- Behind The Moment offers an inside look at what went into the preparation and filming for some of the most unforgettable scenes in Selena: The Series. The first episode focuses on the climactic scene that opens the show: a concert where Selena y Los Dinos are playing her hit song "Como la Flor" in front of an audience of thousands. We follow Christian Serratos, who plays Selena Quintanilla, as she begins to learn the iconic choreography months before filming begins, and we see the hard work that the entire team puts in. The spectacular journey peaks with a long day of filming, during which we see the extensive hair and makeup process Christian undergoes before performing with her castmates and taking the stage.

They really went into Selena’s childhood and the hardship the family experienced. We didn’t get to see that in the film so I appreciated how this was added to the series.

I was watching an interview with Suzette Quintanilla and she said there was a girl who really resembled Selena and their dad wanted to choose her but that the girl couldn’t act. So then they went for the girl who now portrays Selena

Y'all really don't get the whole point of the series. They didn't want an actress to look EXACTLY like Selena. They weren't looking for someone to look just like her for this series. If they were they could've just picked JLO . The series is just there journey and what got them on there shoes to work harder. They only wanted actors who can act like the Quintanillas/Perez personalitys very well. True fans don't care about the looks they only care about remembering Selena the way she's supposed to be remembered, Silly,funny,kind and inspirational 🤍
I don't think people's biggest problem with the series is that she doesn't look exactly like her. For that matter neither did JLo if we're being honest. She just had the same body type and the big butt. But this new actress just doesn't capture her the way JLo did. Her personality is completely different. It's as if she's just reading lines in her own voice and personality. JLo also worked to emulate the way Selena spoke with this subtle southern accent at times and this actress didn't even do that.

Honestly, I felt that The Series did a great job telling Selena’s story of the details that was not mentioned in The Selena Movie. I seen myself putting 2 and 2 together between the Movie & the Series. They went in more depth and it was captivating for all of us fans who wanted to get to know Selena more. I could also agree with some fans that Christian tried her best but she did not make the cut. It was painful to watch her lip sync, dance, the horrible wigs, her boney figure etc. Trying really hard to give her a chance but she docking points every episode I watch lol anyway, I’ll stop there lol. As long as Selena’s family likes it, I’ll keep watching & support it. RIL QUEEN!

I think that Christian did such a good job emulating Selena. I really love this series and seeing a more in depth view of how they created many of their songs and the growth of the family as they travel around performing. I’m on my 4th time watching it 😅 I love Selena 💜

Everyone talking about how Christian doesn't look like Selena but this series isn't about looks, it was about telling her story, her life, her career and what happened to it. Same as every movie/series based on a singer who passed away. It's letting this new generation know a little bit more about the singers they listen to in places but know nothing about them.
This show is great. Looking at it as a stand-alone project (not comparing it to the movie) is beautiful. It's creative, cheesy (in a good way) and portrays Selena fantastically. I look forward to part 2!

Well i'll be the 1st to say I enjoyed the series, didn't expect to finish it in 2 days. No, Serratos isn't convincing 100% but I'm happy for her. Someone thought she deserved the role so she earned it & why not be happy for her? I enjoyed learning about the family, I had no idea AB had his own family. It was nice to see how Selena & Chris' relationship developed. Stop comparing this to the movie, I had to keep telling myself the same thing. But they weren't retelling the movie lol that'd be a waste. They're retelling the family's story & success.
I enjoyed the series too! We were seeing everything from scratch, from the things we did not see in the movie. We saw the late 70's Selena to a 80's and the early 90's. In the movie we only saw a lil bit, don't get me wrong tge movie was amazing and its a masterpiece... but the series, as you said, is about the Quintanilla's family. PEOPLE ARE TO HARSH on Chrisitian Serratos and the crew, they did their best.
Years ago, I saw pictures of Selena and I was laughing, because I was perming my hair in those days. I didn't recognize her in the Pepsi commercial. Just when you think, you know EVERYTHING about Selena you see her perform to Jodie Watley (love her songs). Selena even sang Michael Jackson songs😳 I think is amazing to have a Netflix Selena Series! I know it's just acting, but she was so gaunt compared to the real Selena. They could have it least made her gain a little weight ( as actors are often required to do,)and then it would have been ok. I bet Chris has a better idea for the tv series. Family did him wrong.
Not everyone gains weight in the perfect spots like Selena did. She is beautiful in this film, Selena would have approved!
I think it's not even about her being too thin, because Selena was quite slim at times. It's more about the way this actress' posture is quite weak and flimsy. Selena had this strong, almost masculine presence, that said 'I'm here, look at me!' This one is more like 'don't mind me, while I'm dancing'.
Angelina Jolie used a personal trainer for Tomb Raider to gain weight & muscle perfectly... I felt the same with her needing a little more on her bones and face.

She was really way too skinny Selena had a complete different body type and the actress honestly doesn’t even remotely resemble her, even less than jlo did. At least jlo got her mannerisms and her spirit down. The casting was netflix fault tho. Also, I think they should’ve let Chris tell his story instead of just retelling the family story.

I'm addicted tô the series. Can't wait for part II. Selena wasn't known in my country before the movie. Her story always gets me emotional. She represents the latino dream, and her lyrics were soundtrack for many moments i've been through. My favorite songs are definately I could fall in love and Como la flor. I watched an interview with Suzette the other day and she explained that yes they found people who looked really close to Selena but the girls couldn’t act. They said this happened for both the movie and this series. It’s not just about how the actress looks compared to Selena because she can’t be replicated perfectly but it’s about how the actress can portray her. I personally loved this performance and it’s a side to Selena that I haven’t seen often. I also loved J.Los performance, it’s something from my childhood that hold such a high title, I think we should appreciate the series for the story and that Suzette was an executive producer for

Honestly, I think Christian gave a freaking amazing performance considering nobody can be as amazing as Selena herself. Not her fault that the producers & directors had their own vision that people are taking out on Christian for the hair, costumes, dancing etc. that's what they gave her and made her do, and she gave it her all and I applaud her for that.

The series is decent, but she is not nailing the stage performances. That's the reason Jennifer Lopez did so well; she was able to emulate Selena on stage. I was wondering the whole time if she had dance training. I just think they picked the wrong person for the role of Selena.
I agree with you. Selena resonated with so much people beacsue of her stage presence and voice. The actress didn't quite capture the stage performances. JLO did because she is a trained dancer. The series was great to look at their rise and hustle. BUT I hope that they do focus on the love story in part 2 and her rising star. NOTHING ELSE!
Thats what a lot of Christian's "defenders" don't get, its not that we don't appreciate the fact that the family wants to share their story, its the fact that they chose a bland actress, if she had some type of personality it would show thru, and even if she didn't dance perfectly or looked exactly like Selena, if she had a fun personality and stage presence the public would look past all the other things that are missing just like we've done with Jlos performance
Obviously there'll never be another Selena, she was truly one of kind. That being said, Christian did a hell of a job becoming her and the series is actually really good despite all the undeserved hate/criticism it got.

I liked it a lot, but it took us a long time to get past Christian Serratos looking NOTHING like Selena. She captured Selena's voice and smile really well, I'll give her that. The rest of family I think was decently cast. It's slower paced and focuses on the whole family. We get to see things that the movie didn't have time to get into. There were some things I learned about Selena from watching this that I didn't know before. 7/10
Did they use the astrodome audio for this? If so thats going to bother me. I hate to complain but they really shouldve stuck with the time of the music and como la flor at the astrodome is iconic. You cant just use the audio for any performance.

Agreed. The really interesting thing that I find about Selena’s voice, is the evolution that we see. By 1994-1995, she was on her A game, but by 1995, her voice had just blossomed into a woman’s voice. Also, her performances were never the same, she was a consistent performer but never did the same thing twice.
Ive been a Selena fan my whole life I own everything Selena and I loved it I started watching it and couldn’t stop she did a excellent job playing Selena I mean she can’t be Selena right? The cast did amazing it was fun to watch every time a song came on I blasted it up I can’t wait for the next series ❤️❤️

I see all these comments talking about how Christian doesn’t look like Selena. Thats not the point of this show they wanted someone to tell her story and her family’s story. If they really wanted someone who looks like her then they would have. They chose her for a reason. I don’t understand how people are comparing the show to the movie it’s wasn’t suppose to be a remake of the movie. J Lo did and amazing job and so did Christians. This was an amazing show and a lot went into it and that I praise. I can’t wait for the second part.
