- First video in a series that is only 7 or 8 years over due. I'll be starting off doing a video for each weapon but some of them will be grouped together.
There is no strict format for these but generally I will cover the following:
- Move set break down and top moves.
- Utitlity and best uses.
- ET and UT properties.
- General dos and don'ts.
- Special info and extras.
Visit ninjaarchives.com for all sorts of Ninja Gaiden discussion and resources. - Hry
When a game is still being played and discussed 12 years after its release, that's when you know you got yourself something exceptional.
Playing this right now on my original Xbox from 2003.
Same, such a gem
Lol I was scared no one still played this game. I'm almost done with the very hard difficulty and this guide will be useful. Thanks man
Thanks. Once you've bested very hard master ninja will soon follow. Hope this video is of some help :)
Master Ninja is gonna kick your ass
Picking up this game having not played for 7-8 years, and this is truly one of the best instructional vids I've seen on any game. Great stuff!
Thanks man it's always good to know these types of videos help people :)
Man you have no idea how much I appreciate this resource. I haven't played the game since before Black on the original Xbox so I really needed some tips to wake my game up. Gonna go through the whole playlist now
Ninja gaiden black is backward compatible now glad you made these videos
Ngb has been growing back again in the last months, I love it
It seems so which is great. I've noticed quite a few videos popping up not just about NGB but NG in general.
I have played through NJB on master ninja at least 5 times and these videos are still teaching me new things I never knew about. Love it!
I would brutally slaughter any number of small cuddly animals if it meant getting a PC version of NGB on Steam. I've been playing Sigma with a PS4 controller for years just because I don't want to go through the hassle of setting up an old xbox with modern tech and while some additions are pretty cool Black is the real masterpiece out of them.
I feel like one thing you alluded to a bit here but would be worth spending more time on is the "unwritten" combos of the game. I feel like the single biggest turning point of when NG clicked for me was when I realized the game wasn't about just doing the button combos as they were written on the movelist. It's more about chaining segments of them together to form sequences. I've watched some of your other vids already so I've seen a bunch of the cool stuff you do, but I feel like it would be a helpful tutorial to show some of the most useful sequences. Stuff like X, Y, X, B, on-landing Y for instance. Or going in-depth on shuriken cancels and the chains you can create with them, since I feel like the DS is the weapon with by far the most options for shuriken canceling.
I think my favorite last-enemy style combo is just the forward Y > shuriken cancel juggle, time your shurikens and launchers until the enemy's high up enough and then decapitate them midair with an upwards-angled flying swallow, then shuriken out and cross back through with an OL haze slash as they fall.
That last combo you mentioned is one of my personal favourites as well. Once these general breakdowns are done I'll be doing more videos covering the in depth combat stuff. I didn't expect this video to end up being 30 minutes but I think it covers the basics well.
@@JayTB123 hello i am also new but i have noticed that ryu has a roundhouse kick after a light slash attack. Not sure how to execute it. I would appreciate it if you know how to execute if you would share how. Thank you for your videos, i love this game for therapy and it's ninja action.
That move isn't listed unfortunately but it will trigger if the first X attack kills a man sized enemy.
You can also do it against an enemy that is dead but is still standing. If you do XXY or XXYY for example and then do X Ryu will just kick them away.
Hope this helps :)
@@JayTB123 thank you for responding so promptly. Was hoping to put that as a staple move. Once again thank you for your hard work and diligence to the ninja gaiden community. You are definitely in the ni ja gaiden god pantheon.
The fact that there is such a cool community for this game series blows my mind! Thanks for being awesome dude!
Thanks for making these. I remember checking for videos like this probably a couple years ago and finding nothing.
This channels helped me as I recently got into Gaiden. Thanks a ton man
Instant Subscription technique! This was a great video I learned so much, this will help me slay the beast known as Master Ninja difficulty. Thanks!
Great video! I've played this game to death, but you taught me a lot of juicy tips on the windmill slash. Gonna have to incorporate that. I look forward to the rest of the series.
As another commented said, I'd like there to be a video on useful/flashy combos that aren't in the combo list.
i feel like i just discovered the best game ever and this is the most informative video about it. thanks alot
Hey!! Ninja Gaiden master collection is out and these videos hopefully will get more attention!! These are so helpful
Loved this video. I am definitely gonna try and do windmill slash more. I never tried to use it and didn't know about the auto transition to run. Definitely big like.
Thank you a lot man, I've just started my MN run and throughout the lower difficulties I was decent with the DS, but this will definitely help with the new run and to nail these combos and timings better!
Keep up the good work, been watching ever since your videos are both awesome to watch and informative!
Happy people are still playing this to be honest haha
Glad you liked it. I love that people are still picking up this game. That's my main motivation to keep making content for it. As great as this game if you're just constantly getting killed over and over it's not that fun lol
Sounds good man. By the way, I've been going through youtube and Ninja Archives to find some footage and whatnot on masochist runs (All I've found is Timmy Guns almost complete run, which is awesome).
As you're on of the top players, have you ever considered doing a masochist run or are they just too tedious? And is it really that hard or even impossible to pass ch11, if you have knowledge on this?
Thanks man
I've done handicap runs in the past but I really don't find them very fun. Things like the fiend challenges with level 1 weapons are just really boring as you are forced to play in the most safe way which means just exploiting loop holes.
I like individual stuff like the archive challenge runs or mission mode but full story mode runs don't do anything for me.
Yeah fair point man. Still, best of luck with all the weapon tutorials!
Pumped to see them when they come out!
Big ng fan. Just found your channel through the subreddit. Great content man.
Thanks, good to know people still find their way here for NG content :)
I'm literally taking notes lol. Thanks for these vids mate 👍
THIS IS SOOO AMAZING THANK YOU!
thanks for this series, just got in to ninja gaiden and am playing it on my series x and this is handy af
Thanks for this video, im making a game with the same combat system of ninja gaiden and this is helping me a lot.
Excellent tutorial !!
Dude hell yeah. Thanks
Can't wait for the nunchaku breakdown!
Thank you so much for this. I'm so glad you're still producing educational content for this game. If anyone has the knowledge and experience to do it, it's you. I can't wait until you get to the heavy weapons, like the Dabilahro, because one of the things I really want to know is how to properly aim the ->Y attacks, because it's so easy to whiff. I've failed to kill so many Berserker knights because of missing the punish with the ->Y.
0:40. I agree. Watching top players simply isn't enough. For example, you won't understand shuriken cancelling simply by watching players do that.
4:29. See, that's an example of what I mean. You shuriken cancel in that XXY stunlock against the dino fiends, but a first-time player who knows nothing about the game will not understand this. They will follow your directions about doing XXY but will wonder why they can't get the stunlock because the game doesn't teach them about shuriken cancelling.
6:00. Okay, that's something I definitely didn't know. I didn't know that knocking an enemy into a wall caused damage, much less high damage.
11:40. Did the ->X attack also have this i-frame property in Ninja Gaiden 2? Just curious.
12:10. If I chain a roll into a smoke bomb into a ->X attack, would it be possible to completely and consistently evade Awakened Alma's pink projectile attacks? Or would the recovery gaps in between the rolls still leave me vulnerable?
Glad this was helpful. At this point in the game I enjoy doing these kinds of videos more than any other. The >X does have i-frames in NG2 but it's much less effective just down to how many enemies there are in a typical encounter. Boss attacks usually have much longer strings in NG2 as well which makes it far less useful than it was in NG04 or NGB.
You might be able to chain rolls using smoke bombs on Almas projectiles on lower modes when there isn't many of them but the speed at which they come at you on higher difficulties will be too much for the i-frames to cover. They will very likely hit you inbetween durnig the brief spots where you're vulnerable.
i just got a xbox1 x to play these again this and NG2. VERY HELPFUL VID
thanks
You missed the delayed XY-XXX/other combos. When you do XY and launch into the air, when you are about to land on the ground, if you press X again, you do a spinning blade, and can then link tons of other combos off that. Its also possible to infinitely do XY-X(as you land)Y-X(as you land)Y...etc etc.
I just happy that they brought NGB on XB1. And also NG2. NG3RE I could take or leave lol.
keep them coming!
Great content. Thx
This helps a lot thanks
hello sir thank you for creating weapon breakdown tutorials. I am grateful for the wonderful insights regarding system mechanics being introduced even though not much help has not been out there for this title. I have a question : does the increase in difficulty also enable the enemy attacks to inflict guard break and guard crush which was not so on earlier difficulties , or is it based on weapons level where increase in it's upgrade would enable to block attacks that would guard break / crush ?
Thanks, I'm glad they are helpful.
That's a great question too. Generally you only get the enemies that have the ability to guard crush on the higher modes like very hard or master ninja. Guard break is very consistent as any attack that will do so will often always do it but on the lower difficulties they sometimes don't. Pill bugs for example will usualy always guard break when they do their pounce attack or any attack from a zombie that isn't their grab.
Guard crush (where you take a little chip) is definitely more likely on higher difficulties in particular master ninja. For example the cat fiends or crab imps, you just have to know which attacks can do this.
Enemies that have high armour or defense will also be harder to hit on these modes without stunning them first.
Hope this helps :)
great vid man. you thought of doing other Weapon Breakdown videos for the other weapons?
Thanks and yes I will be donig one of these type videos for all the weapons. Except maybe the spear gun lol
5:50 Trolling the poor brown Murai slave Ninja after kicking him down the valley!😂
BRO I SWEAR BY UR VIDEOS AND GET THIS MY 5 YEAR OLD IS DETERMINED TO GET GOOD AT THIS GAME! It's 2020 and one of his favorite games! (I have a 19 year old, a total of 4 kids 3 boys and a girl! 3 kids with wife one with current who had no kids but wanted one! I'm done with kids!🤣😂! No surprise that the 16 year old and 14 year old grew up on this game! and love it as well! ) but you are the holy father! PLEASE DO ONE FOR NINJA GAIDEN 2!
Awesome tut vid Joe. I've subbed.
NG is my favourite game. I even bludgeoned my way through it on Master Ninja but looking at your beautiful vid, I think I've missed a trick/move or two, haha, did the same for NGB too. I've got sick of being ripped-off by modern gamings business bullshit & started to lose interest in gaming (sob, sob). Think I might try out NG or NGB, which do you recommend is best on the X360?
Look forward to watching the rest of your vids & you breaking the World record, good luck mate!
Thanks. Always good to know someone is getting into this game. I would recommend the 360 version is the one to play. It has a couple of very minor graphical hitches but the digital version is great. Faster loading than either original Xbox or XB1 and still looks great.
The 360 controller is also great for NG.
mate miss this game so much thanks for the great content! (bit late soz)
This video was amazing Joe I'm super excited for this series. I'm glad you decided to this I'm still excited for you to speed run Very Hard because i haven't seen one yet. Amazing work bro btw are gonna watch Xbox E3?
I watched bits of it, very excited for original Xbox backwards compatibility. Praying that NG04 is on there.
0JoeButton0 Yea same that looked awesome. Anthem is awesome looking too if yiu saw that.
Great videos! Thanks man.
BTW: which part of England is your accent from?
Thanks, glad you like them. I'm from the midlands in England.
Helped thanks
Why is having a wall close good when youre tagged with a fire shuriken? Are there invincibility frames during the wallrunning or something?
What are significant gameplay differences between sigma and black?
I actually have a copy of black, but no functional xbox to play it on.
Como é que eu faço pra fazer aquele giro com a espada carregando e fazendo o giro giratório?
Where do you find the dragon eye for the true dragon sword??
I just started playing again. I have a dumb question. Do UTs and attacks that soak up orbs cost those orbs? Like would I get more money for the shop not doing them?
Yes and yes
can you do the water attacks?
About the dragon sword's XX -> XX, the last kick seems to be executed out randomly during certain moments, like after using the flying swallow, Haze Straight Slash and Windmill Slash, inputting X causes him to do the roundhouse kick sometimes, do you know what causes this?
Yes, in an enemy is dead but still standing like they are after the FS or HSS then Ryu will do a quick spin kick when X is inputted.
You also get the same kick when you do XX with the dragon sword if the first X attack kills the enemy. You'll only get it on man sized enemies though.
Ah, I see. So when is it actually useful to do the kick after insta killing the man sized enemies? I wish to avoid doing it unless neccessary. I can understand that kicking the dead enemy away can prevent accidental autolocking to the killed enemy and but there is also the matter of time limit of enemy encounters and recovery of the move.
In terms of encounter time limits it's one of the worst ways to kill an enemy as they will likely knocked away into open space and you have to wait for them to dissolve and the kick knocks them back quite far.
It can be useful if you know for certain you have an enemy one hit away from death as it removes them from an encounter space for you, cat fiends for example. That way Ryu won't target a dead enemy on the floor because the kick will send them away.
Cat fiends are extremely elusive though 😭 i've seen them dodge ninpo and counter attacks and the izura drop splash damage
Wooden Sword (Unpowered) and The Laser Sword have unique mechanics as well right?
I know this comment is old, but not quite. I can't say anything about the Wooden sword before its last upgeade because i don't really use it for its minimal damage, but the plasma saber mk ll (the laser sword) is basically the same as the True dragon sword; same movelist, same damage. The only differences are the appearance and sound. Think of it as a re-color of the dragon sword. I personally prefer it because it looks cool.
ONCE YOU LET IT RIP!
Hi, I need help doing the Izuna Drop with the Dragon Sword on Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Do you have any tips for getting the timing right? Every time I try to do the Izuna Drop on an enemy I just end up doing the XYXX string instead. I know the correct combination should be XYXXXY but it's not working for me.
Best tip I can give is dial the whole string in, so do not try and do X,Y,X,X,X,Y with any gaps in between. As soon as your first attack connects input the full command and you should get it no problem.
You can also do it from the >Y launcher which is a bit easier as it removes on of the inputs.
Thanks, I'll give it another try. Other Sigma players have uploaded vids of the Izuna Drop, so I doubt it's a software bug or the like.
It says your talking about Ninja gaiden: dragon sword
Ahh yess the popular dragon sword string x - x - x - tentacion
Air Destruction Slash isn't bad against Monk Fiends either; it'll stun them long enough for you to go jump XXXX. However, Lunar and Nunchuks/Flails are probably better for that.
Kinda ironic how the worst move in the game is called "Blade of the UN-defeatable" :P I'm pretty sure someone was in a trolly mood that day. If one day Team Ninja makes NG 4 I would really like to see a perfected version of NG 2's combat system, but with this move added just for shits and giggles.
we need ninja gaiden 4.
do kitetsu
No, we don't need another Ninja Gaiden game created without Itagaki.
You should have in quotation'' I'' Nioh and razors edge proves that they can make a good ninja gaiden game. The glory days are over. If you don't like it don't play it
Can you make a video on how to deal with i.s. ninjas?
Enemy tutorials are something I want to get to but I'm working on a new series at the moment which will take a lot of time.
I.S. ninjas can be very tough to deal if you're not familiar with their patterns. What about them in particular is giving you trouble?
0JoeButton0 the beginning of the game where they drop down where you can grind for money where you first meet muramassa. I just die a lot from the bombs they throw and how they don't stand around.
They will always tend to evade right before you attack them if they aren't stunned prior. The shurikens can be annoying but they have a very long window of recovery and the animation is quite obvious so keep an eye out for it on start up. Guillotine throw is very useful against ninjas as it will take them out of the fight for a while and helps stop you from getting overwhelmed. If you're having trouble rolling through the shuriken explosions try to stay near a wall to use a wall attack instead.
0JoeButton0 thanks I am getting accustomed to it rater than 2. Wish 2 didn't crash.
Do these videos apply to sigma also???
For the most part yes, some strings have different juggle properties in sigma but the basics for all of them will carry over.
0JoeButton0 thanks man I appreciate it
i'm sigma plus peasant, but still thank you much!
yo I gotta be honest, Im literally worse at ninja gaiden 2 than at this
