Can I even explain how excited I was for this new season ?
Shadow & Bone and the Grishaverse have been some of my favorite things these past years.
I loved season 2 and the mix between Siege & Storm and Ruin & Rising.
I expected a bit more for the Darkling's death scene (more faithful to the books) but considering all the hints to King Of Scars in the last episode, there is no doubt he'll be back.
I could elaborate on this whole season and the entire cast of characters especially the crows and Freddy Carter's performance but will leave it to that for now.

@skywalker6763 Honestly, I don't think there's even going to be another season considering how they messed it all up. But his hand was left, and they did leave a little easteregg about him returning so 🤷
But I doubt Ben would return, he seemed kinda disappointed with the season.
He is a villian and he is too good of a charasmatic villian to be truly gone 😢 A tragic character who keeps the story moving, who challenges our morals.
I will miss him and I still hope we'll see more of him.
Ah, Ben Barnes, the gorgeous, complex one. Makes a great hero character (like in Prince Caspian) and also a greater villain! Such an underrated actor.

that one scene where the nicheo'ya hurt alina and he screams/tries to stop them. that scene broke me.
Same. I wish I could take that moment apart because there is so much in that... he doesn't want her hurt, he wants her safe. She is the only hope for a future.
Alina didn't even try to understand him...she just decided she suffered more than him which is impossible in the first place....now Alina will take his place and years later she will finally understand him and his actions but it'll be too late

A very complex character who was more comprehensible in the books, indeed i think his development was rushed in the serie and peoples couldn't entirely understand how deeply he was ruined. He lived a thousand years and as many traumatic children become himself a persecutor. Every villain has a reason to be the way they are. I think he understood that sometimes violence is the only solution to be safe. Alina is very young and maybe a little naive, she will have to face many issues now that the fold who was the "main" problem of the continent is gone.
Yea tbh this season felt a bit rushed as a whole… not just for the Darkling.

I wonder how *right* the Darkling was/will be about the Grisha? it's easy to cast him as being a naysayer of people working together, but i mean he's..seen all this before, he's tried to help his people through the years and has only *now* managed to get them to a point where they are begrudgingly accepted. and that took centuries.
Im sad. He truly deserved more care in the show. He's a deeply flawed person but has so much trauma. No one could ever understand him

After an amazing first season, the writers butchered the story and these characters in season two, but Ben Barnes still showed everyone how to make the best of any scene. RIP Darkling. RIP Darklina. You deserved better.
When the makers don't know the worth of what they created and ruin it with their own hands, it is a tragedy...
S3 would have been guranteed...IF the writers had done darklina and not rushed 4 books into episodes

i never wanted the evil person in a story win, like I did in this one. Ben did a freaking amazing job with the darkling, and the chemistry between alina and alex was very beatifully fked up in a good way. The way we love ppl is sometimes the only way we know how to, so even in his fked up way he loved her. He is right dow. light cannot exist without shadow bc light creates it. This is the only show which i beg the writers of netflix to twist the og story and make this it their own. Bring him back when alina needs him in S3 make him less fked up, make this a happy ending for tthem.

Even though he did do a lot of terrible things he loved alina in a way he hadn't done with anyone before....for me he was the best character on the show and if he's not coming back I'm not watching season 3....as simple as that 😅

Ugh I love them. Theirs is a complex, intimate relationship and no-one else can understand them as well as they do each other. Ben really brought his A game this season and this vid really highlighted it! Great work!

Not understand each other. Alina is too young compared to darkling in terms of both experience and age. She cannot see the world the way darkling see it. She hasn’t suffered the way darkling has suffered. She still have people who are truly her friends. The love, respect and care for her. Whereas darkling followers only follow him due to fear or their arrogance towards non griesha people. He never had anyone who cared for him like a friend or a lover.

I NEVER cry at things like this but I cried after watching this😭.
I still haven't watched all of season 2 but when I saw the scenes with Baghra in this video I cried. The Darkling is a horrible manipulative man but I still can't help but love him. The way Leigh wrote this character makes it really difficult to fully hate him, she added so many layers to this villain. Also the acting of Ben Barnes and the show just makes it that much better. This man deserved better🖤👑

For the second day I can't get over it, not because he died (it was predetermined, the show mercifully prepared the viewer for this moment), but because of exactly how it happened.
I am eternally grateful to you for this video. A brilliant combination, a sensible sequence and an ingenious ending: the darkness at the end. Specifically this particular means of artistic expression, for all its simplicity, is so to the point, so precise, that I fell back into the depths of endless grief for this character.
Thank you so much! I can only hope the way he was handled this season is to provide for a more heartbreaking death at the end of the series, if the crew gets to do their multi-season plan.

If doesn't comeback in S3, then I am not watching this show. You don't cast Ben Barnes as a villain and expect the audience not to root for him.

Edits like this makes me even more mad about not having ONE Darklina scene rightly adapted from the books. Sure we got some classics quotes but they were so out of contexts that they fell flat to me. I guess we should’ve seen it coming with the “Call Me Alexsander” bullshit from season 1 but still.
Will forever be salty that the Chapel scene, the bitter and emotional death scene, and allll of the other ones will only exists in my head and will never be able to be exposed in a beautiful edit like this.

I still dont understand why the writers make some rushed story which makes no sense at all and even worse they just butcher all darklina scens and feelings for each other in the books. While i watched this whole season i just lost every words for the ridiculous story. And im still mad about not getting ONE GOOD DARKLINA MOMENT. They should’ve had, could’ve had but as i can see they clearly dont seem to be interested in sab but soc. So what can i say 😂 But knowing that im not the only one who missed all that lost scene in the books makes me feel less sad. #Darklina deserved more!
there was so much irony and symbolism with his story that makes it so powerful. the best of them is the fold being created and destroyed out of grief and loss, the parallels were done really well.

SPOILERS in the book he is not dead a sankta resurrects him. The fold will come back and he will save Ravka sacrificing himself being in eternal agony in the void and darkness that existed before the creation of the world holding the fold there.
I only read the first book. so I don't know what will come in the next season but I think for sure if Darkling will not come in next season I will not watch... my interest will be over...

I watched this show for the Darkling he's such a brilliant villain and I've just read the first book. Genuinely so so upset rn. And look at Alina. In the end, what he said was true but no ohh no Miss Starkov and has to go prove herself right. Um like Miss who's been dealing with this shit for a century? Who's turned into a monster because of what he did? Yep. So, so upset 😞

I wouldn't know what worth it means to you, but there is more to the Darkling in the King of Scars duology, if you'd ever want to read that (which I think is where they want to go with the show)
I like him here but in books especially as a villain. No matter how scary in the book he was, I rooted for him along with the heroes(mal + Alina).
I loved season 2 a lot. I wish they would have shown him cunning and wise and calm and collected because he ruled and lived and experienced and was scary. They made him too sorrowful and whiny and beaten by time and loneliness type. Even though he was, he hated looking weak, which take away the horror from him for me.
I am happy that they kept the connection with him and Alina. He wanted Alina from the start of the book and show. I think Alina never owed him anything to be his salvation or light or to even understand him. He offered and she rejected. But I loved his obsession with him. He never really gave up.
I wish that Leigh one day write a book through mal perspective because I understood everyone in the book but never him. I was most curious about him. I am happy that he chose his path rather than her guard in the show.
I wish they both find each other back again. Malina❤ and I wish they bring darkling back and find him some peaceful resolution. People can sympathize with him. I do too even in books but let's not rationalize when far more younger people are giving away and losing but stand by right in Grisha's verse.
I am happy they didn't make alina and darkling some love and blah blah just like vampire dairies ruined Damon because his love for Alina. I wish this bad boy and good girl trope didn't ruined this show.

This is so sad to watch. There's nothing complex about him. He has so many issues, most deep rooted of all are his mommy issues and delusion..
Even his own mother can see that you can love him and simultaneously realize, there's no redemption for him.
He's used to playing victim for so long that it's almost poetic that he becomes one in the end; by the hand of someone who could've helped.
