alina would of still sliced him as he deserves, also she isnt attracted to his darkness, he was using mals letters to be more relatable to her, exploiting her lonliness and her social rejection, and acted like they were the same (villain play book 101 also groomer playbook 101). alina is protective and feisty, the darkling acted as if he was the same with "his peopel" but he is a user and exploiter, he discards his people like nothing, uses them even for horrible things and only protects himself and his goals, they could not be any different. Pure hearts are not drawn to darkness they are only drawn to get rid off it ie turn it into light, light exists without darkness only shadows can't exxist without light. He was the one that needed her more but manipulated her into thinking they are equals and that she needs him. She neve needed him she is more powerful then he is. Also he only started respecting her after she litterally killed him lol because he only respects power, He 100 would of tried rizzing up Mal if mal could use his powers and was in contorl of them because the darkling only cares for himslef and his power (trauma obssesion from his messed up child hood and he will never change not after such a long time of being like that especially because he isnt even sad or mad anymore he just straight up wants to dominate everyone he has become one with the dark)@@firevel

The fact that Alina had more chemistry with the Darkling throughout the books, and in the show, is the reason its so garbage to see her with Mal. 😢
Mam know toxins are also chemisty but dont mean they are good. I am glad she ended up with mal the darkling was a bloody creeep and manipulator and pedo (not him using mals letters to charm her and use her isolation and naivity against her). I am glad the books made them get together there are way too much teen novels romanticising toxic and abusive relationships to the point in real life people can't even see and enjoy normal, healthy and loving relationships. They are litterally addicted to toxicity. And the darkling neve loved Alina as someone who grew up with people with similar dysfuntions and expressions of "love" the darkling triggered me from the get go. I get it that people who dont have such experienes think its fun and "passionate and possesive love" it's not he is litterally a monster and chooses to be one. That's the thing with types like the darkling yes bad upbrinig and being bullied is traumatic but it never ever is a justification to abuse others. He choose his hatred, power hunger and obssesions for control over all his humanity and care for others. Alina literally had ptsd from him, he powers r@ped her and yall are upset about the "chemistry". I really think it;s just he "sad hot evil guy" that's blinding you also ben is a crazy good aactor he literally has chemistry with everyone in the series. Also some of yall are projecting your thirst for ben and blinded by the sad emo boy that you want to fix trope. which is sad actually because you are missing out on how awesome ben is playing is character and yes i also came in for ben because i love his acting and he is handsome but the character is a monstrious person, yall would literally give hitler a chance if he was hot. be for real. also he would not give a dang about aline if not for him litterally thirsting for her POWERS, he litterally looks at her like a bowl of ice cream her being the bowl and her powers the ice cream. Yall need to descen the looks of genuinine want care and desire for a person and a look of a predator or you will get into bad situations. And yes I also have to say that i wish alina and mals actor had more chemistry but it still doesnt change that their characters are ment to be together, eventhoug i dont care who alina ends up with (except the old creepy pedo user the darkling )even if its alone because that;s my Girl and she deserves happiness only.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm a horrible person, but I still like the Darkling over every other character in Alina's story.
he sex traffiked a 9 year old still like him? BEn barns did freaking kill playing this role but I dont actually like the darkling he actually disgusts me, it broke my heart because i came in for ben. But i like that i hate him lol. My fave is Alina especially when she takes her powers back from him and kicks his ass. Alina reallly said "I need you? more like you need me Bihhh" it was so satisfying because he really be actling wild hurting people like no one can touch him. I hope he didnt really die so Alina can beat his ass up again just so he can be humbled.

how does he get redemption for sex trafficking a child? because yes they have chemisty but that;s due to the actors not the characters also chemestiry does not have to be romantic. most villains and heros have chemistry with each other. but she it sucks mal and alinas actors dont have more chemisty because i think their characters have chemisty with each other, they make sense and he is her home that is the epitome of romantic love and i actually like they made her choose the good guy not the messed up emo toxic relationship because i am so sick and tired of that trope especially because people romantcise this even in real life. He assigned Genya to THE QUEEN because she was a Fjerdan nobel who came from a land where people literally kebab grishas A spy was needed in he queen's court. In the trilogy and s1 Leigh and the writers clearly point out how Tailoring is a very, very unique and rare skill. Logistically, the only way to get a grisha spy on the Queen's court to make sure the Queen did not convince the King and other nobels to eradicate ALL the grisha was to have a tailor, the best tailor in her court and. A position in the Queen's side was SUPPOSE to be safe. NIKOLAI himself said Queen Tatiana was suppose to protect Genya.
The Grisha tell Alina in Shadow and Bone that THE QUEEN is the one who commanded for Genya to live in the Grand Palace "She eats at the Grand Palace...and sleeps there. The Queen likes to make sure she's always available." Genya was safe there for years "She would dress me up in lovely clothes and brush my hair and sit beside her at meals. When I grew older, I had the misfortune of catching the King's eye." The main purpose of her being in the Queen's court was to gather information. In The Tailor, when Genya tells the Darkling about what the King did he offers her a chance to escape completely or a chance to get revenge. Because guess what? Nikolai let the King retire to a nice, fat,paid-for vacatation when he found out what the king did - there was no justice. "You'll be seen safely aboard the Volkolny and across the True Sea. You can go someplace warm, maybe the Southern Colonies...You will have every luxury." My friend was SA'd and if given the chance for revenge would take it, because even people who call themselves "just" and "fair" like Nikolai let the men go free for SA. No prosecution. Nothing.

Fun fact for all of those who are excited for season 3 the Darkling does come back! This girl tricks Zoya and someone else (I forget who) I to doing this ritual that raises people from the dead, but Zoya figures it out and stops it. However the Darkling’s soul is transferred into someone else’s body (again i forget who) but that may become too complicated for screen production so they may just bring him back fully.

The series has something missing
The series did have something missing....better writers.
If they had done actual complex darklina angst instead of shoving malina in the audience's faces, then we would have gotten the renewal. General audiences would have watched in droves if they had done that. Instead, they removed all darklina, gave multiple poorly written chastising lessons like the audience is in Sunday school, and sidelined alina while only giving her one main emotion - anger. It made the character feel one-dimensional, no arc just a long drawn out repeat of the exact same thng as the last episode from season 1. The writers only bothered to make the Crows have any actual moral quandry and development

The story is over. Eric heisserer the showrunner hates the trilogy characters and only ever wanted to do the crow story. He ruined the trilogy on purpose to force Netflix to let him do the ice heist next.
I would rather see the series cancelled than see Eric try to mess up the trilogy characters further
I dont agree with their chemistry being about darkness- could it not be as simple as he’s the closest thing to her equal. Unless you have a power complex- I feel like the other romantic options are just fighting a different level.

He threatened Mal that if he wouldn't copatarate and find the sea WIP he would cut her skin. He was stalking her for half a year and even kissed her with the form of Mal and when she found out she tried to push him away (in conclusion half a year with no sleep) he blinded his mother and also he gave genya back to alina with the scars like"look. What you made me do " offed her orphanage and mother figure and botekin threatened that he would off the rest of the children and also cursed Nikolai with the volcra

She was 19 if you actually count the time-line in the trilogy - leigh did not re read her own work. It's not grooming.
Leigh bardugo also stated on her goodreads that he did not blind Baghra - there was shadows from the fold over her eyes which can be fixed later. You all forget that the only person that physically actually SAd her was Nikolai - he forced himself on her after weeks of getting more and more "unnerving" and hands on her. Then he kissed her in the real world in front of a crowd and shoved her in the carriage before she could fight back - and she said she would have fought back too
- He didn't blind his mother( even if he did, she had it coming imo) he covered her vision with shadows which she could have easily undone since surprise surprise 😮 she is a shadow summoner herself, but she didn't because she has to play the victim 🤭
- He didn't kiss her in Mal's body lmao she called him that's why he appeared.
- Alina mentioned that Nikolai is 17 yo and he is 2 years younger than her when she joined the military. How much old does that make her 🤔 hmm can you guess the number?? Or should we do it for you 😉
