2009-2013 was my anime dark age. I had stopped watching and buying manga and didn't come back to it until 2014. I know these movies by name and some of the stuff in it but never gave it a chance, might watch them later.
I cringe when some fat weaboos and other turbo virgins residing in basement cry about "edgy" stuff when they have no semblance of what it is living outside of room that smells like moutain dew farts and regrets.
my "to-get" list is so long i went to put this up and discovered it was already there. i'd get them rn but the copies are expensive & i'm saving money cause, y'know, recession and all that.
Nice vid. That's a pity to hear the manga (or did I mishear and it was supposed to be a TV series?) didn't work out. I love Range Murata's designs and deliciously unique and natural smooth, organic lines. I don't know anyone else with that "smooth" art style. These backdrops are nice, but the character designs and animation are pretty mid, circa 2000s+ "spiky", and lack consistent detail and realism, like, unfortunately, Production IG's work on GitS:SAC. The cyber-noir dark+glow color palette and holo-mouse thing is really neat, though. That needs to be stolen-dapted into something else.
It was supposed to be an OVA but Gonzo actually wanted it to be a tv series since those tended to make more money than OVAs. It certainly would've been interesting to see.

I own the Japanese limited edition blue rays of the trilogy. Awesome trilogy. You like ghost in the shell, you HAVE to give this trilogy a try at least!
I think Mardock Scramble is the last well _animated,_ and illustrated, serious anime focused on adult characters ever made. Everything after is drawn ... _cheaply,_ I suppose is the word for it. Made In Abyss being the only serious anime with high quality _animation_ and being well illustrated show I've seen since.
why did they not make it series like show bc there barely anything like this and most anime these day are dum down for the masses there not a lot of gore or gutter anime of last year and this year it tears my heart if you find something let me know please
They tried in the early 2000s but they would've had to censor so much to get it on TV. That's why they decided to make it an OVA instead, but mainstream TV anime make more money than OVAs (generally), so they cancelled it. A new studio brought it back in movie form but I don't think it made enough money to justify making anything beyond these three films.
I've watched 1of them on a streaming service, and it was.... Ehhhhhh.... I wanted the whole thing. Also K. I keep wanting to watch and enjoy K but my mind always wanders...

Good edgy anime are the ones that are very grim dark for a reason and not for the sake of entertainment through excessive blood shed and destruction.
I *despise* "ow the edge". I hate the flippant disregard of something because of the perspective of "cringe". The only thing worse than a show trying too hard to be badass and challenging only to be a gratuitous embarrassment is an audience who lumps the good stuff in with it because they can't tell when someone actually has something to say
