- Behind the Moment offers VIP access to the details behind the preparation and shooting of some of the most iconic scenes from Selena: The Series. The second episode shows that it’s one thing to move, and another to dance and master the cumbia! Selena and Los Dinos are preparing for the end of a successful tour, and Christian Serratos, Gabe Chavarria and Julio Macias have been rehearsing for months to be able to move to the beat of the Latin rhythm just as the band did back in the day, while Noemi Gonzalez, Carlos Alfredo Jr, Jesse Posey and Hunter Reese Peña lead the audience in chanting the names of their characters minutes before they start filming, just as if they were in a real concert.

I finished the series and they did a awesome job telling the story. Anyone complaining about how she doesnt look like selena. Even if they got someone that looked more like her people will still find a reason to talk. Real fans are enjoying the series and seeing the story being told and bringing Selena to life.

I really love this series. At first I was like she looks nothing like Selena. But her acting is amazing she really brings Selena spirit and her sense of humor. You forget about her not looking much as Selena ? But she truly brings Selena to life. And also this is more details of the struggles and her love for fashion.

The series was created with the feedback from the family. This is what they approved and it looks awesome. I think some people have built a fantasy of who Selena was. While the group was later just called “Selena,” it was a family affair. It was all about how the family and friends worked together to make this group what it was. It wasn’t just the singer, it was AB who wrote/produced a the hit songs, the over protective father who wanted the best for his family and the rest of the group working their hardest to make sure that they were on top of their game. It you have opinions of why this show was terrible then you should actually write something more than just “bad actors” or “terrible wigs”. For this people, who read some history on her, watch some of her videos and interviews. I loved the show, it gave me a much different perspective on how each member played a pivotal role in the success of the band. I can’t wait for the second season.
No the family created a fantasy version of selena. Made it look like selena was always happy and never got angry. She looked like a perfect disney princess when irl her and chris had fights

People are giving so much hate. I just truly love having more insight into the family and the band through this show. Yes, it is not perfect. After all they are actors, not singers/dancers. No one will ever be like Selena or her band. Just appreciate the time and effort this people put into someone so beautiful. This only makes Selena live longer in our world

we are never going to get Selena back, we are never going to get that sparkle that J-Lo brought with her acting for Selena, but we do get this gem with a beautiful Latinx cast playing amazing characters we all know and love irl (where Latinx actors/actresses are usually gangsters, the help, the joke, etc.). It’s another beautiful cuento of Selena that our kids kids can watch along with the og movie. As long as Selena’s story and her music lives on, that’s all that matters. So no empiezan con sus berriches 🤩

I feel like this scene was her best concert scene in the series. For everybody involved actually cause they all knew the song. Where as the other earlier songs it was new to them and their first time hearing those songs. They weren’t too sure how to perform it or how to present them selves on stage not only because the songs were foreign to them but because of the story telling. They were directed to act like unseasoned performers still learning the ropes cause it was a coming of age story. They had to act like they were learning as Selena got more and more successful within the series.
Selena is a LEGEND but I think her family is tarnishing her legacy.
Here's the thing. We never were gonna like any of this, the casting, the dancing, the acting, any of it. Jennifer lopez killed her role, and a lot of us grew up and fell in love with Selena through that movie. So coming into it, a great part of us was never gonna fully like the series because it was so different from the actual Selena. That doesn't mean we should hate it and treat it like crap. I freaking love the series, and I am a hardcore Selena fan. I love it because even though it's highly inaccurate, it's a celebration of Selena and definitely entertaining. This allows a whole new generation to fall in love with Selena, so I think we should enjoy what we love and ignore what we hate.

@@Quaniac hey, not trying to argue. I mean by that, the portrayal of characters, and things like the love story between Selena and Chris. It's like, say your family tried to make an biography of about your life. There are some things that only you, as the person, are privy to. Like how you felt about situations. Selena (rip) isn't here to tell her truth. That's why I say highly inaccurate. It's a good series, however, and I do think the main story aspect is legit. I hope this helps.
It is not inaccurate. Her sister produced it. The fact that you say you are Selena fan because of the movie means that you are a JLo fan not a Selena fan or else you wouldn't compare the two. They got her looks right and her clothes and everything they they omitted in the movie just perfect in the series. This is giving more insight to her beginnings as an artist as the movie ever did. I think the movie was rushed since it was done only 2 years after she died. This to me feels more accurate than the movie. There is old interviews of her dad, sister and Chris saying that a lot of what was portrayed in the movie about the relationship with Chris was made up. I feel with the series hopefully we get to see what really went down.

Love that SELENA is on Netflix as a series! My family watched Selena pepsi commercial didn't even know it was her. My only wish is they would of stretch it more. I can't get enough of Selena how she became a star...then Selena...The Legend.

2 things that are annoying:
1. When she was lip syncing the music into the mic, she was not singing in Spanish. Practice the Spanish like the dancing ;)
2. Anyone else catching how bad they tried to hide Chris Perez in this series... just sayin', he's a big part of this story. Hope they all take the high road and stick to the truth like Selena would have wanted.

They didn’t hide Chris Perez he just wasn’t a big part of Selena’s life until after they got married. Season two focuses more on her childhood and then age years. I’m sure season 2 will have a lot of Chris

For those talking about the lip sync the only reason the lip syncing looks off is because the actress originally sung live but last minute they decided to use Selena’s voice instead. That’s why it took so long for the series to come out. It was originally supposed to be out in April but they had to go back and edit Selena’s real voice in the series the best way they could without having to reshoot stuff. So it’s not the actresses fault at all.
As a true Selena fan I enjoyed. Yes there were some cons to it , but I find that most people hating on the series are Selena movie fans and can probably only name 3 Selena songs. No shade .

Yesss thank you👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I'm been a Selena fan when I was 16 when I saw the movie and I fell in love with her music and I started listening to most of her albums. My favorite songs are Si una vez, Amor prohibido & El chico Del Capt. 512. Jlo did incredible job doing the movie. The series looks good I'm going to watch it today. Its know difference when Jlo did the movie and she got hate for it but the movie did really well and Jlo & the cast killed it. They made the story incredible and I learned alot about Selena + doing my own research about her and watching Selena's live performances.
Just look at the actor who played Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody... He looked, acted, and even performed like Freddie did! He prepared for the role!! They couldn’t have chosen someone better to play him. This girl as Selena🤦🏻♀️... just no 🤷🏻♀️ sorry!

The choreographer was teaching them to dance with their feet but Selena’s style of dancing comes from the body’s core/hips! They got it all wrong.

Why is everyone so mean this was a tribute to Selena so that we wouldn’t forget her. It’s a good series, it’s mostly about her childhood and how she came to be, not everything about her life is fitted into the series since it already was in the movie. the actors worked hard to fit into their roles. They just want to keep her spirit and music alive.

I love so many of her songs she is a Tejano and Cumbia Queen “ Si Una Vez” is one of my favorites Her vocals in that song are everything you can hear the strong natural power in her voice. I can only imagine what kind of change she could or would have started here in Texas if she were still here.

Baila Esta Cumbia is my favorite Selena song. I think it’s cool Jesse Posey is playing Chris. His brother Tyler Posey played Jennifer Lopez’s son in Maid In Manhattan, who of course played Selena in the 1997 classic biopic.

I get that's mainly the reason most people wanted to watch the series and they came out disappointed because the series isn't about the performances it's the story. I like that they took away the main focus from the concert stuff because you can watch the real performance on youtube! So why recreate something we already seen. They're showing us stuff we haven't seen Selena off stage.. The way I see it. The concert stuff are in the series as a point of reference so you know what happened before that performance or after that performance etc.

People hate the series because they don't understand it's telling the Full story behind Selena.. the Brand. That INCLUDES her Family and their stories, she wouldn't have made it Without them. The Movie is more Selena focus, the series shows Everything that happens in between. The movie is Still there for you. I appreciate how young they make Selena feel in the series, in the movie, she felt Consistently in her 20s! Take it all with a grain of salt, the movie wasn't in order, and the series paints Everyone as an angel.. But overall, Both worth watching, give it a chance! There's a season 2 coming to address your concerns I bet.

People complaining that its about the family, not Selena but I actually like that they showed everyone's background and journey. It was Selena *y los dinos* for a while. It was a family effort that made Selena as big as she was: fathers pushing, motivation and career moves, brothers musical writing, sister and moms support. I'm sure the second part will be more focused on Selena.

All right, so I recently watched the 1st episode of "Selena: The Series" and my honest review so far: I thought it would be a knock-off of the original Nava biopic but I thought it was genuinely fresh and interesting as to the details it went into about the early days of Selena's career and the direction her father Abraham wanted to take the band in. I actually am liking the show so far! The casting for the family is excellent, the kid playing Selena gave a very good performance, and I really like the performance of the man playing her father--every bit as good as Edward James Olmos.
What I thought was *really* interesting was showing the struggles of not only the Quintanilla family financially but how her dad decided on the trajectory of the group. They were trying to build what we essentially call a 'brand' these days and the beginning stages weren't what Mr. Quintanilla felt were working for his daughter's incredible talent--covers of English language pop hits that the crowds weren't emotionally connecting to. Once the family embraced Tejano music, the sky was truly the limit. I liked the exploration of that final decision, in comparison, it was pretty glossed over in the Jennifer Lopez version. So...for any Selena fan who is unsure of the series, I thought so far, so good. I still don't think Christian Serratos looks much like her, but I'm definitely willing to give her performance a chance!
I totally agree with you at first I was reluctant but plain and simple anything about Selena I'm going to watch an support it and honestly I enjoyed the series it gave me more information about Selena that wasn't talked about in the movie. Not to say the movie was bad but it really only talked about her success, not her come-up or the struggles she dealt with besides falling in love. And sure Christian may not look like Selena but neither did J-Lo and honestly no one is gonna look, act, or sound like Selena she was one of a kind.

This series is awesome. I miss Selena and feel that this series delivers her in such an amazing light. Thank you Netflix for doing right by her and her family
