When football was fun ...all this cuddling bullshit witht the opposition
cuddling 😂😂🤣🤣
Part of me wishes Ruud was on line 1 and they went to him after Martin's answer 😂😂
This was one of the final few matches of a wonderful, bygone era. No longer do players have as much hatred and competitive spirit as they did back then
Too busy crying about mental health instead of taking accountability, or getting their mommy's to write a harsh letter about bullies
They do, they just get an immediate red card or sent off for showing any signs of anger or aggression
Arsenal v Man Utd was indeed a fierce rivalry. Probably the biggest of the Premier League era. Then *oil money* clubs took over the PL and it was never the same.
Yes, Rodri didn't grab someone by the throat a few days ago.
He tickled him and got sent off straight away, says it all@@TtableWhey
Players back then were on a completely different level to players nowadays. Games were competitive and so entertaining. Those days are long gone.
Nostalgia merchant
@martinodungide4479 he's right tho. I can tell you got no hair on your chin
I would argue the game now is faster, more intense more professional in terms of fitness and more technical (maybe) but the spirit, the desire, the hatred, the characters and the rivalry was far greater back then
AMEN
@@corvus2512the changes to tackling, whats a foul or not protects the attacking players more now than it did then. Some of the stuff that was a yellow back then gets a 5 game ban now. Im not saying it was ok then either but you can do more with greater protection.
The greatest rivalry in Prem history!
rubbish 🤦♂
@@gillie-monger3394what then? Liverpool vs city??😂😂😂😂
The best era of the PL for me. My teenage years, what a beautiful time to be alive to witness that rivalry
If that match was held over the weekend it would have been abandoned by 60 mins, it was brutal
Best days. Team spirit at arsenal was infectious
I remember a great documentary channel five did where Arsenal players felt like they were cheated by Ferguson and the refs and that can explain why stuff like this happened
Everyone knows Ferguson had the refs in his pocket, especially at OT.
It definitely was violent Martin 😂. You hit him on the back of the noggin!
At the time, I knew RVN would miss that pen. However, what a gladiator of a centre forward and an amazing goal scorer..
Got his revenge a year later
I can not believe it's being 20 years. It was just like yesterday. I am really getting older 🧓
been**
When 20yrs just zips by like that, it makes life seem short.
I loved Keown for this. I would have this picture in the tunnel as the players come out to remind them of the dedication needed to wear this shirt.
He's an INVINCIBLE, he only featured briefly but still part of the invincibles that no other premier League team has achieved.
Yeah with record number of draws lol 😂.
@@visalvimal696813 wasn't it ?
Won loads that year 1 Trophy out of 4 🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's not about draws, it's about going unbeaten for a whole season. Stop crying !😊
@@visalvimal6968stats are stats, still invincible
Everything just feels very sanitised now and even though respect and sportsmanship are important, I still miss that level of spite and aggression. That comes from a hunger and a desire to be the best, and I really miss that. It doesn’t really feel like a lot of players see the game as going to war, and view it more as just going to work; they’ve got mates on the opposing team, and whatever the outcome, things will be alright. I’ve seen things where former players have said that they wouldn’t be able to leave the house for a week after losing a game, and that winning was an obsession.
That’s why that was probably the greatest era in premier league history, because you had the old school physical player going up against the more technical player.
Sadly, we’re never going to get this back again, so all we can do is be thankful for everything that that era gave us.
Keown's a legend... This is Sparta!!!
Martin Keown chastised Atletico Madrid for their provocative antics but defends his own behaviour lmao
So he's biased, so fxxkin what??..that's football...
@matthewmulholland1797
Obviously you are wrong. Pundit means expert and has nothing to do with bias. Commentators, pundits and hosts alike are paid to give their opinions, not to be paragons of righteousness & virtue.
@@davedennison7386 biased? More like shameless, but ok
@laughaway7955
So he's shameless, football's full of em....on a side note, I'm an Arsenal fan of nearly 50yrs and I can't stand listening to Keown as a pundit but he's always gonna front it out and why not??
@@davedennison7386 sure
For god’s sake it’s been years now, can’t we at least see the footage and not just the audio!

Sorry but London Zoo owns Keown's image rights.
Arsenal and United were two deadly rivals back then in early 2000 when I started watching premier league. It was this rivalry that drew my attention and love for premier league. Previously I used to focus on French, German n Italian league
Can’t hate Martin for doing it, shows real passion.
It’s fuqin unprofessional and cowardice dude, all Ruud did was back up and lift his hands like ‘what that fuq is this clown doing?’ It was the ref that had a hard on Shiteown. All that being said he should have go to the ref and talk to the ref about it
5:59 first time I’ve ever seen keown seem light hearted
wish we'd see more antics like that these days
The good old days
The Premier League was definitely more heated, back then.
as always, big up my guy Martin
"You'd be lucky to get a freekick nevermind a penalty" 😆 the season before Arsenal scored 2 offside goals at Highbury, they had also scored from a deflected freekick in the FAcup at OldTrafford.
In 98/99 Arsenal scored an offside goal at Highbury vs ManUtd and ManUtd had goal from Keane wrongly & bizarrely disallowed in th FAcup vs Arsenal which is why a semi-final replay was even played and in that replay Keane got sent off and Arsenal got given a 92nd minute pen which needed to be saved but at least it was given because the year before Arsenal had won the PL because Scholes was not awarded a clear pen at 2-2 at Highbury in a game Arsenal ended up winning 3-2 and then they also needed a 0-1 at OldTrafford to nick the title.
It's clear Martin Keown just talks like anti-ManUtd fans do, selective memory at best but mainly just lying his ass off.
Ruud didn't get Vieira sent off! Vieira get himself sent off!
The Missing Link V HorseFace
Totally agree , Rio has turned into the hardest man ever to play the game !!!! I saw Duncan Ferguson run him ragged , Rio passed him on.
Martin you wouldn't have done this to roy keane or Paul Scholes. They would have knocked your head off , Nemanja Vidic as well , he'd of threw you out of the ground
Nah come on Keown did that to everyone he was a menace. He even did in training to Henry, Bergkamp, Pieces and Adams.
Please Shearer was going to spark Keane and he himself said if it ever kicked off Vieira would have mullered him.
What kind of stupid comeback is this? Why would Keown be afraid of Keane and Scholes?
@yao052 because Keane and Scholes have said on multiple occasions if he did that to them, he'd be on the deck.
Of course he would.
Martin seems to be in a jovial mood here, I think the outfit helps too, he looks the part
As a 15 year old United fan at the time I was with RVN and more annoyed about the missed pen tbh. Those heated Arsenal games were amazing to watch its a shame the money men changed the game into what we have now. Still good but I do miss the grit.
Wow I did not know about Jose Antonio Reyes tbh 😨😨
20 fecking years ago I remember watching it like it was yesterday away the Gunners..
WTF, Keown is so full of bs. Viera totally got himself sent off by kicking out at Van Nistlerooy. Keown totally jumped up and physically landed heavily on Van Nistlerooy's back and shoulder. LOL
Keown would be eaten in today's game. Ruud would still be one of the best. But I do miss the passion
This is one of the standout moments of the premier League
If I was Keown I’d be so embarrassed about that episode..
If I was Van Nistelrooy I’d be embarrassed that none of my team mates backed me up
Agreed it was disgraceful behaviour by Keown, Parlour and Cole
Few months ago I watched this and another MU vs ARS game and the quality of football compared to today was dire. ARS were known back then as the best footballing side in the country, but they were launching the ball as well. There are areas today where we've lost something - eg. VAR - but the actual football is much better.
but you have to realise that back then, these were the only two teams (really) capable of winning the title so most games between them were cagey affairs that were riddled with fouls. Not losing was more important than winning.
I'm a Tottenham fan and I'm no fan of Keow-en as a player or as a pundit but I fully understood his reaction that day.
I always thought that van Nistelrooy was a nasty, wind-up merchant.
That's just a stereotypical beta male reaction to a man that you felt threatened by.......classic inferiority complex. Truth is, Ruud Van Nistelrooy was a truly world class footballer and a gentleman off the field.....nothing nasty about him at all, just a natural born winner.
Simon at 5:52 😂
In many ways, football is less enjoyable today - it was still played by MEN back then - but these days, there is too much faking and feigning. The at FUll TIme these players are hugging each other like long lost Brothers - contrast with the incident when Schmecial tried to shake Gary Neville's hand after hed joined Man City - he flatly refused ! Football today is a bit too chummy !!!
20 years later and he still blames the dutchman and not viera for kicking out.....(doesnt matter that it didnt connect).......the behavior at the end of the game was pathetic......." i jumped up in the air"?......no martin, you jumped so you hit someone while all your mates gathered round him pushing him!!!.........even now, he has zero accountability!!
Love Simon
No-one mentions that when the Arsenal players went after Van Nisterooy at the end, Keane was nowhere to be seen......
He was probably too young to watch it live
@avro9707went for Ray parlour 😂
@avro9707 watch it again son,...
bless up martin, you and Si are comical.
Wouldn't have done that to Keane. Pr'ck.
People forget how favoured Utd were ....That Arsenal- Utd rivalry made the Prem what it became
Eweew tough man but to scared to go to the London stadium incase he is called names what a melt
Martin is one hell of a simple guy
Sir Simon = Top LAD Proper Clobber 💯 Facts
When the players were men and not pampered boys.
And we love you Martin ❤🤍
How did Martin became known thanks to ruud v NISTELROOY
I miss proper football
Once again, peak Jordan and White.
Fabulous entertainment.
They ask him this every 3-4 months 🥱
Keown completely changed opinion on him after this video, his tales aren’t great but he loves the sport and fair play
Wow he said it himself. He hated rvn!!
Amazing era. Unlike contemporary manufactured football clubs. Now is all about billionaires buying football clubs and buying history instead of making them
I hated Martin and the Arsenal with a passion. I hate the fact that they went unbeaten for 49 games, but we had Ruud’s revenge to stop 50…we had a double double and a treble and a club World Cup. We(gunners/United fans) were spoiled with that rivalry, proper football, tribalism at its best. Great memories…
martin 'the philosopherl' keown..... the man with ideas permanently above his station
You can't have bitter rivalries in football anymore when "inclusion and tolerance" are being shoved down everyone's throats.
Ruud upon hearing Martin lived in Oxford: “Is that true? I thought you had to be smart to live around here.” 🤣
Van should have decked you then and there and called it a day .
ruud wasnt no fighter

You should get brain maclair, and nigel winterburn on the show to speak about how these two started the arsenal man utd hatred that lasted 20 years, back in late 1980s, in an fa cup tie at highbury
People think arsenal man utd thing was because of them being rivals, no in late 1980s man utd was a rubbish team, a cup team, and they came to arsenal to play a fa cup tie at highbury, which started the arsenal man utd feud that last 2 decades, that in what keown played in there was coming to the end.
It ended with arsenal beating man utd in 2005 fa cup final
^^
Weird how it started with fa cup tie in late 1980s, and then ended with an fa cup final in 2005
I stopped watching arsenal in 2002.
I love the way in 16 years i watched arsenal, we won 4 leagues, and guess who we won two leagues against in games
yes
Man utd
In 1990-1991 and 2001-2002 we won the league in games against man utd, yes the team we had a feud with for 2 decades
What were the odds of that, ie the team we had this feud with, we would win 2 of our leagues in games against the team we had this hatred for.
Weird how that all worked out.
Makes me laugh that it ended this feud when arsenal beat man utd in 2005 fa cup final, as weirdly it started back in late 1980s in an fa cup tie at highbury
You should get nigel winterburn and brain maclair on to speak about that feud, those were the two who started it, that day in late 1980s at highbury.
So weird it started with an fa cup game, and then ended with an fa cup game.
Yeah I remember keown shitting himself at the airport when confronted by Man Utd fans
😂 in your head maybe
Keown is the missing link
🤣🤣
Keown will always be a legend just for that single moment. Any Arsenal fan who watched that whole game live will know exactly what Martin was feeling. COYG!!!
United lost a couple of Champions Leagues because of Referees,Porto 2004,R.Madrid2013,Arsenal whingerd😄👹
He thought Assna was bigger than Man United 😂😂 so not only Assna fans are deluded? 🤣
The horrible days of players showing passion , hard tackles and celebrating instantly when a goal is scored
I love how keown couldn’t even take accountability for that situation 😂 absolute moron

Good argument, good thoughts on the situation, real intelligent 😂
Wise up...

Van Nilestrooy was that kid at school that starts trouble then grasses to the teacher when the other one responds. Good on Martin.
Absolute nonsense, he was a wonderful striker and a fantastic professional, have a word with yourself.
@@garethmccartan3636 no he wasn't
Viera got himself sent off, if that kick out was from a United player to Pires, Reyes (RIP) etc they would have been rolling on the ground. 1:20 United kicked the crap out of Arsenal as a direct response
@@140rware he kicked out at him studs showing, that was an obvious red even then. It’s been about intent for a very long time! As I said if the same happened to one of your lot they would have been rolling on the floor, Ruud literally just moved back 😂
Arsenal was a good team, Utd was just better. Both teams gave everything. Both teams had world class players, good internationals and above all workers. Keown was wrong as was Parlour but guess if they’d played for Utd we would have backed them. Shame that many younger fans and silly pundits are so wrapped up in everything being better now, e.g. players. Arsenal have a very good team now but are nowhere near the Henry, Bergkamp lot. As for Utd there is no comparison. City would have given both teams a good game though!!
Dis is the time they got all the decisions…. They gat the FA the referees…..
Roy Keanes bum hole started flapping at full time 😂
Now look. Man U fans celebrating losing 4-3 to Bayern e
He likes that people are still talking about it.
Who wouldn't like it. Stories like this are what makes it all worth
Duh it was a big moment in the premier league
keown is the perfect example of someone who is tough only in a gang, remember during FA cup match warm up few years back some player hit him in head with ball, he was livid 😂
West ham used to sing to Keown....' Hes got the whole monkey on his head ' 😂😂😂
Well they're not wrong, let's face it.......he'd give Iain Dowie a run for his money.
What a bitter little man Keown is,he was bang out of order
It was violent because Keown jumped into RVN and his arm went into the back of his head lol.
That incident just came off as bullying because it was about 5 players against one. Not that I mind, as a Leeds fan.
Soft from ref to give a pen
Proper old Trafford pen that was
@@x_MVP 100%! ..of course, Martin reacted in the way he did. He knew that RVN had dived for the pen. MK was passionate but did not belong to the dirtiest players at all.
@@x_MVP the fact a year later, WR's pen dive stopped Arsenal's record unbeaten run...MU would not have liked VAR for sure

Keown, the clown supreme and unfit to lace Van Nistelrooys boots, the best one on one finisher United have had in my 50 years.
And Henry lives rent free in Van Nistelrooy big horse head
I remember that match. I thought Martin Keown was nothing but an ugly thicko thug. Couldn't believe it when I heard him speak 🤷♂️. How articulate and intelligent he is. I still think he was a thug, but I now find him very likeable.
Keown was an absolute nobhead.
He made himself look like a school child behaving like he did.
Martin Keown was a thug with a posh accent, no better than a common criminal.
No mention of Keown hitting Van nistelrooy on the back of the head while he wasn’t looking, cowardly scumbag.....

It’s incredible. Everton literally invented dugouts and yet we’re here talking about Martin Keown 20 years ago. Not a single mention about Everton’s upcoming fixture, not a single mention about how disgraceful it is that we aren’t playing in Europe again this season. Unbelievable.
