- So here we are with another ranking video, this time on the Ninja Gaiden series of games. We look at the new and old games featuring Ryu Hayabusa and yes they are all very very hard games.

NG2 on harder difficulties gave you different enemies too, the start with those explosive kunai ninja was brutal haha
Yeah, they started tondo this with NG1. It makes a rerun on a harder difficulty much more enjoyable :-)
Wow. NG2 is the only one I have played, on Xbox 360 (which is considered the best version). It totally wrecked me. I do not see how you can turn your brain off. I got totally stuck on level 4 or so in a sewer and it was so tough. The main thing I remember apart from frustration was the absolutely ridiculous amount of gore. Also the animations were genuinely amazing. Still unbeaten in the sheer "I feel powerful" factor.
Yeah I played the 360 version also and found it a bit harder than sigma. But after beating the the first 3d one I guess I was just ready for anything. I mostly meant the turn off the brain comment in the sense that a lot of the intricate combos needed from NG1 arent needed and all you have to do is a charge attack where ryu loses his mind
I played all of the ninja Gaiden games except for the one that is in gray n black but NG2 on Xbox 360 will always b the best version n NG1
Haha it's true that games hard asf! I got stuck in the turtle boss fight after the plane Crashlands. It's all I remember from the game tbh. I also got bored tho ngl. Ninja Gaiden 1 is definitely the best one
Your take is completely absurd. You dont even have access to the hardest difficulties until you unlock them. Ofc the game is easy and you are "ready for anything" when playing the lower difficulties. NG series are all some of the most difficult 3d games made. @@TotallyTubularJonathan
I'm mad you put the Sigma version on the tier list. That's the trash version. The 360 version is an all time great game where it definitely had pockets of difficulty in the game. You'd spazz on some enemies and they'd still be sitting there like you never hit em. Taking big damage. 360 ninja Gaiden 2 was ahead of its time.

I completely forgot that Dragon Sword existed. I used to own it on DS, and I remember really liking the touch controls for it. But despite me forgetting about it, it stood out as one of the best games to me on the DS because of the touch controls. I can see how it might feel weird on an emulator, but somehow when you play it on an actual DS, it feels so much better, it's crazy. I couldn't put it down until I completely finished it. Thumbs up
I've been a fangirl of Ninja Gaiden during all my life and I agree with most of your comments... everything of Yaiba was horrible, but the music is damn awesome!
but tbh, what I think in the case of Razor's Edge is... yes, there's less weapons but the combat for each one of them is way more expanded than the previous 2 games since there are more combos and fundamentals to actually main one of them (almost like a fighting game adapted into a H&S), that also includes Ayane, Momiji and Kasumi combats which are also more expanded too... less weapon, but more combat!
As for the enemy variation, yes, there is less enemies during the adventure, but keep in mind that it's because the kind of story that involves the game... in this game the story tries to talk more about the human side of Ryu Hayabusa, you can see him feeling all kind of emotions during the story and not being just a slaughterman who slashes everything for no reason... so, with a more human Ryu, comes more human enemies to force Ryu to feel guilty for them (imagine it as Metal Gear Rising when Monsoon and Sam forces to Raiden to feel guilty for all the people he killed, in that part of the game there's more human enemies than machines)... for Ryu, even one of the villain forces him to feel guilty with the curse of all the people he killed during is life as a ninja... that's why the final boss was the closest person to Ryu (Kana), not close like the rest of his clan which are all allies, but in a protective way almost like a father to a daughter, so, forcing him to fight that person was more like a personal fight, than saving the world.
I think Razor's Edge is a great game which takes a different style from the previous 2 games... I mean sure, normal Ninja Gaiden 3 was horrible since it's too easy, it's censored, and there was more unecessary cinematics that adds nothing to the story... Razor's Edge fixes all of that and adds the difficulty that the game needed... tbh, I think it's pretty underrated...
Gameplay wise, NG3:Razor's Edge is best NG game out of all and who won't acknowledge that, never played it past hard difficulty.

I agree with you in saying that Kana’s fight was meant to be heavy in the story. But there’s absolutely no excuse for the actual fight being that awful. I have never in my life turned down the difficulty level in any ninja gaiden, but that fight is so much bullshit in the harder difficulties it’s just unbearable lmao. Otherwise great game 10/10 would play again (apart from the last boss)
NG 2 took part 1 and dial up the gore. The remastered full gore version on Xbox One X should be at a special spot in this ranking. This is because during X360's time, the game's dismemberment system was too demanding on the hardware and there's huge drops in FPS during heavy fight scenes. Tomonobu Itagaki-san knew this but will not bow down to limiting the content, hence the x360 version is what it is today, with frustrating graphics lag during heavy battles. The PS3 version came in after Itagaki-san left, and much of the charm of the game was lost in order to increase the FPS, so no more gore and bodies disappear. The remastered xbox version now unleash the entire game at a smooth 60 fps and huge battles can be fully enjoyed with no graphics lag. It finally came to a full circle realising Itagaki's vision for this game with today's modern hardware.
I actually dig the animated GB backgrounds in Ninja Gaiden Shadow.

Tbh I think a NG with the mindset of NG3RE would actually be pretty good. Ik mfs hate NG3RE but legit the only thing holding it back was the fact that it had to be built off of Ninja Gaiden 3 lol. But NG3RE actually has great mechanics, jus needs a good basis.

I read about these games in Game Informer as a kid, now I’m in my twenties & will but the Master Collection and finally be able to play them!
Such a shame how I absolutely love how ninja Gaiden games are especially on part two and it was great and it was definitely challenging especially this one boss that I can’t remember since it was such a long time around the 360 prime years but I could not beat the boss for nothing I even took a break and came back a couple times and just could not beat it and so I just had no choice but to move on but it was so disappointing so I’m going to take a crack at it again now that I’m older and have more experience so hopefully I can pass it this time around and complete the game😁
You need to treat the Sigma games as separate entities. If you actually played Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 2 you wouldn’t be saying it’s easy. They’re entirely different games.
You might have enjoyed the JPN NG3 on the nes. The US version had its difficulty ‘tweaked’ when it was bought over.
The US version of Ninja Gaiden 3 on nes is the best of the trilogy. You just have to get good

My opinion, Ninja Gaiden Black on original xbox and Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 were the best versions over the sigma games.

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword was my first ninja gaiden game I played and I used to love it growing up but it was definitely the first game to test my patience especially with the final boss battle.
In NG2 in the temple of sacrifice.. those waves of 35+ spider ninja gettibg chewed up with my kisarigama and vigoorian flail was nasty work

NG3 on NES is actually easier in the Japanese version. It not only grants infinite continues, enemies deal halve the amount of damage and come in smaller numbers, but also implements a password system.

I can see why someone would prefer Ninja Gaiden Black / Vanilla Ninja Gaiden as their favorite of the series. It's the most balanced of the series with great combat and story.
NG2 is my favorite. The story doesn't makes sense and it really didn't need to imo. The game is pure insanity. If I had to describe it in one word it would be: RIDICULOUSNESS.
There still hasn't been an action game that's been released that has fully surpassed the combat of the original NG2. DMC5 can be argued as a better game, overall I think it is, but NG2 makes you clench your buttcheecks so much harder.

I'm TOTALLY agree. Best console on playing them is Xbox (the original Black and II are imprinted with Itagaki-sensei soul) but the Sigma versions are VERY good too.
Ninja Gaiden Black is my favourite game ever (Half Life 2 is almost at the same level but ok).

Nice list! All tho honestly despite the Toned down Gore I think Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is the best in the series haha i beat the original 2 and I felt it was a bit... Too bullshit? Especially coming off of Sigma 1 and It's black version idk 2 OG was a bit of a hair puller. Sigma 2 feels perfect on a gameplay level and I REALLY enjoy playing as the Babes in these games, I feel Sigma 2s tag missions even with AI partner is the best side content Mission stuff Out of the 3 games in master collection as well.
Razors Edge is actually my 2nd fav Ninja Gaiden Games tbh, never played the original 3 and don't plan to XD but I feel like the Female characters are the most fleshed out in Razors edge And Fact you can play them on ALL story missions Just adds a ton of replayability for people like me who doesn't exclusively play as Ryu, plus it has that Gore factor that Sigma 2 lacks but unfortunately I feel Like the overuse of Human enemies and rocket launcher enemies brings it down quite a bit, But It has Kasumi so I love it lol..
NGB/Sigma 1 is phenomenal but I feel it is quite dated and that brings it down for me (damn camera angles) plus some stuff in it was to BS like the Spider ninja Explosive shuriken spam in 1 was the WORST, also I feel like 1 had some really crappy bosses I hate those damn Worm Bosses the most when your underground and Rachel While I enjoy playing her on harder difficulties in 1 her segments are nightmarish, In Sigma 2 and Razors edge The Females are actually really fun to use and Play well in all the difficulties but Rachel in 1 I feel like Anything after Warrior Felt like the game just shits all over her slow style to much.
On minute 19 above , Ninja gaiden 2 slash sigma 2 , I guess I heard metal slug theme( kiss in the dark ) started to play 😅
I'd put NG2 and NGB on no. 1 but only because NGB is already a remaster and NG2 is not.. NG2 is meant for more aggressive play. You are encouraged to be on offense constantly, while dodging incoming attacks. The existence of mid-combo i-frames (like in Tonfa and Talons more obviously) gives this idea.

Funny enough Ninja Gaiden Shadow is supposed to be a GB Port of the NES game Shadow of the Ninja, but they decided to resprite it for more name recognition I believe.
NGB is definitely no.1. I remember people losing their mind over Dark Souls, 1,2 and 3 on how hard it is... and I just remembered how much harder Gaiden was on higher difficulties.. faster enemies, faster combat, and you don't have to fight the movement clunk of DS but you need to master the environment usage in NGB.. insane game. All NG games after NGB were kind of dumbed down and made easier for newer gen of players.. just like Monster hunter series did... after MH3 it went downhill. MH4 , MHO, MHW...

Simga 2 would fall near the bottom for me, not even in the same league as OG NG2. Sigma 1 is fine, just not quite as good as Black.
Agrees Sigma 2 is boring compared to 2 (still better than 3 and RE imo but thats not saying much) it should be separated.

I agree with ninja gaiden 2 sigma as good as it is it have us waaaay too much from the very beginning you literally had just about every combo including izuna drop guillotine throw obliteration techniques counter ultimate and 3 ninpo on the first chapter things you didn’t have till at least chapter 5 of the first Nina gaiden

Ninja Gaiden SMS and GG are very different games. The SMS is actually pretty good and comparable to the nes games. You should give it another try.
I swear I must be one of the 10 people who actually enjoyed Yaiba... better than the vanila NG3 imho. And I actually liked the cell shaded artstyle tbh

Razors Edge was the first one I played but sigma 2 is my favourite because the journey felt so satisfying knowing how the NG games work compared to other hack n slash games…… plus I also have a bit of a crush on Elizabeth 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Not sure I agree with how you group these. NG on MS is NOT close to being the same as the GG version. Also the Sigma games don’t play like the Itagaki masterpieces

One of my favorite series, i pretty much like all the core games (not the spin offs) except the 2d version of ng3. This is how i rank the greatest ninja series of all time and i hope it comes back someday 👇.

I've beaten every ninja gay- den except for 2 and 3 for the nes. The new ones for the ps are ranked one of the hardest game in the world on their hardest level. I think it was 3 for the ps3

If only referring to NG3, sure. Razors edge isn't close to being as good as Black or NG2. Razor's edge is so much better than 3, but still just an OK game.
If you want to beat ninja gaiden 3 on nes, try the japanese version, it easier and it has a password system. It's way better.

Ninja garden 3 razor edge is great, you get to play with the girls. It's got great combo.
Alot of people play on normal or easy. If its not a" death march "level you didnt beat the game.
I find it funny when somebody says a Ninja gaiden game is easy or that they blew through it. you know that they played on hero which is easy in Ninja gaiden if you find it easy turn up the difficulty... Ninja gaiden was the original dark souls🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍. I like the first one that was on Xbox back in the day fighting old school enemies was cool I don't like fighting guys with guns and rocket launchers and stuff when I'm a ninja.

Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z is fine. Its basically the same as Lollipop Chainsaw in terms of gameplay and tone haha. If you liked that you'll probably like Yaiba.

Lol, I was playing NGS 1 and I beat the weird boss that eats the Hunter chick in Chapter 6 and after beating it MY LAPTOP CRASHED. I was like, fuck, that's it. Then I had to beat that fucker again... Imagine.

I would rather recommend NG2. NG Black is great but too much backtracking and chaining UTs in NG2 is just incredible. Great feeling. NG Sigma 2 is not that great compared to NG2. Shame that they lost the data for the original NG2. I am playing the Master Collection right now and already finished 1 & 3 (100%) but I am missing the gore part in NG Sigma 2. All of them are difficult. Mission Mode in NG2 or the Ultimate Trials in NG3 are insane. Took me a while on XBOX360. Ninja Gaiden 2 all the way.
o.k. you mention something wrong at 06:43 you said that a fixed camera is bad which is false and also the camera looks amazing and does not show any of the problems you mention, so based on the gameplay shown how should I believe you on 23:12 you perfectly show your point for example, Razor's edge I do not know, I play that game so often, awesome fast combat, the bosses are the best part, have you tried the variety of the Ninja trials? they are fantastic, you have a ton of weapons, Scythe, Claws, Sword, Double Sword, Lunar Staff, Kusarigama, and you have a Wakizashi with Kasumi, Kodachis with Ayane and a Naginata with Momiji, how is that few weapons? it has more than any other game for what I can see, 4 characters, effing Sekiro has a simple sword, I do not know what you say about 2 is everything on Razor's edge and even has steel and bone throws for each character, stealth kill, everything on the previous games including bosses and scenarios are over there, did people really played that game?

I beat The Ancient Ship of Doom on both the NES and the Atari Lynx. So, I disagree, if you want to play the most brass balls hard game that is so rage inducing that they will cause you to break controllers, play Hagane: The Final Conflict (SNES) and Holy Diver (NES/Famicom). Go play those two games and then try to tell me that Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom is the most rage inducing game of all time. LOL.
Hands down the original Ninja Gaiden arcade (Shadow Warriors) is the best game out of the series.
I have been playing the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy these 2 weeks and beat the original in under 20 mins with no save states. Beating that final 3 bosses without dying had my heart racing. Besides all that this would be my ranking of the original 3:
1. Ninja Gaiden 3
2. Ninja Gaiden
3. Ninja gaiden 2
The 3rd just has such great music and the upgraded sword fixed the garbage hit box of the regular sword. The placement of powerups was also perfect as the game was basically telling you the next part will be a little easier if you use this. The second might be better if I get better at mastering the clones, but those remake of original bosses from the 1st into enemies had me raging to beat that one😤.
Well, i heard allot of Devil may cry, but what about Metal gear rising, balls to the wall sword slashing gameplay, it can't be crazier and more satisfing than that, can it?
It’s pretty much the same level in fact I think metal gear rising took a lot of inspiration from ninja gaiden I highly suggest playing black it is actually incredible especially if you liked metal gear rising
When I first played NG2 when it came out I was immediately struck by how much of a mess it was. It still retained the core NG gameplay but everything around that was a disaster.
og2 is the best game of all time but black is the mona lisa of video games so

I only watched Yaiba gameplay on CZcams. Man, it looks ugly visually. The fixed camera doesn't help as well. Comic style cutscene wasn't really well executed. It's hard to enjoy it.
The idea of playing a different ninja is unique and I kinda like it though. Yaiba design is pretty cool.

I know is a personal ranking but you really show that you don´t have any experience with the Sega´s Ninja Gaiden games, first they are two completely different titles, like night and day, the Game Gear one is a straight arcade type action game with almost none story, very basic but looks good and its a fun short game, the other one, the master system title is closer to the NES style of Ninja Gaiden, has story and cutscenes (not as good as the Nintendo 8 bit console ones but it is good for a 8 bit action title) and sorry but in the gameplay and graphics department de Ninja Gaiden Master System game even surpass the NES ones, is faster, prettier and plays like a fucking ninja dream (and even has red blood in cutscenes, Sega Does what Nintendon´t), the music in both Sega games is really good but it is not as good as the BSO of the NES trilogy. I can understand you put the Game Gear Ninja Gaiden game in the bottom, is fun but not great, but the Game Boy one is really good for a portable Ninja Gaiden and of course the Master System one is a master piece, one of the greater action titles for the console, so please, i respect personal opinions and rankings, but if you really only know about the NES trilogy and the reboot ones, you shouldn´t talk about the rest, it is unfair for those titles.

playing them all again right now and im serious got ideas of a good ninja gaiden game. open world would benefit the game alot and the way you move can really make the world better. it doesnt have to be massive but something like boderlands in size would be good. ninja gaiden world is a mix of clashing eras from technology to mystic old world japan. be cool if ninja kaiden added secret bosses where ryu hunted old world monsters for gear and weapons. the last thing they need to do is flesh out ryu history and give him a rival to work with in the story. not a evil rivalry but one that challenges you and make ryu think he may not really be worthy of the dragon blade. the last thing they need to do is armor types and damage types. if i get a war hammer let me do more damged to armored targets where bladed weapons might have trouble. its so like in ninja gaiden 2 the nunchucks doesnt become useless to the vigorian flail.
