Martin is well spoken and soft spoken but he still looks like he wants to strangle Lee. That era of the prem was so amazing.
I remember the very first time I heard his voice, I was totally thrown. He could do voice over work, but looks like Diego Costa's Old English Uncle!

Same. Back when I had a season ticket. I saw Jimmy and Bowyer both score to beat Derby 4-3 after going 3-0 down. It felt like nothing was impossible in those days.
Having watched Keown and Bowyer as players, it still feels surreal seeing them cosily discuss their playing days in a lovely radio studio

Think Known is regarded in football as being a really tough bloke - his teammates always said he was hard as nails and would never give up - good player as well
Bowyer was a complete pain in the ass for anyone to play against.
Loved him for it. Must be exhausting trying to play football and you’ve got that in your face for 90 minutes, especially as he could counter attack with the best of them

Keown was an effective wrestler/brawler/clunker. He couldn't play football for toffee.

The reason Utd dominated in that era was that they had loads, and all of them also possessed skills. Keown had none. He won a few medals for his role, which was to basically kick anything that moved. Thus, medals do not denote skill, talent or ability in the case of someone like Keown. He gained them by doing his job effectively. In comparison Maguire has a modicum of talent on the ball compared to Keown. His problem is that he is too slow. Keown was more mobile, but that only assisted him in being an enforcer, not a baller. 👍
Yeah cause thug was the first thing that Wenger looked for in a player. He wasn’t as good as Terry but he was from that mound, nothing fancy just effective defending and superb game reading.
