I love just how complex the Darkling really is. Yes his actions are wrong, but he's dealt with countless years of his own people being slaughtered and used. He's lost so many people he's felt close to, causing his heart to harden, not allowing himself to actually care and let people in. Alina represents the hope for humanity, and he let her into his heart. By doing so he really started to change some of his beliefs and was starting to in a way be willing to admit fault in his actions. I just love his character so much.

The sad thing about their whole relationship is that he was not wrong about most of the things he said to her. He told her that she would lose Mal, any arrangements she makes even through an arranged marriage, it will never be enough to keep their kind safe. There will always be those who will fear her and anyone else like her. If she makes the smallest mistake, they will brand her as the next heretic just as they did to him. And he didn’t want her to go through it alone like he did. Such an amazing tribute to these two characters. I hope it is not the last time we see his character through the show. I wouldn’t mind if he somehow found a way to live on. Thanks for uploading.
I have no doubt the darkling will live on, and we will see him in the next season!! Please remember that the darkling's Nietzschevoya are part oisim, Nikolai was actually hurt by one of them during the battle in the chapel in episode eight. At the very end of the episode we see Nikolai getting ready for his coronation and instead of seeing himself in a life-size mirror he sees in a Nietzschevoya. What is to say the darkling's essence is i a part of Nikolai due to his encounter with the Nietzschevoya? The darkling could possess him from time to time, slowly causing him to descend into madness!! It will be interesting if the writers follow down this path it will make for good TV

The Darkling is resurrected but NOT as who we see him as. He is resurrected into another body. Tbh I would find it incredibly stupid to not continue him as Ben Barnes seeing as Darklina has such a huge fan base. Ben legit made the show.

Naah I couldn’t live with the countless innocent people being slaughtered, it would eventually make me resent him for murdering them. Alina is too good of a person, there was no way she would idly stand by and allow him to hurt others, that’s why she’s a hero.
@@taraz6786 it’s like everyone forgot Novosibirsk was the military stronghold that was allowing their enemy to waltz in and kidnap a minority class for witch trials and was about to wage Civil War. Leading to the death of thousands if not millions of people.
From a purely military standpoint, destroying Novokurbirsk would have had to happen either by the fold, cannons, guns, or an actual siege with people inside slowly perishing from starvation.

The way Alina kept constantly arguing the Darkling didn't understood sacrifice just irritated me. He's the villain and she has every right to hate him, make no mistakes, but no matter how good she thinks she is, how righteous in comparison to him...he has lived thousands of years more than she has. He DOES have more practice with eternity and what that much time and loss can do to a simple boy like he used to be. She was also wrong to affirm he was the cause of all the violence, because Grisha had been persecuted by humans long before the fold was even created, and that's what she failed to understand. Luda's unjust death (his past lover) was what made him tap into merzost (dark magic) to protect the others of his kind and accidentally led to the creation of the fold. Hell, few minutes after she swore she would never be like him, she was using merzost too to bring Mal back to life and then used a shadow cut to kill that Grisha at the end. She's already going down the same path as him and he REALLY tried to warn her about it :/

I agree, I think the way she does things is ridiculous, she only thinks about Mal and only accuses the Darkling the whole time since he was right the whole time about the persecution and death of the Grishas, she talks about self-sacrifice as if the Darkling had never sacrificed himself to save his people from imminent death, I figured she never gets into the subject of the Grisha being captured and killed (her own race), Alina would have been there when Genya and others grishas were around from being thrown into the fold by members of the first army to being devoured by the volcras but it was the Darkling who saved them from painful death, it seems she doesn't care about the other grisha besides herself, that disappoints me!
@@mrsfox1179 Alina absolutely cares about the grisha, it was the show and ultimately Leigh Bardugos own fault, for not getting into the complicated issues and the nasty truth about the villain being right. And in order for the heroes to win, you can't have them asking difficult questions, now can you 🤷
The show did it worse, by rushing through everything and not giving Alina time to consider anything other than mal.

And Mal threatened to take away her power and he succeeded.
Tbh, I still shipped them until the very end. The "my little saint" had me in tears. And she brought out the best in him. Those moments of weakness, when he really tried to hide all his bad sides so that she would feel safe. And how he kept coming back, kept wanting her to stand with him. And not because he nesscesarily thought it would better his domination. Just because he loved her.

Ben Barnes brought the Darkling to life perfectly for 2 seasons. Was great
Season 2 was terrible. The writers removed their romance on purpose jessie admitted it in an interview. We were robbed.
and Christina strain removed the good baghra lines from the book where she still was a good mother and wanted redemption for her son. And dear lord the hand was a mockery of demon in the wood
Everything he said was the truth, as he saw and experienced it, Alina came in with her innocence and inexperience and immediately saw only black and white. You can see how he softened around her, how for a time, he truly thought they would be able to do this together, until she began to pull away, and he felt forced then to make decisions for her. His obsession with her, his desire to have her by his side, to fill the loneliness and be his equal ultimately led to his downfall. In a way, it's a story of loneliness, and what a person will do to have someone by their side, to fill the void that no one else can or even understand. I love the darkling, he is such an amazing and complex character, and seeing his interactions with Alina really bring to light all those complexities.
Oh my God, I'm actually crying right now. I didn't think I would until the Darkling's final speech to Alina about how "this world doesn't need a Saint, it needs a monster," which gained a deeper meaning to me after watching this video. I've always been a sucker for the Dark Lord/Lady of Light trope, an extension of my Beauty & the Beast love, and despite the coaster of highs and lows I've heard about Season 2, the writers put *everything* they had into Darklina. The Force bond-esque dream/vision meetings that only they themselves can see, which just so happens to be *another* one of my favorite tropes? Ah-mazing. Jessie and Ben's acting? Already great in S1, but in S2 they stepped up in a big way I can tell, especially Jessie. The amount of book quotes that translated to screen? I know we have Ben to thank for that. And the budget behind their powers, damn! God, I'm just grateful to know that this isn't the Darkling's end, and having been told the symbolism of the bee on Zoya's shoulder, I'm hoping we can expect a return for him very soon, especially in regard to Alina's new end as well. Plus, I have no doubt the showrunners are aware that Ben Barnes as the Darkling is one of the biggest factors in the show's popularity, so bringing him back would be a win for them as well. Fingers crossed!🤞Amazing work here. 🥰🌓

I have to disagree on the connection part, the show ruined it. It was an intimate thing between just the two of them but now every person and their mama can get into it 😡 Also they changed what she felt about him in the show it was straight up hatred and fear. In the books, she had to fight herself to not feel attracted to him, she kept telling him to stop hunting her and when he did she asked him where were you, you haven't come to me in a while, she thought multiple times " I want to stay here "when she was with him in the tether, she cried when she killed him and he died in her embrace, she admitted multiple times that he was right about what he was saying instead of the stupid naive arrogant Alina we got this season. Book Alina is not a good female lead by any mean, but what they did to her in the show is bad. These writers robbed us from getting already existing source material while they rewrote Malina as a whole, I'm pissed.

I loved Aleksander and i think he was right. Darkling was cruel because of the he's experience but same time he was a knight for me. Series writers want pink story, but truth not the same with it. More than that and painfull than that. RIP Darkling :')

She made the fold the biggest problem when in fact it was ravka against everyone. They could've been each other's missing link but alina chose to turn a blind eye while aleksander was so enveloped with the need for revenge that he failed to get alina by his side as his queen. Both of them were scarred and alone and it's sad that they could've been each other's refuge...

The chemistry between Darkling and Alina is so supremacy, the vibes are everywhere in every scene.. i wish we had more of them on 2nd season.. the love and the caring of Darkling to Alina is doubtless.. i am so into them 🖤🤍
I think Kirigan understood her best and knew what was hidden inside her. What consequences of power await her, how she will feel after a while. And he tried to help her, but so that she was next to him. Yes, his methods of struggle and the liberation of his people were very dubious, but Alina could change that. Instead of finding out, listening to him, how he will explain Baghra's words, about the fact that he is the Black Heretic and only uses her for his own purposes, Alina simply ran away and immediately labeled him "enemy". That's why he was furious. Their relationship was going well, everything was great, Alina could correct him later, guide him, and they could solve this situation together. Instead, there is so much loss, pain and sacrifice. Because there was no dialogue! Did not have. A couple of Kirigan's proposals, and Alina's incredulous angry face.
Mal in season 2 fulfilled his role as the Firebird amplifier. He was there to protect her until she became strong. And Mal had to die. But he was resurrected in a "dark" way, and it was immediately clear that he had become a different person. He no longer had feelings for Alina and the desire to protect her. He calmly sought his way. And says you're meant for something more.
But I would say: for SOMEONE more.
Alina discovers darkness in herself and ... at the end of the last episode, she sees with a very pleased face and a grin how that woman was sawn into pieces from her "cut". Not from the light, but from the darkness. And she has no regrets.
So I think her power will soon take on dark traits and in the end it will turn out that only Kirigan is her "refuge". And if they want to overcome the darkness, then they can only do it together. And both become light.

You know a series or movie is good when you can't stop watching it bc you want more. The Shadow and Bone series gives off those same feels that The Twilight Saga did for years. The end of Season 2 showed once more how much he had cared for Alina, but at the end he made the wrong choices which lead to Alina's hatred for him. They could've been endgame, if he would've known how to treat her right.

I really hope that they eventually get back together, if only she new why he created the fold she would understand. Although she showed hate fore him he never hurt her. My hopes for season 3 include a new evil forcing them to work together which intern puches them closer and reveals the truth about why he is the way he is.
I want a tragic romance:
-Alina gets slowly more dark, by being faced with difficult choices
-Darkling gets resurrected, and becomes slowly more good, from his love for Alina (but she keeps pushing him away)
-season 3 ends with the Darkling sacrificing himself to save Alina and the world
-she admits she loves him, he dies at peace in her arms - the end.
Let's all admit this is the best poetic ending, and works best with the plot so far 💘

Darkling was always right and he at least fought to save his people, the fjerdans and others will never stop hunting and killing grishas, the funniest thing is that Alina never cared about it, I never saw a part where she said she wants to protect the grishas from imminent death, I think the problem wasn't always the black heretic (Darkling) or the fold but intolerance and neglect, Alina doesn't think about the fjerdans killing grishas, she only thinks about Mal, about her own power, her closest friends and killing the Darkling all the time, but the rest can be screwed she doesn't care, that's disappointing!

@@paulinam5024 Yes. The Darkling resurrects in the sequel. But Alina, normally at this point, no longer had her powers and had opened an orphanage with Mal... (I hate that) Since they changed things and Alina still has her powers here, but corrupted by the Merzost and so with the same powers as the Darkling now, their story is, unlike the books, certainly not over. So I can't wait to see what they have planned next.

This is the best spoiler ever. Season 2 was REALLY WEIRD and BORING for me. It was to much in too little time. I couldn't belive that the Darkling would die so easily without at least a good fight. That was really disapointing. For me he was a very interesting character, and when they killed him, I thought that the show would become even more boring. But knowing that he resurrects brings me a bit of hope. Season 1 was amazing. What a shame season 2! I'll read the books. Thanks!

The main issue with the Grishaverse is even though the author intended Darkling to be a villain, she ended up making him an anti-hero who elicits more sympathy than disgust.
Is it horrible that I adore their haunting yet beautiful relationship and even after we found out that Alexander was the villain all along I adore them as a pair instead of Alina and Mal

Btw before the series i read books and trust me the chemistry which is between in darkling and alina was not between in mal and alina. We love the bad one and that sounds crazy. but he was not bad man against to only alina. That was enough. Yeah I know he killed too many blameless people but he had a strong reason. He did everything for grishas. To live. To stay alive without fear.
Think whatever you want but in my opinion he didnt deserve this kind of end. Not talking about the series. Everbody who read the books understood what I am talking about.

this couple gave me such a bittersweet feeling because of everything they COULD be. There are so many parallels in their dynamic that could be so relevant to the story like:
1-the fact that darkness is not a thing and it only ever exists because there is an absence of light. So Aleksander would be absolutely smitten by her presence for that reason and also think he would become obsolete to Ravka because of her, creating not only a reverence towards Alina, but also a resentment for the fact that he now sees himself as useless. HOWEVER she could never shine bright without darkness, meaning they both need one another in peaceful coexistence for the nation to thrive.
2-they could represent the sentiment of duality in racial conflicts, like it is in X-Men/Malcolm X & MLK. One has a very violent and divisive solution and the other tries the peaceful and conciliatory method, but the story could show that both have their problems.
3-it could give us more of the Russian pragmatism and tragedy in personal relationships when they're in a power struggle, like it is with the book Deathless, by Catherynne Valente. I would just love if they DIDN'T stay together, but rather gravitate toward one another, like a curse that the other can never quite get rid of.
But it seemed like the story was too focused on villifying Aleksander as an end goal and then none of this would actually be possible.

i prefer darklina ship then malina because, darklina has a lot of chemistry, he asked for consent when kissing her, he's always there for her, hes always kind to her and hes always protective of her, on top of that, he calls her 'My Alina' or 'My Little Saint', he was also at peace when he was with Alina . Mal on the other hand, doesnt have that much of chemistry, he just kissed her, when the fold was teared down, mal just said he wanted a break and left her alone. Alina and Darkling is such a great couple

Está temporada fue muy buena, pero siento que si la historia de amor de Alina es con Mal debieron hacer a Aleksander completamente malo, sin momentos de soledad, de añoranza, de extrañar a Alina... Debió ser totalmente malo, porque de la manera que fue, te da a entender que hay esperanza para él y su capacidad de bondad... Honestamente no me gusta Mal, siento que no tiene realmente nada que ofrecer, no siento que complete o comprenda a Alina cómo lo hace Aleksander. Anyways, great video as always ❤🎉

I have a big concern about the return of Darkling of Ben Barnes, in the book King Of Scars sankta Lizabeta saved the Darkling's body and preserved it with the intention of resurrecting him using the monster that was in Nikolai Lantsov's body, but Zoya Nazyalensky discovered and destroyed the Darkling's body, but the essence of darkling escaped the original body and Darkling entered Yuri Vedenem's body, Yuri was a faithful follower of Darkling, so I don't know if Ben Barnes will play Yuri or if it will be another actor who will play this character or if Netflix won't follow the course of the books, but I honestly would love for Ben Barnes to return!

@@thatianaalexandre2054 don’t read the duology it’s worse than any fanfiction written by 13 year olds. A saint tricks Zoya and Nik and as he is about to be brought back, Zoya realizes it and burns his body.
His soul then enters the body of a nearby person - Yuri.
Trust me that whole duology was just insanely crazy and bad.

But it gives me hope that Bardugo will write another book with him maybe a shadow and bones sequel with a decent final and the writer definitely have some questions to answer but even if she does it will not make sense enough to connect what we already know about the darkling, his povs and the final of rule of wolves.
