- On BudgetEDH we build fun and optimized commander decks with a pre-set budget in mind. In this week's episode, we build a $100 budget Veyran, Voice of Duality deck from the Magic the Gathering set Strixhaven. Veyran is a Legendary Efreet Wizard that has the ability to double up all of your magecraft triggers. In addition, Veyran also has magecraft as well, pumping up when you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell. We built this deck as a spellslinger combo/voltron deck that has a low converted mana cost as well as a multiude of cantrips and combat tricks. This deck has a lot of magecraft and spellslinger synergy, and can combo off and win the game from nowhere. While the budget of this deck is set at $100, we also added 4 non-budget options to the deck with cards to remove if you are looking for an upgraded version of the deck.

Didn’t know if I misheard, Veyran also triggers itself, so when you cast or copy a spell, Veyran will get 2+/2+.

I misheard. I also enjoy the higher costs added in too. I added Thousand Year Storm to mine notably.
Also added in Jeska’s Will and mana geyser stayed. I left in expansion explosion since if I combo off copying jeskas will or mana geyser, I have an x outlet for leftover mana.

How does Thermal Alchemist work with Veyran? Is he able to deal two damage off of Veyran triggering his untap twice?
First tap thermo, then cast instant/sorcery to start stack STACK: (TOP) Spell > veyran trigger OR Thermo Trigger (put veyran first) > thermo trigger to untap(BOTTOM). Resolve thermo, and with veyran still on stack, respond with tapping thermo. resolve this, then veyran trigger to untap, then the spell resolves. You can only get 3 activations, so veyran's trigger doesn't technically activate it twice, but it's still not bad. (I'm not a pro or anything so if anyone else see's something wrong feel free to correct me, but this is my interpretation) I assume it get's much more wonky with copies and a bigger stack but just remember, first in last out.
