you want the arcade experience online. I haven't tried local multi-player yet, but I suspect that will be fine. However the Switch version is still worth it just to get this retro collection of games. Just do not get the Switch version for online, you'll be disappointed.
I’m having way too much fun with this collection- except I had to take shredders revenge out of my Switch to put this in. But the games really pop on the OLED screen the OG gameboy trilogy looking way better than they have any right to really. Just. Awesome.
Just picked this up %100 worth it grew up in the late 80s so nostalgia is crazy with this collection 😁

a really nice collection to have i grew up in the 80's i remember playing the turtle game in the arcades back in the day was some really fun good times and memories and remember playing turtles games on the nes and snes game consoles that's why when i heard about this collection i had to pick this up couldn't pass on it if a person is a big turtles fan like me you won't regret picking up the game but the turtles collection is not for everybody my opinion i know im having a blast playing the collection bringing back my childhood again and remembering the good old times and good old days and im 45 now and still feel like a kid when replaying these games again.
I even had Turtle slippers as a kid. I snuck over to a friend's house to watch the movie. I mean, I was obsessed!
Konami is making me very happy with all of these great compilations they've been cranking out.

I agree about the achievements man. I got the cowabunga collection on the switch and I feel like I'm missing out but taking it on the go almost makes up for it.
You still have to brave the original nes turtle game with no cheats or extra lives to get the platinum which in my opinion wouldn't be worth the headache so I went with the switch version as well it just makes more sense to have these games handheld.

To me the most awesome thing about this is that you have the complete Nintendo Power style maps to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES in there. Going back to a child I have always wanted to have this (we had it for games like Mario and Castlevania 2, but never much more than a few areas for TMNT).
Only ever made the Airport in Turtles NES, by Palcom in some countries & Ultra in others ......getting back i to the action.....a 44 Yr Irish fella 🍺☘
Never got into TMNT to experience any of this first hand or to care too much about any side media of it (only saw bits of the 2003 series as a kid) but I'm still very glad that all of its dedicated fans can experience such a beefy and substantial compilation. Retro licenced games don't get that much love very often.
In terms of content and features (as well as emulation quality); this is the best retro compilation yet. I just wished they put work into the games themselves like the way Sonic Origins did; recreating it for a proper full wide screen (all screen space is taken and not stretched) as well as add a bitmap smoothing filter (like the one in the interactive strategy guide in this collection).
All I wanna know is: does the arcade version of Turtles in Time still have Pizza Power for the Title Screen music?

I’m 17... so never played these games except snes tournament fighter, use to play that a lot. I bought it on switch excited to play.
It's perfect for every TMNT fan, and 80's and 90's kid cowabunga.
Honestly what this collection told me is that the turtles needs a game a la Arkham or even dishonered. With freeflow combat and stealth mechanics cause it seems that the turtles are stuck in the beat em up genre
I know you don’t normally do movies but you should review the Rise of the TMNT movie on Netflix. It’s pretty good even if you don’t like Rise that much
I'm definitely getting it, but my concern is the achievements for the fighters. I don't play or like any fighting game, is there no way to cheese these?
I'm just happy that they made a regular physical release so anyone can get it unlike Castlevania Collection that only got a limited run release. Definitely will be picking this up at the end of the week.
This collection is a ninja turtles fan come true, hope they do a second one with the game boy advanced and gamecube/ps2/xbox games

It really is a great collection, too bad they couldn’t get the online right. These games are definitely tough.

Difficult decide. Haven’t played either, but was thinking of either getting this or Shredder’s Revenge. Maybe not both for now, so which one would be the better option to go with first? I would assume the collection because of how many games there are in the collection. I don’t think I’ve even played a Teenage Mutant Turtle game before.

The hardest trophies are Snes and Genesis Tournament Fighters. Rest of the games just use watch mode if you wanna get trophies fast.

Me and my brother played TMNT turtles in time both version on our PS3 which is jailbroken but both games crashed this year and was hoping in future we might get this game. Dreams do comes true

I'm surprised that even the Switch version was 40$ (~45$ total) at Walmart. It's a decent price considering that here in Canada every AAA Switch game is around 100$

Got it for both the switch and PS4. But I give the edge to the switch version. Being able to use the nes & snes controllers 😎
My only complaint is the music in the arcade original is really quiet. I have the arcade and the music is much more pronounced.

2012 TMNT is one of the best TMNT shows. Not perfect, but pretty damn good.

For me the worst part of the collection is that the online doesn't work properly If at all, which is a shame and i pray it gets fixed BUUUUUUUT i don't think it will, here's hoping, but the collection is worth it regardless

Does anyone here know how to play locally? Or I guess "splitscreen" even though it's on a single screen.
Does there have to be another switch running the game locally?? Cause that's how it looks like it's setup, with a create and join lobby. I tried to take the joycons out to use like two controllers and the game was still only detecting one player it seemed. I have no idea what's going on but that is insanely disappointing if the couch coop doesn't work on a single switch.
In every other aspect this is one of the best retro collections I've ever seen.

The original TMNT game for NES doesn't have many options to enhance the game and it is still extremely difficult.

I just ordered this game haven’t received it yet I heard it’s great but has issues with internet causes it to lag and takes a while for others to join but every game has its issues the only thing I’m disappointed in is since it’s a teenage mutant ninja turtles collection they should have added every ninja turtles game ever made for the consoles up to shredders revenge. This would have made it a. ultimate ninja turtles collection. But they may not have the rights to some ninja turtles games and that may be why they were not included in the collection.
Seeing those ads again was nice, especially since I got to see them in magazines way back when. Cool video, although I may wait for a sale for this one. Many of these games are BRUTAL, especially Tournament Fighters
